Airport status has yellow dot instead of green, why?

trying to set up a computer to computer network between my old ibook g3 (osx 10.3.9) and my mini (10.4.2). If I look at network status on the ibook, the airport card has a green dot. the status on the mini has a yellow dot. I'm unable to see either computer from the other. I have the same share settings on both computers. In Finder just tried Go/Connect to Server/Jerrys-iBook.local, and the same from the ibook the mini, and neither comptuer would connect.
What am I doing wrong here? The only difference besides the OS is the mini has an Extreme and the iBook has Airport (b vs. g).
Any help would be appreciated.
I want to set up VNC, but I'm not going to even install it until I get this sorted out.

You need to "create" the computer-to-computer network on only one of the two Macs; the other Mac should be configured to "join" the wireless network that has been created. You might start by reviewing http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=166640 and see if it corresponds to what you did.
If you think this has been properly set up, follow this advice I've copied from elsewhere for setting up file sharing between the two Macs:
The first step is: on each computer, go into System Preferences, then Sharing, and turn on "Personal File Sharing". On that page, you'll see, at the top, the computer's name (which you can change), and at the bottom, the IP number (eg 10.0.1.2), which you may need as an alternative.
Then, on each computer, go to Finder, then click on Network. You may straightaway see the other computer appear - you can click on it, click "Connect", and then either log in as a user (it has to be a user that's been set up on that machine), or a guest.
As a guest, you can access all Public folders on the computer.
As a user, you can access that user's Home folder
As an admin user, you can access the whole hard drive.
So, if you have different user accounts set up on the computers, it's best to use Guest access and then put the files you're sharing in your user's Public folder.
Now, if that computer doesn't immediately appear, go to the Finder, click cmd-K (to open the Connect to Server dialogue), and type in
afp://ip-address-of-other-computer
eg afp://10.0.1.2
You'll then get the same login dialogue as above.

    Dotted = WiFi.

  • Yellow status in assets as opposed to green status

when importing video assets, sometimes the status color is yellow as opposed to green. when it is yellow, it runs into problems while im burning. any way to make the yellow status turn green if that is even the problem?

    Hi:
Yellow assets need to be encoded by DVDSP. If you encode your movies and audio in Compressor before importing them, you'll get green assets that not need to be encoded by DVDSP itself.
Encoding your audio with Compressor lets you create AC3 (Dolby) audio files that take less space and bitrate from your project.
    Hope that helps !

  • Why my airport express has a yellow light

why my airport express has a yellow light (not blinking)

Before doing a reset try the Airport Utility via Finder > Applications > Utilities ... this might give you a reason for the flashing light.   It could be something simple like the software needs updating.

  • 6950 2Go : green and yellow dots after a few minutes of play

    Hi,
I bought a radeon hd 6950 a few days ago. I didn't have any problem playing GTA 4 with my old graphic card but now I have some issues with the 6950. After a few minutes of play, some green and yellow dots (or crosses) randomly appear onscreen.
I have uninstalled my previous driver before installing the 6950. I have the catalyst 11.4 installed. Msi live update doesn't find any newer bios and the fan works. Do you know what the problem could be ?
Edit : here are my specs :
    CPU phenom 2 x4 965BE 3.4ghz
motherboard gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3 bios F10 (latest)
    Memory 2x4 GB CORSAIR DDR3 PC3-12800
    video card MSI R6950-2PM2D2GD5
hard drive Western Digital 500 Go 32 Mo 7200 tr/min - SATA II - Caviar Black
    A PCI express wifi card
    OS Windows seven 64
    PSU Corsair TX V2 650W +12V~53A, +5V~30A, +3.3V~30A

I play GTA 4 on steam. I checked the cache in case and it's ok.
It might be a problem with GTA4 now that you name it. I turned the game off as soon as the artifacts appeared for fear that it would damage my expensive device. The artifacts always appeared 4 minutes after I loaded my savegame. That's why I thought of a memory overload or a heat issue. However I eventually noticed that the game follows a weather scheme, and that it always rains 4 minutes after I load my savegame.
So I googled rain+GTA 4 and I found other people with similar issues. So it might be software related after all.

  • Airport status in menubar - remove the time connected??

    Hi there,
A small question, but the answer has been eluding me.
I have just gotten a new imac with Leopard, my first experience with it. I have the airport status showing in the menubar, and it also displays the time connected.
I don't want to see the time connected and want to turn this part of the display off. However i cannot find anywhere, where I can do this! On my old comp, running 10.4, I am able to turn it off. However I can't remember how to do it.
    Anyone able to enlighten me?

I looked at the article you found and followed the instructions -- I guess I wasn't used to having a submenu there and didn't think to look. We just installed a Time Capsule as our main router and had to set up the options differently -- the TC runs NAT instead of the modem as it used to. Once we got the TC working correctly, that timer appeared -- I figured it had to do with the connection time, but I thought at one point, our modem disconnected but the timer kept increasing. So, I wasn't even sure what it was for.
To clarify, if you want to get rid of the timer, click on the airport icon on the menu bar and you'll find there is a submenu for your network. In that submenu, you'll find an option for showing the time connected & you'll be able to turn it off.

  • Problem With Airport Status Icon After Snow Leopard Installation

Everything seemed to go well except on the Menu bar where the Airport status antenna is. Normally it shows a digital timer showing how long my internet connection has been up ( I use PPPoe ). After the install the icon shows that I'm connected to my AEBS, the network is up and the internet connection is up as well, can access mail and all web sites. Airport Utility shows no problems and that the connection is up but that digital timer no longer shows up at the icon. Does anyone have ideas? I did repair permissions and restarted the computer but no luck. And I have show Airport status checked in system preferences.
    John

I too am facing issues with the Airport status icon in the menu bar after I upgraded to 10.6.
My internet connection works fine over Airport, I am even writing this post using my airport connection. When I go into the Settings panel and further into Network I get a green status indication on my Airport connection. So far nothing out of the ordinary.
But, when I look at the status icon on the menu bar the icon is dimmed out, as if I did not have a connection. When I click on it it says that I have not installed an airport card. Though obviously I have!
Anyone else facing the same issue?

It looks like you're using BasicStrokes to create dashed lines
    plot.getRenderer().setSeriesStroke(
        0,
        new BasicStroke(
            2.0f, BasicStroke.CAP_ROUND, BasicStroke.JOIN_ROUND,
            1.0f, new float[] {10.0f, 6.0f}, 0.0f
    plot.getRenderer().setSeriesStroke(
        1,
        new BasicStroke(
            2.0f, BasicStroke.CAP_ROUND, BasicStroke.JOIN_ROUND,
            1.0f, new float[] {6.0f, 6.0f}, 0.0f
    plot.getRenderer().setSeriesStroke(
        2,
        new BasicStroke(
            2.0f, BasicStroke.CAP_ROUND, BasicStroke.JOIN_ROUND,
            1.0f, new float[] {2.0f, 6.0f}, 0.0f
); Is this not what you want? If you want points instead of dashes you just specify *1f* for first argument in the float array
new BasicStroke(...,...,...,...,new float[]{1f,6f},....); That indicates that you want the dashed regions to be ~1 pixel long - that is, a point - and the empty regions between the dashes to be ~6 pixels long.

  • Request Status stays yellow after successful load

We recently started loading two infocubes from the same data source.
    - The Monitor shows that the load completed normally with no errors.
    - Manage on the first cube shows that the status is green and the data available for reporting.
    - Manage on the second cube shows the data is not avaialble and the status is yellow.
There seems to be no problems with the load. I can manualy force the status from yellow to green and the data is available for reporting.  But I don't want to have to manully change the status after each load.  Any ideas on why the status stays yellow?  Any thoughts on what I can do?
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Nagesh,
Looks like your suggestion will solve this.  It was not checked for the one that was staying yellow.  It was checked for the cube that would go to green.  I'll run a test then come back and award points.

  • DSO reporting icon was displayed although load status was "Yellow"/"Red"

    Hi,
Whilst loading a DSO, I observed that the reporting icon was displayed even when the load was in status "Yellow" and in one instance, the reporting icon displayed even when the status of the load to the DSO was "Red" i.e it had failed. I would reckon that the DSO reporting icon would be displayed only after the load was successful including the activation step. Why then was the reporting icon displaying when the load was not successful.? Is this an SAP bug.
    Any thoughts, gurus!
    Thanks
    Kevin

    Hi,
I don't understand this. In a Standard DSO if the Quality Status is set to Automatic then the report shows as Green in the Quality Status Icon. However, data is still in the "New Data Table" and is not yet updated in the Active data table/change log unless the activation is done. If the Activation is done, only the will the data be available in the Active Data table/Change log.
It is only afther this data is available that the reporting icon is displayed.
If the Qualilty status is Yellow/Red the activation cannot be done. In whcih case there is no question of data being available in Active Table/Change log and hence the reporting icon should not be displayed.
Therefore, I am not able to understand the anomalous behavior of the display of the reporting icon even when the Qualtiy Status is Yellow/Green
@Experts: Is there something that I am missing
    Thanks
    Kevin
