Airport to Sony TV?

Trying to connect a Sony TV via Airport. Is this possible?

What is it you're trying to do? You cannot connect a TV to an Airport Express for anything other than audio or network service. You cannot use an Airport Express to stream video to your TV, if that's what you want to do. You'd need an Apple TV for that.
You'll need to clarify what you wish to accomplish before anyone can provide anything much in the way of additional assistance.
Regards.

  • How to connect a Sony Bravia TV to the internet through your Airport network

Since it took me a lot of time to figure out how to connect my Sony Bravia TV to the internet through my Airport network, I better share how to do it. Hopefully saving others a lot of time.
My 32EX600 Sony Bravia TV is Ethernet connected to my Mac Mini, which is part of my Airport network, together with another Mac, an Airport Extreme Base Station and an ADSL modem/router. Moreover, the Mac Mini is connected to the TV by HDMI.
Whatever I tried in the TV’s Wired Network Set-up (Auto, or Manual with manual IP, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and DNS IPs), I couldn’t get it right. Cable Connection and Local Access were mostly OK, Internet Access always Failed.
The solution lies in the Sharing panel of the System Preferences of the Mac Mini. In the Internet Sharing item of that panel, you should choose to “share your internet connection from WiFi to computers (the TV in this case) using Ethernet“, and NOT (as I had chosen before and seemed so obvious) “share your internet connection from Airport to computers using Ethernet“. After that change, the Bravia Network Set-up, using the Wired and Auto options, flawlessly connected to the internet. No expensive (Sony) WiFi USB dongle needed.

I have now had a detailed reply from Sony Europe and the way to do this is to:
    1.       Press Home on the TV Setup
    2.       Use the right and left arrow to select Setting.
    3.       Use the up and down to select Network, press Enter.
    4.       Select Network Setup.
    5.       Select Wireless setup.
    6.       Select Scan
    7.       Select your network
    8.       A new screen will appear asking for entering the security key.
    9.       Enter your WPA2 key.
    10.   Select Enter.
    11.   It will take you back to the same screen asking for entering the
    security key.
    12.   Press the right arrow.
    13.   Select Auto.
    14.   Press the right arrow.
    15.   Select Save and connect.
These instructions are not the same as shown on the TV but they worked fine for me so they may help others with a similar problem.

  • Installed airport 3 computers work fine, my old sony laptop is asking for network wep key or wpa key. I tried wpa2 but that won't work and my password

I Installed AirPort Extreme 3 computers work fine.  I am trying to use my old sony laptop. It is asking for a network key. I entered wpa2. I also tried my password. What should I do?

Which wireless security type did you configure your AirPort Extreme with? You basically have two choices: WPA Personal or WPA2 Personal. There are actually others, but these are the most common in use today.
What version of Windows is the Sony laptop running and which service pack level is it at? Do you know what wireless security types that this laptop's wireless can support?

  • How to connect my sony blue ray play to wifi via my airport utility?

how to connect my sony blue ray play to wifi via my airport utility?

The airport utility has nothing whatever to do with the sony bluray player.
The airport utility is to setup wireless in the airport.. once you setup wireless then you use the sony setup for wireless in the player as per its manual.
Please do keep the wireless names short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
As well as pure alphanumeric passwords if you want to do this successfully.

  • I am unable to get Airport Extreme WiFi to work with Windows 8 Sony Laptop

My Airport Extreme WiFi works with my Mac Book Pro, iphones, ipad and DVR's, but will not work WiFi with my Sony VAIO laptop running Windows 8.  Although it does work with the laptop using a ethernet cable.  Has anyone else had this issue and can you please tell me how to resolve the problem?

Windows can have issues with the wireless name.
Make sure the name conforms to windows standard.
    Short, 2-20 characters
    No spaces,
    Pure alphanumeric.
eg AEwifi is a good wireless name.
Fred Blog's Airport Extreme Wireless87AD34 is a really bad name.
Test also by removing the security and just see if you can connect if the short name doesn't help.
WPA2 Personal is really the only security worthy of the name and the password should be mix of upper and lower case plus numbers.. keep it pure alphanumeric also.
Set fixed wireless channels at least for 2.4ghz may help, depending on your location geo standards wise.
Test 11, 6, 1 in that order. With no security briefly. And a short name. (different name on the two bands is also a good idea).
Then wireless is not compatible.. you should download another driver for whatever wireless card the Sony uses.. intel most likely and they have a reputation as lousy. So download latest and a few prior to that as well.

  • I have a Sony Bravia KDL46W905 TV but I can't get it to connect the Airport Extreme router

My Sony Bravia KDL46W905 TV won't connect to my Airport Extreme router and the internet. It recognises and picks up my home wireless network though and I'm inputting the correct password but still won't connect. The router is set to WPA2 Personal.
    Anyone any ideas?

While most devices should connect using WPA2 Personal, please temporarily test using no security to see if the Sony TV will connect that way.
If it will, then try the more compatible setting of WPA/WPA2 Personal on the AirPort Extreme and test that way.
However, if the TV will not connect using no wireless security.....then it is a no brainer to conclude that the TV will never connect with security enabled....so more troublehooting is going to be required.
In that case, make sure that the name of your wireless network......
Does not exceed 20 characters, fewer would be better
Does not contain any special characters like an apostrophe, asterisk, dollar sign, etc
Does not have any blank spaces
For example, if the current name of your wireless network is something like.....
    rpepler's wireless network
Change that to read something like.....
    rpeplerwireless
Same rules for the wireless network password

  • Best cable to use to connect an Airport Express to a Sony DE 1075?

Hi, Does anyone have suggestions on the best kind of cable (RCA etc) to use to connect an Airport Express to a Sony DE 1075 receiver (the receiver was purchased about 10 years ago)...I have the receiver hooked up to a Bose Acoutimass 15 sound system. Thanks,

If you plan to use the AUX input on the Sony receiver, then you will need a cable that consists of a 3.5 mm Stereo Mini plug on one end and 2 RCA plugs on the other.
The RCA plugs are almost always color coded red and white to designate the left (white) and right (red) channel.
Any electronics superstore will have what you need, as will the Radio Shack.
If you are still not sure what you need, take a picture of the back panel of the Sony receiver using your camera phone and take the AirPort Express with you to the store.

  • I have the older rounded airport and want to connect it to a Sony Blu-Ray via a LAN cable. Is that possible?

I have the older rounded airport and would like to connect it to a Sony blu-ray player via a LAN. Any thoughts?

I assume that your Sony Blu-ray player is network-ready and has an Ethernet port ... correct? If so, there shouldn't be any reason why it couldn't be connected to the LAN (opposing arrows) port on the 802.11g AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) to gain network/Internet access.

  • Will sony s-air sw10ti work with airport extreme?

    Hi There,
I have the Sony S-Air SW10 Ti which has a great sound but the Aerial on it for DAB Radio is rubbish, it does have a docking station which also sounds good but no other connection parts. Would this perhaps work with " Airport or Aiport Express/Extreme" ?

Thanks - I am glad that you explained your situation a liitle more - although there is no direct way to connect to the wi-fi of the Sony - the Airport Express (not the Extreme) has an audio out jack that can be connected to any system - this would be an indirect way of using wi-fi with your Sony - see this link - http://www.apple.com/airportexpress/ - you could also incorporate Apple TV into your setup - see this link - http://www.apple.com/appletv/ - but as you can see, both of these choices involve AirPlay and Itunes which may limit your options - and because they are beyond the scope of this discussion group, I would suggest that you re-word your questions and ask them in the appropriate disccusion group in this forum - I hope that this clarifies things somewhat.
