AirPort Setup Assistant says my Airport Card is "not configured"

I'm trying to install an AirPort Express Base Station that I got for xmas.
I'm using a MacBook Pro 17" with OS X 10.5.1, and my goal with the AirPort Express is to plug it into a stereo to play iTunes wirelessly.
By the way I use AirPort on my MacBook every day, all the time, for internet access through another base station which is plugged into the internet.
Okay, so when I launch the AirPort Setup Assistant and hit the continue button it immediately tells me "AirPort card not configured. In order to use the AirPort Setup Assitant your AirPort card must be enabled and AirPort needs to be turned on and set to use DHCP. Click OK if you would like to change these settings, or Skip if you would like to configure AirPort Base Stations using ethernet."
After I click OK it tells me:
"AirPort card error. There was an error communicating with your AirPort card. Please make sure it is installed properly and try the AirPort Setup Assistant again."
Obviously my AirPort card is working fine, or I wouldn't be able to post on this forum!
When I open Network Preferences I see AirPort is connected to my home network. In the Advanced Settings, on the TCP/IP tab I see that "Configure IPv4" is set to "Using DHCP". And "Configure IPv6" is set to "Automatically" (Not that I have any idea what these two things mean!)
Maybe someone on this forum is much smarter than me with this stuff? Ack!

That solved it! Thank you very much.
Apple, if you're listening, it would be nice if something in the install flow had checked with my OS or something to see if I still needed to install what was on the CD. All I did was open the package (which was purchased in December) and follow directions, and wound up with a problem not covered in the documentation.
Thanks to Tesserax I'm still a happy customer.

  • AirPort Setup Assistant does not find AirPort Extreme

    Hello,
I am trying to stream music to my home stereo. My setup is exactly like the one displayed on page 17 of http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/AirPortExpress_Setup_Guidev4.2.pdf
AirPort Setup Assistant shows my AirPort Extreme, but not the AirPort Express. I did hard-reset the AirPort Express several times, but the light stays amber and the Setup Assistant does not discover the AirPort Express.
Until I changed the configuration (prior I had an AirPort Express only), I was able to use a shared network with a PC, so I don't believe the AirPort Express is defective.
Is there anything else I can do?
    Thanks,
    Fidelio

    P.S.
I was able to solve my problem. It turned out that the AirPort Express software was outdated. So I connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the Ethernet port of the AirPort Extreme. Then used the AirPortExpressFWUpdater.dmg to upload the latest software. Finally I followed the instructions posted by Tesserax at http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=5342301#5342301 and it worked.

  • Can't Find Airport Setup Assistant - Help!

    Hello All,
I have been given an airport express unit and wish to set it up to play itunes wirelessly. I have a wireless connection to the internet using a router and want to link airport to this existing network to be able to play music. However I cannot find the airport express setup assistant, the things I have tries are as follows:
    - When I plug in the unit, I get a flashing amber light
    - In utilities the only option is airport utility, setup assistant doesn't seem to exist on this mac
    - Airport utility is unable to discover wireless devices
    - When I put the setup cd in that came with the pack and install, it says 'You cannot install AirPort 4.0 on this volume. Your AirPort software is currently up to date.'
    - I have tried downloading new airport software using software update and it is totally up to date, but I still can't find the mythical 'airport setup assistant' I need
    - All other support articles require the 'airport setup assistant'
Any advice or hints would be much appreciated, it can't be that I am the only one that has had this problem!
    Thanks

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
AirPort Utility is the successor to AirPort Setup Assistant, so you should use that.
    - Airport utility is unable to discover wireless devices
The AirPort Express is probably broadcasting a different network ID. You won't be able to see it wirelessly in AirPort Utility without switching to that network. Until you can complete the configuration process, I'd connect the AirPort Express to your computer with an Ethernet cable.
You should also consider doing a complete reset of the AirPort Express. Press in on the reset button (a small gray button near the connectors), then apply power while continuing to press on the button. Hold in the button until the status light flashes several times.

  • AirPort Setup Assistant Crashing

I bought an AirPort Express to add to my existing AirPort Extreme to extend the range of my wireless network in my home.
Each time I try to use the AirPort Setup Assistant to configure the AirPort Express, the application crashes. Sometimes it crashes after the very first setup question; other times it's a few questions in. Invariably, Setup crashes before I can complete the setup.
I am unable to configure my AirPort Express because the Setup application keeps crashing before I can complete the configuration, rendering the AirPort Express useless.
    Any advice?

If it was only that easy.
I have tried configuring through the AirPort Admin Utility, but invariably get an error message saying that the AirPort Extreme base station does not recognize the AirPort Express. (The assigned name for the AirPort Express shows up on the menu, but after the configuration loads, I get the error message, basically putting me back at square one.)
Setup does not work through the Setup Assistant OR Admin Utility. I wasted four hours trying to set up my AirPort Express, to no avail.
But that's not my question or the point.
My question is: Is there a reason why the Setup Assistant crashes? Or should I simply accept the fact that it crashes and "try using the AirPort Admin Utility"--which DOES NOT WORK.
My point is: The documentation for setup is basically useless. Should I simply return the AirPort Express, since it's clear that I'm not the only customer who has found this product to be evertything it's not advertised to be?
    Just wondering.

  • Airport Setup Assistant 3.4.3

Does anybody know where I can get this update. I desperately need it for my airport card.

I suspect your problem is that you want to configure a Snow or Graphite Base Station, and that won't work with the version of the Airport Setup Assistant supplied with MacOS 10.4.2. Does that summarize the problem correctly?
If so, why don't you just use the Airport Admin Utility provided with MacOS 10.4.2 - it will work just fine to configure an older Base Station.

  • No Airport Setup Assistant??

I've just bought a new MacBook from Apple along with an Airport Express. I've gotten high-speed internet from Comcast and I'm trying to setup my Airport Express. I've plugged the Airport Express in and it flashes amber as it hasn't been set-up just yet. When on my MacBook, I looked for the Airport Setup Assistant in the Utilities folder but it wasn't there. This is my first time using Leopord, as I'm used to using Tiger and that's where I've gone in the past to solve Airport-related problems. I typed Airport Setup Assistant into the Spotlight, but it didn't find anything. The help menu under System Preferences told me to look for the Setup Assistant in the Utilities folder so I'm not sure why it's not there. I figured it didn't get installed with my computer somehow, so I reinstalled the software bundle that came on the Mac OSX system disks. Unfortunately, it still did not show up after a restart. In the Airport menu, my Airport Express doesn't show up at all. It's brand-new, so I'm not sure why it wouldn't work. If anyone has any advice on how to find the Airport Setup Assistant, or why it's not in the Utilities folder where it usually is, please let me know what I can do to solve this problem. Thanks in advance.

Hello Ruthie & Ed. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
The 4.x versions of the AirPort utilities (AirPort Admin Utility & the AirPort Setup Assistant) have been replaced with the new 5.x AirPort Utility. This new utility, which comes with Leopard, has both a manual & an automatic (Assist Me) mode similar to what was provided by the AirPort Setup Assistant. You'll find the new AirPort Utility in your /Applications/Utilities folder.

  • Airport Setup Assistant crashes during launch.

Airport Setup Assistant crashes during launch. So I am not able to set up my printer.
How do I install a new copy?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
AirPort Setup Assistant is outdated (at least for Mac OS X 10.4 or later).
As you have posted in the "AirPort Graphite and Snow for Macintosh" forum, I gather that you use a Graphite or Snow (a/k/a "Dual Ethernet") AirPort base station. No version of AirPort Setup Assistant works under OS 10.4 or later with a Graphite or Snow base station. In order to configure the base station, use AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow, which you can download here.
For an AirPort Extreme or AirPort Express base station or a Time Capsule, AirPort Setup Assistant has been superseded by AirPort Utility. You can download AirPort Utility for Leopard here.

  • How can I reinstall airport setup assistant & airport admin utility

It's a long story but I accidentally deleted my support software for my Airport Express (the airport setup assistant and airport admin utility).
I tried downloading the AirPort 4.1 update, but I can't install it because I am told there is a newer version already installed on my computer.
I have no idea how to get the airport express software back, aside from re-installing my OS, which I would rather not do.
    G4 12"   Mac OS X (10.4)

"There must be something somehwhere on the system that makes the computer think that the original software is still there."
    Hi ChezFerranti!
Yes, an installation receipt. Deleting receipts is not recommended.
It's probably best to download and install the 10.4.9 Combo Update, and that should re-insert the two missing utilities into your OS, since it wouldn't depend on seeing a receipt.
The pertinent receipt is "AirPortConfigApps.pkg" in HDD>Library>Receipts. That was the installation of the AirPort 4.2 software Update in July of 2005. It is no longer a separate item at Downloads, except for someone with a Panther OS (10.3). This means that it was folded into a later OS X Tiger Software Update, which is why the 10.4.9 Combo Update should be able to replace those utilities for you. The problem with simply deleting the receipt is that when you install a new version, then you'd get duplicate files of everything else that was part of that July 2005 AirPort 4.2 Update.
"aside from re-installing my OS, which I would rather not do"
There should be no need to do that. The 10.4.9 Combo Update should do essentially the same thing for you, W/O duplicating anything! Best of luck:)

  • Airport Setup Assistant ...

    Hello,
I have had my MacBook a little under a year and I'm trying to setup my Airport. However, Airport Setup Assistant seems to be missing from the 'Utilities' folder.
How might I get it back?
    Many thanks.

Airport Utility does the same job as Airport Setup Assistant used to. Run that, and you will be able to configure your Airport.
    Cheers,
    Rodney

  • Linksys router not seen by Airport Setup Assistant

I recently started using a linksys router instead of and airport extreme, it's working, I am able to access the internet. But, my problem is I cannot see it in the Airport set up Assistant. I have not been able to setup my Airport Express because I can't see my wireless router.
    Any one have any ideas?

Bronco46, Welcome to the discussion area!
I recently started using a linksys router ... my problem is I cannot see it in the Airport set up Assistant.
The AirPort Setup Assistant and AirPort Admin Utility are ONLY for Apple's base stations and therefore won't give you access to the Linksys router.
You need to access the Linksys user's guide and follow the directions for using your browser to configure the Linksys router.
I have not been able to setup my Airport Express because I can't see my wireless router.
Configuring the AirPort Express (AX) has nothing to do with configuring the Linksys router. Configure the AX following the directions in KB 302153, AirPort Express: How to join an existing wireless network in client mode.

  • Airport Setup Issue - No new airport networks were found

I just purchased an Airport Express today. I plugged it in, plugged an ethernet cable into it and it gives me a green light. I went to the Airport Setup Assistant and click on Setup a New Aiport Base Station. At this point it says "No new airport networks were found". What am I doing wrong? I know the internet connection is working and I've accessed other wireless networks before, so it must have to do with the Airport Express itself or my lack of ability to setup it up properly. Is there something I'm missing.
    Thanks!

Have you tried resetting it with a paper clip? Push the reset button in until the light starts to blink, then release and wait for it to restart. Try restarting airport on your Mac.

Typically this indicates a device that has been hacked to be unlocked or jailbroken.
If that is the case, no support can be provided here.

What do I do if my phone blacked out, then re-set it, but now says my sim card is not installed!

Honestly it sounds like you purchased a no-contract phone and not an unlocked phone.
Without the receipt it is impossible to say what was really purchased.  Contact Apple to get a copy of the receipt.  If you did infact purchase an unlocked iPhone, then they will resolve it.
What model iPhone do you actually have?  Paying $700 for and iPhone 4 would have meant it was purchased approximately 2yrs ago.  Also, there is no 35gb model.
If it is the iPhone 5, the unlocked version was not available at launch but rather released (online only) on November 30th.  Later it was available in store.

Are you able to go back to the store that you bought it from and ask them to activate it properly ? If not then you will need to try contacting iTunes Support (you will probably need to give them images of the front and back of the card, and possibly its receipt) : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then iTunes Cards And Codes
