Airport turns off, won't come back w/o restart

My Airport card has been driving me crazy since approximately late May. It turns off at will, and I've searched the net and tried a host of fixes -- resetting RAM and whatnot (holding down various button at restart), deleting and adding a new location in network prefs, etc etc -- but nothing has worked. I'm afraid (and becoming increasingly convinced) that it is a hardware issue. Things are fine when I leave my MBP on the desk. But as soon as I try to move it, or put it in my lap, the Airport turns off (icon at upper right goes "empty"). And it won't turn back on unless I restart. This happens every time I move it, though if I'm reeeally careful and hold it at the front/sides, it might make it to its new location...for a bit. Then, if I move it around too much...gone.
I'm out of warranty and don't have Applecare, so if this is purely hardware related, I might be SOL...or have to do some surgery myself. But if anyone has any advice, it would be much appreciated. Like I said, I've tried resetting everything at startup, erasing and adding a new location in network prefs...nothing worked at all.
(Also worth nothing, back in Nov 08, I had a problem with the board, which incidentally was also interfering with the Airport a bit....but it was mostly just causing system failure. Sent it in via an Apple Store, and when it came back, the board issue/kernel panics/etc were gone, but I had a HD hum....as in, faint clicking noise coming from the right upper area. Stops when I hold down the P, [, or ] keys, or those in the vicinity. Unfortunately, my warranty ran out shortly after, and I couldn't afford to lose my comp for a couple of weeks in there. *****. Now here I am.)

try a security wipe, doubt it will work but worth a try
backup device
options- security options- general settings
menu button- wipe handheld
wait till you BB reboots adn test it again without restoring your backup
if that doesnt work, try this
make sure you have DTM 4.7 or 5.0 installed and closed
plug in BB
click on start- run and type
cmd
press enter, then type
cd c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
press enter, then type
loader.exe /resettofactory
press enter
wait till you BB reboots adn test it again without restoring your backup.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable

Usually the HDD is the frist place to look.  Use the original install disk and start up the MBP with the C key down.  Go through the installation process until you see on the display a menu bar on top.
    Click on UTILITIES.
From the drop down menu select Disk Utility.
Open Disk Utility>First Aid and run Verify and Repair.
    What are the results?

  • My iphone 4 just turned off-won't go back on or charge

My iphone 4 16GB simply turned off while in my pocket this morning and now it will not turn back on.  It will not recognize or respond to the charger when I plug it in either.  I have had it 1.5 years with no problems.  I updated the system when the new update came out and haven't had any problems.  HELP!!!

Mine just did the same thing a little bit ago.  Exactly what did you do and did you loose any data/photos?  We were on the way home from vacation and I have my vacation photos on the phone.

  • Iphone 4 just turned off and wont come back on

Was on the phone in my car on the handsfree, then all of a sudden got disconnected. looked at my iphone 4 and it switched off. got home and tried charging it up and nothing happened, then tried plugging it into my pc to do a restore or see if i get any life and nothing !
got no phone now and because you have to have a micro sim you have to de activate your regular size sim. so now got no sim to put into a normal phone.
please help someone ! aaaaahhhh !!

    Hey guys,
I was with my friend who had the same problem with his iPhone 4 today and as I was researching the problem I tried all the tricks and nothing seemed to work.
Until I came across some info that suggested the problem was with a proximity sensor.
Basically his phone was on(when someone called it would ring on their end instead of going straight to voicemail), but not respond tto touch or anything.
So I held the power button and slid my finger across the screen as if to "switch" it off even though the screen was blank and waited before holding the button again to turn it back on.
Once I did this it booted back up as if nothing happened.
Hope this is the same problem, good luck.

  • What do i need to do because my iphone updated but turned off and want come back on

    I really need help

Try a reset. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone should reboot. This could take up to 30 seconds of holding the buttons together. If you are not sure how well the device is charged, before you attempt the reset, plug the device in for about 20 minutes and keep it connected to the charger when you attempt the reset.

  • MacBook Pro 2012. Replaced hard drive yesterday by apple. Went home working and now it turns off and won't come back on till I plug it in... Help!

Have had a ton of issues with my Mac. Went to the apple store in march and they said my processor could be going bad and they basically did nothing. Yesterday I was using my computer put it to sleep. 10 minutes later I opened it up and it completely crashed. Drove 2 hours to get to apple because I am away at school and need my computer for finals. They replaced my hard drive and it was working perfectly fine till today. Now it turns on and works and then shuts off and it won't come back on till I plug it in. It's completely charged and I need it for my classes. I have apple care but I can't keep driving back to apple every day. I have a apple appointment tomorrow but this is ridiculous. Has anyone had any of these issues? What's it going to take for them to replace my computer I can't even live a day without it right now. And by the way. I could not even get any of my data off my old hard drive. So basically nothing is on this computer right now.

Let them know how this is inconveniencing you.  For a replacement, I believe Apples general rule of thumb is if it comes in for the 3rd time for the same issue they will replace it, but it may vary by store.  It cant hurt to ask for a replacement.

  • My one day old MacBook pro just turned off and it won't come back on either through mains or battery power

My one day old MacBook pro just turned off and it won't come back on either through mains or battery power it's as if the unit is completely dead. Even with the mains plugged in there is no green or orange light to say its charging or full charged. The battery was fully charged anyway seconds before the screen went off.

When you say no green or orange light are you refering to the little led on the magsafe connector?  That could mean either the charger/cable are bad or the circuitry in the MBP is faulty.  Since this is a brand new MBP best bet is to take it back to an Apple Retail store and have the genius bar staff take a look.  They can determine if it needs to be reparired or replaced.

  • 15-r018dx display turns off and won't come back on

I have a HP 15-R018DX laptop that I just bought and when I close the display, it turns the display off and won't come back on when I flip it open again.  I've already changed the Power Options so that the "what happens when you close the display" options are all set to "nothing happens".  Despite that, each time I close the display and open it again, the display goes blank and stays blank, though the status LEDs on the left side tell me that the compuer is still on and not hibernated, etc.
The only way to return the display to normal is to push the power button (I have it set to hibernate when I push the power button) and then turn it back on again after it hibernates.  Then, the display is illuminated again like normal.  No amount of touching the touchpad, it's buttons, or keyboard keys will return the display to normal once it turns off after the lid is closed and re-opened.  Any ideas on what's happening and how to make the display turn on when opening the display again? Thanks in advance!

I was also facing the same probs..
bt when i reinstalled OS, nw alomost every part s ok except the brightness part..
The option to adjust brightness seems unavailable..

  • Airport turns off by itself and won't turn on back again!!!

hey there, i am currently facing an issue with the airport as by it is turnning off by itself and i cant turn it back on .. i have to restart !!!
sometimes when i turn on my mac like just now happened it is off and can;t be turned on.
please if anyone can help i would really appreciate it
    thank you very much

Hey, in case you haven't been able to find a solution to your original problem with airport turning off, i seem to have found the solution for my MacBook Pro. I called Apple Care and they had me to shut down my computer. Then, while holding down the four keys: command, option, R and P, push the power button to turn on the computer. Do not let up on the four keys until the start up chime has sounded twice. Then let up on the four keys and the OS will boot up as usual. They said what that does is reset your "sleep" parameters on your computer. This seemed to have solved my problem.

  • I was updating my phone and it turned off and won't come back on

I was trying to update my iphone 5s yesterday and it shut off and now it won't come back on. I've had it plugged in all night and have tried holding the home and sleep button but nothing works

Try holding the home and sleep buttons for as long as a minute.  Try it a few times.
Are you sure it's plugged into a good outlet using a good charger and cable?
Else, take it in to Apple and let them look at it... you have a 1 year warranty.

  • After upgrading to mavericks my mac shut off and won't come back on

I upgraded to Mavericks and my 2013 macbook pro shut off and won't come back on.  When I push the start button I can hear the chime and then my sleep light blinks really fast and then shuts off completely.  All I get is a white screen with the loading circle just going around and around.  I tried resetting the pram but that didn't work.  Any ideas?

Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list.  Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
    Alternatively, see:
