Airport routinely locks up and requires restart

I have to frequently restart my ae. It would work great, then suddenly hang and I loose access to the internet. I then force a restart of the base station and it works great for some period of time until once again it requires restarting.
My old airport never had this problem.
The problem affects both wired and wireless access.
Very perplexing and frustrating.

What you are seeing is a kernel panic.
Check out the X Lab's article on Resolving Kernel Panics. Maybe something there will help.

Lock up and attempted restart on recent recordings

Recordings made since about 10 days ago are giving me problems. They will lose sound about 1 second before freezing. After about 1 minute the vbox than tries to restart itself, but the restart screen just flickers every 10 seconds like it's recycling. It never gets any where with the restart, I have to pull the power. Restarts ok when power is restored.
The freeze points are repeatable. I can try playing a recording again and it will freeze at the same frame. I can fast forward and backward past the freeze point as long as I do so before it locks up. There are also multiple freeze points in recordings. The freeze points in the recordings are not at set times or lengths, just appear random.
Watching live is ok. Signal strength looks the same as it ever did. Older recordings play back without any problem. I've got two other PVRs and have made simultaneous recordings on all three as a test; the vbox has problems, the other two don't even show a flicker.
Anyone got any ideas. I think the vbox is going faulty. Can't recall exactly how long I've had the vbox but it's over 18 months or so and it's worked nigh on perfectly all the time.

WLC for GUEST network hangs and requires restart

I have a remote site customer that is getting support calls saying that guest users cannot login to the wireless "guest" network. When they try to access it, the browser hangs up when trying to load the redirect page.
When they restart the controller, it begins working again. The WLC version is 5.0.148.0. Has anyone seen this issue? If not, what would be the best way to troubleshoot?

5.0.148.0 has a lot of bugs, suggest you to keep on using 4.2.112 at this moment until the maintenance release of version 5 comes out. This is one of its bug: CSCsm98250.
Symptom:
Webauth and controller access via HTTP or telnet/SSH stop working.
Conditions:
After the controller was upgrade to 5.0, ramdomly webauth, and controller access via HTTP or telnet/SSH stop working.
Workaround:
Reboot controller.

OS X 10.4.11 quits unexpectedly and requires restart

Hi,
I'm at an absolute loss as to what to do so please help.
I have an iBook G4, which is now getting quite old i know, running OS x 10.4.11 and from yesterday it keeps going black screen, saying it needs to restart, sometimes restarting up fine others not so - needing to be started again. Then it reports and error to apple, appears to be fine, then after a different lengths of time it does it again. I thought i just got hot or smth, so switched it off over night and left it and it's doing it again now. I;m either in firefox or word when it does this.
Please help i need this laptop to last me til the end of uni! (6months!)

What did the error state?
Try running +repair disk+ from your *software install DVD* and afterwards, run +repair permissions+ *from your HD.*

Activating email spellchecker often freezes screen and requires restart

I complete the email and it contains spelling errors.
Hitting the spell check button starts the little circular ball (thing) and the screen freezes.
I have to finally exit the Thunderbird email programme entirely and restart. If I am lucky, the draft file might have captured some of the email, however I then have to manually correct spelling errors or I get a repeat of the above.

Screen sharing hangs and requires restart of target macintosh

Discovered a recurring problem with screen sharing in Mountain Lion. Note I have Apple Remote Desktop installed on many of my machines, as well as the build in VNC Screen Sharing application. I am able to remotely control a target Mac using ARD, however, issues come up when using Screen Sharing. The first connection from client Mac to target Mac (both on 10.8) works fine. However, if I quit the screen share and then try again 15 mins later, screen sharing seems to hang. The connection attempts to be made, but no dialog box comes up. At this point, ARD will not connect to the target mac either. If I use ARD to restart the target mac, a hidden dialog box flashes on my screen (not long enough for me to fully see, but looks like the user/password screen or a varient thereof), followed by a "connection failed" dialgoue on the client. It seems that on the second connection, the client is flashing a dialog and waiting for a response, but the user does not see the dialogue and cannot respond.
Not sure what processes to look for on the client. I have scanned the console and do not see anthing on the client side. On the target side, it appears the connection is being made, even though the client does not realize it. This is from the console of the target machine. By the way, I have replicated this behavior on iMacs and Mac Minis.

I repaired permissions on target mac and removed a corrupted file from preferences (com.apple.VNCpref.txt). Now working.

System keeps locking up and/or restarting

I'm running Yosemite 10.10.3, and recently installed a new graphics card, Nvidia GTX 980, and attached two Dell 27" 4K monitors. Everything seems to run fine, but when I leave my computer alone for several hours, I will often find it locked up. No image comes on screen, not even the CAPSLOCK light comes on. So I have to force shut down. Other times, the CAPSLOCK light WILL come on, but no images on screen. It's driving me nuts. I've got a Panic Report after the last incident (when I came home tonight), so I can paste it here if that helps.

Airport extreme locks up then needs tobe restarted.

My Airport extreme locks up and then has to be powered down and restarted before it will work again.

Just a few more details might help forum members identify or understand your issue better....
Are your computers / devcies all connected using Ethernet?
All connected using wireless?
Or, are some connecting using Ethernet and others wireless?
Does the AirPort Extreme work OK for awhile, then lock up, or does it lock up immediately when you power back up?
Was the Extreme working OK in the past and now is having problems, or is this a new device that you are trying to configure?
What type of modem are you using to connect to the AirPort Extreme?

I have experienced recent system lock-ups and I am require to shut down with the power switch could this be a OS problem or software related using LION with latest updates

Whats up with the system lockups just frustrated as to why. I could be checking mail, surfing the web or using PS Elements 9. Makes no difference what I am doing it occationaly locks up and requires a cold boot (windows talk).

I don't think so, Lion with the latest updates is running fine for most of us.
Post the log for your next lockup or the previous one if you can isolate the timeframe.

Imac locks up and flashing screen

Hi All,
I keep getting a lock up and a flashing screen on my imac running lastest mountain lion. Here is a link to a video i took of the flashing screen. The machine locks up and requires a hard reboot. I tried removing flash and reinstalling prior to this event, but it continues. Only locks up after at least 20 minutes use.

I also reset PRAM and SMC, but it didn't fix it. More so now it just seems to lock up while using Safari. It freezes for a few minutes and then the computer reboots itself.

Airport Drops and requires Mac Restart

I'm new to the board and apologize if this has been covered elsewhere, but 25 or so minutes of searching didn't get me where I hoped to be. I just bought a new airport express base station for the sole purpose of listening to my itunes catalog on the living room stereo. I have an imac and a windows tower and thus no need for wireless internet access. I hooked the airport express up in the living room and instantly its generic network name was available in Internet Connect. I configured it with a new name etc. and right away my music was on the stereo.
The problem is that after a few hours, the network goes down (completely unavailable in the airport selection dropdown box), and won't come online again until I restart the mac. Unplugging the airport express for a few minutes does nothing to solve the problem. The airport has the latest firmware update and the mac has the latest 10.4. Any ideas what I can do to keep this thing up for longer than a few hours. Thanks so much.

I have the exact same problem.

MacBook Pro
OS X 10.4.11
Router: Billion 7404VGP (ADSL2+ modem + wireless router + voIP)
Airport Express Firmware v6.3
Previously I had been using a Netcomm Wireless router with WEP encryption. I got my AE to join that for ~5mths & everything worked great.
I've recently had to change ISP & modem/router (hence the Billion) & set up the AE in the exact same way as the Netcomm, but now with WPA2 encryption. And the AE becomes 'undetectable' but iTunes & Airport Admin Utility after a certain amount of time (I have noted my router's renewal interval's 3600s also, so that must be the time after which the AE drops off).
I have scoured websites/forums everything for a solution, but so far with no success. I have even read somewhere that ensuring SSID broadcast is ON in the router settings solves it. If it does, it hasn't yet for me.
I have called Mac Customer Support (In Australia) a few times about this issue, each time with no satisfactory outcome.
I wondered if I made my encryption back to WEP (as opposed to WPA2), maybe the key renewal interval stops being an issue, and the AE would stop dropping off?
(I'm not very technically minded, so don't REALLY know the different btw WEP & WPA2 except that WPA2's encryption's much better).
I wondered also: instead of using my AE to join my existing network, what if I made it a WDS client? I had read somewhere that WPA2 & WDS do not work together, and a WDS can only be set up with WEP encryption.
Can AirTunes still work if the AE is a WDS client?
If I tried (really hard) to set up a WDS with WEP encryption, would my AE stop 'disappearing from iTunes?'
The whole notion of having to physically unplug & replug the AE just to get AirTunes working most times is really defeating the purpose of having a wireless network!
Has anyone out there found a solution for this apparently common problem yet?

Hey, There are afew things you can try.
- Simply turn your phone off and back on again
- Hold down your home button and your lock button and let goes as soon as the screen goes black (Phone will power down) - Then turn on your phone and hey presto!
- Back up your iPhone to your PC, then restore it..
this ones last cause I think you may have tried it already..
- Close all open applications

Open the Security pane of System Preferences and set it to require a password to unlock each secure pane. This is designed to stop people using the computer from changing the settings and won't do anything if an issue on the computer itself causes the change.
