Airport Utility 5.0: Where is it?

Can anyone explain where Airport Utility 5.0 can be found? It is impossible to install Airport Base Station Update 2007 001 without it, but it doesn't appear to be available as a download.
Infuriated.

Hello ollywood. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Interestingly, Apple doesn't provide the new AirPort Utility as a download since it's provided on the installation CD that comes with the new 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station. Have you tried contacting Apple for a replacement CD?
As an option, here's a workaround...
- Download the AirPort Base Station Update 2007-001 file from: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/airportbasestationupdate2007001formac.htm l
- Double-click AirPortBaseStationUpdate2007001.dmg to mount and display it's contents.
- From the AirPortUtilityUpdate window, right-click on "AirPortBaseStationUpdate2007001.mpkg."
- Select "Show Package Contents" from the pop-up menu.
- In the "AirPortBaseStationUpdate2007001.mpkg window, double-click on the "Contents" folder to open it.
- In the "Contents" window, double-click on the "Packages" folder to open it.
- Right-click on "AirPortUtility.pkg."
- Select "Show Package Contents" from the pop-up menu.
- In the "AirPortUtility.pkg window, double-click on the "Contents" folder to open it.
- Double-click on "Archive.pax.gz." This will create a new folder on your Desktop, named "Applications." The AirPort Utility will be inside this new folder. You can copy or move it to your Applications folder.

  • Airport Utility 6.0 where are Printers settings? Disks settings are very limited.

    After update to Airport Utility v.6.0 on my Airport Extreme I found that new versions has no Printers settings at all. I can see my printer on my Macs as well I can manage it from another Mac having older Airport Utility version, but not from a new one....
    Additionally, new Airport Utility version has very limited settings for managing disks connected to it.
    I even, at the beginning, was thinking that it put Airport Express firmware to my Extreme.
    Firmare update works fine. An update on Express was not smooth, as it lost conncectivity with my Extreme, but after reset it - I got it back (the upgrade changed network name that an Express is talking to an Extreme by removing brackets from its wifi name)

    My catch-all list of Airport 6.0 & Firmware 7.6.1 problems:
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    I've compiled a catch-all list of problems and changes with Airport Utility version 6.0 and FW 7.6.1. Some of the items may be relevant to this thread.
    THE PROBLEMS WITH AIRPORT UTILITY 6 AND FIRMWARE 7.6.1:
    Introduction: If you find AirPort Utility v6.0 too limiting or strange, you can ALSO install AirPort Utility v5.6, released alongside v6.0, to maintain all your previous capabilities. It works fine with both Airport g and n devices.
    PLEASE NOTE: According to Apple you must FIRST install Airport Utility v6.0 in order to access and install Firmware upgrade 7.6.1. Do that first. THEN install Airport Utility v5.6 and use it instead if you prefer.
    1) According to Apple's documentation, Airport Utility version 6.0 is ONLY for Mac OS X 10.7 Lion. It is NOT for 10.6 Snow Leopard. If you accidentally installed v6, you'll have to dig around in Apple - Support - Downloads for the previous relevant version for your devices and OS version. Here is the relevant page:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1483
    2) The HELP for Airport Utility has been updated. When you first access it you may well be looking at the old Help. It is supposed to update itself spontaneously over the Internet. It took a couple minutes in my case. Be sure you are looking at the NEW Help before you start using it. One way to tell is that the list of help topics essentially doubles from what there used to be. Also, the very first topic in the NEW Help should read:
    "Set up an AirPort device > Set up a new AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule"
    3) The HELP has some WRONG information. Here we go:
    3a) There is NO "Enable Guest Network" setting. You CANNOT create a guest network or name it or give it any settings. Why this is still listed in Help, I have no idea. Why the setting is gone: This is most likely because the technology behind guest networks, WPS, has been thoroughly CRACKED in the wild. Google "WPS cracked" for lots of documentation of the situation. It won't be resolved soon.
    3b) I can't find any 'Setup Assistant". Everything is now manual. This is not to say that there isn't a setup assistant that appears when you FIRST set up your Airport device. I don't know.
    4) After installing Airport Utility v6.0, there is no indication of the accompanying firmware update until you decide to run the new version. Even then, you have to click on the big icon of your Airport device and notice an 'Update' button about halfway down the popup window. You then have to assume that this button is telling you to update your firmware.
    5) After you update your Airport device's firmware, you may well discover an ERROR subwindow popping up inside Airport Utility that says:
    "An error occurred while updating the firmware. -6721"
    Don't panic! All you need to do is go into your Wi-Fi settings, either in your menubar or the Network preferences, and turn OFF Wi-Fi, then turn ON Wi-Fi again. This is part of a long standing bug in Lion's Wi-Fi with which I bet you are already familiar, certainly up through Lion version 10.7.2.
    6) Miscellaneous changes in Airport Utility 6:
    6a) The keyboard command to manually change your Airport devices settings is GONE. You have to click the little 'Edit' button after clicking on the big icon for your device.
    6b) There is no longer any summary window for your Airport device. You have to instead click on the big "Internet" icon for related data, then click on the big icon for your Airport device for local settings data.
    6c) There is no longer any HELP advising users to EXPORT their settings. (The Help only talks about Import of settings). BE SURE TO EXPORT YOUR NEW SETTINGS! I did this immediately after both updates.
    6d) MAC address filtering for Airport devices is GONE.
    6e) All references to IPV6 anywhere are GONE. I have to assume the IPV6 settings are now entirely working and entirely automatic. Let's hope so.
    6f) Signal and Noise data and graphs are GONE. Use Apple's Wi-Fi Diagnostics app instead. Apple have hidden it here in Lion:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/W-Fi Diagnostics
    6g) In order to access the menu items in Airport Utility, you have to first click on the big icon for your Airport device.
    --> No doubt there are other changes, oddities or bugs related to these changes. But this is what I came up with during a cursory strafing of the software.
  • AirPort Utility 6.0 - where are status light options?
    The old utility let me change the status light to be solid or flash on activity on my AirPort Extreme.
    I'm looking all over the place in the new Utility 6, but either must be blind or they took that functionality out?
    Can you guys see it? Anyone?
    Recommend that you use AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion for full functionality. This was released at the same time as 6.0 for users who need more features.
    You can keep both 5.6 and 6.0 on your Mac and use the one that you need. Maybe the next version of 6.0 will be better.
  • I have connected a new time capsule to a dsl modem.  It doesnt see the internet. Airport utility says: Disconnected. But it isnt. Internet tab shows PPPoE. Must I enter Account Name or Password? If so, where do I find them? If not, what do I do?
    I have connected a new Time Capsule to a DSL modem using an ethernet cable . The modem is working fine and connected fine. But the Time Capsule doesnt seem to be talking to the modem.  If I click the internet Icon in Airport Utility  it shows Disconnected.If I click the Time Capsule icon and go to the internet tab it shows  Connect using PPPoE. Is that what it should be? In the box below there is place for an account name and password. DO I need to filll these out and if so what do I put there--information about the Time Capsule of informationabout the Modem? And where do I find the information.
    Or am I completely on the wrong track.
    Thanks. The modem is a Speedtouch ST585  v6. How do I know whether it is in adsl bridge?  Also this is a modem-***-router. Does that make a difference?
    If you did not put it in bridge then it is not in bridge..
    Connect a computer directly to the modem.. open the browser to either 192.168.1.254 or 10.0.0.138 (if neither of those work you will have to check the IP address your ISP has set).
    BTW who is your ISP and do they allow PPPoE.. for instance most ISP in UK do not use pppoe so you have no choice but to run the 585 as a router. In which case bridge the TC
    Anyway.. open the setup configuration in the Thomson and select a template that says bridge.. run through the wizard and it will then bridge the modem.
    And I am using Airport Utility 6.0. How do I get the earlier version?
    By reading the site link I just gave you.. downloading the utility and running it on your computer. Or simply google to 5.6 lion airport utility... that is the way I find things when I don't have the link memorised.
    Finally, AIrport Utility shows a number in a red dot next to the time capsule icon, currently 2. What is that for? What does it tell us?
    Firstly download the useful utility.. but the dots tell you something is wrong and preventing the TC from working.. if you open the utility it should tell you what the errors mean.. I cannot tell you what they are, but it is likely to be no internet connection and pppoe has failed.
  • Where has my airport utility window gone ? when I double click on the icon all I get is an image of a globe and a base station with no options to make changes in my airport extreme.
    Where has my airport utility window gone? When I double click on the airport utility icon all I get is a picture of a globe and a base station with no further  options available to modify my airport extreme.
    Sorry, you lost me on that last post.
    Let's start over again.
    Open AirPort Utility on your Mac
    Are you asked for a password at this point?  If yes, enter the base station or device password that you used when you originally set up the AirPort router. Depending when you did this originally, you might have been given an option to use the same password as the wireless network. If you were not, then you have a separate password for the base station.
    You need that password to be able to access the settings for the AirPort router in AirPort Utility.
    If you see a window listing basic information, click Edit in the upper right corner of the window.
    If you are asked for a password, you must enter the device password or base station password that you established when you first set up the AirPort router as explained above.
    If you forgot the password, a Soft Reset will allow you to go in and reset the base station password.  Might be a good idea to write down that password.
    If you are still stuck, then the only option that you have at this point is to perform a Hard Reset to return the settings to factory defaults and then set up the AirPort router again.
    If you prefer, you can also do a Factory Default Reset. It's the same as a Hard Reset except for the timing of holding in the reset button.
    Yes, that is correct.
    Did you have the instructions that came with your Airport Extreme?  Are you sure you have it setup properly?  Here is the setup guide:
    Ensure you have everything setup properly.  Once you do this and if you are still having trouble, follow Star's instructions.
    +You may have already done this, but do you have the first AirPort Express configured to "Allow this network to be extended"?+
    Could not find that setting anywhere.
    It's in AirPort Utility, AirPort panel, Wireless tab.
    When I'm within the range of the base station I connect normally, but further away the connection drops despite the fact that the other Airport is very close and light is green. Interestingly, my PB Pro has signal almost everywhere in the house, but my iPhone and Mac Mini don't. Most likely just a hardware difference?
    In AirPort Utility with the second Express, in the AirPort panel, Wireless tab, have you checked "Allow wireless clients"?
    The second AP does show an IP address: 10.0.1.3.
    With a "Configure IPv4" setting of "Using DHCP", that suggests that the second Express really is connecting to the first Express. In that case I have no other explanation of your your problem.
  • HT1281 Where do I find the "Archive" option for Time Capsule disk in AirPort Utility
    Where do I find the "Archive" option mentioned here?
    Apple left this out (along with a number of other features and functions) in the new "upgraded" AirPort Utility.
    Suggest that you download and install AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion , which offers far more functionality. This version was introduced on the same day as AirPort Utility 6.0, but apparently many users missed it.
    You can keep both 5.6 and 6.0 on your Mac and use the one that you want.
  • Where do I find the port mapping option in the new Airport Utility?
    I'm using the new Airport Utility w/ my AEBS. I'm running it in 802.11n '11a compatablity mode" w/ my Macbook (no 11n).
    I can't seem to see the tab to set my port mapping. Where is it?
    I don't see it in the Airport or Advanced settings in the Utility.
    Are you in bridge mode? Under Internet > Connection Sharing, is the choice set to Off (Bridge Mode)?
    Or... have you discovered that you can double-click on a base station or choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu?
  • Where to find Airport Utility
    I currently have an Airport Express which I'm using with my Macbook running OS10.4.9
    Airport Administration Utility 4.2.3 is my current version, but I understand this has been replaced with "Airport Utility", perhaps v5? Does anyone know where to download this current version?
    The new AirPort Utility v5.0 comes on the CD with the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station. The v5.1 update is available via the AirPort Base Station Update 2007-001, but will only install if you already have v5.0 loaded.
    There is a workaround...
    - Download the AirPort Base Station Update 2007-001 file from: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/airportbasestationupdate2007001formac.htm l
  • Base Station Update 2007-001: AirPort Utility - where?
    I am confused (is this a surprise?):
    The recent "AirPort Base Station Update 2007-001" (see link below) includes general fixes and compatibility updates for the following applications, and I quote:
    - AirPort Utility
    - AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow Base Stations.
    I do have AirPort Admin Utility 4.2. So I download the update, but it tells me:
    "You CANNOT install AirPort Base Station Update 2007-001 on this volume.
    This update requires AirPort Utility 5/0 to be installed."
    Pardon? I do have AirPort Admin Utility 4.2.
    * Where can I get AirPort Utility in order to update AirPort Admin Utility?
    Sure, if I buy a new square base station, I'll get AirPort Utility on a CD. But how to apply the fixes to my good old white spaceship and update AirPort Admin Utility? Looking for clarification. Thanks.
    Update: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/application_updates/airportbasestati onupdate2007001formac.html
    The old "Airport Admin Utility" 4.2.3 gets bumped to 4.2.5 and the name is changed to "AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow" since it is the only one still supporting the older models.
    The bump from 4.2.3 to 4.2.5 must have fixed compatibility problems between the graphite/snow and "AirPort Admin Utility". If not, then owners of those base stations are going to experience problems.
    Both Utilities can configure older Extreme and Express Base Stations.
    It seems odd that one would be named specifically "...for Graphite and Snow"...
