Airport Update question

I have Airport ver. 9.52 on my iBook.
When I check for updates it says that there is an update available called:
*Airport Extreme Driver Update 2005-001* (Version 1.0)
+"This update resolves AirPort compatibility issues with certain third party 802.11 cards and access points for Mac OS X v10.3.3 through 10.3.9"+
Should I download and install this update?
Are Airport and Airport Extreme different things?

You can download and install this update, but it will add not functionality to your computer. It is designed for Airport Extreme routers which might be managed by your computer. It will cause no harm to download and install, and you won't have to view the reminders.

  • Airport Update Problems-Where's Apple?

I am not here to flame Apple but I know they have Mods on this board that should be able to answer my question.
Is there an official message from Apple on what users like me should do now that my $2000 laptop is no longer useful for me when I travel?
I can not stay connected to any wireless signal for any period of time since the first Airport Update. Obviously, since Apple came out with a second Airport update shortly after, they realize there are problems.
Is is really that difficult for Apple to produce an update that will roll back my laptop to its original state without re-installing the OS?

Since the 2nd last update I haven't been able to connect to WPA networks at all. I just get an error message and that's that. The latest update didn't solve the issue either.
I've made several posts about my problems with the Macbook Pro airport card not working at all, and its problems with Airport Express, but I've never really gotten any good response.
    Thanks Apple!

  • Rollback Airport update 2005-001

Any way to rollback Airport Update 2005-001 ?
After having problems with 10.4.3, I updated to 10.4.4 with some trepidation, but that worked beautifully.
Then I made the mistake of accepting the Airport update in Software Update. My airport connection to the internet immediately died after that. Can still connect to my base station using ethernet and surf the internet, but once I connect by airport, the wireless connnection to the base station is fine, but I cannot surf using Safari or Firefox, or download mail. Pinging still works, though, strangely enough.
Base station is a Compex NP28G. Ironically Airport Update 2005-001 was supposed to improve compatibility with 3rd party wireless equipment, but it broke my connection !!

    Hi Shih-Tung -
I don't have an answer unfortunately, but I do have the same question, except my system is running 10.3.9 and the airport extreme firmware is version 400.17 (3.90.34.0.p11)
I would appreciate information on rolling back as well - after accidentally applying the "upgrade," my wireless connection is unusable. It can connect, and gets a strong signal, but can't get an ip address. Even setting the ip manually doesn't work. I can connect just fine with ethernet. I have a belkin F5D7230-4 router.
    Thanks,
    Bree

  • Sudden increase of AEBS issues? Is it linked to the latest Airport updates?

Is my impression correct that AEBS issues of a certain type (a) have suddendly increased and (b) seem to correlate with the latest Firmware Updates for AEBS?
I posted already a problem (no LAN functionality, I have no access to printers etc). I was wondering what you think about.
Further, does somebody know how I can revert the FW Update 5.7 and go back to 5.6?

"Sudden increase of AEBS issues? Is it linked to the latest Airport updates?"
We are not allowed to ask that question. Remember, it must, must, must be our fault - we have to be careful about that. Well, I guess that if someone who leans to the right politically, can still question the actions of the current president - then I guess it is OK for Mac lovers to question Apple - so I take back what I said at the top.

  • How do I uninstall 8nov2005 Airport update rubish ??

Is there any person that can shed some light on this latest Airport update that bust's my signal and performance of my airport card.
I use to have at 900ft avg. 75% signal now I can only achieve max 75% at 3" ( inches ) after updating to 8nov2005 airport update ???
10.3.9 pbook 1.5ghz 15" the only thing that changed is the update.
Even in windows the signal from the Wifi router stay's the same.

Terence, I was trying a way to message you directly - jumping on a recent thread seemed to be the only way (sorry, DEW45).
Terence, you seem to be the foremost expert on apeture and iphoto and have helped me many times in the past (thanks).  I have a question that you may be able to help with (anyone also feel free to take a stab).  I use blogger to upload my photos and host my blog (www.sippingespresso.com).  I spend hours organzing and editing photos - namely, I will enhance and sometimes alter an image in Apeture.  It always saves over the orginal file (at least for viewing purposes), which is fine by me.  But then when I go to upload the photos onto blogger it seems to always pull my dull, original image.  Obviously, I want the newer, bright, enhanced photo.
I'm one step away from importing them, dragging them out of iphoto and into Photoshop, then editing the files and dragging them back into iphoto, deleting the originals and uploading from there.  There HAS to be a better way - please help!!  I've already posted far too many boring images without the beauty of Apeture's "auto enhance".
Thanks in advance, Terence or anyone else.

  • Time Machine and AirPort Updates v1.0 & ...

I have a question regards Time Machine and AirPort Updates v1.0 & AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express Base Station with 802.11n* Firmware 7.3.1
I have a new (Feb 2008) Mac pro with the airport card internally installed. Do these updates apply to my card & should I install them?
    Thanks,
    Harris

if it shows up in software update, it can be installed. If you are not using Time Machine on a disk connected to the Airport, you can probably skip it, but these updates USUALLY work.
There is always somebody that comes in and cries that "Update YYY Broke My Computer" but generally they go pretty smoothly

  • Printer No Longer Connects to Base Station after Airport Update

I recently installed the Airport Update and ever since my printer is no being seen by the Base Station. Before the update everything was working perfectly, now nothing. I've tried every possible solution I can think of with no luck. My printer is an Epson SP2200 and I'm trying to connect to an AirPort Extreme Base Station.
    Anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

The firmware is almost certainly the problem.
I have had this exact problem, had a samsung clp-300 working fine on an airport extreme for months, then the whole thing went pair shaped after a firmware update
Go to the link with instructions
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1641516&tstart=0
I have solved my issue with airport and printer loss of recognition. Open Airport Utility and install Firmware 7.2.1 over the top of 7.3.2. Firmware versions are in a simple drop down list. Steps are: 1) Open the 5.3.2 version of Airport Utility 2) Select the Airport Extreme icon in the picture list on the left 3) Click Manual Set-Up button at the bottom 4) Menu "Base Station" -> "Upload Firmware"
    5) Select Firmware 7.2.1 from the dropdown list.
I tried this and it worked a treat. The problem is now resolved. I am using 10.5.4 on my iMac, but using 10.4 on a couple of macbooks as well. They are all functioning fine after I got rid of the update

  • After the Airport update today, Airport Utility no longer sees my new Extreme or my 2 new Airport Express relay stations (same network); however, my internet is working and all Airports are green?

After the Airport update today, Airport Utility 6.0 no longer sees my new Extreme or my 2 new Airport Express relay stations (same network); however, my internet is working and all Airports are green?  I'm running Lion on my iMac and updated when Airport Utility prompted me to do so a few hours ago.  After applying the updates is when Airport Utility stopped seeing my routers.  But they are working?  Thoughts?

Did you remember to completely power cycle the entire network?
You would want to do this after any update or change to the network.
If you did not do this yet......things are out of sequence.
Power off everything on the network.....all devices.....power down order is not important
    Wait a few minutes
Start the modem first and let it run a minute or two by itself
Start the next device connected to the modem the same way
Work your way out on the network starting each device about a minute apart
    Check the network

  • New Airport Update no longer works with my Verizon supplied DSL WiFi

While at work today (03-28-08) I allowed the new Airport software update to install. This was done over an ethernet connection. I arrived home, my Macbook will not recognize the Westel DSL modem/WiFi that I've had for some time and was provided by Verizon. It keeps asking for a password and this is a WiFi set up without a password.
I'm writing this on my wife's Macbook of the same vintage but without the Airport update.
Any suggestions on how to move back to the old version of airport so I can get back to work again? Any chance there will be another update to fix this problem? Help, I don't really want to run an ethernet cable across my house to fix this.
I'm fearing that this is the same problem my father had when he visited with his Macbook Pro with Leopard.

Hi Jeff, i had the same issue after i updated the to the latest airport software install this morning(3/29/08).
I think you're going to have to update your Westell Modem.
Give the following a try, it worked for me.
    Go to:
    http://netservices.verizon.net/portal/site/msa/?epi_menuItemID=c567d167631f69212 4525d7253295c48&bookmark=helpitem&case=VersaLinkFix
Now look at the model number under the modem itself and download the correct upgrade.
If you download using the mac, you will see a .upg file begin to download. Once its downloaded you have to log into the Westell modem by either the IP address or just by going to http://dslrouter/ .
Then you have to look for the upgrade menu and your going to choose local upgrade and select the .upg file. at that point it will take about 4-5 minutes for your Westell to upgrade itself and start working again with you macbook's wireless.
Hope it helps, Good luck and let us know if it worked for you.

  • Macbook will not boot after last 10.5.2 airport update

Installing the latest airport update to 10.5.2 killed my macbook. If I do a opotion+apple key+s, I get the following message
loading system\library\extension.mkext .............error x0000008 or something like that.
Any suggestions on how to fix that? I seen something on the internet about deleting mkext file, but am a little afraid I will make things worse. Is there a way to boot up with this error like a safe mode, or do I have to boot with external USB disk or installlation disk? Any little details would help. I am familiar with Linux and WinXP, but not mac OSX.

This problem has been solved. Booted of USB drive and deleted the file. It started after, although it took awhile.

  • Old G4 running 10.3.9 won't boot after Airport update

    Hi,
My roommate has an ancient PowerMac G4 / 450 Mhz that runs on 10.3.9. Recently, he installed an Airport update that came up in Software update. When trying to restart, the computer wouldn't boot anymore but got stuck on the grey screen w/ grey apple logo, without any error message.
Does anyone have this problem, too? If yes, are there any easy workarounds? As of now, I am planning to boot from my 10.3 Install disk and try to restore the system, hopefully without losing any of his data.
If you have any suggestions / comments, I'd be very grateful.

    Welcome To  Discussions rabatjoie!
    "...PowerMac G4 / 450 Mhz..."
That would have to be a G3, not a G4.
Is this the model Apple Power Macintosh G3 450?
What size is the Hard Drive, and how much space is available?
How much RAM is installed, and is it original or added?
Is the Mac shutdown overnight, or does it run 24/7?
Have any routine Maintenance procedures ever been run?
What peripherals are connected? A keyboard, mouse, printer, external drive or modem, router, etc?
"...planning to boot from my 10.3 Install disk..."
Why not use your roommate's Panther 10.3.x discs?
    Are those available?
Is your version a Full Retail Version, of the Panther Install CDs?
The discs should look exactly like the images in the above links, and not say Upgrade, CPU Drop-in DVD, or "This software is part of a hardware bundle purchase - not to be sold seperately." on them.
If your discs are Model Specific or Upgrade discs, they will not work to do an Archive & Install of Panther 10.3.x, on the PowerMac 450 Mhz.

  • Problems after Airport Update

I own a 2ghz/2gb MBP running 10.4.7. After I installed the latest Airport Update 001, my computer has been acting up. The MBP now has major issues connecting to my graphite airport, though my eMac (10.3.9 w/latest security update) does not have any issues. The graphite airport has WEP enabled, but the MBP refuses to keep the password in the keychain. Everytime I try to connect to my network (upon wake up or start up) I receive an error stating that there is a problem joining the network. After about 10 seconds, though, it connects. Also, it doesn't recognize that the airport is one of my "trusted networks." Before connecting it says, "none of your trusted networks could be found, would you like to join (my network name)."
What I have done so far:
    Repaired permissions.
Created a new user (has same problems).
Shutdown and restarted all of my computers/router/modem at least 5 times.
Put the WEP password in the keychain manually.
Changed the Airport's channel a few times as well.
    MacBook Pro 15", Powerbook 12" G4, eMac G4 & iMac G3   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

After countless nightmares trying to connect to my home network, and one kernel panic, I zapped the update with AppZapper. No problems after that.
Apple, I'm sorry ,but I think you got this latest SU wrong!

  • Can't send mail after AirPort update

After I installed the latest AirPort update, I can no longer send emails through Mac Mail but I can still receive them. I can send emails if I plug my MacBook directly into the cable service router through the ethernet port. According to my ISP (Cox), I have Mail configured to work properly. Is there a setting on the AirPort that I need to change?

    The error message says:
"The sender address [my email address] was rejected by the server smtp.east.cox.net.
Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be delivered."
There is only one server I can use. There is a button for the Connection Doctor, and that shows all green lights.

  • Airport Update and New Problems

Every since I exposed my rock stable mac to the last airport update and system update, I have had some connectivity problems with my airport. I cannot get Back To My Mac to work. I can't print off of my USB connected to the airport. I went into Airport set up and the airport does not recognize the printer. I tried to get on my desktop mac in the other room, and can't log on. I can't see my wife's computer sitting across from me. Should I be looking at a different problem, or is this a up-date conundrum?

I'm still experiencing these problems with the 7.4.2 firmware upgrade. I think there may be a problem with the computer's Airport card, not with the base station. Perhaps the 7.4.2 firmware has nothing to do with it. Maybe it's a problem with an OS X update. Sometimes, inexplicably the internet will go offline for a few minutes. During this time not only my network (coming WiFi from my Airport Extreme Base Station) but also all of my neighbor's networks suddenly disappear. A few minutes later everything returns to normal. Also during this time my ISP remains online; there is no problem with the ISP. The MacBook is the only device that seems to "think" that all internet networks are down. Another big tip off is during this time the Airport utility fails to recognize my base station at all. It doesn't even see it... period. If this were an ISP problem the Base Station would still appear as visible to the AirPort Utility.

  • I'm trying to install Time Machine and Airport Update V 1.0 but installer

keeps returning error message: You cannot install Time Machine and AirPort Updates on this volume. This update requires Mac OS X 10.5.2 or newer.
I am in fact running 10.5.6. Would the fact that this update was dated in March of 2008 have anything to do with it? I think it's the latest update for TM and Airport.
    Any suggestions?

Kappy, how'd you get so smart. On further investigation I discovered that I had already downloaded and installed that update. I will follow your advice in the future, not risking showing off as a fool.
