Airport Utility 5.6 will no longer read Airport Express Configuration; no longer able to stream from MacBook Pro

I have an old airport express ( 1st one ever I think)  up until today I was able to use it with iTunes and also Airfoil to stream music.  Today I cannot stream music from my MacBook Pro 2008 ( OS X 10.8.3)  Airfoil sees the Airport Express but cannot connect, iTunes see it, but will not connect.  When I try to connect with Airfoil the error message is "Airfoil was unable to connect to the remote speaker "little fish". Please check the remote speaker and try again."
iTunes just tries to connect and then times out.
I have AU 5.6 in order to use the old AE.  It sees the AE and give me a summary page.  But if I try "manual set up" or the "continue" button - I get "reading the Airport Express configuration" and then eventually "An error occured while reading the configurarion.  Make sure your Apple Wi-Fi base station is plugged in and in range of your computer or connected via Ethernet and try again.  (-6753) "
I tried a soft reset, no help.
I tried a hard reset and I was able to see the new airport express and it allowed me to set it up again, then it restarted and everything was the same as before I reset.
I can stream to the Airport Express from my iPhone and my iPad
Does anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong?

It appears that the printer is OK and is on the network.  Eventually you may want to set a static IP address for it, but let's get things working first.
The first thing I would try would be to reset the printing system on all the problem Macs:
- Sys Prefs, Print & Fax
- Right (control) click the print queue area and select Reset Printing System.
- Select the plus sign to re-add it. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.
If this does not do it there may be something going on with the router.  I have a few ideas if this is required.  Let me know.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • While using the airport express can I listen to music streaming from the Internet?

While using the airport express can I listen to music streaming from the Internet?

The music must be in your iTunes library.
Or, you can try to add a special application like Airfoil that may allow you to stream any audio signal on your computer to the AirPort Express. It might work.

  • Airport Express to share printer with HP desktop and Macbook Pro?

How do I network my Mac Pro and HP desktop to use the same printer?  Any details are never too small..Tks

Run the AirPort Admin Utility and make sure the AirPort Express has DHCP disabled. You should then be able to see computers on the ethernet portion of your network from the wireless portion.

  • If I have my iMac internet sharing turned on, the Airport Utility won't recognize the Airport Express I want to use to stream iTunes to my stereo.  When I turn the iMac internet sharing off, the Airport Express appears but calls itself a base station.

If I have my iMac internet sharing turned on, the Airport Utility won't recognize the Airport Express I want to use to stream iTunes to my stereo.  When I turn the iMac internet sharing off, the Airport Express appears but calls itself a base station.  I just bought the Airport Express and it's not clear how I should set up my System Preferences for Sharing.  Thx

Yes. Unfortunately the stereo is too far from the wired ethernet connection   My iMac is connected to the internet using an ethernet cable from the DSL modem (plugged into the wall, not wireless).  The Airport Express is plugged into an outlet 25' away from the iMac and connected to my speakers.  I've turned on the iMac Airport wireless Internet Sharing, hoping to stream iTunes to the Express connected to the stereo.  The iMac Airport picks up several neighborhood networks so I know it's working (and I connected my iPhone wifi to it just to check as well).
When I use Airport Utility to set up the Express, the only time Utility recognizes the Express is when the iMac Airport is off.  When I turn on the iMac Airport, the Airport Utility immediately loses the Express and asks to rescan.
Maybe that explains my problem better.

  • Can't read the airport express configuration

    hi there,
i've got an AIPORT EXPRESS (b/g) V 6.3, which has been working marvellously for 4 year, with 3 different laptop ( powerbook, macbook pro and PC).
since last week end, my connection on internet was really slow (with the ethernet cable the connection is really fast as usual).
So I've reseted it. then reconfigure it. no problem.
then this saturday my girl friend couldn't see the network on her PC.
    so I've resetted it again!
since then my macbook pro see it, also my airport utility, but it can't connect to it....
airport utility says :reading the airport express configuration... and nothing !!!!
EDIT: also iTunes can't see the AE anymore...
i just don't know what to do.
    thank you for your solution
(hope my english not to bad)

Hello Relaxxx. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Although I know you have tried several resets, please try another "factory default" reset to get the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) back to its original factory configuration so that we can administer it.
After resetting it, connect your MacBook Pro directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, run the AirPort Utility to configure it. Where you able to access it now?
Once configured, you can disconnect the Ethernet cable. Using the AirPort Status icon in the menu bar, verify that you are connected to the AX's wireless network. Are you now able to both find it and connect from the icon?
Once you verified that you can access the AX, both via wire and wirelessly from the Mac, try the PC.

  • Can no longer print from IPad. Prints ok from MacBook pro. Any ideas?.

I am able to print from a MacBook Pro but I am no longer able to print from my IPad. Any ideas?

    Hi DanielBN,
I am glad that you are using an Hp ePrint printer, B210a.
I would suggest you to check the print center on your iPad and cancel jobs in the print center and then try.
You can follow the step bleow in order to cancel jobs on the iPad.
Click on the home key 2times.
It will bring up the apps you visited and it should also show print center.
Click on the print center and cancel the first job or all the jobs.
Then try printing from the iPad.
Do let us know the result.
    Thanks

  • Home sharing no longer shows up on my macbook pro iTunes.

Home sharing no longer shows up on my macbook pro iTunes. Our main computer is a Dell desktop that is authorized for home sharing. My macbook has also turned on home sharing, but the home computer does not show up. How exactly does home sharing work? Must you be in the same area to be able to use this feature or connected to the same network?

you will need both computer have itunes turned on and you will need a wifi for them to work.

I have a very old (by computer standards) MacBook Pro, and a newer one.  I've been using the old one mostly for iTunes, into which I have only CD entries.  For a long time, years, the old MacBook pro ceased entering the song titles.  This is very time consuming for me, so I finally investigated a bit further.
I discovered how to enter the track titles onto my newer MacBook Pro, and was so pleased!  But when I tried to do the same with the other laptop, it failed.
What I did, basically, was what the Apple Help suggested--choose iTunes General Preferences, etc.etc.  And yes, I did upgrade the old laptop to the newest iTunes version.
Am I just wasting my time here? Is there some reason why an older Mac Pro will not do what the newer one will, with regard to iTunes?
My older laptop is a 2.6 GHz Core Duo; it has 36 GB of "memory available."  The newer one  a 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7. It has 284 GB of memory available.
Both are using the same version of Snow Leopard--10.6.8.

  • AirPort Express Configuration - Basic Principles

Hi all, new to this forum and to mac details. I received Airport Express as present last week to stream music from a laptop wirelessly. I have a home network running from a Belkin band 'g' router. Laptop has 'n' and 'g'. I have tried setting up the AE a couple of time but have some conceptual as well as practical issues:
    1. Can i configure the AE to become a repeater (in band 'n'?) of my existing router if I connect it over ethernet (or via wireless)?
    2. If I use the AE as a standalone device, can my windows laptop connect to two wireless networks simultaneously (e.g. internet on existing network, AirTunes through the AE)?
    3. I currently have the AE with wireless its turned off, linked via ethernet to my router. If I stream from iTunes via wireless the music breaks up on continuous basis (every few seconds). If I connect the laptop to the network via ethernet it is fine.
I notice lots of posts on similar issues. Is it my configuration (is 'g' really that slow?) or systemic to AE and iTunes?
    4. I have a copy of iTunes music on a new DLNA NAS box on the network. Would streaming work more effectively to have iTunes source files from the NAS and play to AE over the network or would this be worse in needing files to go both to and from my laptop over wireless?
Sorry for all the questions - happy to be redirected to previous posts - thanks for your help!
    Miles.

Welcome to the discussion area, milesmiles!
+1. Can i configure the AE to become a repeater (in band 'n'?) of my existing router if I connect it over ethernet (or via wireless)?+
The Airport Express (AX) can "join" the wireless network created by your Belkin router to receive the AirTunes stream, but it cannot "repeat" or "extend" the Belkin network using a wireless signal only. You have to have an Apple(n) router for that function to work using wireless only.
However, if you connected the AX to your Belkin router using ethernet, you could configure your AX to "create" a wireless network with the exact same name (SSID), security, radio mode and password as your Belkin network. This would in effect expand your wireless coverage. Computers would automatically connect to the strongest signal based on their location.
+2. If I use the AE as a standalone device, can my windows laptop connect to two wireless networks simultaneously (e.g. internet on existing network, AirTunes through the AE)?+
As a stand alone device, the AX would "create" a completely separate wireless network than your Belkin. So, you would have 2 wireless networks, one Belkin and one AX. You would have to switch to the to AX network with the computer that you were using at the time to be able use AirTunes. It would make more sense to configure you AX as in #1 above unless you have a specific need for 2 separate wireless networks.
+3. I currently have the AE with wireless its turned off, linked via ethernet to my router. If I stream from iTunes via wireless the music breaks up on continuous basis (every few seconds). If I connect the laptop to the network via ethernet it is fine.+
This indicates that your computer does not have a strong connection to your wireless network at that location. Streaming requires a good deal of bandwidth and a weak signal will not allow the stream to work without drop outs. If you "expand" your wireless network as in #1 above, this may help your wireless connection if the laptop is located near the AX.
+4. I have a copy of iTunes music on a new DLNA NAS box on the network. Would streaming work more effectively to have iTunes source files from the NAS and play to AE over the network or would this be worse in needing files to go both to and from my laptop over wireless?+
Sorry, I have not done this, so can't give you a good answer. Based on your questions above, you may be able to come up with some ideas. Obviously, having the signal travel a shorter distance is the desirable way to go.

  • AirPort Express has weak signal while playing music from Iphone, intermittent play

AirPort Express has weak signal while playing music from Iphone, intermittent play

I'm having the same problem, even more:
    - Watching movies over AppleTV: switches off every 20min (sleep mode).
    - Listening to iTunes music ofer AirPlay: the same.
    - A whole confusion with switching airplay destinations (AppleTV, AirportExpress) over iPhone remote app. Sometimes remote cannot find my library anymore
    - Before, I was able to multitask: stream a DVD to AppleTV, using airplay mirroring, and simultaneously stream music from iTunes on the same computer, over the iTunes airplay selector, to loudspeakers connected to AirportExpress. No longer possible.
I've grown a big Apple fan in short time, proudly living  what for others is the future (your media stored anyhwere, controlled from anywhere, played anywhere, stop thinking in terms of devices). And, I've learnt to savour the  moments when you can look your Microsoft friends deep in the eyes and say: "The big difference with Apple  - it just works"...
At the moment, I'm trying not to invite my friends.

Well, you could install the drivers to the wireless printer in you other computers.
blue apple > System Preferences... > sharing
    check printer sharing.

  • Since upgrading to 7.0.3 (iPhone 5 64gb, with iTunes Match enabled) all of my music wiped off my phone.  Downloading it again, most of the artwork has been mixed up with other artists, and I'm no longer able to stream or download over 3G? Any ideas?

Since upgrading to 7.0.3 (iPhone 5, 64gb, with iTunes Match enabled) almost all of my music has vanished from my phone (weirdly some hasn't).
Downloading it again, most of the artwork has been mixed up with other artists, and I'm no longer able to stream or download over 3G (all tracks greyed out), though my network settings etc are all set correctly.
Lastly since upgrading to iOS 7.0.1 (and beyond) Genuis has become effectively useless: it continually asks me to connect to wi-fi, and if I do it creates playlists mostly composed of tracks by the same artists or those very obviously linked to them- previously it created brilliant, nuanced playlists.
Are these things connected, and how do I fix them?

I have done this on numerous occasions but I think that my Iphone has a defect. After many tries, reinstalls, deletion of content, changing content to be stored on external hard drive, deleting itunes and cleaning computer I managed to get all of the songs on and things seemed okay for a while.
The problem returned about a week ago after downloading a new album from Itunes. I now have 12.5k of songs leaving 10gb spare on Iphone which should be more than enough room to operate properly. Last night it seemed to be dowloading ok (after doing all of the above again for the umpteenth time) this morning it revealed that it had just synched 2.5k of songs and 18gb of "other" on the contents bar. it wont synch now as it says its over capacity. So the 18gb of "other" would probably be corrupted data that means it must corrupt each song as it tries to synch it.
The 2.5k of songs it did synch are working on the Iphone as is every song in the library on Itunes. I did completely delete the new album I bought and redownloaded it from the store then tried to synch just that album and it worked fine.
Just about time to dump apple I think!

It is against TOU to speculate on these message board.  Suggest you post your question on the Mac Rumors site.
As I already stated, there is no 10.6.8 update.  If there was, it would be listed in Software Update.
