Airport USED to work...

For some reason, I can't connect to the internet via my airport. I moved about a month ago and it was working fine at my old place. I upgraded to Airport 4.2, I used the Airport Administrator but I keep getting "Cannot connect to network" I have taken my Powerbook to my dad's house to use his airport base and it works just fine! Not sure what else to do!!

I assume you have checked all the connections to the airport and the modem etc.
and you have updated to the latest airport software etc on both the pc and the basestation.
If you restart does the connection return temporarily?
have you tried unplugging and replugging the basestation?
any encryption running? if so, turn it off and see if the connection returns after restart.
persevere, you can get this solved, it just takes getting all the info together on your particular problem.

Hello. I bought my Macbook pro about two weeks ago and never had problems with my internet connection. I moved last week to another city, and had my wi-fi installed today. My brother has a Powerbook G4 and it worked fine with the new connection, but my Mac won't; it won't connect automatically when I turn the computer on and when I click on "open network preferences", nothing happens. I already got connected by clicking on Network Diagnostic in Safari, but i'd like to do so without going through all that everytime I need to get on the internet.
Can anybody help me to fix this problem? I'd really appreciate that. Thanks in advance.

Tell us about your network. How are you connected to the internet? Cable modem, DSL?... Is there a router involved? Which one is it? System Preferences>Network>Show:Airport>TCP/IP are you getting an IP address?

I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
Power-up your computer(s).
If the above steps do not solve the problem, start over with step 1 above, but then perform the next steps between steps 1 & 2. above.
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Continue with step 2 in the first set of steps.
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

Is there a way to connect an old Sunflower iMac (OSX 10.4.11) to a new Time Capsule? It used to work with old Airport Extreme with updates thru Snow Leopard but now seems to only allow WEP encryption instead of WPA.

It used to work with old Airport Extreme network, run from a intel iMac with updates thru Mavericks but now seems to only allow WEP encryption instead of WPA and can't connect to Time Capsule. Airport Extreme Base was controllable from either computer up through Snow Leopard (I didn't do any of the Lion upgrades). Then when I upgraded to Mavericks I lost the ability to use Airport Utility with this hardware on the Sunflower but could still connect wirelessly to network without any problems. But now with the Time Capsule upgrade the Sunflower is blocked from network by a dialogue that requests ony WEP password, not WPA pwd used by Time Capsule. Neither can I use the old airport extreme base to extend the time capsule network since I can't input the correct password/encryption approach to join it. Is there a work around? Would a newer but old Airport Express be able to extend network to Sunflower? Or maybe a third party wireless (such as Netgear, Dlink, etc) that has browser type control rather than special utility?

I can’t claim to completely grasp the issue(s) you’re describing, but the underlying problem is presumably your iMac’s obsolete AirPort card. Whatever the case, an obvious (if not particularly helpful) answer to your stated question would be to connect your iMac with an ethernet cable, using powerline adapters as an alternative if you don’t want to have wire running all over the place.
My still fully functional clamshell iBook, with an original AirPort card, connects wirelessly to my 4th Generation TC network by means of a cheap 802.11b/g/n USB Wi-Fi adapter. This might be an option for you too.

When you edit your TC's settings the access controls appear under the Network tab, don't they?

Airport Express used to work fine with Extreme, now doesn't

There are so many threads dealing with this, and a lot of alphanumeric references, but they seem to be with newer hardware. Here's my situation:
I'm using an older (4 years?) Airport Extreme Base Station, with an older Airport Express that shows up as "6d156f". The Express used to work just fine with the Extreme - plug it in, configure it, stream itunes just fine.
Now, the express continually flashes amber. I've done the reset numerous times to get it to show up in the Airport Admin Utility. I can go through the configuration steps, and when I get to the window to select the network I want it to join, everything seems fine. I select a password to protect the Express, but when I click "Continue", nothing happens. No activity from the Macbook running the configuration, nothing but a blinking amber light from the Express.
I re-installed the firmware update 6.3 with the Express connected via ethernet cable as some suggested. Didn't seem to do anything.
Of note, I had the same issue last week at a vacation rental, but was able to get the Express to work after a reset.
Sorry for the rambling, but I'm in a fog about this now.

Temporarily connect your Mac to the AirPort Express with an Ethernet cable, and then, try to access it with the AirPort Utility again.

Airport Express use to work on both computers, now just one. Did Bonjour &

So I had my HP Printer working with my Apple Express wireless with both my desk top and laptop.
My laptop is fine.
My desk top directed connected to my wireless router use to work until I reconfigured Acrobat Profession 8 because it stopped working. Now Acrobat is working but my printer is not.
I did Bonjour and nothing shows up. I Airport Admin Utility and it didn't show up so I looked it up with it's IP address. It found it.
Now what do I do "UPDATE" OR "REVERT"? I don't want to mess with the setting that will stop the laptop from working.
Or do I hardwire to the airport express for my desk top to do bonjour or utility.

I figure it out myself. While fixing my Acrobat Professional it bounce my printing Ports around. I checked the port box with the correct Apple Express IP address and it works fine now.

The latest Bose Wave SoundTouch music system still uses a single 3.5 mm analog Aux port. You would connect the two using an analog audio cable with 3.5 mm stereo jacks on either end.

PC Used to work with XP and airport Extreme Basestation but not with Vista

Please help, my PC Used to work with XP and airport Extreme Basestation but not now with Vista. I have a MacBook Pro connected and also a Mac Pro connected to the network on it and they still work, i have put the latest software on the PC and the firmware is up to date. The only thing i can see on the network on the PC is the basestation Hard Disk (shared also to the Macs) but i cannot connect with the password, i have tried everything in my knowledge, including formatting the machine and reinsatlling OS and changing security setting to no avail. Any ideas anyone?

How do I configure my Airport Extreme to work in Bridge Mode and provide specific IP addresses to clients

My Airport Extreme is working with an Airport Express to wirelessly extend my wireless network. Both Airports are configured in Bridge Mode per the instructions I found on Apple's support site. I want to assign a specific DHCP address to a wireless camera that is in range of the Extreme, but I understand that the Extreme needs to be in DHCP Only mode to do this. But if I change the mode to DHCP Only, the Extreme will lose contact with the Express. How can I get both functions to work - wireless network extension and specific DHCP addresses?

Then what device is providing DHCP? Only once device per subnet should be the DHCP server. One should be DHCP and NAT and the other in Bridge mode for most home setups. The unit with DHCP and NAT should be the one connected to your cable or DSL and the other set in Bridge mode only extends your network.
On the wireless config page set whichever you're using to extend your network to "Extend a wireless network" and give it the details of the network to which you're attaching it.

Ram related kernel panics on a MBP (ram used to work, hardware errors-)

i have a 2.2GHZ intel core duo 2007 MBP, which once ran Tiger and is now running 10.6.3
I had the NVDIA graphic card break down associated with such models, and it was replaced thanks to the extended care plan, here in Paris, so the logicboard is new- I also got a (technician installed) new HDD, and snowleopard
I originally had the 2 1Gig ram, but 1st got an extra 2Gb of danelec ram, and finally another 2GB- it ran fine for a couple year or so-
then, a few months back I recently started getting kernel panics, on tiger- I fist thought they were HDD related, got a new drive installed by a technician, switched to snow leopard-
yet they continue, and they're apparently RAM related, yet what is odd is that they can be reproduced with any RAM combination involving 2 sticks- the original apple 1Gb + any of the two GB ram sticks, the 2GB ram sticks together in any slot-- it's all the same, the screen goes grey and i'm told to shut down the computer
with one ram stick it works, this avoids the issue- but not always
i've moved the ram around, checked the slots, reset the PRAM,yet the issue is still there.
now i know that I should be using paired ram, and will do so in the next coming months when I can afford it- yet what has happened to make the make the MBP seemingly refuse two sticks of RAM when it didn't before ? are the two sticks dead ? or is there an issue with the slot ?
I'd also need to know that this is not a logicboard issue if it's possible- the logic board was changed due to the NVDIA bug, so it's a year old or so-
I'm running it on the 2GB danelec as I type, no issue, the samsung ram works as well, and so does the 1GB apple ram, in any slot, yet two slots of ram causes the kernel panic crash- the area near the ram slot also seems to get very hot-
I ran the hardware test yesterday, booting from the tiger dvd, which was difficult (possible drive issue)
finally managed to boot into hardware test mode (must be a superdrive issue)
running an extended test with the 4GB of ram in there
first pass found an error :

looking the errors up online didn't give anything so far, any clue as to what might be wrong here ? the RAM used to work fine (i've been using these two sticks for over two years), the kernel panics started happening on tiger- got a new HD drive a month ago, installed snow leopard, - used disk warrior and disk utilities, reset the PRAM and did the other tests and it continues- wether i'm running the computer from the internal drive or an external firewire drive-
running the hardware test, i also got two error messages, but on some passes only
if i look into the RAM status through about this mac, it says it's ok - what's odd is that the hardware test found errors, but not systematically----- I'd really like to know what the error message mean, can anyone help ?
i'm getting more and more kernel panics, unfortunately i live in France, so things are slightly less simple than they would be in other places customer servicewise- ie it might not be as simple as showing up at the new apple stores with this 2007 machine--

I don't get it, I read one post about why would we have to buy an AirPrint Printer when we have used the "print to a wifi printer" just fine in the past? Yes I feel that's exactly what's happening to me now too. I want to print from my iPhone and iPad to my WiFi Printer which is also now connected to my Airport Express WiFi network just fine. No problems.

New Security Update - Airport no longer works. Help ?

Hey all
this morning I ran various software updates: itunes, safari and the new security update. From that moment onwards, I cannot access the internet using my MacBook (about a year old, running Mac OS X 10.4.11). I normally use Firefox to access the net, but neither that nor Safari work now.
I know my internet works as I can access it wirelessly using my work laptop and my desktop.
But when I try to access my broadband using my macbook:
a) the "waves" on the airport all remain light-shaded
b) I receive an error message saying " There was an error joining the Airport network 'Zyxel' " (the router is zyxel).
If anyone has any thoughts on how to reset the connnection back to how it was, I'd be EXTREMELY grateful.

Having the same problem, but only with my Mac. PC and iPhone continue to work fine. Must be security update related. Is there a way to uninstall the security update?

Airport Express not working with Comcast

I used to have AT&T and had my airport working well. Yesterday i changed to Comcast and my airport is not working the light stays yellow.. I tried resetting it but it didn't work.. I use it with my old Cisco router and its working. Whats wrong with my Airport Express? My computers are Windows 7

A solid amber light indicates that the AirPort Express has locked up....or it is defective.
Suggest you that try a Factory Default Reset as follows:
Pull the Express from power
Let it rest for a few minutes
Hold in the reset button and keep holding it for another 8-10 seconds while you plug the Express back in to power
Release the reset button after the hold period and allow 40-45 seconds to restart
The Express should display a slow, blinking amber light at this time
If you continue to see a solid amber light after a few tries with a Factory Default Reset, the Express has failed and it will need to be replaced.
