Airport utility can not find my airport express...
I was trying to connect a PC  (Windows XP) laptop to my wireless network via the airport express.
I have a Mac with an airport that I use to get internet in my other room.  I am trying to get internet on the laptop too.
I somehow manage to erase my network & now my airport utilities won't even scan/recognize my airport??
ANY help would be appreciated, mac helpline wanted $59 to help & I live in a small northern community where they do not have anyone that will address a Mac issue!!
    Thanks for your time.

Thank you SO MUCH Tesserax for taking the time to help!
I powered everything down, slowly powered everything else up from the modem to the airport then the computer.  I then reset the airport & rescaned it through utilities.  I set up a new network & voila!  wireless up & running again.
I am going to try to connect the laptop to the network now.....well, mabey tomorrow night, I've had enough for 1 evening!
I will update....or possibly be begging for more help...we'll see!
    Thanks again for your time!

  • Airport Utility can not find air port extreme base station

I am running XP home on my computer and have an air port extreme base station connected to it wired. I have no problem connecting to the internet yet more times then not the air port utility can not find the base station. On occasion it will find it but most of the time it can not. Rebooting does not help.

I recently purchased one of the new Airport Extreme base stations and after carefully reading the instructions; I first installed the Airport Utility 5.5 that came on the CD onto my MacbookPro. I then connected the new base station to my macbookpro via Ethernet and power it up. I copied a previously saved configuration onto it. All my printers, IMAC and macbookpro were able to connect.
I then used my older base station and my airport express to extend the N and G networks through the house. My problem was (1) the new Airport utility would consistently lose the older extreme base station and the airport express, (2) An my HP printers keep losing the wireless connection to the new airport extreme base station. The only resolve was to consistently restart the new base station, after which (1) the new airport utility would see the older base station and express again and (2) the wireless connection to the printers would be restored.
After about a week of this, I removed the new Airport Extreme and replaced it with the older extreme (802.11N DRAFT) and de-installed the Airport Utility 5.5 and re-installed Airport Utility 5.4.2 and everything works fine.
Has anyone else experienced any problems with the newly released Airport Extreme (fully 802.11N) base stations and Airport Utility 5.5?

  • Airport Utility can't find Airport Express after setting up as repeater station

I wanted to extend my 2Wire-based wireless network into a specific room that never seems to be able to pick up the signal, and found the following instructions on how to do so on Apple's website:
(note: these instructions were submitted by another user in response to a question as to whether or not an Airport Express could be used as a repeater station for non-Airport Extreme-based wireless networks - linked here http://store.apple.com/us/question/answers/product/MB321LL/A?pqid=QY4CAJJC7KFTTD KYH72DKPXF4CAUA9D4J).
Yes, you can do this two ways:  If you can connect your airport express to your router via ethernet, then you will perform the following steps in the airport utility:
    1.  Select your airport express.
    2.  Select manual set up.
    3.  Under Wireless, select Participate in a WDS network
    4.  Enter your network name, radio mode, channel, and security
    5.  Under WDS, select WDS main
    6.  Check wireless clients
    7.  Add the MAC address of the router
    8.  Click update
    That's it
Now, if you connect your airport express to your router wirelessly, all the steps are the same except for step 5.  In this step, select WDS remote instead.  Everything else is the same.
I followed those instructions exactly with my Airport Express and, after restarting, the amber light is flashing on and off continuously and the Airport Utility can't find the Airport Extreme base station. What the heck went wrong here?

    Update:
I restarted the laptop I used to set up the AX as well as pushing the "reset" button on the AX (first time - pressed it for 1 second, Second Time - pressed and held for 15 seconds then let go). The Utility still isn't recognizing the base station.
I also upgraded the Utility's software to 5.5.3 right before I went through these steps, and now it's not recognizing the base station. ARGH.
Update #2: I plugged the AX into my laptop with an ethernet cable and the utility STILL can't detect it. This is ridiculous.
Update #3: Not 30 seconds after update #2, it FOUND the **** AX >.< I'm updating the firmware, but I still can't get it to work as a repeater station if I have to plug it into my laptop all the time JUST to get the Utility to recognize that yes, Virginia, there IS an Airport Extreme.

  • Airport utility can not find extreme station after upgrade to 7.5.2

i been using extreme for about 3 years and it was fine until yesterday i upgrade to 7.5.2, it result i lost the internet. opened airport utility from my macbook, said" it can not find any wireless device" but on the top right of mac windows, the signal sign is still there,
i suspect it is something wrong with the IP setting, but i has't changed any thing myself, maybe the new updates change it?

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
Your system details don't mention what type of Mac you have, but if you can move it near to the AirPort Extreme and connect an Ethernet cable to a LAN port on the Extreme, then AirPort Utility should be able to see it. Once AirPort Utility can see it you can begin to investigate the problem in more detail.

  • Airport utility can't find Airport Express

I reset my network today after getting a new Aiport Extreme AC. After setting up the Extreme, I wanted to add my Express stations (1 and 2 gen) back into the network. But neither of them are appearing in AirPort Utility under 'other wi-fi devices'. This picture shows the 1gen express several minutes after a hard reset. Same  story with the 2nd gen express. Neither appear. I'm on a 2011 iMac, OS 10.9.5, Airport utility 6.3.2. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Hold in the reset button for 8-10 seconds on the 2nd Gen AirPort Express, then release and allow a full minute for the Express to restart.
During that time, restart your Mac.
Click the WiFi icon at the top of the screen, then look for a listing of New AirPort Base Station.
Click on AirPort Express just below that listing
Mavericks (and Yosemite) are notorious for "lost" AirPorts so you may need to repeat the actions above a few times. If you are still having difficulty, we'll need to check some Network settings on your Mac in regards to IPv6.
On your Mac.....open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock)
    Open Network
Click on WiFi on the left to highlight it
Click Advanced at the lower right
    Click the TCP/IP tab
Check that the setting for Configure IPv6 is set to Link Local Only
    Click OK
    Click Apply
Then, perform the same steps as above except click on Ethernet to highlight it
Restart your Mac again and see if the AirPort Express appears when you click on the WiFi icon
If still no luck....and if you have an iPhone or iPad handy......
Tap Settings on the home screen
    Tap WiFi
Look for a listing of Set Up a New Base Station
    Tap on AirPort Express

The airport utility does not find my Airport Extreme. I tried to reset the base, but I can`t make it. What can i do?

Please perform a Factory Default Reset exactly as follows:
Pull the power plug from the back of the AirPort Extreme (AEBS)
    Wait a minute
Hold in the reset button first and continue to hold it in for at least 7-8 more seconds while you simultaneously plug the power back in to the AEBS
Release the reset button after the 7-8 second hold period
Allow 30-45 seconds for the AEBS to restart
Temporarily, connect a spare Ethernet cable from your Mac to one of the LAN <-> ports on the AEBS
Open AirPort Utility to see if can now see the AEBS

  • Airport  utility can't find my airport base station

Im trying to set up a wireless internet at home.  I have a comcast cable internet connected to motorola sb120 cable modem and I connected an ethernet cable from the modem to my aiport base station. when I open the airport utility in my macbook (also from my iphone 4s) the airport utility can't find the base station.  the base station has a solid green ligh on and the modem "llink" light is binking amber.  If I connect the ethernet cable frm the modem to my macbook I can get the internet with out any problem ...please help me set up my wireless internet with airport base station. ty.

Suggest that you try the following:
    1) Reset the cable modem. There is a reset button on the back or bottom of the device. Check your documentation for the modem for exact details. In general, you press the reset button for a few seconds and then power down the modem completely.
That means pulling the power plug from the back of the modem or the AC wall plug
Leave the modem powered off at least 30 minutes
    2) Perform a Factory Default Reset on the AirPort Extreme using the instructions in this document
Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule FAQ
    3) Then power off the AirPort Extreme
    After 30 minutes.....
    4) Connect the Ethernet cable from the cable modem to the WAN port (circle icon) on the AirPort Extreme
    5) Temporarily, connect another spare Ethernet cable from your Mac to one of the LAN <-> ports on the AirPort Extreme
    7) Power up the modem and let it run for 5 minutes by itself
    8) Power up the AirPort Extreme the same way
At this point, the AirPort Extreme should be slowly blinking amber
    9) Open AirPort Utility (I assume that you have AirPort Utility 6.0) and click on Other Base Stations, then click on the Base Station xxxxxxx representing your AirPort Extreme to start the setup process
AirPort Utility should suggest that you configure the AirPort Extreme to "Create a wireless network". Accept that option and enter the required wireless network name that you want and passwords
Follow any more prompts as required and AirPort Utility should configure the device for you
Wait 25-30 seconds for a green light
    10) Disconnect the temporary Ethernet cable from your Mac to the AirPort Extreme
    11) Log on to the wireless network that you named during the setup process
    12) Report on your results

  • Airport Utility can't find base station

I feel like I must be missing something very obvious. But my Airport Utility can't find any base stations, even though I am successfully connected to this network, the base station is about three feet away from the computer, and Internet Connect has no trouble finding it and specifiying the base station's id.
I have just done a wipe-and-install of my whole computer; I've reinstalled all software from CDs or installers, and this utility wanted to upgrade to version 5.2.1 (it says Disk Version 2.0 on the disk) before running, so I did that. And no base station detected, despite rebooting the computer, and rescanning any number of times. I'm using OS 10.4.6.
    What can I do?

There is something puzzling that bothers me, even though I have things working again.
I first lost access to the AEBS when I tried to use Airport Utility to change the security setting of my network. It has been on the default WPA2 setting, and I was wanting to downgrade that to WEP because the long WPA password was too long to be accepted by my Palm TX Wifi software. But the shorter WEP password shouldn't have been a problem. At the time, after my system reinstall, the utility and the base station seemed to be working all right.
When I completed resetting the base station with WEP, though, there was an error message, after which I could no longer connect to the network with my laptop (using the old password or the new password), and then the utility lost sight of the base station as well. I had to do a hard reset and start over. When I did the same thing again, the same thing happened. When I reconfigured the base station with the WPA2 security, though, it all worked, and my laptop could get back online.
At this point I tried changing it again to WEP, and the same problem recurred. One last time with WPA2, and that's where I am now, except that I was pleased to find that my PDA, which had just been replaced under warranty, has some newer software in it and it now can accept my passkey (?)-- my airport code rather than the 64(?)-digit number version of it, so it's working, too.
But apparently Airport Utility has lost sight of the base station again. I don't need it for anything, but this is annoying. What's more curious, though, is what was happening when I chose WEP security.

  • Airport Utility does not see Airport Extreme Base Station

Purchased Airport Extreme yesterday at Apple Store to replace old Netgear Router. Wanted wireless network to work with 2 identical HP Laptops running XP with SP3 and 2 iPod touches, and possible future purchases of iPad 2 and Apple TV. Installed Airport Utility software from CD on Dell Studio running Windows 7. Connected Airport Extreme to cable modem and Dell Studio. Ran Airport Utility software to configure Base Station but it did not recognize the Base Station. Base Station had blinking amber light. Did have internet connectivity on Dell Studio, and wireless internet connectivity on 2 iPod touches, and on one HP Laptop. No wireless internet on other HP Laptop. But wireless internet connection was unsecured and Airport Utility did not see Airport Extreme so could not configure it to make it secure. Contacted Apple Customer support. After 30-40 minutes of attempting several different possible fixes only able to use Airport Utility to configure Airport Extreme remotely, wirelessly, from one HP Laptop, not the Dell Studio that is directly connected to the base station. Now that the base station is configured the network is secure. However, second HP Laptop cannot connect to primary wireless network. I created password protected "Guest" network using Airport Utility, and laptop is able to connect to this Guest network. From reviewing forums am now able to configure Airport Extreme with Airport Utility by using "Configure other" on Dell computer. But utility cannot find device by scanning. Would like to find way to (1) have Airport Utility on Windows 7 Dell see Airport Extreme by scanning and not using "configure other," and (2) have 2nd HP Laptop connect to primary network and not "guest' network. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Bob - Thanks so much for your quick reply. I followed your suggestions and, to go into perhaps unnecessary detail, I'll write what I did. I completely disconnected the Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS) from my computer. I disabled Windows Firewall, uninstalled my anti-virus program, and uninstalled Airport Utility and Bonjour, recycled by cable modem (took out the battery and unplugged it for about 20 seconds), then restarted my computer. After the computer booted up, I verified that windows firewall was disabled, reinstalled Airport Utility and Bonjour, then reconnected the cable connecting the AEBS to the computer (to one of the three ethernet ports, and I tried each of them in case one was faulty) but not to the cable modem as my firewall was disabled and had no anti-virus software. I also reconnected the AEBS power chord. I opened the newly reinstalled Airport Utility software and it did not find the base station. Only when I used "configure other" was I able to access the AEBS. I recycled the modem again, but that did not help. I turned on the firewall, installed anti-virus software, connected the AEBS to the modem, the light turned green, and I was able to access the internet on the primary computer and the wireless network gave me internet access on my laptops. But I was still not able to have my main computer, the one directly connected to the AEBS able to see it, and configure it, without utilizing "configure other."
Also, any idea why one of my laptops can only access the "guest" network? When it attempts to connect to the primary network it will stay on "acquiring network address" for what seems a few minutes, then switch to the "guest" network and connect immediately.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My airport utility does not find my airport express device

In order for the AirPort Utility on your iOS device to find the Express, both need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network. By default, the Express will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a network name of something like: Apple Network NNNNNN. Can you iOS device find this network?

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
In AirPort Utility how is your AirPort Extreme configured in the AirPort panel, Wireless tab, Radio Mode list? If it's set to 802.11n only the AirPort card in your G5 probably doesn't support that.

The Utility transferred all of the AE's settings, so I still have to change the password, which leaves me with only 2 other questions, I think:
    1)  I assume it's just a matter of using the Utility, entering a stronger password and checking for it to be remembered in Keychain Access.  But do I have to  change the password for each individual unit-- the TC, the Extreme and both Expresses-- or will changing it just for the TC alone work for the entire network?
Resetting the password you will need to do for each device... the utility cannot even see those old units.
So you will have to do it for each one.. think it through.. because as you change passwords the others will lose connection.. so start from the express which are wireless extending .. change those first.. and go back up the chain.. as each one changes it will drop off the network.. until you reach extreme and change that. Then you might need to reboot the whole network to get everything talking again. If something goes wrong.. just pluck that one out of the mix and plug in ethernet.. reset and redo the setup. That is my preferred method anyway.. do everything in isolation one by one. By ethernet and then nothing goes wrong.
    2)  Who's the treasonous SOB who spilled the beans to you about the ICBM in my back yard?!?
    N.Korean hackers.
[Edit] Whoops-- one more question:  I want to partition the TC's disk, but Disk Utility doesn't see it.  What do I need to do?
You cannot partition a network disk. And apple provided no tools for it in the TC itself. You can pull the disk out and partition it but that voids your warranty. (although done with care who is to know).
    Look at Q3 here.
    http://pondini.org/TM/Time_Capsule.html
Mixing TM and data on the TC is worth planning carefully. They don't necessarily sit happily together.

  • My airport utility can't find the airport device.

Everything is connected. I bought the device about eight months ago and have used it successfully to set up wireless networks twice. Now i have a DSL modem, and there was an error that the IP was in use. So i followed some tips online to reset both devices, restart, etc. Currently i have everything connected and plugged in, including with an extra ethernet cable from my laptop to the airport's wan port. However, NOW the airport utility can't find the device and it's just sitting there blinking amber slowly. The modem is all lit up and green and appears to be working. ***? is the airport express broken?

  • How do you upload firmware to Airport extreme with the following message: This version of AirPort Utility requires this AirPort Extreme use firmware version 7.3.1 or later. Use AirPort Utility 5.6 to update this base station. I'm using airport utility 6.0

The airport extreme at my parent's house has not had its firmware update in some time and it keeps dropping the internet connection and needing to be reset.
I went to update firmware and opened up airport utilities (I'm running airport 6.0 on Mountain Lion, 10.7.4).  Everytime I open the airport utility I get the following message: "
This version of AirPort Utility requires this AirPort Extreme use firmware version 7.3.1 or later. Use AirPort Utility 5.6 to update this base station. AirPort Utility 5.6 is available at AirPort Service and Support.
I've followed the link and tried to update firmwares but none are available and the print says that airport utility will look to see if firmware are available and load them as necessary when prompted by user.
One link said the only way to solve this problem is open up Airport Utility 5.6. I tried to do this, but 5.6 is not supported on Mountain Lion and couldn't be opened up.
I'm getting the exact same message on my other computer, a Mac Air.
So basically, can't download new firmware and am stuck with a ****** airport extreme that needs to keep being reset, a factory reset, in order to use the internet, but then continues to give me the same message.
    Thanks!
