Airport (TIme Capsule) not connecting to iMAC running windows XP

I have an iMAC that runs both OS X and Windows. My router is an airport (Time Capsule)
I can wirelessly access the router when running OS X, but when I run Windows XP I can not. If I plug the cable from the cable modem directly into the iMAC when running XP, it works fine.
The airport (Time Capsule) shows up in the wireless setting with a strong signal, but when I try to connect to it; I get "Wireless router is out of range". The airport sits next to the computer.
Any suggestions.

What type of radio mode and encryption are you using?
Are you using 802.11n 5GHz mode for example?

  • AirPort Time Capsule not connecting to hardwired Internet

I'm trying to help my sister set up her brand new AirPort Time Capsule, and running into the issue of the machine not being able to establish a connection to the Internet. When connected via Ethernet to the wall outlet, her MacBook Pro connects just fine. The Ethernet cable functions properly, and there is a live Internet connection.
I have power cycled the laptop and the AirPort several times, to no avail. The biggest issue I can see is that my sister's Internet is "hardwired" throughout her apartment building, so there is no modem in her apartment. She just plugs into the wall and theoretically is good to go. She had no issues with her old Netgear router.
Is there anything we can do to solve this problem without trying to convince the management company to reset the modem for her (I assume there is one, or several, somewhere in the building)?
    Thanks!

That would most likely be the IP from the AE..
She would need to use the iOS version of the airport utility or the Mac version to actually see the WAN IP.
But you can fairly easily move the IP of the AE so it should function in a manner that is identical to the Netgear..
Go to the DHCP setup page and simply change the first pair of digits from 10.0 to 192.168 and see how it works.
I will get pictures for you from v6 utility.. shortly.
But it is important to check first what the WAN ip is.
The main Internet tab will show the WAN IP
In my case it is a private IP because I have the TC in bridge..

  • Airport time capsule not found error message

    HI,
My time capsule is blinking orange.
I open aiport, sometimes airport finds the TC, sometimes not.
    When not, get message:
    "airport time capsule not found"
When TC is found, aiport utitily shows an error with the extended network I am setting up. I press 'edit', the settings all seem good. Re-type passwords etc and update.
    The problem remains.
I have updated the firmware. An apple shop near me has reset TC using the recessed button on back of TC, and then I have re-configured at home.
BTW, TC was working fine in my old house with same laptop, so prob not simply a basic user issue...
4 other devices on my wifi network all have reliable connection, visitors' phones and laptops too, so shouln't be a wifi netowrk issue, ie network outside TC.
    Any thoughts out there?
    HOpe so!
    mana

yes, running airport 6.1, OS 10.7.5
OK.. I failed to ask enough questions.. I think your comment it all used to work threw me.
    1. You are trying to extend wireless network of what router. This will only work with another Apple router.. the way apple built it is in the family only. So please spell out what is the primary router??
If you did have it working to extend the wireless of a non-apple router in your previous house I simply don't know how.. according to Apple it isn't possible. You can use WDS.. that is slow and reduces everything to G wireless.. that is the only way.
    2. When you say in the first post..
4 other devices on my wifi network all have reliable connection, visitors' phones and laptops too, so shouln't be a wifi netowrk issue, ie network outside TC.
I presume if you turn off the TC, these devices still have wireless network because they are connected to the primary router.. not the TC.. again my bad reading.. I assumed they are connected to the TC.
So please spell out the whole network..
    Broadband modem.. type, model, make.
    Main router.. type model make
    Any other network devices.
And how was it setup in your old place and how is it different now.

  • I can't get my airport time capsule to connect to the internet

I can't get my new airport time capsule to connect to the internet. It works fine with my linksys router

We cannot help with that amount of info..
What internet type and modem do you have? Exact modem make and model may help.
Is the linksys router also the modem? You do know there is no modem in the TC?
How is the Linksys authenticating if it is plugged into the modem??
If cable did you shut down the cable modem for at least 20min to change the router.. this is always required with cable system.. often the time is longer.. one hour or overnight even.

  • How do I set up my AirPort Time Capsule to connect wirelessly to my VisionNet modem?

I'm trying to get my AirPort Time Capsule to work with my landline phone DSL company. They supply all customers with a VisionNet modem/router. My problem is getting the Capsule to work wirelessly with the VisionNet modem. I want to put the Capsule on the other end of the house so I have internet connectivity all around my house. I have no idea how to do this. Is there anyone out there who is tech savvy enough to help me? Your help and response will be truly appreciated.

It will not work.. Apple routers cannot wirelessly extend other brands..
You must plug the TC into the modem router with ethernet.. and put it in bridge mode. You can then get another apple router, like an express or extreme (or even another TC) to extend its wireless.
This is fairly typical btw if you are thinking apple is being exclusivist.. well they are but the fact is wireless repeater (WDS is normal term), is not a standard and so every company does what is right in their own eyes.
WDS is not cross platform.. you always need to stick to the same brands.. or use universal wireless repeaters. But these are not recommended as they are generally unreliable and have other impacts on the network.
Run ethernet or use EOP (homeplug) adapters to connect the TC to the VisionNet modem.

  • Can I use Time Capsule (2T) with an imac running 10.5.8?

Today I purchased TC, to use as my backup drive, and specifically asked the store (PeachMac) if TC would work with my antiquated imac 10.5.8.  They said yes.   I get home and proceed to set it up.  I plugged my DSL router into the Ethernet LAN, and plugged in the TC... and Airport Utility tells me...
"A newer version of AirPort Utility is required.  This version of AirPort Utility doesn't support this AirPort wireless device and might improperly configure the device if you continue to use it. Check www.apple.com/support/airport for the latest version of AirPort Utility."
I can't upgrade my imac to Lion, without losing all my Adobe products. (they're old too, but they work for what i need them for and I'm not ready to jump into the Adobe Cloud just yet.)
The Airport Utility that is on my machine is 5.6.1.  From looking at the apple.com/support site, I need 5.5.3 to run it on my imac.  http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1390
if I hit download, it says... sorry, not found.  Anyone know what I need to do?

Unfortunately, you received incorrect information from the store, when they could have taken another 30 seconds to pull up the system requirements for the new Time Capsule:
    http://www.apple.com/airport-time-capsule/specs/
If you have an iPhone, iPad, etc you may be able to set up the Time Capsule with that device.
Otherwise, you will likely want to have a conversation with the store and show them the link and information above.

  • Time Capsule not connected to Ethernet?

    Hello,
I walked in to my office two days ago and the amber light was blinking with an occasional green (on my Time Capsule).
The reported error was that the ethernet was not connected. It was. I ultimately disconnected the ethernet cable from my Time Capsule and connected directly to my iMac. After some configuring issues I was on line. Did what I needed to do and shut down.
Next day  I decided to try powering down the Time Capsule and re-connected the Ethernet cable. Everything worked fine just like it has for well over a year now.
I figured maybe the cleaning crew bumped the power and everything was fine.
    No dice.
Came in this morning and the Time Capsule is blinking amber again (with an occasional green) same issue. "no ethernet connected."
Now I am connected directly to the IMac and asking for help.
    Please.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    P

On our TC, the TC shows a green light even when it refuses our computer/device wireless connections and says the password is invalid.  However, I left the house for three hours and am now on my laptop and it is apparently working normally.  I plan to watch it very closely for the next week and see what happens.
I have read on here (and other Mac-centric review sites) that TC's are very unreliable, have slower than average wireless connections (and short ranges in apartments, especially through walls/several rooms), and fail within 18 months -- all of which is considered "normal" lifespan by Apple (as confirmed by the Apple employees at the San Diego Store in Fashion Valley).
I don't plan on purchasing another TC, and likely not even an Airport extreme.  I will look at buying a more reliable wireless router with stronger (farther) connections and connection ranges. I love apple products and have used them to the exclusion of others for over 15 years, but this is really annoying (and my friends have much better wireless networks!).

  • Time Capsule Not connecting to internet

Hello. So recently I received a new iMac for Christmas and knowing that my wireless network is setup with MAC address filtering, I used my working laptop to connect to both the Airport Extreme and Time Capsule to add the iMac to the network. That worked and my iMac has been able to connect to the network no problem.
Let me explain what my network setup is before I tell about the problem:
I have the latest generation Airport Extreme (Dual Band II) and a first generation Time Capsule (1TB).
The Airport Extreme is connected to the internet by cable modem and the Airport is the main router sharing a single IP address.
I connected the Time Capsule to the Airport Extreme through Ethernet and set it up automatically with Airport Utility to extend over ethernet.
Now up untill now, I had no problems but since I got my iMac, I haven't been able to ever get a list of the Airport devices connected to the network, while connected to the Time Capsule, however, when connected to the Airport Extreme 5GHz network, I'm having no problems.
And today, the Time Capsule wouldn't connect to the internet over wifi, and all other devices wouldn't either. Of course, I tried to connect to the base station, but Airport Utility wouldn't display any devices connected. This happened with my MacBook as well.
Since connecting to the 5GHz network from the Airport Extreme, I have no problems with internet or Airport Utility. After a while though, the Time Capsule connected to the internet again.
Would someone shed some light on the situation?

I normally use the manual setup mode so I'm not sure what exactly is the end-state when choosing to extend a wireless network with the Time Capsule (TC) connected to the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) by Ethernet.
I am guessing that the AirPort Utility configured the TC as a bridge to allow the AEBSn to still provide both NAT & DHCP services for all wired or wireless clients connected to either router.
Let's start by double-checking some settings on your TC. Please provide the following TC settings from the AirPort Utility:
AirPort Utility > Select the TC > Manual Setup > Time Capsule > Wireless
    o Wireless Mode = ?
o Allow this network to be extended = checked or unchecked?
    o Radio Mode = ?
    o Radio Channel Selection = ?
    Time Capsule > Access Control
    o MAC Address Access Control = ?
    Internet > Internet Connection
    o Connect Using = ?
    o Connection Sharing = ?
    Internet > TCP/IP
    o Configure IPv4 = ?

  • Airport Time Capsule not found

    Hi,
I'm tying to setup Time Machine backup on a new Macbook Pro (well, the laptop is Mid 2010 but I got it new ;-) ).
I have an existing Airport Time Capsule which I already use for another Mac as a backup device which is working fine.
In Time Machine setup I can't select the Time Capsule volume, neither can I see it in the Airport Utility although I am actully connected over WLAN to this Airport TC.I can use Airport Utility just fine on my other Mac and also on iPad without problem.
MacBook is running 10.8.4, Airport Utility is 6.3.1 TC has newest firmware as well.
    Any hints?
    Regards
    Chris

Manually mount the hard disk of the TC.
In Finder, use the top menu.. Go, Connect to server.
AFP://TCname or TCIPaddress eg AFP://10.0.1.1 if the TC is at default.. you obviously substitute the actual name.. and that is network name.. not as it appears but as apple reads it.. much easier therefore to use names that already conform.. so short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
Reset TM and see if you can find the hard disk you now have mounted.
    See A4 here. http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html

  • Time Capsule drops connection to iMac

I've recently got a late 2009 iMac 21.5" and am having issues using it with my Time Capsule. Intermittently the iMac loses connection, it appears to still be connected the the TC but it can't communicate. I've set a ping going to 10.0.1.1 in the Terminal app with no reply and then turn airport off and back on again and hey presto it starts receiving a reply. I've looked at interference, change channel on my TC, no difference. So I ran an ethernet cable into a LAN port on the TC and no it works fine, two days with no drop outs. I don't know what to try next any ideas?

I think I have the same issue.
My iMac is connected to the TimeCapsule via ethernet (though I do have wifi running to synch a few apps with iphone).
My problem is that I have my iPhoto library file on the TimeCapsule so that it can be accessed by other family members.  Almost invariably, when I plug in my iPhone, iPhoto pops up and asks which library to use even though I have indicated that the iphoto library on the TimeCapsule is to be the default.
So, in essence, I don't have to log back in, only re-connect almost always which is a pain.
    Any ideas appreciated!

  • Help! Time Capsule not connected to the Internet

    Hi everyone!
I have this problem, and hope someone can help me.
In my house I have this network
Modem/Router Netgear DGN2200 connected via ethernet to Airport Express.
Airport Express is set to create a wireless network, bridge mode.
In the house I also have a Time Capsule set to extend the wireless network, bridge mode.
Time Capsule is connected via ethernet to my TV decoder to have extra services through the Internet.
Ok. All worked fine until a couple of days ago.
Then, I didn't change anything but Time Capsule (and so the TV decoder) seems to have no acces to the Internet anymore.
But Time Capsule is still available on the local network, so I can access to it, make backups and so on.
    What should I do?!
Thanks for your help and sorry for my bad English.
    Matteo

Did you try a simple reboot of the network devices.. turn off all the network stuff..
    Restart in correct order..
    1. Modem.. wait 2 min.
    2. Express.. wait 2min.
    3. TC.. wait 2min.
Then try the TV.. if it doesn't work reset both the express and TC to factory.. and redo the setup.. you had them setup correctly but please use SMB names.. since the TV will not talk apple.. SMB names are short.. 2-20 characters.. no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
so for example the name of the Express.. AEx Name of the TC.. TC1
    Name for wireless. Aex24ghz
Use a different name for 5ghz if your Express is a dual band latest model. Aex5ghz
Use fixed channel so that it is locked.. eg. 2.4ghz on channel 11 5ghz on channel 40.
The TC will follow the wireless exactly.
    See how you go.

  • Airport Time capsule not found on mac when using AirPort Utility

I just purchased an AirPort Time Capsule to back up my files from my Mac.  I have been able to set up the wireless portion, but when trying to access the backup portion through TimeMachine I cannot select my base.  I am able to see it on my iPhone, but not on Mac.  I have updated everything.  Is this a known problem with the transition to Yosemite?  Any suggestions?

Dead spot on.. Yosemite is pain plus..
I recommend you start over in your TC setup..
    Factory reset universal
Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.
    Setup the TC again.
ie Start from a factory reset. No files are lost on the hard disk doing this.
Then redo the setup from the computer with Yosemite.
    1. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics.
eg TCgen5 and TCwifi for basestation and wireless respectively.
Even better if the issue is more wireless use TC24ghz and TC5ghz with fixed channels as this also seems to help stop the nonsense. But this can be tried in the second round.
    2. Use all passwords that also comply but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
    3. Ensure the TC always takes the same IP address.. you will need to do this on the main router using dhcp reservation.. or a bit more complex setup using static IP in the TC. But this is important.. having IP drift all over the place when Yosemite cannot remember its own name for 5 min after a reboot makes for poor networking. If the TC is main router it will not be an issue.
    4. Check your share name on the computer is not changing.. make sure it also complies with the above.. short no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. but this change will mess up your TM backup.. so be prepared to do a new full backup. Sorry.. keep this one for second round if you want to avoid a new backup.
    5. Mount the TC disk in the computer manually.
In Finder, Go, Connect to server from the top menu,
Type in SMB://192.168.0.254 (or whatever the TC ip is which you have now made static. As a router by default it is 10.0.1.1 and I encourage people to stick with that unless you know what you are doing).
You can use name.. SMB://TCgen5.local where you replace TCgen5 with your TC name.. local is the default domain of the TC and doesn't change.
However names are not so easy as IP address.. nor as reliable. At least not in Yosemite they aren't. The domain can also be an issue if you are not plugged or wireless directly to the TC.
    6. Make sure IPv6 is set to link-local only in the computer. For example wireless open the network preferences, wireless and advanced / TCP/IP.. and fix the IPv6. to link-local only.
There is a lot more jiggery pokery you can try but the above is a good start.. if you find it still unreliable.. don't be surprised.
You might need to do some more work on the laptop itself. eg Reset the PRAM.. has helped some people. Clean install of the OS is also helpful if you upgrade installed.
    Tell us how you go.

  • HT3728 time capsule not connected (not seen in AirPort Utility)

I have recently moved and my Time Capsule does not appear on AirPort Utility just has a flashed amber light. I've tried a factory reset as I have recent upgraded to a second hand MacBook Pro. Some threads suggest a full backup and reinstall of OSx will do the trick but this seems extreme... any other ideas?

    Do this in full isolation..
Plug a LAN port of TC into the MBP by ethernet.. I hope yours has an ethernet port.
Turn off wireless in the MBP.. disconnect anything else from the TC.
Now see if the airport utility can find it.. if nothing.. then do a factory reset of the TC..
ie.. hold in reset before you power on the TC.. keep holding in reset for 10sec after the TC powers on.. three arms or a friend helps if you don't have 3 arms. Hold in reset until the front led flashes rapidly. Then release.
Airport utility will now be able to find the TC..
Set it up as you like.. do everything.. wireless, TC name.. security.. etc. update the TC.. then return to the network.
NOTE.. no reset on the TC will do anything to data on the TC hard disk ..
You certainly do not have to wipe the laptop.. but if you have continuing wireless issues.. a clean install might be the only way to fix it.. upgrade installs are still bad news.

  • Time Capsule not connecting to wireless network

Just bought shiny new iMac with shiny new Time Capsule (500G) and i'm ready to launch the whole lot out the window!!!
Despite my very best efforts i'm unable to connect my TC to my wireless network. Every time I use Airport Utility the TC recognises the wireless network, proceeds to change the settings normally, the TC then restarts and the bloody amber light flashes and the iMac cannot find the TC. I then have to reset the TC so the iMac can find it and the whole process starts all over again. I apologise if this topic has come up before but i'm at my wits end!!

Well, things in Paris, France a wee bit brighter but not much.
I managed initially to use TC via Ethernet connection (for my initial Mac system safeguard) as TC did not recognise or was not recognised by my Airport WiFi home network.
Now, after various attempts and properly configuring TC to "join" my existing network all lights are green and config seems "A" OK.
On the hour, wirelessly, TC starts doing its bit showing: under the Time Machine box's "Backing up" sub title: "Preparing" with a running blue/white bar..
A couple of hours later TC system stops advising me there was a "wireless connection interruption".
This has been going on for a few days now and, as far as I know, never has my Orange's LiveBox WiFi, ADSL, Router Modem suffered any interruption of service.
    What to do or change??

  • AirPort Extreme and AirPort Time Capsule not working

So heres the situation: I have 1 airport extreme in the house and another in the office separate from the house. The cable modem connects to the aiport express in the house through ehternet. An ethernet chord goes from the Aiport Extreme from in the house to the office in the back yard.
Decided to update my airport extremes with the new tall ones. Bought the normal one for the house and got the Airport Extreme Time capsule for the office.
But nothing works. Reseted the device, unpluged the modems power and cables and still nothing ... just blinks yellow
I feel like the NEW Aiport Extremes are not talking to the modem ... theres some diconnection between the airports and the modem.
So there both sitting on my desk until i can figure out what the problem is.
The modem is provided from Time Warner, Los Angeles area. Its maybe 1.5 to 2 years old
Any thoughts or suggestions would be much apprecaited, thanks!

The cable modem remembers your old AirPort Extreme and it will not associate with the new AirPort Extreme until it....the modem....is completely reset to the point where it has forgotten your old AirPort Extreme.
Power off the modem completely by pulling the power plug from the back of the device
Leave it off at least 30 minutes. longer will not hurt at all.
Power up the new AirPort Extreme for a few minutes
Hold in the reset button on the Extreme firmly for 10 seconds and release
Allow a full minute for the AirPort Extreme to restart
Now power off the AirPort Extreme
After the modem power down period is done, connect an Ethernet cable from the modem to the  WAN "O" Port on the AirPort Extreme
Power up the modem and let it run for 10 minutes by itself
Power up the AirPort Extreme and let it run a few minutes
Now try to set up the AirPort Extreme using AirPort Utility
Post back on your progress and we will get the new Time Capsule set up next.
