Airport see Canon mp460 but not Snow Leopard

Hi
I have a Canon MP460 connected directly in my airport extreme and share via wifi to my MacBook Pro.
When I was on Leopard it work perfectly but when I upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6.1, the printer does'nt work anymore.
When I go to airport utility, the airport see the printer but when I go on the mac in the preference, there is no printer at all even if I try to ad it.
I try to install the printer driver from Canon site and also from the Apple site and nothing happen.
Any idea?
note:The airport extreme is updated to th latest firmware

If the printer is not appearing in the Default browser view, then this has nothing to do with the printer drivers.
Bonjour is used to publish the printer when it is connected to the USB of an Airport device. Normally when you select to Add a printer and then choose the Default view, the printer name should show with its Kind column showing Bonjour. If you do not see the printer displayed this way, then something must be blocking this. Since the built-in Firewall doesn't block the Bonjour protocol, do you have something else on your network that could be blocking it.

  • ITunes 9 64-bit for Windows, but not Snow Leopard?

So I installed iTunes 9 on my MBP running Snow Leopard, and when I go into Activity Monitor, under the CPU tab, in the "kind" column it clearly singles out iTunes as the ONLY app not running in 64-bit. Now doing a brief search the only discussion of a 64-bit app seems to be a Windows vers. No way would APPLE write a 64-bit vers for windows w/o writing one for their own OS, RIGHT!?!?! I installed iTunes using "Software Update" under the apple menu. I assume it would give me the best option (64 bit vs 32 bit) if there were in fact 2 versions available for Mac. I am confused, can someone clear this up?

Mark, it's not just you! I followed the instructions at http://yukichigai.googlepages.com/iphonex64 with several previous upgrades, which worked like a charm except for a near-bricking scare at the last firmware upgrade that I was able to fix with my husband's 32-bit system. last night, I got this exact error as well. I really don't want to have to move my library to our 32-bit machine and kick my hubby off every time I need to sync, but if there's no workaround, that may be what I have to do. I don't know if I'm angrier at apple for not making clear on the iphone box or documentation this issue with XP64 and not going to the bother of making itunes play nicely, microsoft for creating this version of XP. or the person who built my PC who extolled the virtues of XP64 in the first place. thank goodness I have another computer, or I'd REALLY be SOL.

  • EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED: iCloud works on Win 7/Vista but not Snow Leopard???

I just found out that iCloud has a control Panel for Windows 7 and Vista.... WINDOWS.... REALLY???
Two MICROSOFT Operating Systems OLDER than Snow Leopard, but Apple does NOT support ICloud on Snow Leopord????
I have been a Paying member of MobilMe and it's predecessor .Mac for over 8 years, and I cannot move to Lion yet because many
the professional Apps I use for business still don't wotk on Lion!
So when Mobilme expires this year I'm burned as far as Syncing all my devices!!!
I have been an EXTREME Mac advocate for years, but this is simply WRONG!!!
    FIX IT PLEASE????

You should be able to continue to sync all of your devices with iCloud. Some parts of iCloud work fine in Snow Leopard.

  • ICloud available for Windows Vista, but not Snow Leopard???

I have Multipal Macs with the Core Duo chipset that can not run LION and no $$$$ to upgrade hardware right now.
WHY does Windows VISTA get iCloud suport but I who can't upgrade to LION do not?
I understand leaving out Leaopard, but SNOW too?

With the removal of Rosetta in Lion and the requirement for Lion in order to use iCloud Macs are no longer an option for poeple that need to be able to run older applications.
Many places bought Macs because they could run just about anything, Windows, Linux, PPC software, even Classic applications via Sheepshaver.
The big issue is the loss of being able to run PPC applications. Freehand, Pagemaker, Framemaker, Quicken to name just a few applications that will never be ported. People and businesses have huge amounts of documents in these formats. It's not stuff that is used regularly but it is files that need to be accessed and sometimes modified.
All these applications can run on a modern Windows machine as can iCloud but not on a Mac running Lion.
While I'm complaining... I setup a bunch of Macs, iOS devices and some PCs all on iCloud today. The loss of email account syncing meant I had to spend hours setting up email on each machine ( each device had just under a dozen accounts on it)  instead of just one machine and having it propagate to all the other devices. Going to be real fun trying to keep email rules in sync on all the Macs.

  • FF plugin checking reports java applet plugin vulnerable on OS X Lion but not Snow Leopard?

On Firefox 10.0.1 running on OS X 10.7.3, the mozilla.org plugincheck tells me that my Java Applet Plug-in is Vulnerable while running the same check on FF 10.0.1 on my Mini running 10.6.8 indicates that the Java Plu-in 2 for NPAPI Browsers is ok. The version of Java on both systems is the same (version 1.6.0.29). Why the discrepancy? Is there something I need to fix on the 10.7.3 system?

No because Java on OS X comes from Apple, not Oracle and is updated whenever Apple gets around to it.

I have hand-installed the NVidia graphics driver, and I have keyboard, minimal trackpad, and hardwire to internet all working. So the WIndows machine is usable. But I am hurting for wi-fi, better trackpad, and whatever else is delivered by Boot Camp. I can't use any of the Boot Camp upgrades because I do not have XP or Vista.

While we all have MacBooks in this forum not all of us use Boot Camp. There's a Boot Camp Support Community where everybody uses Boot Camp. You should also post this question there.

  • Bonjour - Mac A can see Mac B but not vice versa

    Hi
Very odd behaviour with Bonjour. Up until yesterday, my macbook pro (call it A) would see my mac pro (B) - it would appear automatically in A's sidebar, I could listen to B's iTunes library on A and so on. No problem and there hasn't been for a couple of years. B could not see A - but I didn't really need it to and this wasn't an issue.
Suddenly, this morning, the situation is completely reversed. A can no longer see B at all, but B can see A.
I can connect both ways by using 'Connect', I can ping both ways, but I can't get A to discover B using Bonjour.
The only think I've done that I can think can have caused the changes is to use Omnifocus sync (with B holding the sync server) - it worked fine all day, but overnight Bonjour seems to have reversed itself as described above.
Bonjour Browser shows me that B can see A, but A can't see B. I have identical settings on both machines for sharing, network, firewall (all everything).
Bizarrely, for one two minute period a couple of hours ago, the situation reversed itself (A could see B but not vice versa), but then immediately went back to B can see A, but not vice versa.
Both computers are running the same version of Leopard (10.5.7). I've reinstalled the OS on B, just to see, but this hasn't improved matters.
I can find nothing on google or this discussions forum to explain this bizarre behaviour - most support threads seem to peter out without being resolved. Has anyone any idea what's going on please? I'm quite happy getting stuck into the command line, if that's needed.
    Many thanks
    David

The Macbook Pro is connected wirelessly to the router, the Mac Pro connects to the same router by ethernet.
As far as I'm aware, I'd made no changes to any of the setups (computers or router) before the problem occurred: bonjour worked fine, but in one direction only (the MBP could see the Mac Pro, but not vice versa). Now, the Mac Pro can see the MBP, but not vice versa - and this is a problem because my printer and itunes server both sit on the Mac Pro.
I've set all the firewall and security settings I could find to transparent access - and (except for the obvious difference between the wired and wireless links), the setups are identical on both computers.
By the way, I can connect to the Mac Pro easily enough and transfer files, I just can't see it via bonjour or use Screen Sharing (again the settings haven't changed since they were working!)
    Many thanks
    David

If they are the grey discs which came with the iMac, then they will be machine specific and will not work on the MBP anyway. You will need to purchase a retail copy of Snow Leopard from the Apple Store for about $29 and upgrade from that. I presume your MBP is Intel and not G4.

It appears what happened is the installer though it was looking at a empty drive and just went ahead and installed.
I of course am assuming here you didn't use Disk Utility to format the drive first before installing, that would wipe out your files and programs for sure.
So what to do, what to do.
Well there is hope for you as long as the drive wasn't Filevaulted.
I'll explain. When a hard drive writes data for the first time to a drive, it starts at the very top and works it's way down.
When OS X was installed the first time, it was at the top of the drive, unless you upgraded then the upgraded OS X could have been written elsewhere.
Now when you just reinstalled OS X, the new OS went on the top of the drive, overwriting any data that was there previously, so what was there you have lost forever which is about 8GB or so. If it was the previous OS there, then your more in luck because only the old OS X was overwritten.
The remaining space on the drive still can have a copy of your files, provided it's not overwritten yet.
It's because when a hard drive deletes data or reformats, it doesn't remove the data off the drive or overwrites it immediately, it's just made so it's SPACE is available for new files to be written there.
So technically one can recover the deleted data off a non-encrypted/scrubbed hard drive with special software.
The way it does this is it reads the 1's and 0's of the files themselves, and through a lot of figuring out, can tell what that file is and what it belongs too.
So what you will have to do is this:
Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive
or if you don't have the skills, then take it to a local PC/Mac tech and they can do a direct image of the drive and then you can run Data Rescue on it to rebuild your files.

Apple TV uses iTunes. The reason you can't rent through your ATV is because you can't rent movies through iTunes Canada. Sadly, as this is a user-to-user forum, no one here would know when or if rentals will come to Canada.

  • Document library: user can see the metadata but not the file itself

    Hello,
For a specific document library certain users will have the right to see the metadata but not the file itself. The only solution I can  think of is using a http handler. But I don't know if I can get the user that requests the document.
Are there any other approaches to this requirement?
Can I get the username of the user that makes that request?
I guess that http handler is deployed at the Web application level - am I right?
    Thank you
    Christos

Nicolas, thank you for your answer.
I think this this is not a strong protection. Everybody can istall sp designer or go through UNC path, like \\myserver\documentlibray or \\myserver\lists\mylist and see the documents- and we use unc paths a lot. I don't want to get into trouble when a (wiki)
    leak is made.

  • Wirelessly iTunes see my iPhone, but not my iPad

wirelessly iTunes see my iPhone, but not my iPad???

You do NOT have to plug the iPad into a power source to sync with WiFi. I sync without plugging my iPad every day. Like Dah-veed, I do not auto sync. If you have all of the settings configured correctly, the iPad does not have to be plugged in to a power source to sync with WiFi.
The iPad will sync AUTOMATICALLY, if the iPad is plugged into a power source and if iTunes is running on your computer. It does not have to be plugged in to sync manually.
When is set up to sync wirelessly - I made the selections like Dah-veed indicated above and then I clicked on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes to lock in the setting. You have to apply the changes that you make in the iTunes sync process.
BTW - I have the original iPad - not the iPad 2.
