Airport utility cannot find new time capsule

I have moved house and bought a new time capsule. The airport utility cannot find it. As context, I have successfully set up the new wi-fi network - should I use this to connect to the time capsule of my main wifi network ? I have also done a factory reset already. I think the cables are correctly plugged in - from the LAN output on my router to the WAN port on the TC - is this right ?

No, your cabled connection is far superior.
I have moved house and bought a new time capsule. The airport utility cannot find it.
Do you have iphone or ipad?? If so download the airport utility for iOS.. it is far superior to the Mac version.. and should be able to discover it.
If you need to do it from the Mac.. start over.. sorry .. yet another factory reset is helpful.. do it properly like this.
1. The Factory Reset universal
Unplug your TC/AE. Hold in reset. and power the TC/AE back on..  all without releasing reset and keep holding in for about 10sec. The time is not important.. it is the front LED rapid flashing that indicates you are in factory mode.
Release reset.
If it doesn’t flash rapidly you have released reset at some point and try again.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC/AE will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
2. Make sure ipv6 is set to link-local only.
3. After the reset the TC will appear in the WiFi as a new device. And in the Airport utility as Other Wi-Fi Devices (1) which you click.. from upper left corner of the AU.
4. No luck do it the hard way. Or what I should say.. is the exact manual method that brooks no exceptions due to lousy networking in Mavericks.
Plug the TC into the computer by ethernet.. make sure IPv6 is also set link-local only in the ethernet interface of the computer.. and simply do full manual setup. Turn wireless off in the computer. You can do this in full network isolation.. ie TC plugged into computer. Start with factory reset.. that is assumed before the following steps.
These are the steps for manual configuration.
1. Make sure you are getting an IP in the computer from the TC.. the router must show 10.0.1.1 after a reset. The computer will be 10.0.1.2
2. Open the airport utility and go to the top menu area. Open File / Configure Other.
3. Type in your IP address.. after a factory reset there is no password required. But if it complains it is public
Click ok.
4. You will then get the full edit screens where you can manually setup the TC to whatever you want.
5. For mavericks I strongly recommend changing to all SMB compatible names, ie short 2-20 characters.
No spaces and Pure alphanumeric.
eg
6. Use same rules for wireless. Set security to WPA2 Personal..
use a password of 10-20 characters mixed case and numbers... but still pure alphanumeric.
You can use a different name for 5ghz if you want.
You can also set channels at least for 2.4ghz I am not sure if 5ghz is relevant for AC models.

  • HT1178 my airport utility cannot find my Time Capsule

My time capsule is connected to my mac pro but in trying to set it up my Airport Utility cannot find it.

    Connected by ethernet?
    Airport turned off?
No other connections .. do it in complete isolation.
Do factory reset. That will not harm the backups at all. But it will get the TC functional if that is possible.
If you have issues.. please give us info on the ethernet setup in the computer.. it should be set to dhcp and get IP from the TC.. 10.0.1.2

  • My Airport Utility cannot find my time capsule.

I'm having problems to configure my time capsule!
I'm plugging by cable the TC, my internet moden and my Macbook pro in the correct places.
I read the manual and I did everything according to it.
After this error, I have to reset my TC to be able to find it on Airport Utility.
I already bought this Time Capsule with a broken cable that I changed in the Technical Assistance of Apple in Milan.
I bought this TC in New York, US and I'm trying to use in Milan, Italy.
Is the first time I'm having problems with an Apple product. And it's really hard to find answers for this problem.
Searching on internet, it's easy to find a lot o people dissatisfied with the TC.
    Thanks,
    Thiago

Lion with v6 airport utility.. is at least part if not all the problem.. download and install 5.6 utility.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Set up the computer and TC with no other connections.. just one ethernet between them. Be thankful you still have ethernet btw.. with it being dropped in new MBP.
Turn off the airport wireless in the mac... then try again.. use reset.. it will come available.. but don't be surprised if you need to reboot the computer and TC every couple of days.. that is the new feature of Mac OS .. just like windows.

  • Time Capsule flashes amber (slow) and not being picked up by Airport Utility; cannot set up Time Capsule

Airport Time Capsule purchased in Canada, trying to set up in home in Mexico.  Connected to isp via ethernet cable, tried resets and power off/on on both TC and isp modem.  TC flashes amber (slow), and is not picked up by Airport Utility on Macbook or iPad.  Do I have a faulty TC that has to be returned?  Wireless signal from provider is strong and reliable for last 5 yrs.  Please help

Got it figured :-)  Unable to pick up TC via Airport Utility on MacBook Pro or iPad. Used iPad via Settings-WiFi to pick up TC and enter edit functions. Once WAN deselected, Bridge selected, DHCP selected got the steady green light on the TC.  Airport utility now picks up the TC no problem on both iPad and Macbook.  System now fully operational.

  • Airport utility fails to detect time capsule

I'm sitting right beside the thing, so I know it isn't a distance problem. It's blinking orange, and cannot be found via search.

If AirPort Utility cannot "find" your Time Capsule after a few tries, (Did you power down both your computer and the Time Capsule and then power them back up?), your next option is to reset the Time Capsule back to factory default settings.
    Power down the Time Capsule
Hold in the reset button and keep holding it in as you plug the power back in to the Time Capsule
Release the reset button after 10 seconds
Reconfigure your Time Capsule. You can use the same name, password, etc as before if you wish.
The factory default reset will not harm or affect your existing backups

  • HT4145 Does this article apply to OS X Lion and Airport Utility 6.0?  Reason: Airport Utility cannot find my Airport Extreme (4th generation) wirelessly on my Time Capsule configured network even although the firmware in both units is up to date.

Reason: Airport Utility cannot find my Airport Extreme (4th generation) wirelessly on my Time Capsule configured network even although the firmware in both units is up to date.

I thought you were trying to Extend the network with an Express as the article mentions you pointed to...
You can't find the Airport Extreme then...
I woudl suggest doing a Factory reset....
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3728
Then you should be able to set it up just as you did when it was new....
Factory default reset (using reset button)
If the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule isn't accessible from AirPort Utility, the Factory Default reset can be accomplished by using the reset button.
Unplug the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule from power.
Press and hold the reset button with a pen or pencil, then plug the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule back in while continuing to hold the button until you see the light (LED) flash rapidly. This should happen after a few seconds.
Release the button. This will factory default reset the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule.

  • Cannot set up Time Machine because Airport Utility cannot find it.  What do I do now?

Sorry, I meant to say Airport Utility cannot find Time Capsule.  The TC is not listed as an available drive in the TM setings panel.  Trying to set up a MBP.  iMac TM settings panel lists TC but if I search for it from either machine, iMac or MBP it is not found.  Repeated rescanning doesn't find it.  Also trid Airport Utility from iPad and iPhone, still not found.  When I first purchased it I set it all up so I have logged into it before.  That was a couple of months ago, now I've got around to setting up TM I can't access it.  It is continuing to provide my wireless network though.

OK, turned off all devices, pulled the plug out of the TC, waited then plugged back in.  Started everything up again and Airport Utility can now find the TC.
Thanks to you both for trying to help.  Next time I'll try this first but it didn't seem like a very elegant Apple solution to the problem.

  • How can i connect my existing airport express to my new time capsule network?

I have an older airport express for wirelessly extending my network in my apartment. I bought a new Time Capsule and my airport express flashes amber and cannot find the time capsule to connect. How do I get them connected?

You can use the USB3 connections for USB2.  That's downward compatible.  Just runs at USB2 speed.
Just this week apple announced a couple of TB adapters, TB-to-ethernet and TB-to-firewire.  But the FW adapter is not at the apple store as yet (at least at the time I am posting this).

  • Airport utility cannot find my Airport Express, repeated rescans, nothing, even with direct connect via Ethernet. Help!

I use Airport Express to stream iTunes to my home stereo. This is the ONLY thing I use it for. It quit working and now Airport Utility cannot find the Airport Express unit, even after repeated re-boots of all components, resetting the Airport Express, even when connected directly to my router via Ethernet. I use a D-Link wirless router.
I downloaded the latest Airport Utility, but it will NOT work with XP (from the Apple website, not my words).
The Airport Express will achieve a solid green indicator after reset, but Airport Utility cannot find it. Until Utility can find and recognize the Airport Express hardware, I cannot adjust or reset any settings, etc.
    Help!

I downloaded the latest Airport Utility, but it will NOT work with XP (from the Apple website, not my words).
The latest version of AirPort Utility.....5.6.1.....will only run on a Windows 7 machine.
Try AirPort Utility 5.5.3 for Windows (make sure that  you have Service Pack 3 installed on your PC, otherwise the application will not run on an XP machine).
The Airport Express will achieve a solid green indicator after reset, but Airport Utility cannot find it.
After a "hard reset" or "factory default reset", the light will not be green.....it will be slowly flashing amber after it restarts. See this Apple support document for more information on various resets:

  • AirPort Utility cannot find TC

I'm having problems with connecting my Time Capsule with my Mac via ethernet cable. AirPort Utility cannot find the device, the Capsule is flashing amber only. I have tried to restart the device and modem but still no progress.. Do you know what might be the problem? I'm confused..

I am having the same problem. No matter how I attempt to connect TC (ie. Ethernet connected to Linksys Router or as the hub for my network connected directly to my cable modem) , it seems to start correctly (brief green light) then solid amber and I can hear the disk coming up to speed....and then Blinking Amber.
The really odd part is that it worked perfectly for the first month.
Obviously, Airport Utility can't find it!
It is the 1 TB model.
    Please, any suggestions?

  • Airport utility cannot find Extreme nor Express, but internet is working?

I have an airport extreme base station and and airport express (as a wireless extender and media speakers)
When my iMac wakes up from sleep, airport utility cannot find any devices.
    - internet works as usual
    - airplay doesn't work (via my ipod or my iphone)
    - apple TV 2 can't find the itunes library.
    - in system preferences -> network - my network seems to be all ok and when I turn off airport and on again, both devices suddenly appear in the airport utility. But when the iMac goes to sleep, same problem happens.
    - I have made ensured that my network is the preferred network but still the problem persists.
as the internet is working, there doesn't appear to be a problem. However, when airplay and apple TV are not working properly, this is a problem!
    Grateful for any help. Thanks.

My Airport utility cannot find my base station either, and I can't print. But I can access the Internet!
The base station just "vanished" one day after working perfectly for about two months. I first discovered this when I was unable to print - I began troubleshooting by entering the utility, only to discover the base station was not listed.
I finally deleted my networking settings in Vista, and then did a factory reset on the Aiport Extreme. I then set everything up from scratch again to successful resolution.
Then again one day a short time after that, it vanished again! In frustration, I disconnected Airport and put it away. I tried setting up a new Dlink I purchased to replace the Airport, but the Dlink didn't work either!!! Dlink tech support couldn't fix the problem and suggested I get my money back. I then, as a last ditch attempt, reconnected the Airport. It automatically found the base station without me doing anything besides just hooking it back up!
It worked for about two weeks and now it vanished again! The utility upgrade released the other day has not fixed this problem. I guess I'll delete networking connections again in Vista, and do a factory reset to Airport again.
I guess Airport and Vista just don't play well together.

  • Airport Utility cannot find my Extreme base station but everything works!

I must be going crazty, but I can't figure this one out. I've had my Extreme and Express configured since November of 2007. Airport Utility would always find them and let me look at the configuration. I don't believe that anything major has changed on my laptop. Today I went to run Airport Utility and it cannot find my 2 stations. Again, everything is working, I can surf the net, from various laptops throughout my house.
I had to do a factory reset to the extreme, and thankfully I remembered the 10.0.1.1/public and was able to reload a baseconfig I had. After this I still couldn't find the extreme nor the express with Airport Utility.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Why would Airport Utility stop finding my stations?
    Any help would be amazing.
    Thanks,
    Frank

  • Airport Utility cannot find AX base station

I can see that this is unfortunately a widespread problem, but I wonder if anyone has found a solution. I am running a wireless network with Airport Extreme and iMac (and several Windows laptops). Most of the time it's fine, but twice have I encountered that after shutting off modem and AX that the airport utility cannot find base station even though it is sitting right next to iMac. Also, all lights are solid green, both on modem and AX. I can find loads of other wireless networks, just not my own. No combination of resetting, restarting or reconnecting seems to do the trick and it get's very frustrating! If anyone has a solution, let me know.
    Thanks!

Have youi tried maybe running an Ethernet cable from the AX to the Base Station to establish the connection and then removing it (or reconfiguring the wireless network) ?

I have set up Time Capsule to use with Time Machine but when I open Time Machine it 'cannot find' the Time Capsule and I have to 'Select the Disk' each time. In the Next Backup tab it always says "When disk is connected" even though the disk is already connected.

Your pro doesn't matter.. I presume it is happily working.
Your imac setup has got messed up because you changed from a local (my book being USB type I presume) to network drive. Did you do a clean install of Lion?
Did you use the backup from the Pro on the imac? Otherwise I don't see how the Pro shows up in use previous disk. Where is Pondini when you need him??
You cannot download Time Machine as an App and replace the current version. It is built into the OS.. the only way to do it is a clean install. Unfortunately that might be the only way around the issue.
There is a number of issues that Pondini has covered in the setup issues of troubleshooting.
This is the most relevant I think. http://pondini.org/TM/B6.html
But look at the whole section B setup problems.
    http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
If it was me, I would store all the info you need.. not using TM but using a straight copy of files.
Then clean install Lion. I doubt any of these issues would exist if you had not installed Lion over existing setup or used a different backup.
See if you can get Pondini to respond.. !!

  • Airport utility cannot find base station

Hello. I upgraded to Leopard. I have normal internet access from airport extreme but airport utility cannot find my base station. How can I re-establish contact? Thanks

Which base station do you have?
The "AirPort Utility" is only compatible with the round 802.11b/gAirPort Extreme base station (AEBS), square 802.11b/g/n AEBS, and AirPort Express (AX).
It is not compatible with the older graphite 802.11b AirPort base station (ABS) nor the dual-Ethernet (aka "snow") ABS.
If you have a compatible base station, have you tried doing a reset on the base station and perhaps temporarily connect your computer via Ethernet to the base station?
