Airport to close to notebook then it hickups

I use my Airport Express to listen to Itunes using my stereo.
The airport is connected to my wireless system, and works fine as long my notebook is at least 50 cm away from the Airport.
The Airport, connected to my stereo, is on a shelf in a cabinet, and normally the notebook is on the shelf above that.
When I use the system while working with the laptop at the table it works great. But when I place the notebook back on it place (appr. 25 cm away from the Airport) it starts with stopping every 8-10 seconds for a second or 2. Hickups in the system, and I don't know why. The connection is fine, but why does it do this when the signal gets to close????

A guess would be that the laptop is producing some digital noise or interference that affects the AirPort Express. Other electronic devices can affect wireless devices in a similar way. There's no solution other than to keep them separated.

When I close Firefox and then come back to it later a box comes up that says it's already running. It says to close Firefox first but when I hit close nothing happens and the box comes up again. I have to shut down my computer and restart to get into Firefox again. If I can't get this fixed I will start using someone else. Someone told me a way to close Firefox but I forgot what they said.

    Hello Brian.
You don't need to restart your computer to open Firefox again: you just need to close it manually through your application manager (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC in Processes tab). Anyway, hopefully this support article is what you need:
    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox+hangs
What's probably happening is that you may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] and select ''Disable all add-ons''. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme. You can troubleshoot plugins the same way.
If you want support for one of your add-ons, you'll need to contact its author.

  • Is there anyway to get an App Tab to stay when I close the program then reopen it?...they always disappear when I open a new window etc.

Is there anyway to get an App Tab to stay when I close the program then reopen it?...they always disappear when I open a new window etc.
And I thought the whole point of an App Tab was to always have those tabs there no matter what window is open all the time period.
It's a minor complaint but I would really appreciate the option to permanently have them there.

I thought that app tabs would be more persistent, like pinning programs to the taskbar in Windows, but this is not the case.
Instead, once you close a Firefox window, all its tabs and app tabs are lost.
Essentially, this means that the close button in the upper-left corner of a Firefox window is now a "kill all open tabs and loose all App Tabs without warning++ " button. That is not cool.
I realize that "Firefox > Quit Firefox" behaves as intended, but many people use the more obvious red close button instead of the menu to close windows on a Mac. And it is easy to forget that the red button is now also an app-tab-death button. I've lost my app tabs many times to this issue. It is an unforgiving user interface decision which hampers the usability of app tabs. Why should I go through the extra clicks of setting up app tabs if I can loose them so easily?
Ideally, App Tabs could be saved separately from the currently open windows (perhaps create an option to save then to a special Tab Group that opens on startup?). App tabs would be exceedingly useful to me if they weren't so easy to loose.
On that note, saving Tab Groups would also be a useful functionality.
++ You will get a "closing multiple tabs" warning if you have only one window open, and that one window has multiple non-app tabs open, and you have enabled the warning in Preferences. But this too unreliable to help prevent the loss of app tabs.

i have an airport extreme attached to cable, then one airport express to extend the range. when i try to add an additional airport express to extend range in another area of house, can't get it to work. utility says it has found a new base station and asks if i want to use it. if i click yes, then the old setup is disabled.

Ok, thanks for clarifying which models you have. Please see the following Apple Support article on how to configure these older base stations for a Wireless Distribution System (WDS).

Downgrade to an older nightly that works for a week or so, then test again to see if the bug's still there. In the mean time, report the bug on Bugzilla if it hasn't already been. There's really nothing you can do about bugs in nightlies.
(A similar sort of bug that triggered 60 seconds after opening, every time, was what got me out of using nightlies as my main browser.)

  • When you close Safari and then Reopen it, Shouldn't the Websites/Windows Reopen?

At least thats what I thought was one of the new things with Lion.
If you close Safari, and then reopen it, the windows you left open are supposed to re-open.  But thats not happening for me most of the time.  If there are tabs, the tabs still say the name of the websites but the pages themselves are blank.  Other windows are just blank.  Ive tried calling Tech Support in the past and never got a satisfactory response.
It keeps getting frustrating because I have to manually retype all the URLs to get the pages back.

I mean quitting Safari with the windows open- not closing the windows.
I have plenty of bookmarks but dont want to bookmark pages that Im just currently using - and dont necessarily want to go back to all the time.
I just would like Safari and Lion to work the way its supposed to

  • Slowness only after switching networks until airport is shut off and then..

Hello. I am asking this for a friend. I did do a search but did not come up with much. When she opens Safari (or Firefox) it is extremely slow at loading pages. If she shuts off the airport utility, waits a second then turns airport back on it seems to work just fine. Seems to happen after she moves to another network, but all of the networks that she moves to are her "known" networks.
    Any Ideas???
    Thanks everyone.

    Hi
Did the person at the Apple store test her Airport card?
OpenDNS is an organization providing server codes that work in addition to those supplied by the IP. This helps speed up the flow of information to the computer. Also, provide protection against fraudulent sites (phishing).
Creating a new location rather than using the "automatic" function makes Safari more specific when accessing web sites. By contrast, the Automatic function searches for available networks, so theoretically there is an inherent lag in the process. I have a specific location set up for my Home. When traveling I switch back to Automatic.
You create a separate location by clicking on the Location drop down menu in the System Preferences>Network panel and selecting "edit". When the location panel appears, click on the + button to add a new one to the list. The gear icon on the panel allows you to duplicate or rename a location.
Here's how to enter the DNS codes in Leopard:
In the Network panel select your connection, then select "advanced". In the DNS panel add these codes:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
In the Network panel, if Airport is not at the top of the list, click on the "gear icon" at the left bottom. Select "set service order". When the help box opens drag Airport to the top of the list. Select "apply" when complete.
    Restart Safari.

  • Everytime I close Firefox and then try to reopen it, it says that I am unable to do so as Firefox is already running (even though it's closed) and I have to restart my laptop all the time.

For about a week now when I have closed Firefox down then I try to reopen it the screen message states that Firefox is already running and I have to restart my laptop every time. This is becoming very frustrating and time-consuming.

I have the same problem on my notebook but I don't restart. Just do the control, alt, delete and bring up your task manager. Then scroll down to Firefox, end process and close. Now you should be able to restart FF. Not a fix but better than having to restart your laptop.

  • When I close Firefox and then try to open it, it says it is already running and I have to close it which I can't do. The only way to open it is to first restart my computer which is a pain. If I can't fix this I will use an other brouser!

I am not sure what more I can tell you. I close firefox. So when I click on the icon it should allow me to open it again but I get a message that says it is already running. Either close it out which I can't do since I already did that or restart the computer.

Try holding control, alt and delete down in succession and then a dialogue box will appear with windows task manager. Once open click on the Processes Tab and look for firefox.exe. Highlight this and then click end process. It should come up with a warning but just click Yes. This should then close firefox and allow you to reopen it from your desktop without shutting down your computer. Hope this helps.

  • I open a new tab and nothing works until I click anywhere, get redirected to a different tab, close that one, then I can follow links on tab I wanted to open.

When I open a new tab, for instance if I search on a topic and there are several sites that seem promising, I will open them in new tabs. I can scroll over the links or text on the new tab and the cursor doesn't react. The new tab has fully loaded but the cursor will not recognize text or links. Before anything will work first I have to left-click anywhere on the page. I get redirected to a new tab, invariably a trusted offer or survey. When I close that other tab, then the first tab acts normal. I scroll over it and the cursor recognizes the text and the links.
