Airport Utility cannot find time capsule after new network

I created a new wireless network from my wireless router and then my time capsule started blinking yellow and airport utility can no longer find it. What can I do to fix this?

If you can connect temporarily to your Time Capsule with an Ethernet cable, AirPort Utility can probably see it and explain the problem.

  • Airport Utility cannot find Time Capsule and has a blinking amber light

I have a wireless router for my Wifi set up through AT&T (2WIRE). I am trying to add my TC to my existing network rather than establishing a new Wifi network with it. When I try to plug in my TC to set it up, Airport Utility cannot even find it. My TC has a blinking amber light also. I have tried reseting my TC, resetting my router, unplugging my router, unplugging my TC... I have the latest version of Air Port utility (6.2 (620.33)).

Connect the TC LAN port to the computer by ethernet.
If necessary do a reset of the TC so it shows up.
Put the TC into bridge mode.
Go to the wireless page, and set wireless to off.
Update the TC.. disconnect from the PC and plug WAN port to LAN port of the 2wire with ethernet.
The TC will now exist as a client in your network without creating a second wireless network.
You should also be able to access the TC via the airport utility.
I do think you should use the TC wireless since the 2wire does not provide a signal at 5ghz which is much faster than 2.4ghz.
So I do suggest you in fact do use the wireless but it is up to you.
It makes no difference having two wireless networks if they both connect back to the same router.
Do not use the "Join a wireless network" method.. ie no cable between the TC and 2wire.. that is poorest possible setup.

  • Wifi works but Airport Utility cannot find Time Capsule Device

I just upgraded my home network to a MacBook Air, with Lion OS, plus a 2TB Time Capsule running the wireless.   I have my DSL modem connected directly to my Time Capsule.    I also have a USB printer attached to the time capsule.   When first configuring everything all systems were a go.  Using the Airport utility in my Mac I was easily able to find and configure my Time Capsule.   I was also able to print wirelessly from my Mac to the USB printer.    All working as advertised.
However, after letting my computer go into sleep mode or sit for an extended period (more than an hour) the whole system blows up.    I am still able to access the interent through the wifi, however the Airport utility in my Mac no longer can see the Time Capsule, and my wireless printer says it is no longer connected.    The only way I have found to rectify the situation is to reboot the entire system (Mac, Time Capsule and Printer).   This is effective in returning the system back to normal, however this is not what I had in mind for my new Mac based wireless system.

  • Airport utility cannot find time capsule

    Hi
I had set up time capsule  to work with airport facility ...it was working and then  I tried to  set it up for a printer  ...now it it wont  find  timecapsule.... The airport facility will not let me in to try to make changes....
I am running on Lion and have done all the latest updates
    Thanks

    Do the setup in isolation..
Plug the TC directly into the Mac..
Turn off any airport connection so you only have the TC plugged in ethernet to LAN port <->
If the airport utility still cannot find the TC.. reset it to factory.
Then set the TC into bridge and do the wireless setup..
update the TC then plug it back into the router..
All setups should be done by ethernet all the time.

  • Airport utility cannot find time capsule unless I reboot each time I need to back up. Use snow leopard

Why do I have to reboot the time capsule every time that time machine calls for a back-up?

Constant amber LED is nothing to do with network.. it actually is showing the TC is actually got a bad power supply or the disk is dead.
Power it off.. and do a full factory reset.
    The Factory Reset universal
Unplug your TC/AE. Hold in reset. and power the TC/AE back on..  all without releasing reset and keep holding in for about 10sec. The time is not important.. it is the front LED rapid flashing that indicates you are in factory mode.
    Release reset.
If it doesn’t flash rapidly you have released reset at some point and try again.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC/AE will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
Then you can see if it boots beyond the solid amber.. if not let it cool right down for several hours and try again.
    What model exactly is it??

  • AirPort utility cant find Time Capsule

I have trouble connecting to my TC. I've got the newest version of airport utility. I've connected the ethernet cable to the Wan port and plugged in the TC. The strange thing is that I'm now connected to internet but the AirPort utility cant find the Time Capsule (and the light flashes amber).

Thank you, that solved this problem for me:
    Problem:
I factory reset two 3T time capsules. Now airport utility can't fid them. "No configured AirPort base stations have been found." I've performed all of the following:
    Power cycled the time capsules
Restarted the Mac Mini they are attached too
    Reperformed the  factory reset
Configured the IPv6 in the network settings to "Link-local only"
Designated a router address manually for the ethernet port these time capsules are connected to.
FYI: I have two 3T time capsules daisy chained to a mac mini server on a company LAN. Connected by a USB-ethernet connection.
    Solution:
    Tuned MacMini Server's WiFi "ON"
Verified network setting IPv6 was set to "Link-Local only"
    Disadvantage:
I had the MacMini Server set up as a wifi hot spot so guests could use the internet through it and access our shared server to move files. We no longer have that ability since the MacMini now has to be logged into the company wireless.

  • Time Machine cannot find Time Capsule after turning auto backups off

2010 macbook 7,1 OSX 10.6.8.  Brand new rev.4 Time Capsule 2TB (MD032LL/A) just bought yesterday.
Everything set up just fine and wireless is working.  Backups are working.
Issue is that as soon as I turn the Time Machine slider to Off (I can turn it back to On at this point, doesn't matter once it's been in the Off position) in TIme Machine preferences, then try and Enter Time Machine or do a backup, it cannot find the Time Capsule (says cannot find backup volume or such).  I have to reselect the drive even though it's icon is showing right on the preferences screen.  A reboot will enable it to find the Time Capsule without my input.
If I leave Time Machine turned on, the backups run fine and I can enter the Time Machine.  It is turning off Time Machine that triggers the issue.
    Tried the following:
      -Rebooted Time Capsule
-Made sure Time Capsule name is less than 27 characters (it is 19)
      -Firewall is off
      -Filevaullt is off
      -Booted into Safe Mode
      -Repaired permissions
      -Trashed TIme Machine plist
      -Updated OSX
At this point I called Applecare and they had me send them a capture of my TIme Machine data and will get back to me Monday.
Oddly, my 10.5.8 iMac G5 2ghz is working fine with Time Machine and does not have this issue.  I can turn Time Machine off and on all I want and it can find the Time Capsule with no problem.
    Thanks for any help.

Apple is still working on the issue but I have now noticed that I cannot VNC into my work PC anymore.  I get a "Could not connect to server, connection refused:5900"
I am using Chicken of the VNC and it worked fine until I got the Time Capsule.  I know that 5900 is the port used for something and this sounds like it is related to the Time Capsule.
I can't help but think this is also related to the "Cannot find backup disk" message from Time Machine.  This all sounds like the Time Capsule goofed up the works here.
Also, I now have tons of reports in the console of it not being able to count items in a file at system/library/StartupItems.  That folder is NOT there. Which is why I assume the errors.  I have seen a few other reports and people are just restoring the file from Time Machine or making it via command line with admin.  When I go back far enough in Time Machine, the file IS there but has nothing in it.
I asked Apple about that too and they checked a 10.6.8 computer and it had the file so not sure what is up there.  Not sure if it was 10.6.8 update or the bunch of iTunes, etc that I did after that.
Have not restored that file yet, will wait to see what they say about the Time Capsule mess.
Any ideas on restoring my VNC connection?

  • Airport Utility not recognizing Time Capsule after Airport Extreme Update08

After installing the Airport Extreme Update 2008 my Time Capsule keeps crashing. I have powered down both my DSL modem and the Time Capsule, done a hard reset of the Time Capsule and yet it continues to flash amber lights. Yesterday, after hours of resetting everything and finally getting a green light and an internet connection, today my network and all of the airport setting have completely disappeared. Is anyone else having this problem and if so, have you found a solution? Is there a way to uninstall this updates as I believe it has caused these issues?

  • HT1178 scan cannot find time capsule for new set up

I have connected airport time capsule with ethernet cable direct to the computer, but the scan for the new time capsule comes up with nothing.
Can anyone suggest a way to scan manually when manual scan button is greyed out.
    Thanks

Unfortunately, if you check the Specification page for the System Requirements for the new Time Capsule, it reads like this:
    Setup and Administration
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 6 or later and AirPort Utility 1.3
         or
Mac with OS X Lion v10.7.5 or later and AirPort Utility 6.3
    http://www.apple.com/airport-time-capsule/specs/
So, if you have a new Time Capsule, you will not be able to use 10.6.8 to set it up and administer it.
If you have an iPhone or iPad handy, that could be used to set up the new Time Capsule.
If not, then you will need to upgrade your Mac to at least Lion (10.7.5) or higher.

  • Parallels Win7 - Airport Utility cannot see Time Capsule

Running Win7 as virtual machine on Mac using Parallels 5.0. Mac can see fully functioning time capsule but when I switch to Win7 virtual machine, airport utility will briefly see time capsule and then it disappears completely. Same happens with using bonjour printer wizard when the HP Laserjet connected via USB to the time capusle will first appear and then disappear after 5-8 seconds. Searched help forums and have not found a solution, and welcome any help please. Internet access via time capsule on Win7 virtual machine not a problem at all.

Same issue, I found this http://forum.parallels.com/showthread.php?t=21064

  • Airport utility cannot find time machine

Time Machine has orange flashing light and when I try to turn it on in system preferences, the computer scans for airport devices but finds none.

Have you do a reboot of the TC.. that will often fix things.
ie pull out the power cord.. count to 10.. plug in the power cord.. wait a minute for things to boot.
    Does it show up now?
Or a full network reboot.. restart in correct order.. modem.. TC.. clients. 2min gap.
No luck then do a full factory reset of the TC.
ie pull out the power cord.
    hold in reset button.
plug in the power cord. Do not release reset.
Front LED flashes rapidly after about 10sec. Release reset.
Wait for TC to boot up.
Use ethernet to computer to redo the setup.
Use all SMB names.. ie Short, 10-20 characters fine .. less is great.
    No spaces.
    Pure alphanumeric.
Nothing on the hard disk will change. But you might need to reset Time Machine and rediscover the backups.

  • Cannot set up Time Machine because Airport Utility cannot find it.  What do I do now?

Sorry, I meant to say Airport Utility cannot find Time Capsule.  The TC is not listed as an available drive in the TM setings panel.  Trying to set up a MBP.  iMac TM settings panel lists TC but if I search for it from either machine, iMac or MBP it is not found.  Repeated rescanning doesn't find it.  Also trid Airport Utility from iPad and iPhone, still not found.  When I first purchased it I set it all up so I have logged into it before.  That was a couple of months ago, now I've got around to setting up TM I can't access it.  It is continuing to provide my wireless network though.

OK, turned off all devices, pulled the plug out of the TC, waited then plugged back in.  Started everything up again and Airport Utility can now find the TC.
Thanks to you both for trying to help.  Next time I'll try this first but it didn't seem like a very elegant Apple solution to the problem.

  • Airport utility cannot find my Airport Express, repeated rescans, nothing, even with direct connect via Ethernet. Help!

I use Airport Express to stream iTunes to my home stereo. This is the ONLY thing I use it for. It quit working and now Airport Utility cannot find the Airport Express unit, even after repeated re-boots of all components, resetting the Airport Express, even when connected directly to my router via Ethernet. I use a D-Link wirless router.
I downloaded the latest Airport Utility, but it will NOT work with XP (from the Apple website, not my words).
The Airport Express will achieve a solid green indicator after reset, but Airport Utility cannot find it. Until Utility can find and recognize the Airport Express hardware, I cannot adjust or reset any settings, etc.
    Help!

I downloaded the latest Airport Utility, but it will NOT work with XP (from the Apple website, not my words).
The latest version of AirPort Utility.....5.6.1.....will only run on a Windows 7 machine.
Try AirPort Utility 5.5.3 for Windows (make sure that  you have Service Pack 3 installed on your PC, otherwise the application will not run on an XP machine).
The Airport Express will achieve a solid green indicator after reset, but Airport Utility cannot find it.
After a "hard reset" or "factory default reset", the light will not be green.....it will be slowly flashing amber after it restarts. See this Apple support document for more information on various resets:

  • Airport utility cannot find new time capsule

I have moved house and bought a new time capsule. The airport utility cannot find it. As context, I have successfully set up the new wi-fi network - should I use this to connect to the time capsule of my main wifi network ? I have also done a factory reset already. I think the cables are correctly plugged in - from the LAN output on my router to the WAN port on the TC - is this right ?

As context, I have successfully set up the new wi-fi network - should I use this to connect to the time capsule of my main wifi network ?
No, your cabled connection is far superior.
I have moved house and bought a new time capsule. The airport utility cannot find it.
Do you have iphone or ipad?? If so download the airport utility for iOS.. it is far superior to the Mac version.. and should be able to discover it.
If you need to do it from the Mac.. start over.. sorry .. yet another factory reset is helpful.. do it properly like this.
    2. Make sure ipv6 is set to link-local only.
    3. After the reset the TC will appear in the WiFi as a new device. And in the Airport utility as Other Wi-Fi Devices (1) which you click.. from upper left corner of the AU.
    4. No luck do it the hard way. Or what I should say.. is the exact manual method that brooks no exceptions due to lousy networking in Mavericks.
Plug the TC into the computer by ethernet.. make sure IPv6 is also set link-local only in the ethernet interface of the computer.. and simply do full manual setup. Turn wireless off in the computer. You can do this in full network isolation.. ie TC plugged into computer. Start with factory reset.. that is assumed before the following steps.
These are the steps for manual configuration.
    1. Make sure you are getting an IP in the computer from the TC.. the router must show 10.0.1.1 after a reset. The computer will be 10.0.1.2
    2. Open the airport utility and go to the top menu area. Open File / Configure Other.
    3. Type in your IP address.. after a factory reset there is no password required. But if it complains it is public
    Click ok.
    4. You will then get the full edit screens where you can manually setup the TC to whatever you want.
    5. For mavericks I strongly recommend changing to all SMB compatible names, ie short 2-20 characters.
    No spaces and Pure alphanumeric.
    eg
    6. Use same rules for wireless. Set security to WPA2 Personal..
use a password of 10-20 characters mixed case and numbers... but still pure alphanumeric.
You can use a different name for 5ghz if you want.
You can also set channels at least for 2.4ghz I am not sure if 5ghz is relevant for AC models.

  • HT1178 Airport utility cannot find Airport Time Capsule base station

I just purchased the new AirPort Time Capsule 2TB and after trying to set it up with my MAC I realized that the AirPort utility software was old and instead tried setting it up with my ipad that has iOS 6.1.3. However eventhow I remain connected in the internet, I cannot find any base station with the updated AirPort utility. Reseting Time Capsule and modem has not helped. Has anyone else had the same problem and how have you solved it?

Sorry, can you please clarify, and provide a bit more information?
You can "see" the Time Capsule using your iPad, but not using AirPort Utility on your Mac, correct?
If yes, what version of AirPort Utility do you have on your Mac?  If you are not sure, open AirPort Utility, click the AirPort Utility menu in the upper left corner of the screen and click About AirPort Utility.
Post back with the version number that you see there.
