Airport utility 6.1 no longer detects time capsule
After updating to the latest airport utility version 6.1, by time capsule (2nd gen) and my airport express (1st gen) are no longer found in the interface. The following message is displayed in the utility bottom section "No configured Airport base stations have been found. Airport Utility will continue searching." I have Lion 10.7.4 installed and both devices have 7.6.1 firmware. Any idea/help?
I corrected the problem by simple turning off the wiress off/on of the laptop the airport utility I was having the issue. I am not quite sure why the signal got "corrupted", but that did the trick.

Airport Utility says Mac connected to unkown Time Capsule
Hi,
I have an issue with Airport Utility (6.3.2) and a Time Capsule in my local network. This is happening at work where I have an iMac connected to the local LAN via an Ethernet connection. Wireless airport is switched off. When I open Airpot Utility, however, it shows my computer connected to a Time Capsule somewhere in my local network. See the image below.
None of my colleagues, nor the system administrator, knows to whom that Time Capsule belongs to nor were it is located. If I go to System Preferences > Network and I disable the Ethernet port ("Configure IPv4", select "Inactive") my internet connection is gone, but Airport Utility still shows the Time Capsule as connected to my iMac.
The only manner in which Airport Utility will show the Time Capsule disconnected is by unplugging the Ethernet cable.
So, I have a few questions because I could not find the answers anywhere and my system administrators have no idea what is going on (they are specialised in Windows environments):
1) The fact that Airport Utility displays a green light on the Time Capsule does it mean it is connected to my computer? If so, how can I disconnect it? Clicking on the Time Capsule icon I am asked for a password I obviously don't know. So I cannot acess its configuration pane.
2) How do I know if there is any data traffic between my computer and the Time Capsule? I cannot find out its IP or MAC addresses (Airport Uitility will not show them to me).
3) Is it possible that the internet traffic of the owner of the Time Capsule is being re-routed through my computer? My internet connection is indeed more unstable and slower than that of my colleagues (using Windows or Linux) but I can't figure out why.

I can't fond the Music Tab as specified in this article - "Ensure that "Enable AirPlay/AirTunes" is checked in the AirPort Utility Music tab."
Neither the Time Capsule or AirPort Extreme Base Station support music streaming. As such, if you access either with the AirPort Utility, the Music tab would be missing by design.

Airport Utility won't let me change time capsule settings....
I've had my TC about 2 weeks, and haven't had any problems until now....
when I am in close proximity, i use it with an ethernet cable, and if i am in other parts of the house i will set it to transmit wirelessly. up until now there hasn't been any problems with this. now however, it is connected via ethernet, and when i open airport utility it recognises the TC, but when i click continue to update the settings and change it back to wireless, it get's stuck on the "reading the time capsule's configuration..." page, and after five minutes says "there was an error with the connection-6722".
I can read files from the TC and write to it. i just can't update the settings! can anyone help??

This has me a bit confused as to why you're doing this.
I say this because my Macbook is sometimes directly connected to the TC over a wired network connection, and sometimes wirelessly via the TC. It has no trouble backing up regardless of what connection is utilized. I just leave the wireless enabled on the TC, and so have no need to re-configure the TC. I can read the TC configuration with the Airport Utility via either connection.
I'm not sure this helps, but am I missing something??

Airport utility crashes when trying to access Time Capsule

Everything was fine until yesterday I bypassed the TC for a while to use the modem directly. Then when I reconnected the TC now my entire Airport Wireless network is gone.
When I try to access the TC via Airport Utility, crashes. So, I did a hard reset, and now when I try to reconfigure (either to previous settings or default) airport utility crashes.
I still have internet access, via ethernet cable, going from modem --> TC --> Apple computer.P.S. TC is flashing amber.
I have three other Airport Extremes in the network, all flashing amber.
Airport Utility recognizes only the TC, and I cannot reconfigure, as stated above - crashes. -
My MacBook Pro's airport Utility will not recognize my new time capsule.
My name is Sam. I am not very computer savvy, but I am trying everything I can to get this time capsule to work. I have a MacBook Pro that has been getting the internet via a DSL connection. I am using a Versa Express VER170P dsl modem. I do NOT get wireless internet with this router. I bought the time capsule based on advice that I would be able to use it to get internet wirelessly in my condo. I have plugged the printer into the usb port, I have plugged my internet cord into the WAN slot and plugged the power cord into the wall. The TC shows the green light, but my Airport utility just scans indefinitely never finding it. Can anyone help? If so, please use basic terms. =)

The green light is a good sign so far.
Try connecting an ethernet cable from one of the LAN ports (there are 3 of them)on your Time Capsule directly to your MacBook Pro and then see if this helps AirPort Utility locate your Time Capsule to you can configure it.
If no luck, try shutting down your system and restarting. Modem first for a few minutes, then Time Capsule until you have the green light, then your computer.
Once you have the Time Capsule configured, and you are ready to make your first backup, keep the ethernet connection to Time Capsule as there is a lot of data to be copied and it will go faster and more reliably with this connection. Subsequent backups will normally be much smaller and quicker, so you could use wireless for these if your prefer. -
Time Machine unable to auto-detect Time Capsule as Backup Disk

I just got my new 500GB Time Capsule today. I'm able to connect to my wireless network via TC but am unable to back up any of my computers (2 MacBooks, 1 iMac) through Time Machine onto TC. In fact, Time Machine doesn't even auto-detect my TC. I've just updated all my software. I haven't checked if my MacBooks are able to print wirelessly via TC yet.
Anyone able to help?

So just in case anyone ever encounters the same problem as me, here's what the friendly guy said over the phone:
1. Go to System Preferences (Apple Logo/System Preferences)
2. Click on Time Machine and switch it on, a window prompting you to choose a Backup disk should appear.
3. If your Time Capsule isn't listed, click on "Set Up Time Capsule". (If that option isn't available, update your software before trying again)
4. The AirPort Utility window should appear with your Time Capsule listed on the left. Click on your Time Capsule, and then on "Continue".
5. Enter your Time Capsule Password, verify it, and then click on Continue" again.
6. If you already have a wireless network (like me), click on the first option, then continue.
7. If your wireless network requires your router to be connected to the phone line, choose Option 3 "I want to connect Time Capsule to my network using Ethernet to extend my current network or create a second network".
8. A list of previously used networks will appear. Choose the one you would like to extend (i.e. the wireless network you use at home if your Time Capsule is for home use).
9. (Because I'm currently backing-up my data, I'm unable to give exact instructions from that step onwards as it'll disconnect my back-up. Sorry!)
Finish up the last few steps (they're quite self-explanatory), and go back to your Time Machine preferences (Apple logo/System Preferences/Time Machine)
10. Switch the Time Machine on again, the window should appear again with your Time Capsule listed.
11. Click on your Time Capsule and then on "Use for Backup"
12. Your Backup starts (:
As for printing, once you've done the above steps...
1. Go to Airport Utility (Applications/Utilities/Airport Utility)
2. Double click on your Time Capsule, then click on Printers.
3. If your printer is switched on and connected to your Time Capsule, it should be detected automatically.
4. Click Update and you're done! (Do the same for all other computers you want to print wirelessly with) -
trying to reconnect airport express to time machine but express not showing up in base station. unfortunately clicked forgot in airport utility and express no longer shows up. how to reconnect?
I would recommend setting the wireless encryption on the AirPort Express BEFORE configuring it for the AirPort Extreme in this case. This issue also comes up often when configuring AirPorts into a WDS.
If setting up security in my recommend order does not work, temporarily connect the Express by Ethernet to the Extreme; make the security changes, and then, move the Express back to the desired location. -
Does this article apply to OS X Lion and Airport Utility 6.0?
Reason: Airport Utility cannot find my Airport Extreme (4th generation) wirelessly on my Time Capsule configured network even although the firmware in both units is up to date.I thought you were trying to Extend the network with an Express as the article mentions you pointed to...
You can't find the Airport Extreme then...
I woudl suggest doing a Factory reset....

Factory default reset (using reset button)
If the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule isn't accessible from AirPort Utility, the Factory Default reset can be accomplished by using the reset button.
Unplug the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule from power.
Press and hold the reset button with a pen or pencil, then plug the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule back in while continuing to hold the button until you see the light (LED) flash rapidly. This should happen after a few seconds.
Release the button. This will factory default reset the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule. -
iMac 10.5.8 ... Time machine died. Bought new Time Capsule2TB. Ordered 10.6 ... Not recommended to install 10.6 w/o prebackup ... Current utility for airport won't do with the new Time Capsule. ... What to do?
You are in the typical catch22.. you cannot use the TC without setting it up.. you cannot set it up without Lion.. so you can install the latest utility.
Do you have any reasonably current iOS devices.. they can run the iOS version of the utility.. that will allow you to set up the TC.
Or invite a friend with a laptop running at least Lion
Or take the TC back and get a plain USB hard drive and backup to that. -

Everything semed to work OK and I got the message that the system is added successfully and waiting for AExpress to start. It took for ever so I opened the AIrport utility window again and try to re do i. I am not sure what I did wrong I can no longer detect either of my device with Airport utility to set up a secure network. MY Internet connection is fine and I can connect using the AIrport to other networks that Airport detects in the area fine also. I just don´t see the net work I configured or the devices. I sure would like to know how it got messed up and how to get out of this. I have tried unplugging and restating the time capsule etc as they suggest in Apple manuel. But I have not tried resetting the time capsule. Would this erase the back ups it already has? Please help.

Windows 7 airport utility will not detect time capsule
Hi, I have a current generation time capsule and I am having problems connecting to my Windows 7 home premium PC. The time capsule connects and works perfectly using my Macbook. My set up is this: DSL router conected to the time capsule via ethernet cable. I can get the time capsule to pick up wireless and connect to my PC, but upon opening the airport utility it will not detect the time capsule at all. I have trolled the internet for about 3 hours trynig various things, none of which have worked. Has anyone had this issue and resolved it?
The airport utility has nothing whatever to do with disk access.
It helps having bonjour available in the computer. And the utility should be able to bring up TC setup.. although as noted.. apple have already bypassed windows as it is too old. The new TC requires v6 utility.. the version for windows is 5.
None of that is relevant to opening the TC hard disk.
-If this is not the case, can you please advise on how to access the storage on a windows 7 PC
Did you follow the instructions from my previous post.
Open your windows explorer and type into the address bar,
\\TCname or \\TCIPaddress
Where you replace TCname with the actual name of the TC.. your nice new short SMB compatible name.
Or use the IP address of the LAN on the TC.. by default 10.0.1.1
If you did this and it failed, you need to ping the TC by name and by IP address from command window..
Does the TC respond to pings??
If so it should be able to open the TC disk.. but you will probably have to use the IP address not the name which is likely illegal.
I also mentioned the issue of SMB names..
Please tell me what is the name of your TC as you set it up in the Mac..
Does it look like this.
Fred Blog's Airport Time Capsule.
If so it is too long.. it has spaces and it has an illegal character.. from windows the name should be short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
Please reset the TC to factory and start again.. you can use the airport utility in the Mac.
Do not use apple suggested names.. which are WRONG.
Use names like TCgen5
And for wireless TCwifi
Then try again with the windows.
If you continue to have issues, try using ethernet to the computer from the TC instead of wireless.
Make sure ipv6 is on and set to link-local or the PC equivalent of that.. I will need to look that up. -
Airport Utility won't detect Time Capsule
I have two airport expresses that broadcast my wireless network. I recently bought a 500 GB TC, and installed the included software. I took the ethernet cable from my Airport Express and plugged it into the correct port on the TC. It flashes amber. When I open Airport Utility, it can only detect my two airport expresses, not my TC. The instructions make it seems like it should just pop up when Utility scans for wireless devices. How do I get my TC to appear on the list so that I can set it up via Airport Utility?
ThanksIn order to help AirPort Utility find the Time Capsule, connect an ethernet cable from one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule directly to your computer.
Restart the Time Capsule if needed.
Once you have Time Capsule configured correctly, you can reconnect the other devices as necessary. -
Airport utility fails to detect time capsule
I'm sitting right beside the thing, so I know it isn't a distance problem. It's blinking orange, and cannot be found via search.
If AirPort Utility cannot "find" your Time Capsule after a few tries, (Did you power down both your computer and the Time Capsule and then power them back up?), your next option is to reset the Time Capsule back to factory default settings.
Power down the Time Capsule
Hold in the reset button and keep holding it in as you plug the power back in to the Time Capsule
Release the reset button after 10 seconds
Reconfigure your Time Capsule. You can use the same name, password, etc as before if you wish.
The factory default reset will not harm or affect your existing backups -
HT6114 AirPort Utility and AirPlay no longer works after 10.9.2 upgrade.
After upgrading to v10.9.2 last night, iTunes no longer shows my AirPlay speakers (attached to an AirPort Express) as available (other devices on same network see them fine still).
After upgrading to v10.9.2 the AirPort Utility can no longer see/connect to manage the Airport Extreme Time Capsule or the AirPort Express (the Wifi works, I'm associated to the SSID and sufring the web just fine, but I can no longer manage the devices - they don't even show up (marked as 'missing' with the option to 'forget' them in the GUI).This worked for me.
Joseph Rose's solution (in another discussion) finally fixed Airplay for me. I now have mirroring and extended Airplay functions again. It was a long road, but in the end, removing Air Parrot and Air Display was the solution for me.
Solution:
Ran the Air Display uninstaller that I found by searching in spotlight.
Ran the Air Parrot removal tool & confirmed that the files were deleted based on instructions from their website.
