Airport refuses to connect to dlink router

When I try to connect to dlink (WBR-1310) network, Airport gives me a message "There was an error joining the AirPort network dlink" after I enter my password. I created my password with the help of a dlink technician and they have no clue why it would not work. If I do not password protect my network, it works, but I do not want to go unprotected. Any suggestion? Thanks much.

danycom, Welcome to the discussion area!
When you say "Airport refuses to connect to dlink router", do you mean that you are trying to get an AirPort Express (AX) to connect wirelessly to the router? Or do you mean that you are trying to get your Mac to connect wirelessly to the router?

  • Airport refuses to connect to wireless router... most of the time

I'm having a really odd problem with my MacBook Pro trying to connect to the internet via my wireless ZyXEL router. I've had the router for a while and use it to connect a Mac Pro and PC by LAN and a Wii and iPhone wirelessly and It's never given me a headache before.
Airport picks up the local WIFI networks, including mine, no problem. But when it tries to connect, after asking for the WEP Password, it just times out. I have tried creating the network connection manually within the "Network" area under "System Preferences" selecting various security methods (WEP Password, WEP 40/128-bit ASCII and None) but nothing works. And everytime I manually select the ZyXEL network it asks for the WEP password anyway. No matter how many times I put it in, it wont connect.
I also logged into the system preferences of the ZyXEL wireless router and input the MacBook Pro's MAC address and selected "allow access" but it still wont connect. Except just one time, when I simply turned Airport Off and On again it connected fine and didn't ask for the WEP Password?!? But then after I rebooted machine It won't connect again and turning Airport Off and On doesn't work anymore either.
Can anyone shed some light on the problem?
    Thanks very much

You may have noticed that your issue is fairly common and no one single solution works. So all I can offer is a few things that I know have worked for me, my friends and colleagues, and my customers.
    1) make sure your computer can connect wirelessly elsewhere. There's little worse than struggling with an issue at home only to discover it wasn't fixable.
    2) make sure your base station's firmware is up to date
    3) try turning off the security on your base temporarily and see if you can connect that way. If so, try a different security method.
    4) try changing broadcast channels. You may have a neighbor on the same channel which blocks reception - I know, why this computer and not others? Voodoo
    5) open your Network preference tab and select Airport. Delete any preferred networks you find and make sure that ask to join new networks is checked
    6) create a new account and see if it has any better luck connecting. Last spring I struggled with a computer for several days and one of my IT students suggested this pointing out that I suggest it for many other troubleshooting issues. Darn smart aleck student! Obviously at some point the admin's network prefs got munged and everything I tried after that was for naught.
    Good luck

  • Can I use airport express without connecting to a router?

I hate trailing a long wire across my room just to listen to music through my (old but still fantastic) stereo system. I share a house with friends and our router is in the living room.. does the airport express need the router to work? sorry if this is a dumb question, there just doesn't seem to be an answer anywhere!

You do not need the AirPort Express to connect to a router in order to stream iTunes. In its default mode, the AX provides a standalone wireless network. You would just need to connect to this network to stream. The drawback, of course, is if your are getting your Internet access via another wireless network, you would have to switch networks to perform either.

  • Airport Refuses all connects..

I had one of the old airports - the dome - and I have a second airport - the one that looks like a macbook powersupply - to extend the dome's range.
The dome finally died. So I retired it and brought the new(er) airport into the house to replace the dome. I have gone through the set-up multiple times, using all the security methods, but I can't get any device to successfully join after entering in my password.
On WEP mode, it tells me that I entered the wrong password....on WPA/WPA2, it just tells me that the device is unable to join.
I've tried entering the password as both "password" and password.
I've hard reset, and factory-reset the airport, only to reach the same end.
I am trying to connect from my iphone and ipad -- both devices were successfully connecting previously to the old airport and can connect to the lan @ work, so I know it's not the devices themselves.
Out of ideas - can anyone suggest something?
    Thanks...

I had set-up the airport dhcp address pool that there was overlap with the router address pool which was causing the airport connects to fail...
Just in case someone else has this issue.

  • After software Update (2006-07), airport can not connect to the router

    Hi,
I installed the software update 2006-07. Afterwards the airport extreme can not connect to the router anymore (NETGEAR). I use a WEP key, but even if I type the WEP Key, the airport does not succeed to the router anymore... I called Apple Care and they wanted that I install the firmware restoration. But even I didn't succeed to install the firmware restoration. On the firmware restoration web page (http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/firmwarerestorationcd12.html) is written that I have to turn on the computer and continue holding down the power button until the LED blinks rapidly followed immediately by a successive series of blinks (3 quick blinks, 3 slow blinks, 3 quick blinks). But after the LED blinks, there is not the successive series of blinks...
I know there is 2 questions in one message, but could you please help?
    Thanks in advance.
    Best regards,
    Eric

  • Can't connect to DLink router anymore

I'm connected to the internet with a DSL modem and a DLink router, model DI-524.I had a wonky security system(Net Barrier) on my computer. While online, a Net Barrier window popped up that said I was being subjected to a Ping attack, with 2 options, Ignore or Stop Stream. I clicked Stop Stream and immediately lost my connection. Apparently my computer now thinks my router's IP address was the source of the attacks and will no longer allow me to connect with it. I called DLink and we reset the router and tried typing in the IP address in a browser, but the computer still wouldn't connect to it(I've also restarted the computer and reset the modem). I can connect to the Internet with the DSL modem directly just fine. How can I reset my computer to allow the router connection? Thanks--Terry

    Hi
Try uninstalling Net Barrier as it seems to have caused the problem. One of its nanny files may be causing the block.

  • "no valid IP address" error airport express as bridge with Dlink router

    Hi there
I've read through many many posts and am unable to find the answer to my issue. I am trying to use my DLink DR 615 router as my main wireless router and then connect my airport express (brand new - n connection) wirelessly as a bridge. I would then connect my WD Live box to the ethernet port and connect the stereo connection to my receiver for itunes. at least, that's the theory.
Right now, I can't even connect. when I go through the manual process, I selected "connect through wireless network" and left the "configure IPv4" as "using DHCP".
problem is that it comes up as my wireless device does not have a valid IP address. Can someone help me step through how to make this work?
    thanks so much!

Suggest that you start over by holding in the reset button until the amber light blinks quickly. Hold another second or two and release.
Temporarily, connect an ethernet cable from your computer to the AirPort Express (AX) to help with the configuration. You can disconnect the cable when you have the AX configured.
Open AirPort Utility, click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons
Set Wireless Mode to "Join a wireless network"
(If you don't see this choice, hold down the option key on your computer as you click the selection box)
Wireless Network Name...the name of the wireless network created by your DLink should appear as a choice. Click to select.
Put a check mark in the box to Allow Ethernet Clients
Wireless Security...must exactly match the security settings of your DLink network
Wireless Password...must exactly match the settings of your DLinkk network
Click Update and AX will restart in 15-20 seconds.
You can move the AX to the desired location and hook up the ethernet cable. If your DLink is compatible with the ProxySTA function, you will connect.

  • Airport will not connect to Linksys router after iDisk sync force quit

    Hi,
Hoping someone can help me here, kinda at my wits end.
A week ago I was video ichatting and restarted my MacBook because the video feed was sluggish. I thought a restart would help.
Unknown to me was that my iDisk was syncing. I recieved an warning dialogue box and was given the option of canceling the restart or force quitting the iDisk sync. I choose to force quit and proceed with the restart. After choosing to continue with the force quit I received an error message, it had the phrase "Mirror Agent" in it, and then my MacPro restarted.
Since that first restart, I have not been able to connect, using Airport, to my Linksys Wireless router (model # WRT54 GX4).
This is where it gets strange. Airport sees the router, displays a signal strength, shows up on my list of perfered networks...it displays all of the signs of a fully connected router but when I try to access the web, check mail or use iChat I cannot because Safari, Mail and iChat tell me that I am not connected to the internet.
When I ran the network dianogistic tool, it first asked me why I would want to run it because it thought I was already connected. After running the tool it still came back with the same results, I was connect to the internet. But I still couldn't launch Safari, it just hung.
This is where it gets really wierd. My wife, she's on a HP, can connect, using her built-in wireless card. Even after changing the Firmware on the Linksys router, her pc can still connect.
And here's the icing on the cake. There are some unprotected wireless networks on my street. I can connected to those but not my own! Something has to be blocking the signal between my AirPort card and the Linksys router. Does that make sense?
And if there is one saving grace to all of this, I still can connect to the web using the built-in Ethernet.
    Here's what I have tried:
Removed Perfered Network, restarted MAC, added network back, still no connectivity.
Removed security (was using WPA/WPA2) from the router still no connectivity.
Removed Airport Keychain, restarted MAC, added router back, still no connectivity.
Repaired the permissions on my HD, someone at work told me to try that, still no connectivity.
Updated firmware to Linksys router to version 1.00.20, no connectivity.
Rebooted Linksys router and cable modem, still no connectivity.
Thank you to all in advance for reading my rambling note and forgiving my poor spelling (it is way past my bedtime and the keys are really blurry). I am still very new to Mac's and appreiciate any help that you can provide.
    Cheers,
    Alan

  • Airport unable to connect to ActionTec Router

    Hello all,
It seems everyone is having similar issues with their Mac's being unable to connect or having issues connecting to their routers. My neighbor is one of them. I'm a PC guy, so I know little about macs.. But I've learned within 1 day that His issue is common with everyone on this page.
He was using a 2WIRE### Router purchased through AT&T/SBC for his DSL Connection. It had died on him 3 days ago. yesterday we attempted to replace it with a new Actiontec DSL Wireless Gateway (router). On first start up, we gave the network a SSID name and no security. His Wife's PC notebook connected fine, and I being next door, was able to connect fine. However his Macbook could not.
After hours of troublshooting, I learned that Changing the channel can fix the issue. I did this, and after a restart on both ends, I had it finally begun working. Today, he was unable to get on the internet without using Ethernet cable, again.
I am unsure of how to resolve this issue. I'm not even trying WEP or any security right now since I cannot seem to connect to it at all.
Any advice anyone can give me would be great. But so far all i've seen as possible solutions have been: change the SSID name, Remove Password making it open, and Change the channel.
Anyone beleive that Updateing firmware would help? I heard that downloading Macbook updates seem to remove their connections as well.

    I have updated information:
I've spoken to both my ISP and Apple directly. They've replaced my Airport Card and my airport extreme base station. I am still not able to log on via the internet.
I have heard from a local store that there has been problems before with Macs, wireless internet, and ISP's that use PPOE to dial up. If I were to switch internet companies I would be able to log on no problem (so he says).
Of course my issue now is, Apple can't fix it, and my ISP won't help as all they will do is see if I can log onto the internet via regular DSL Line, which of course I can.
I'll let you know if there is a trick or any sort of additional information I can offer.

  • Airport Express not connecting to Broadband router

    Dear Apple lovers,
I have been stuck with an issue for the past few weeks, and i hope that your experience can help me sort out the connectivity issues.
    Infrastructure:
Telco-provided Broadband modem router provides the internet connectivity. it connects to the house rooms thru data points.
I have an Extreme setup as a extender to the broadband router (becuase the rooms are far way from the broadband router, i have to do extend the wireless..)
The Extreme has been working fine for the past 2 years, even after the broadband modem router has been upgraded.
However, the Express started giving problems as soon as the broadband modem router was replaced.
I have tried resetting the Express many times, i've tried creating a new Network (they ask for PPOE settings which creates endless loops), creating it as an extender to the Broadband and even to the Extreme. So i've tried all options, and i'm not sure where to start looking for answers (searched this forum many times..)
Issue is that the Express is the furthest away from the Broadband, and if the room doors are closed, the Express has to rely on the Ethernet connection to the broadband for connectivity. Which makes me think that the right installation option to choose is " set up as an extender to Broadband modem" Is this correct?
With the doors closed, the express cant reach the extreme too (extreme is in another room).
I have an iMac, iPhone and iPod that has been suffering from no WiFi for the past month.. we're like in rehab for Internet addiction.. Hope there's a kind soul out there who can point out the right direction to follow (chose which option), or to diagnose the problem, and eventually solve it.
There's also intermittent issues with setting up the express, it just cant be configured. But it still blinks orange and green(sometimes). So i dont think the express needs to be changed..
Thanks in advance for the help  ( if any.. )
    Have a nice day!

I didn't understand how you had the setup and configuration.
You have a modem router combination device that is creating a wireless network, an AirPort Extreme that is extending the wireless network, and an AirPort Express that is also extending the network?

  • How to set up Guest Network, while Airport Extreme is connected to another router.

I have tried doing this by changing the Internet Settings in the Manual section of the AirPort Utility. When I set Connection Sharing to 'Share a public IP address', it tells me that the beginning and ending DHCP Addresses are conflicting with the Airport Extreme.
What would be a better way?

Thank you very much for your quick and clear response.
What would be the consequences if I disable the NAT & DHCP on the upstream router?
Btw, the reason that I use the AEBSn is that I have problems connecting ipad/ipod/iphone to the router provided by the telephone company (I'm living in Spain - and because of that we have a lot of visitors coming over). Besides that, I'm working with a MacBook Pro and to be able to be as mobile as possible, I have a hard disk for Time Machine connected to the AEBSn.
At the moment, the AEBSn is connecting the following to the Internet:
    - Ipod touch
    - Ipad
    - Iphone
    - 2 x MacBook Pro
    - AirBook
    - Old G4

  • Airport refuses to connect unless I restart

After installing Leopard, my Airport has been having issues with the wireless network at my workplace. Whereas with Tiger, it would connect to the network and everything would work fine, with Leopard, Airport connects, but has a "self-assigned IP address". Nothing short of restarting will get the computer to connect to the internet; after restart, Airport connects, gets an IP address and everything works fine. This issue was NOT fixed in 10.5.1.
