Airport Problems after "AirPort Extreme Update 2008-001" (1.0)?

I recently installed the update and have been unable to connect to my wireless network at home ever since. The airport detects my router and asks if I would like to join the network, but after I click yes, it says "there's an error in connecting", and thus no connection is made.
I can, however, get internet connection through ethernet from my router.
I can't be totally sure the update is the cause of the problem, but I haven't downloaded or installed anything else recently, and all other pc's wireless connections work fine with my router. I also haven't tried connecting through other wireless networks, so I'm not sure if the problem is exclusive to my router.
Has anyone else had similar problems after the update?
Also, does anyone know the default settings for the airport? I'm wondering maybe I have altered settings that's causing this problem.
Any help is greatly appreciated

I have the same problem but I have not found a fix.

  • Problems after installing Airport Extreme Update 2008-001

ever since I installed the Airport Extreme update 2008-001 my internet connection has been dropping and it's so frustrating. I normally wait and don't install updates immediately after they are released. I installed this one and now my internet connection keeps dropping.
    Anyone have any suggestions??

Same scenario here, though I'm running 10.4.9. on a Mac Pro. I've tried every known fix, but Safari still stalls every few minutes - taking upwards of a minute to continue loading whatever page I was browsing to.
Other apps, including Mail, Firefox, and Remote Desktop screen sharing aren't affected - I can ping away without issue while Safari is choking, and there is no unusual Safari CPU consumption in Activity Monitor

  • System slows down after installing AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001

my macbook's internet related performance has been significantly slowed down recently. i have windows xp installed on my mac from where i can compare the performance of ie and safari or ie and firefox on mac. the result is ie on windows xp is much faster. the wireless connection is even more reliable and has more signal strenth under windows. these "slow" situations of mac only happens recently, and the only thing that i can think of to mark the change is the installation of AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001. please advise what i can do to bring back the good performance of mac. (i.e.:if i type in www.google.ca in the address bar of safari, the blue bar will just be stuck around "http://" for a long time before the simple page gets loaded while the status bar of safari is showing contacting google.ca)

  • Probem with AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001 and InternetConnect

    Hello,
I have just installed AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001 through SoftwareUpdate. SoftwareUpdate reported a successful installation and invited me to restart.
On restart, the machine does connect correctly to my wireless network, but InternetConnect does not give any information or allow any control, reporting Network Not Avaiable, Signal Strength 0, and Status not available. InternetConnect also does not allow me to turn Airport off.
Everything was fine before the update.
Looking in /var/log/install.log, I see that the process was fine through Install, but in Optimize there are a couple of update_prebinding errors. [relevant bit of log fie attached below].
Does anyone have any comments or fixes?

Sorry, a bit of a case of 'post first think later' - reinstalling the update from the .dmg downloaded from the apple web site fixed the problem - no errors on the Optimizing step second time around.
But I think that SoftwareUpdate should not have reported success first time around, when there were errors reported in install.log

  • AirPort Extreme Update 2008-003 disables airport

After working perfectly since I received my Macbook Pro on Friday, I was notified yesterday there was a Software Update called "AirPort Extreme Update 2008-003". Not thinking twice, I installed it while I was at work, then when I went home and rebooted, I could no longer turn on my airport (just the spinning beach ball). Then in network preferences when trying to turn airport on, it freezes up the system. I then have to force quit and force the machine to power off by holding down the power button. The only way I have been able to get airport to come back on is by creating a new location in network preferences called "Home". If it gets switched back to "Automatic" I can no longer turn Airport on anymore. Also, even though I can turn it on using the new location, I am no longer able to connect to the wifi network at work at all, and it fails to see as many wireless networks in our building as it did before.
I realize now after reading at several blogs online that this update was almost immediately pulled and is no longer available. Is there any way to undo or revert back to a previous state before this update or do I have to wait for a fix. Or, if necessary, should I use the DVD that came with my system to totally do a system restore of my machine?
    Any advice would be appreciated.

  • Airport Extreme Update 2008-004 Fails Install on Mac Pro 2.8Ghz

After running the Software Update and being notified that Airport Extreme Update 2008-004 was available, I ran the install program and received the following error:
"The update "AirPort Extreme Update 2008-004" can't be saved.
The digital signature for this package is incorrect. The package may have been tampered with or corrupted since being signed by "Apple"."
When I ran SW Update on my iMac 2.4Ghz, the same install ran and installed fine. Anyone have any ideas on what's ailing my Mac Pro (the newer machine)?
    Thanks in advance.

It's now available from software update page:

    Try download it manually.

  • 802.11n enabler (AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001/2007-001 update)

    Hi,
I'm thinking of getting time capsule and then getting the 802.11n enabler.
On the UK apple store(http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObjects/ukstore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=17BDE0AD&fnode= home/shopmac/mac_accessories/airportwireless&nplm=D4141) it states i need the AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001, but I can't find it.
On the US store (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?find=en abler) it states i need the AirPort Extreme Update 2007-002 update. I found that one and downloaded it but when trying to install it says "This volume does not meet the requirements for this update".
What do I need to to get this update??
    Do I already have it??
Am I even able to get 802.11n??
    Any help will be welcomed
For clarification these are my specs taken from system profiler.
    Model Name: iMac
    Model Identifier: iMac5,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.16 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB
    Memory: 2 GB

So it looks like I can't get 802.11n on my mac then. Oh well, good excuse for a new mac.
The apple store is quite misleading then it says you need either:
MacBook Pro with Intel Core 2 Duo
MacBook with Intel Core 2 Duo
Mac Pro with AirPort Extreme option
iMac with Intel Core 2 Duo (except the 17-inch, 1.83GHz iMac)
I have the latter iMac with Intel Core 2 Duo (2.16Ghz), will probably get time capsule anyway though.

  • DO NOT install Airport Extreme update 2008-4 if using usb disk with TM

I have Airport Extreme and a WD 1TB disk with two partitions connected to the Extreme. Other partition just for stuff and the other for Time Machine backup.
Today I installed Firmware update 7.3.2 and disaster struck. I noticed that Airport Extreme was reporting a disk problem. I disconnected the drive from Extreme and use the Disk utility to find out what is the matter. The partition used for backup needed repair, but couldn't be repaired. I had to format it.
The worst thing (besides losing all my TM backups): After I got the disk formatted, I checked TM. It wasn't possible to do Time Machine backups any more for a USB disk connected to Airport Extreme.
    Anyone else have the same?
I strongly recomend NOT to install the update if using Airport Extreme + USB disk for Time Machine.
I'm really dissapointed if this is an issue connected to the update 7.3.2.

    Hello
I'm having issues too wtih the drive connected to my airport extreme basestation but not the same kind.
Sometimes (5 time a day) the airport extreme doesn't respond anymore and it doesn't appear in the airport utility. Then every body is disconnected from internet (even if the light stil green...).
I have to reboot the basestation manualy.
I also have two partitions (datas and TM). I'ts very anoying th only solution i found right now is to unplug my drive...
Hope Apple will fix this ASAP ...

  • After Aiport Extreme Update 2007 001 broke LEAP and 802.1x authentication

Apple Updater installed the Airport update 2007 001. This has completely broken my LEAP and 802.1x network access. It never recognizes the "preferred" networks, and if I connect manually by entering in the password it doesn't transmit any packets.
I tried to reverse the upgrade by following these instructions but then it wouldn't recognize my airport hardware: www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20070126190822382
I tried to file a bug report, but that apple bug reporter seems to be down (it says, "An Exception has Occurred (click triangle to view)" but no triangle exists).
    ***?

I finally discovered what was going on. When doing either the 10.4.9 update or the Airport update, my /System/Library/Keychains/X509Anchors file was either corrupted or completely emptied. The file did remain with 0K size.
I started noticing that all SSL connections from the computer were failing (Safari, iChat, whatever) that depended on the Mac OS X components to do the SSL validation. (Firefox continued to work fine, as it has its own SSL stack.) I then ran the Keychain file check in Keychain, which alerted me to the exact file problem.
My wife also has a MacBook with the same version of Mac OS X, so I was able to copy her X509Anchors file to my computer and everything worked perfectly after that. SSL came back, iChat works, Safari works with SSL, and 802.1x works again.
    Hope that helps someone else...

  • Finder(?) problem after installing security update 2008-008

I hope someone can help with this problem:
After I installed Security update 2008-008 the finder(?) has begun to behave irratically.
Whenever the mousepad is clicked, the dock slides off to the left and the click is not registered by whichever application I am in. Mostly menus are affected. I now have to click the application and menu item several times before the click is registered.
Safari is particularly badly affected with the pointer jumping around the screen when trying to copy an url (dock keeps sliding to the left), page back/forward doesn't work - url links within web pages are not recognised. Furthermore, when using yahoo mail, menus like 'send' and 'save' are not recognised.
Any suggestions how to resolve this problem would be greatly appreciated!
    Andrew

    HI Andrew,
This is most likely caused by some 3rd part APP or kext that is now out of date.
Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then test your problem there.
Now reboot in regular mode, if the problem didn't happen in Safe Mode, but does in Regular mode, See if there is anything relevant in...
    /private/var/run/StartupItems
    /Library/StartupItems
    /System/Library/StartupItems
Also look in in Your Accounts Pref Pane Login Items window.

  • Cant restart MBP1.83 after installing AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001, Help

Today I have installed that update on my macbook pro 1.83 mghz as the only update available, accordingly to apple software update utility. After a succesfull download and preinstallation, when I have restarted a lot of unix command lines appeared on a black screen. Then restarted again and the same thing happened (command lines stopping at a empty line). After a hard restart, the system tries to start but it stays on fisrt screen (apple logo with round timer keeping rotating).
Help please!!! and be carefull anyone who tries to install this patch. Thanks!
PS: I have tried disk check and permissions test and everything is ok, the problem continues
    Macbook Pro 1.83mghz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2Gb Ram

You cant have a macbook pro 1.83 you must just have a normal macbook 1.83ghz processor. The lowest model of macbook pro has a 2.16ghz processor. I currently have a 2.0Ghz macbook core duo machine and after installing the airport update the machine restarted then came up with a dialog box instead of booting the os saying that i should do a hard restart in order for everything to work properly so once i did a hard restart by holding down the power button till the machine went off everything has worked fine so far.

  • Airport extreme update 2008-004 location problem

    Background:
Two locations, one wired, one wireless. 10.5.5. When switching from the wired to the wireless location, the airport radio activates, binds to a SSID in its list, gets a new IP address and everything is wonderful. This takes roughly 5 secs. to complete. The user can then disconnect their ethernet cable and take their laptop somewhere else in the building without losing their mounted servers, FileMaker session, etc. When they get back to their desk, they can plug their ethernet cable back in and switch back to the wired network - again, without losing their connected sessions.
After installing AEU 2008-004, the airport radio doesn't automatically fire up when one switches to a location that contains an airport interface. I can confirm this behaviour only on our laptops that have had the patch applied. The ones that haven't still operate as above.
Anybody else seeing this and/or have a workaround.

  • Airport extreme update 2007-001 question

I have a new MBP core 2 duo, I should receive my new EXTREME tomorrow, I'm a total newb to wireless and to Mac......after using the disc that comes with the EXTREME to "unlock" the n standard for my MBP, do I then perform the 2007-001 update? I am a bit worried by all the posts I see of the EXTREME causing problems with new MBPs so I wanted to insure the order of operation.

...after using the disc that comes with the EXTREME to "unlock" the n standard for my MBP, do I then perform the 2007-001 update?
No, you need to install that update before you install the 'n' enabler.

  • Problems after installing Security Update 2008-02

I have a PPC G4 (1.65GHz/512 MB RAM), patched to 10.4.11. Before running the 2008-02 patch yesterday, I cloned my system to an external drive, ran Onyx (run all maintenance scripts/delete caches/repair permissions). I also uninstalled Miro 1.1 (intending to do a clean install of 1.2) and uninstalled Flash (intending a reinstall). I turned off ClamXAV/Clam Sentry. Updated using Software Update. Process seemed to go smoothly. After it completed, I shut the system down, waited a few minutes, then powered back up. System seemed fine.
Doubleclicking on the flash install dmg gave me the following error:
The following disk images failed to mount
    Reason: No child processes.
I got the same message trying to install Miro.
Thinking the images were corrupted. I re-downloaded them on a PC, tranferring them via flash drive. Same error. Thinking perhaps the flash drive was corrupted, I tried again with a different flash drive. Same error.
I downloaded the standalone file, thinking to rerun it. Same error.
Logged in via safe mode. Same error.
Reran onyx. Shut down. Same error.
Trying logging in under a different admin profile. It did not recognize the password. I logged back in under my normal admin profile; reset the password on the backup admin profile. Still unable to log in. Back again and created a new backup admin profile. Tried running the Miro dmg under that; same error.
Can the security update be uninstalled? That or any other suggestions greatly appreciated.
    TIA,

Sorry for the delay in replying -- I had put the install disks in a safe place -- so safe that it took me a while to find them <g>.
Booted off the install disks and ran repair permissions (there were a few, most involving changes from read-only to execute). Verified the disk. Rebooted.
    Problem not solved.
Shut down. Did a few chores <g>.
On restart, I got a message that the system had encountered a problem & I needed to shut down. Powered down. Waited a couple of minutes before powering up (successfully). Thinking that, given the permissions repair, I should rerun the the update manually, I tried rerunning the patch. Same error message.
Shut down & waited a couple of minutes before rebooting into safe mode in backup admin profile. tried rerunning the security patch manually. Same error message.
Further suggestions would be most gratefully accepted...

  • Intermittent conntectivity after installing AirPort Extreme Update 2007-1

Software Update updated Airport Extreme Update 2007-1 and Security Update 2007-1 on 1/28/07. Since then I have had intermittent connectivity with my AirPort card. Other Macs in my house that have not run this update are working just fine.
I have deleted all entries in the Network control panel and re-entered (I'm using WPA-Personal) and still I get a few minutes of connectivity (very good signal strength, too) and I get dropped completely. The Airport card shows a 169.x.x.x IP address which means I'm out of luck.
If I delete and re-enter the information in the Network control panel for my AirPort card and restart, I'm fine for a few minutes.
This was not happening prior to the AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001
Is there a way to uninstall these updates so I can troubleshoot? Or does anyone have any other advice?
    Thanks,
    JJJ

I'm having exactly the same problem, I tried the fix of switching my WPA to WPA2-Personal and still about ever 15 minutes or so I have no more connection to the network or internet even though my status meter still shows me as connected to my access point. This is becomming quite frustrating because the only fix I've found so far is to reboot the machine, then I get maybe another 15 minutes or so until I loose connectivity and have to reboot again.
If anyone has any other suggestions, or knows if Apple is aware of this problem and HOPEFULLY working to correct it please let me, and the rest of us know.
    Thanks!
