AirPort Utility 6.0 Keeps Popping Up

Maybe once or twice a day, the AirPort Express Utility App pops up. The Internet indicator is yellow for a few seconds and then it switches to green.
I assumed this was because it was detecting a loss of the internet transmission from the cable modem, but every time it pops up, I rush to open a website in Safari to see if Im really not getting any data. But it seems to resolve itself so quick I havent able to test it.
Until just now... I was watching a video on YouTube and the app popped up again with the yellow Internet light, but the video I was watching was uninterrupted.
The AirPort signal (icon in menu bar) itself always has full bars. And for what it's worth, Im running a Time Capsule off of the cable modem (which never reports errors).

I have this same issue on my wireless iMac 10.7.3 - The geen light on the apple router goes orange for a few seconds then back to green, seems to resolve itself but the airport window pops up.  Only running one router and no time capsule.  Any ideas?

  • Scripting Airport UTILITY to choose TC setup

I have latest Timecapsule 2TB. Most routers and network drive offerr setup via an HTTP interface ; this has been said already, TimeCapsule has no web-based setup.
I have created 2 setups on my TimeCapsule, one with wif-fi activated, the other without.
My problem is the following : how can I remotely choose one or the other setup ?
Of course I'll need two actions to perform this : step 1 : choose correct setup / Step 2 : reboot TimeCapsule.
My thinking was to create an AppleScript and there is my point : I have no clue of what parameter I should use to create such a script ! Live Recording of an Applescript gives nothing else but "open the AirPort Utility"... then no action is beeing taken into the script.
Would someone have the same needs or do you think I could write a script to perform these actions ?
I was aso hopping to launch this AppleScript from iPhone (as an OS X APP launched from a remote APP on the iPhone).... but this is too big at this point.
I would be happy enough if I had the script.
    Thanx for the help

    I have the same challenge.
For Airport Utility (5.6?) in Snow Leopard
I used a script I made, but it doesn't work in Airport Utility 6+, the menu's are different.
Now I'm figuring out how to script the new version, but it's very difficult. It almost looks like Applescript doesn't work with the buttons and tabs in Airport Utility anymore.
So, if you have something, it would help me as well.
I have tried using the import and export files. They work (better than in 5.x) but are of no use to me, because I am not able to script importing them.

  • AirPort Utility unable to find any Apple Express devices.

Help! This is getting desperate. I bought an AEX for streaming music to my hifi. Installed it yesterday and it worked on both my desktop (running Vista) and my laptop (running XP). However I was experiencing sound dropouts on the Vista machine so, having researched on this forum, I tried to change a couple of settings in my wireless router (D Link DI524) to try and cure the problem.
My wireless network is still working fine but since making the changes the AirPort Utility software just keeps telling me that it is unable to find any Apple Express devices and I cannot make a connection. It is the same on both my desktop and my laptop.
I can't see why changing security settings in the router should prevent the Utility from connecting with the device as it has to do this during set up anyway to be incorporated into the network. I have tried a full re-set to factory settings but that didn't work. Any ideas? Otherwise this thing is going back to the store.

It's ok. It seems to have cured itself. And downloading Vista Anti Lag has cured the sound drop outs too.

  • HT3728 Time Capsule LED is solid Amber, will not show up in Airport Utility after any resets.  Ideas?

Went to update my TC after adding my AppleID to the "Back to Mac" menu and in the Airport Utility screen a meesage popped up saying "An error ocurred while reading the configuration" and the TC disappeared from the Airport Utility screen.  Now there is just a solid amber light.  Unplugging the unit for over a minute and then plugging it back in has the same result.  A soft reset does nothing, a hard reset does nothing, and a factory reset gets the amber light blinking but when I release the reset it goes back to solid amber.  None of these resets gets the TC to show up in the Airport Utility.
    I appreciate any help.  Thanks.
    Model: A1409 Time Capsule 2TB

The solid amber light is an indication that the TC cannot get out of startup mode, likely due to a power supply component failure.
Solid amber is not power supply.. it is a dead hard disk.. the TC cannot finish its boot if the hard drive is not working.
    Jeepaxle
If the TC is in warranty or you have applecare on any computer Apple should replace it..
Otherwise it is the poor WD green drive they now use..
Open the TC and replace it.
Sometimes a low level format will revive them.. but I never trust a drive again that died.. Look for a 2TB hitachi or Toshiba.. (same thing). Far better than WD green.

    Any suggestions

Airport Utility won't keep recognizing Time Capsule. Works when I set it up, then when close computer and come back - lost network again.
When having difficulties accessing the Time Capsule (TC) thru the AirPort Utility, try the following, in order checking accessibility with the utility after each step:
o Check the local connection. If you are trying to access the TC wirelessly, make sure that you are connected to its wireless network before running the AirPort Utility to administer it. If you are still unable to access it with the utility, temporarily connect your computer directly using an Ethernet cable to one of the base station's LAN ports.
o Power cycle the base station. Remove the power adapter's plug from the power outlet, and then, wait 15 seconds before plugging it back in.
o Perform a "factory default" reset on the base station.

  • Airport Utility keeps popping up

On my laptop (wireless connection), the Airport Utility keeps popping up.
Does anybody know why it does this or how to stop it?
    Thanks

Hello!! I have an iMac 3.06 and i do not use wireless connectivity... i am plugged to a LAN, and a colleague in a nearby office has a time capsule (that i don't use, or access for that matter)... but a few days ago the airport utility on my iMac started popping up, asking to click on continue to "set up this wireless device" and there is a list of two time capsule devices... i recognize my colleague's name on one device (with a green marker) and there's another one with an alpha-numeric code with an orange marker. I do not wish, nor need to configure access to any of these devices but the airport utility keeps popping up... is there any reason for this to happen?
I haven't modified my network preferences or connectivity configuration.
    Please help!

  • I have a Time Capsule on which I back up 2 MacBooks and on my wife's machine she keeps having Airport Utility popping up all the time with a yellow button flashing on the left and a Red button on the right side with a "1" in the middle of it.

I have a Time Capsule on which I back up 2 MacBooks and on my wife's machine she keeps having Airport Utility popping up all the time with a yellow button flashing on the left and a Red button on the right side with a "1" in the middle of it. Can any one tell me what is wrong. I read where when the yellow light was flashing there was a problem, but I am a novice at this and have no idea where to turn. It seems to be backing up on a regular basis.

    On the Mac......
Open up Macintosh HD > Applicatons > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the Time Capsule icon, then click Edit in the small window that appears
Click the Network tab at the top of the next window
Change the setting for Router Mode from the current DHCP and NAT to read Off (Bridge Mode), then click Update at the lower right of the window, and wait a full minute for the Time Capsule to restart to a green light.
    Then.....very important
Power off the Time Capsule and your Arris modem/router for a few minutes
Start up the Arris first, and let it run a few minutes by itself
Start up the Time Capsule next the same way
Your network will now be correct, and your printing capabilities will improve.
If Time Machine backups do not occur now, post back and we will tackle that next.

  • I can no longer access my Airport Express Base Station. When I plug it in, it keeps flashing orange. I cannot see it in the Airport Utility.

I can no longer access my Airport Express Base Station. When I plug it in, it keeps flashing orange. I cannot see it in the Airport Utility.
    How do I fix this

If you're comfortable resetting all settings, unplug it, hold down the reset button and keep holding it in as you plug it back in - keep holding it for another 10-20s until the amber light flashes
Then, open airport utility, now you should be able to see the device either on-screen or in the upper left under 'other wi-fi devices'

  • Airport Utility Keeps Forgetting TC

    Hi all,
My Airport Utility keeps forgetting the TC.
The only way to refresh the connection is to disconnect from Wifi, and then reconnect the Wifi. This in turn is affecting my TMs and is proving a nuisance. I suspect a Yosemite bug as it rarely happened on Mavericks.
The also happened when using Bridge Mode, and it happens likewise when turning off The TC Wifi and accessing it via my old router which is connected via ethernet to the TC.
Anyone else, seeing or experiencing this?
And following a quick disconnection of the Wifi...

Totally standard issue on Yosemite.. welcome to bug heaven.
There is not much you can do .. but go back to better more stable OS.. ie Mavericks.. or wait for apple to fix their latest greatest OS.

  • Can I use accounts in the Airport Utility to keep backup from multiple macs separate and separate?

Can I use accounts in the Airport Utility to keep backup from multiple macs separate and separate?

Backups from multiple Macs are always kept separate. Each Mac TM will create its own sparsebundle and will not interfere with others.
Using the accounts in AU will simply make each sparsebundle only accessible to that user.. ie it is a purely a security measure.. that is so weak as to be useless .. anyone can bypass it by pressing the reset for 1sec.
And what it will do is cut off everyone from their existing backups.. you will be warned when you set it up that what is about to happen may not be 100% goodness.. pay attention.. it is not.

  • Kids are using the WiFi all night long and not sleeping... How can I temporarily turn off the WiFi at night using the Airport Extream or Airport Utility?  I must keep the guest network up as I have a tenant in an apartment over my garage using that.

My kids are up all night streaming Netflix and using the WiFi on their iPads and Apple TV. The next day they don't want to get up and go to school. Is there a way I can set up a separate access point for just the kids in AirPort Extreme and then turn that one off when i go to bed? Or somehow turn off the main network when I go to bed, without having to reconfigure the entire router the next day, and then simply turn it back on the next morning?  I have to keep the Guest Network up as I have a paying tenant living in an apartment over my garage that uses that network.
In the event it's not possible with the AirPort Extreme, any other suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

You can configure the AirPort Extreme for Timed Access using the AirPort Utility. Basically what you are doing is restricting the time of a wireless device by its MAC address has access to the base station's wireless network.
To access this feature: AirPort Utility > Select the Extreme > Edit > Network tab > Enable Access Control: Timed Access Control...

I am trying to hook up my Airport Express to my current network and AirPort Extreme but keep getting the same error message: "This version of AirPort Utility doesn’t support this base station. Go to AirPort Service and Support for more information." Any thoughts?

This sounds as if you have an older AirPort Express that is no longer supported by the newer Mavericks operating system.
To check and see if  that might be the case, locate the model number on the side of the AirPort Express. It will start with an "A" followed by four numbers. Hard to see in the faint print.....so you may need reading glasses or a magnifying class to see the model number clearly.
Model numbers A1084 and A1088 of the AirPort Express are no longer supported by AirPort Utility in Mavericks.
You will need to use a Mac running Leopard, Snow Leopard, or a PC to be able to administer the older AirPort Express.

  • HT1515 My Airport Extreme keeps flashing amber. I have powered it down and hard reset it several times.  Airport Utility on either of my MacBooks and any of my iPads cannot find it.

My iTunes library is on a HDD attached to the USB port of the Airport Extreme.  We tend to run iTunes on my wife's MacBook and use Remote on our iPads to play music and interrogate the library.  Ther connection from the MacBook regularly drops and iTunes defaults to the MacBook HD location for the library.  When connection is restored, it therefore requires a rebuild/reload of the library, which can take some time, as it is over 70Gb.  This time connection has been lost, the Airport Extreme is flashing amber and none of the Airport Utility programs on either of our MacBooks or iPads can see it.  Can anyone advise as to how I get access to my iTunes library?

Since I can't seem to reset it here with the computer I have, can I take it to the apple store to reset it, and then bring it home to use it?
The old Express must be able to "see" your wireless network to "join" it, so unless you take your main wireless router with you to the Apple store along with the Express, things won't work.
The Apple Store might have a Mac running Leopard or Snow Leopard....but I would make an appointment first before I hauled everything down to the store.
Things would be much easier if you could invite a friend over to your house who might have a Mac using Leopard, or Snow Leopard, or a PC.
It would only take 5-10 minutes to get the Express configured.
Or, should I jsut buy a new one?  And, if I am buying a new one to stream music, shouldn't I just go ahead and get apple tv (I think the price is very similar)?
Sorry, I can't tell you what is best for you. Talk the folks at the Apple Store to get some opinions.
If it were me, I would get a new Express. Careful on the AppleTV as it only has a digital audio output..... that may or may not work with your existing equipment.
