Airport Utility and MAC addresses - Leopard

Hello,
I recently upgraded to Leopard from Tiger, and cannot stress how much I hate this new Airport Utility. It's like Apple tried to simplify the process so much so that it is bordering on extremely annoying. My biggest problem is the removal of the ability to import/export MAC address access lists (.txt file). Lately, I've had to hard reset my AirPort Extreme and Express (as WDS) base stations a few times due to problems, and let me tell you, re-inputting 14 MAC addresses one by one into each base station can be pretty annoying due to the time it takes...especially when all I had to do before was import it from my documents folder.
Why was this feature removed...? I just don't get it. It's such a simple thing and makes life so much easier. I was wondering if anyone knows a way around this? Is it possible to use or install the Aiport Admin Utility from Tiger onto Leopard so that can get this feature back?
Many thanks.

You can download Airport Admin Utility 4.2.5 from Versiontracker: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/15748
It's supposed to run under Leopard. My version (4.1.1) runs just fine for me but I stopped using it after Airport Utility came out. I didn't notice they removed the MAC import / export feature until reading your post.

  • Printer problem with Airport Utility and Epson CX5500

    Hi,
    I recently bought an iMac '24 2.66 Computer and was able to set up my internet through an airport. When it came to hooking up a wireless Epson CX5500 printer, the airport recognized it, but when it came to print in the printing queue it simply wont print. I was able to find a very helpful post that would possibly be my next step in fixing it (probably just a program error or hook up)
    Here is that post:

    +Hi there,+
    +I had the same problem, but with an Epson CX5500.+
    +Firstly, BTW - I found out there IS a list of supported printers: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1370?viewlocale=en_US. Before you scream - "that's leopard you idiot"; in the table, if the printer is listed with a MODERN driver, then it will work with Airport Base Station - eg TimeCapsule.+
    +Next. My problem was solved by deleting the spaces put into the printer name by timecapsule. When the printer is recognised it was called "Epson CX 5500". My Macbook printer service then set up a Queue which was mdns://...Epson%20CX%205500... Note - substitution of %20 for space in the name. I removed the spaces from the name via airport utility, manual set up, printers. Now the macbook could print to it.+
    Cheers,
    Mark
    The problem that i have is the step by step process of altering this or finding it. As i made the name of the shared printer EPSONStylusCX5500 but could not acess the printer name one to change it. The url link still shows the 20%. If someone could please take the time to explain on how to do it, then maybe just maybe, i would be able to print wirelessly. Any other ideas or even cheap printers that would work without a problem as i would simply go out and buy one instead. Thanks.

    What does not work?  Can you open up AirPort Utility and  take us through the steps? What happens after each step?

    I am trying to setup my new time capsule but it is not working. after entering the airport utility and locating the TC, after I tell the program to continue, the unit just disappear from the menu and the setup menu says there is an error. I tried using the wireless connection, and also the cable, but none worked. Any idea of what could be happening?

    What are you setting it up as.. join wireless network .. the very worst setup, it will disappear.. reboot the whole network in order modem. router TC.. clients and it will likely reappear.
    Tell us what network setup you are using..
    If you setup with cable to a computer completely isolated from the network with TC also isolated.. finish the setup of everything you want. .before update.. then plug it into the network. .then restart everything in correct order.. it will work most of the time.

    What is Airport Utility and why do I need to access Airport witeless devices in order to backup my iMac using Time Machine...HELP!!! PLEASE??

    AirPort Utility is required to configure an Apple AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule.
    Time Machine can use a Time Capsule or a locally connected volume. You only need to use AirPort Utility if you are using a Time Capsule.

    I would recommend setting the wireless encryption on the AirPort Express BEFORE configuring it for the AirPort Extreme in this case. This issue also comes up often when configuring AirPorts into a WDS.
    If setting up security in my recommend order does not work, temporarily connect the Express by Ethernet to the Extreme; make the security changes, and then, move the Express back to the desired location.

  • WLC+LAP+ACS4.0 achieving 802.1x PEAP and MAC address authentication ?

    How to configure WLC + LAP + ACS4.0, achieving username and password authentication and MAC address at the same time

    This might help with the PEAP:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/secursw/ps2086/products_configuration_example09186a00807917aa.shtml
    MAC Authentication
    Add a MAC Address to ACS
    Complete these steps:
    1. From the ACS main menu, click on the User Setup button.
    2. In the User text box, enter the MAC address to add to the user database.
    Note: The MAC address must be exactly as it is sent by the AP for both the username and the password. If authentication fails, check the failed attempts log to see how the MAC is being reported by the AP. Do not cut and paste the MAC address, as this can introduce phantom characters.
    3. On the User Setup screen, enter the MAC address in the Secure-PAP password text box.
    Note: The MAC address must be exactly as it is sent by the AP for both the username and the password. If authentication fails, check the failed attempts log to see how the MAC is being reported by the AP. Do not cut and paste the MAC address, as this can introduce phantom characters.
    4. Check the Separate (CHAP/MS-CHAP) box.
    5. Enter a password for CHAP/MS-CHAP (this password should be different from the MAC address).
    6. Click Submit.

  • How to set the IP and MAC address in C program?

    My working environment is Sun250 Server, Solaris 7 operating system. I encountered a problem ---- How to set the IP and MAC address in C program to make the system change it IP & MAC at runtime?
    Any idea is welcome! Thanks!

    Hi
    As a simplest possible solution, you can use the system command
    to run ifconfig that can set both the mac address and the IP address of the system. You will have to use setuid though.
    Or you can use the DLPI calls ( do a man DLPI or search for a
    Sun documentation on the same at http://soldc.sun.com) to write
    a pure C program.

  • Client Identifier and MAC addresses

    Hello Everyone,
    I am migrating my DHCP services from an old SUN server to an OES Linux server. In the old SUN files, my client identifier and mac addresses have a leading pair. So if my mac address is 00:30:C1:57:44:09, it is entered in the SUN files like this: 01:00:30:C1:57:44:09. My question is, do I need to enter that extra pair in my host records for OES Linux DHCP? If I do or don't, does it matter?
    The reason I'm asking is that many of my older printers and even some of the newer ones are not picking up an address from the new DHCP server when the old one expires.
    Thanks,
    Toney.

    Whilst I've seen this with NetWare-based DHCP the DHCP on OES Linux uses
    different objects and is provided by ISC DHCP which does not have this -
    my DHCP hosts are configured just with MAC address.
    If you examine a dhcpHost object in ConsoleOne - clicking the Other tab
    should show the dhcpHWAddress attribute has the value "ethernet
    01:23:45:67:89:ab" (where 01:23:45:67:89:ab is MAC address).

    Just printers or other types of devices too?
    If printers, particularly HP ones, check that they're set to pick up IP
    details via DHCP and not BOOTP. Yes should still work but we've seen
    problems here.

  • How to get imei number and mac address of mobile device on adf mobile

    Hi experts,
    I need to get imei number and mac address of device (supposed to be works on both android and iphone) on adf mobile
    bgrds

    Hi,
    Adf mobile support phonegap api. Version must be 2.0(you can check it by below code snippet) You can just reach uuid from both platform via cordova. Espescially, IOS restriction limits you to get device infos that you mentioned, but you can get uuid.
       getCordovaVersion = function ()
            var cordovaVersion = device.cordova;
            return cordovaVersion;
        getDeviceUUID = function ()
            var uuid = device.uuid;
            return uuid;

  • My Windows XP AirPort util and Bonjour can't find any wireless device

    I have both macbook and a PC laptop.
    I just started using my TimeCapsula and all features (Internet gateway, access to the USB printer and the external harddisk) are visible and working fine when using my macbook.
    My PC wireless card seems to be working fine too and I can access the Internet using the Airport gateway.
    My problem is that Airport Util and Bonjour on my PC "can't find any wireless devices" (even though It is clearly working fine) and therefore don't detect/mount the external drive or the Printer.
    Thanks!

    How do your Extreme and Express connect to one another? Wired Ethernet between the two, or wirelessly?
    Try unplugging the Express. Does that change anything?
    Wireless interference could cause the symptoms you're describing. Even though you did nothing to your wireless network, the presence of other wireless networks or introduction of nearby devices will bring interference where there was none before.
    AirPort and Bluetooth: Potential sources of interference for wireless devices and networks
    Try changing wireless channels; use "automatic" unless you have reason to use a specified channel. Try checking "interference robustness". Altering these settings may help, but they could make things worse.
    If you are unable to configure a device over Airport, or changing a setting leaves you unable to configure it wirelessly, connect its Ethernet port to your computer's Ethernet port and Airport Utility should find it.
    As a last resort, try a "hard reset" followed by re-configuring the Extreme, Express, or both. Start by removing your Express from the network. Re-configure the Extreme and see if that fixes things. If it does, add the Express to your network and re-configure it as well.
    AirPort troubleshooting guide
    I open airport utility ... can not locate any of my wireless devises, airport extreme base,, airport express, apple tv, wifi printer.
    AirPort Utility will only detect Apple AirPort base stations (Extreme, Express, Time Capsule) for purposes of configuring them. It is not designed to detect or configure other wireless devices like your printer.

  • Airport Utility on Mac and iPad can't see Airport Extreme or AEs

    Airport Utility on my Mac can't see my Extreme base station or two extending AEs. I thought this might be because I've yet to upgrade my Mac software, so tried using Airport Utility on my iPad--same story. The Mac lists the Airports but with yellow ! warnings; the iPad just keeps searching. Yet the Internet is OK (and shows up with a green light) and I can connect to everything on the network.
    Possibly unrelated, but our two Macs have each gotten the "IP address assigned to another device" message. Click Ok and it goes away and everything works, no rebooting or lease renewing needed.
    It's weird. Not critical, as everything works, but worrisome. Ideas?

    I had the same problem. My AirPort utility in Windows would not detect the AirPort Extreme until I was already connected to the internet. I have two routers in my house. When I connected to my other router and was connected to the internet via that, then my AirPort Extreme showed up in my AirPort.
