Airport suddenly needs to be rebooted every day

I have a client with an AirPort Extreme. He has been using it for several
years without a problem. Suddenly EVERY day (definitely when he wakes up in
the morning and sometimes at other points in the day - as far as I can tell
when the computer is idle) the status light blinks yellow.
When this happens he looses the wireless connection. If I plug an ethernet
cable into the AirPort it shows up under the AirPort Admin Utility, but is
unable to read the configuration to determine what the AP is unhappy about.
A simple power cycle fixes the problem.
I first thought it might be a problem with the AP so I replaced it with a
new one (having the latest firmware).
Same problem.
I have since replaced all ethernet cables and the Time Warner Road Runner
cable modem. Same problem.
I even tried a LinkSys router in front of the AP and put the AP in bridge
mode, but no joy.
A few other points:
If I sleep the MacBook I CAN NOT get the problem to happen (I am only
waiting max 10 min)
We "coincidentally" replaced his 3 year old MacBook with a new one (with OS
10.61) a few days before this problem started. I cant see how this could be
the problem as it happens when the computer is sleeping and the fix is to
reboot the AP not the computer, but the timing is awfully suspicious.
I dont know what else to try. Any ideas?
Thanks

If both devices are producing a wireless network, there is an increased chance of wireless interference between them, especiallyi if they are located in the same room. If you normally only one use one wireless network, it would make sense to turn the other one off.

Does the fact that I have a router and the airport express cause some redundancy?

  • IMac reboots every day at 5:56 AM

Recently my work hours changed, so I'm now up at 5:30 AM instead of 6:30. Because of this, I was able to observe that my iMac G4 - sound asleep as I recently was at this hour - reboots every day at 5:56 AM precisely. Obviously some timed script is running, but I can't figure out what it is, where it "lives", and how to stop it. I have the Cocktail utility, so I ran the daily "cron" script - but the system did not reboot. The only things connected to the iMac are speakers, a Lacie 250 GB Firewire HD, and a M-Audio Keystation 49e USB keyboard (not powered on). I have no idea how long this has been going on since I've never been up this early until recently. Anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this?

Problem solved - and boy do I feel stoopid!
After checking out all the suggestions offered, I went to visist the iMac in question (located in the "family" room in the basement) at 5:54 AM this morning, coffee in hand. At precisely 5:56 AM (by my watch) the UPS shut down for a moment and then turned back on. The UPS battery is obviously fried, so the UPS shutdown/restart "reboots" the iMac (set to restart after power failure). Since the iMac is in the basement, I must have missed the warning beeps that signal battery failure. So what causes the UPS to restart at 5:56 AM? I had this experience years ago at a firm located in an industrial park - some nearby factory had machinery that started up the same time every day - heavy duty stuff - and it sent a huge "spike" down the line which wrecked havoc with out network backups. I suspect the same thing here - something "heavy duty" goes on-line at 5:56 AM and creates a power "spike" (or whatever) - the UPS senses the "spike" and shuts down to "spare" the devices connected to it, but since it can no longer provide power while it's off, it effectively "reboots" the iMac.
Solution - buy a new UPS!
Thanks to all who chimed in - sorry it wasn't something more exotic!

  • Firewall RV 220W reboots every day

    English
Hello, like the tittle says every day at leats once this firewall restarts, and when all the services are up again the router doesn´t give any ip to the lapstops in the lan, so i need to reboot the firewall one more time ( and that takes about two minutes each time) and then it works.
I would like to know why this happing to this device.
    Saludos

I too had a similar situation with that router doing random reboots. I saved all configuration information, did a hard factory reset, then installed the latest firmware 1.0.5.8 and re-entered all the configuration settings BY HAND. Do not restore the configuration file from the prior setup. (Very important according to Cisco). Be sure to reboot after entering all the configuration settings.
It has operated rock solid after that with no errors logged or unwanted reboots.
    Hope this helps.

  • Hub 3 needs to be restarted every day to restore s...

    Hi
Every day, our Hub 3 needs restarting to restore our speed. It has been constantly 37+ MBPS for months. Recently, both wired LAN and wireless connections have slowed to 3Mbps.
Speeds checked on BT Wholesale Speedchecker, Lan and Wifi
    All ususal checks completd
Used BT to check the following:
    Line Checked = OK
Problems in our area = 0
Used Inssider to identify wireless channel 1 as clear from interference. Speeds still drop (Both Lan and Wifi)
Reset the Hub and Hey Presto, speedy Wifi and Lan for a few hours.
Wake up in the morning, same old story, slooow infinity.
Reset the Hub and Hey Presto, speedy Wifi and Lan.
Get home from work, slow again, and around in circles we go for another week.

Make a direct connection from your PC to the modem which will eliminate the homehub. Follow this guide to do that. Use your computer as normal for a while to see what speeds you get. If the speeds do not improve you will know it is probably a faulty hub. Obviously you can not use wireless devices or other wired connections when doing this.
Step 1: Remove the homehub from the modem
Step2: Connect your pc/laptop into the modem using LAN1 port
Step3: Open network and sharing centre on windows and click set up a new connection or network
Step4: Connect to the internet then click make a new connection Broadband PPPoE
Step5: Username [email protected] and the password as BT
Step6: connect, If it doesn't,keep pressing try again until it does.

  • My iMac needs to be rebooted every time I put it to sleep

My iMac needs to be rebooted almost every time when I wake it from sleeping. Is this normal?  Ether the screen darkens and it will tell me to reboot by holding down the power button or the screen is just totally blank. It's been doing it for a long time and I thought it was just mac security updates running in the backgrownd or something but it seems to be getting worse.
    Thanks

    Do this:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.

  • Need to Reinstall iTunes every day

I buy a lot of TV episodes on iTunes. However, every time I try to play one, if it's the first time I've played an episode that day (I shut down at night), the video screen pauses for a moment, turns green, and then displays an error stating that the application needs to close. I need to completely uninstall, and reinstall iTunes to get it to work. But then I turn off my computer for the night, and the next day it's the same thing. Needless to say, I'm getting tired of it.
I have re-downloaded the installer, and I have disabled anti-virus software, neither of which did any good. No other programs have any problems whatsoever, so it's not hardware related.
Has anyone encountered a problem like this in the past? Does anyone know what could be causing it?
I'm using Windows Vista x64. (I've tried both the 32- and 64-bit versions of iTunes.)

I never had problems with iTunes before installing the Windows Explorer 8.
Afterwards, several problems have appeared, and as far as iTunes is concerned I need to reinstall iTunes every times my computer is newly booted up.
I think Explorer 8 is the culpritt.
Did anyone solve this problem ?

  • Wrt600n connectivity loss requiring router reboot every day

the fun never stops with this router. i have to say that out of the 5 previous AP's / routers, this one has had more issues than the previous 5 combined.
at any rate, i am now seeing the ap lose all network connectivity every day, or every other day at best. i have to then reboot the thing, and the cycle repeats.
has anyone else seen this behavior, and if so any suggestions on how to fix it?

Have you tried to upgrade the firmware of your Router, If not then you can upgrade the firmware of your Router and i think this might solve the problem.Go to website linksysbycisco.com/downloads.........insert model no of your router in serach tab......select proper version of your router........download the firmware file......save that file on desktop..
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
    Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • HH5A Rebooting every day.

Problems with HH5 have been going on too long now. Never had such a bad router (and this is second HH5 I have had). Old Billion router was up for months at a time. HH5 drops and reboots most days when in use, normally when working hard (online gaming via ethernet).

  • IPhone needs to be reactivated every day

Ive gone through some problems for the last week where I need to re-activate my phone everyday, and the re-activation takes about 2 days
The first time, I was getting NO SERVICE, or No Bars, or Full Bars, but with no AT&T Next to it. So every call I made or text I sent, failed.
I was told to get a new SIM Card, I did, had to re-activate the new card. I did..took 2 days..got a text saying my phone was OK, and it was...for 6 hours..Then I had the same problem (NO SERVICE, or No Bars, or Full Bars, but with no AT&T Next to it. So every call I made or text I sent, failed.)
Called AT&T Tech Support who we all know is quite possibly the most horrible Tech Support to sit at a computer, tell me to of course, take my battery out...gotta love that...reboot my phone...and then finally, tell me I need a new SIM...
So Yea, I bit, I got a new SIM, did the same process from above and got the same EXACT results...
Now, my phone just activated again... for how long? Well its 11:47AM EST, and the phone was activated @ 10AM...lets see how long it lasts this time....
ANYONE know whats going on? Or have the same problem?

There should be no reason that your phone should require re-activation on a daily basis or more frequent basis.
Since you continue to change the SIM card and I am not sure that all SIM cards would have the same problem and more paramount, AT&T authorizes all sorts of phones on their network and all of those phones appear to be working it is not an AT&T problem since all SIM based phones would be effected.
I would also guess that the SIM card is a dumb device that does not broadcast and I would also assume that the iPhone does in fact do the broadcast of the SIM identification. Knowing that I would say that there is a defect in the phone when it interfaces with the SIM.
Did you ever change the SIM card out prior to these problems arising or did you at one time try to insert a SIM card backwards or force the insertion?
Not having any technical details to analyze I would say that the iPhone contacts that lay against the SIM card contacts is the basis of your problem.

  • WRVS4400N needs to be rebooted every 24 hours

I have the latest firmware and I have reset to factory defaults but I still need to reboot the router every 24 hours. Can anyone help?

Useful info.. Is it possible to change the MTU size on the WRVS4400N?  I rolled back from 1.01.03 to firmware 1.00.16 to see if it makes a difference, however I don't see any MTU settings.  It's possible there are MTU settings in 1.01.03.  There is major difference in the web admin screen between the two.  1.01.03 introduces a more detailed way of seeing what's connected to the WRVS4400N as well as handling Diffserv instead of just ToS/CoS.  There are a few other things to..
Anyway, if 1.00.16 doesn't resolve my issue then I'll jump back to 1.01.03 and see if there are MTU settings.  BTW, I just disabled UPnP after reading your message.  Hopefully that helps too.
The odd ting is, I have a Buffalo Wiress N router and never had a single issue.  I got the Linksys for my "lab" environment where I'm doing a lot of VoIP testing.  The other Linksys products (PoE switches, WET200 wireless bridge, SPA-9000 and SPA phones) all work great. The router is the only one giving me odd behaviour.
    Thanks,
    -d
EDIT: It looks like I found the MTU.  It's not labeled MTU though.  On the "L2Switch" tab there is a selection for "Port Settings" and there is a default entry for "MaxFrame" of 1518.  If my hosts get locked up from the Internet again, I'll change the MaxFrame to your suggested size.  Since I just rolled back to 1.00.16 I want to see if the issue occurs before making the MaxFrame change.

  • Iphone need to restore almost every day

    Hello,
I have an IPHONE 3GS which I purchased in Italy (open for all the networks).
About a week ago in the middle of the day the iphone suddenly had “no service” sign and I couldn’t get any calls. I tried to restart but it showed the screen “iphone need to restore” – I was than in version 3.1.2 .
Since then I tried to restored it for many times and upgrade to 4.1 firmware. Most of the times I get the restore error 1013. But a few times the restore succeeded and the iphone worked for half a day until it showed the “no service” sign again and I couldn’t use it.
Can anyone please advise me what to do? There is no apple service in my country.
    Thanks,
    Amir

    Hi,
I read the message from the link you send,
On my iphone the IMEI sometimes is unknown and sometimes is 011983006774560 (not the default).
Now i cant even restore it because the i-tune display that there is no SIM card although there is.
    What can it be?
    Thanks,
    Amir

  • Express Needs to be restart every day

Our Express needs to be reset at least once a day. The green light is on and we can see the SSID but when we use our mac (or any other device) to connect to it, we get connection failed errors. Any idea what can be done to fix this?

If both devices are producing a wireless network, there is an increased chance of wireless interference between them, especiallyi if they are located in the same room. If you normally only one use one wireless network, it would make sense to turn the other one off.
