Airport Utility cant find devices

Very bizarre.  iMac can see all devices.  yet, the APU on my MBP, which is right beside the iMac  - CANNOT FIND ANY!!
What the heck is going on?

Thanks Hackintosh.  I got it going.  It would be enormously helpful if Apple would list the most current software necessary for the Airport Extreme FIRST when you search for downloads.  But that would be too easy.
Thanks,

  • Airport utility cant find airport extreme 802.11

Bought a 802.11 today.  Didnt come with a CD and so downloaded Aiport Utility 5.4.1 for windows.  I am using the dang router right now since I am on the internet.  Its amber light is flashing.  The Airport Utility cant find any Apple wireless devices.  Hmm.  Help.  Do I need to download something other than 5.4.1?  When I put in 802.11 utility all I get back is a bunch of patches...Help.

  • AirPort utility cant find Time Capsule

I have trouble connecting to my TC. I've got the newest version of airport utility. I've connected the ethernet cable to the Wan port and plugged in the TC. The strange thing is that I'm now connected to internet but the AirPort utility cant find the Time Capsule (and the light flashes amber).

Thank you, that solved this problem for me:
    Problem:
I factory reset two 3T time capsules. Now airport utility can't fid them. "No configured AirPort base stations have been found." I've performed all of the following:
    Power cycled the time capsules
Restarted the Mac Mini they are attached too
    Reperformed the  factory reset
Configured the IPv6 in the network settings to "Link-local only"
Designated a router address manually for the ethernet port these time capsules are connected to.
FYI: I have two 3T time capsules daisy chained to a mac mini server on a company LAN. Connected by a USB-ethernet connection.
    Solution:
    Tuned MacMini Server's WiFi "ON"
Verified network setting IPv6 was set to "Link-Local only"
    Disadvantage:
I had the MacMini Server set up as a wifi hot spot so guests could use the internet through it and access our shared server to move files. We no longer have that ability since the MacMini now has to be logged into the company wireless.

  • Airport utility cant find my new airport

    Hello.
I got a new airport extreme N base station, and i currently already have one in my study (i plan on extending my network).
the first time i turned the new airport on, Airport utility located it immediately. i then used the wizard to try and make it join my network (named Bluenet)
but then it said error. and since then my utility cant locate the new airport base station. even when converted back to factory settings.
can anyone help me with my problem? and possibly also give me a crash course in extending the network.
    thank you.
    Merry christmas

place the secondary router in bridge mode then configure your wireless. Either create or extend. The trick now is to get AU recognizing that new router. Try using an ethernet cable to re-find that new router.

  • Airport Utility cant find AE during scan, but it works...

I have my AE setup in in "bridge" mode connected to my network via ethernet that makes its connection to my d-link router via powerline adapters (the powerline adapters get over 100mbps and work very well for streaming to my BoxeeBox).
I have 2 wireless networks in my place, the AE 2.4ghz and my D-link's 5.0ghz. My iPad and iPhone can see the AE when connected to either wireless network and play music to my stereo without a problem.
The issue is my Win7 latop, the Airport Express utility found the AE upon initial setup but since then finds nothing when trying to scan. I have to manualy enter the IP address and password for the AE setting page to come up. The iTunes on my Win7 laptop also has touble seeing the AE. It worked on the first day when I had just finished the intial setup but now it no longer gives me the choice in the bottom right corner..
I dont understant how the AE works perfectly with my iPad and iPhone even while connected to the Wireless network of my D-link router (meaning the powerline connecting is not causing an issue) but my Win7 laptop has trouble detecting it automaticly.
Is there a way in iTunes to manualy enter the IP address of the AE so it can maintain a connection? And why does the Airport Utility have so much trouble finding the AE? (btw my Win7 laptop is connected to my D-link Router via ethernet when i trying to scan for the AE)
    thanks

but when I pull up airport utility it can't seem to find the airport extreme.
    Close AirPort Utility
Hold in the reset button on the back of the AirPort Extreme for 9-10 seconds and release.
Allow a full minute for the AirPort Extreme to restart
Click on the fan shaped AirPort icon at the top of the Mac's screen
Wait a few seconds for a listing of New AirPort Base Station to appear
Just below that, click directly on AirPort Extreme
(The example below shows an AirPort Express)
AirPort Setup will open automatically and walk you through the configuration
If you want to use the iPhone......
Hard Reset the AirPort Exteme as above
Tap Settings on the iPhone's home screen
    Tap WiFi
Under the heading of Set up an AirPort Base Station, tap on AirPort Extreme

  • Airport Utility cant find anything after upgrade to 7.3.1

After a very stressful morning getting my TC working with my Express as a remote i was then prompted to update my firmware to 7.3.1. when the TC restarted it disappeared from the Airport Utility as did the Express and I can no longer get it to see either of them. Any Ideas please

If you reboot the TC and keep an eye on the Aiport Utility, does it appear for a short time before disappearing?
If so, it sounds like you've been affected by the same issue as many of us have, which appears to be linked to the recent updates. Some people have had success by resetting their TC to default settings and reconfiguring it. There's a few posts on this on the first page which might give you some more info.

  • Airport Utility cannot find Apple Wireless Devices, yet I'm online!

I'm trying to enter in my SSID number for my kid's Wii to get it online, and I've tried to run through their tutorial. It tells me to go to Airport Utility and find my base station. Here's the deal, it says it cannot find my wireless device. And yet here I sit, complaining about it online.
How can I be online yet the computer not recognize it?

I finally just hooked up an ethernet connection and it works fine. I think the problem all along was the airport card in my iMac. I currently have my question about my airport card as a reply to another post from someone having a similar issue.

  • HT4587 Utility cant find the airport express, windows8

Utility cant find the airport express, windows8

3 common causes when this occurs:
    1) The Windows FireWall is blocking the connection attempt between AirPort Utility and the AirPort Express
    2) The PC anti-virus software is doing the same thing
    3) Microsoft Security Essentials....if installed...is doing the same thing
Check the settings in each application to see if a "block" is occuring, so you can make an "exception" or "allow" the connection to occur.
It might help to try a direct connection from an Ethernet port on the PC to a LAN <-> port on the AirPort Express. If you can configure the Express this way, you can disconnect the Ethernet cable once the Express has been set up.
Although primarily used for printer communications, it is a good idea to install Bonjour for Windows, as Bonjour may help communicatons on the network.

Are you using the latest version (5.5.2) of the AirPort Utility to access the new 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn)? Your tagline has it that you are running OS X 10.4.6. You would need at least 10.5.7 to run the utility. I assume that you are running the latest utility on another device ... correct?
When having difficulties accessing the AirPort thru the AirPort Utility, try the following, in order checking accessibility with the utility after each step:
o Check the local connection. If you are trying to access the AirPort wirelessly, make sure that you are connected to its wireless network before running the AirPort Utility to administer it. If you are still unable to access it with the utility, temporarily connect your computer directly using an Ethernet cable to one of the base station's LAN ports.
o Power cycle the base station. Remove the power adapter's plug from the power outlet, and then, wait 15 seconds before plugging it back in.
o Perform a "factory default" reset on the base station.

  • Airport Utility cannot find my Airport express on Windows 7

I have a working Airport express with a static ip address.  The static ip address has been hard coded in my main router.  The airport express is connected to my network via ethernet cable. Airport Express Version 7.6.1.  I am having conectivity issues from my new Windows Desktop.  The airport utility 5.6.1 on my new desktop cannot find my airport express.  The manual setup button has been greyed out.  I can ping the device.  I can click on "configure other" and configure the airport-express (which is how I set it up).    If I reboot my desktop and then quickly fire up the airport utility, it finds the device.  On hitting rescan, in a few minutes everything gets greyed out again.
The airport utiltity on other computers is able to find that airport express.   I am able to stream music through the airport express from other computers in the network.
How do I find out what is blocking the airport utility on my new desktop.  The Bonjour Service is up and running.   Any help/advice on trouble shooting this issue is appreciated.

The airport utiltity on other computers is able to find that airport express.   I am able to stream music through the airport express from other computers in the network.
You only need one computer on the network to access the settings in the AirPort, so unless you like to look for things, it is probably not worth the effort to try to troubleshoot the blocking action on the Windows 7 machine.
It is not always the Windows Firewall and/or the anti-virus program that blocks connection attempts like this, but that would be the first place to look.
In general, you have to get into the Firewall settings to create an "exception" for the AirPort connection. The same would be true for the anti-virus if that is what is blocking the connection attempt between the PC and AirPort.

  • AirPort Utility cannot find TC

I'm having problems with connecting my Time Capsule with my Mac via ethernet cable. AirPort Utility cannot find the device, the Capsule is flashing amber only. I have tried to restart the device and modem but still no progress.. Do you know what might be the problem? I'm confused..

I am having the same problem. No matter how I attempt to connect TC (ie. Ethernet connected to Linksys Router or as the hub for my network connected directly to my cable modem) , it seems to start correctly (brief green light) then solid amber and I can hear the disk coming up to speed....and then Blinking Amber.
The really odd part is that it worked perfectly for the first month.
Obviously, Airport Utility can't find it!
It is the 1 TB model.
    Please, any suggestions?

  • Airport utility cannot find Extreme nor Express, but internet is working?

I have an airport extreme base station and and airport express (as a wireless extender and media speakers)
When my iMac wakes up from sleep, airport utility cannot find any devices.
    - internet works as usual
    - airplay doesn't work (via my ipod or my iphone)
    - apple TV 2 can't find the itunes library.
    - in system preferences -> network - my network seems to be all ok and when I turn off airport and on again, both devices suddenly appear in the airport utility. But when the iMac goes to sleep, same problem happens.
    - I have made ensured that my network is the preferred network but still the problem persists.
as the internet is working, there doesn't appear to be a problem. However, when airplay and apple TV are not working properly, this is a problem!
    Grateful for any help. Thanks.

My Airport utility cannot find my base station either, and I can't print. But I can access the Internet!
The base station just "vanished" one day after working perfectly for about two months. I first discovered this when I was unable to print - I began troubleshooting by entering the utility, only to discover the base station was not listed.
I finally deleted my networking settings in Vista, and then did a factory reset on the Aiport Extreme. I then set everything up from scratch again to successful resolution.
Then again one day a short time after that, it vanished again! In frustration, I disconnected Airport and put it away. I tried setting up a new Dlink I purchased to replace the Airport, but the Dlink didn't work either!!! Dlink tech support couldn't fix the problem and suggested I get my money back. I then, as a last ditch attempt, reconnected the Airport. It automatically found the base station without me doing anything besides just hooking it back up!
It worked for about two weeks and now it vanished again! The utility upgrade released the other day has not fixed this problem. I guess I'll delete networking connections again in Vista, and do a factory reset to Airport again.
I guess Airport and Vista just don't play well together.

  • Cannot set up Time Machine because Airport Utility cannot find it.  What do I do now?

Sorry, I meant to say Airport Utility cannot find Time Capsule.  The TC is not listed as an available drive in the TM setings panel.  Trying to set up a MBP.  iMac TM settings panel lists TC but if I search for it from either machine, iMac or MBP it is not found.  Repeated rescanning doesn't find it.  Also trid Airport Utility from iPad and iPhone, still not found.  When I first purchased it I set it all up so I have logged into it before.  That was a couple of months ago, now I've got around to setting up TM I can't access it.  It is continuing to provide my wireless network though.

OK, turned off all devices, pulled the plug out of the TC, waited then plugged back in.  Started everything up again and Airport Utility can now find the TC.
Thanks to you both for trying to help.  Next time I'll try this first but it didn't seem like a very elegant Apple solution to the problem.

  • Airport utility cannot find new time capsule

I have moved house and bought a new time capsule. The airport utility cannot find it. As context, I have successfully set up the new wi-fi network - should I use this to connect to the time capsule of my main wifi network ? I have also done a factory reset already. I think the cables are correctly plugged in - from the LAN output on my router to the WAN port on the TC - is this right ?

As context, I have successfully set up the new wi-fi network - should I use this to connect to the time capsule of my main wifi network ?
No, your cabled connection is far superior.
I have moved house and bought a new time capsule. The airport utility cannot find it.
Do you have iphone or ipad?? If so download the airport utility for iOS.. it is far superior to the Mac version.. and should be able to discover it.
If you need to do it from the Mac.. start over.. sorry .. yet another factory reset is helpful.. do it properly like this.
    1. The Factory Reset universal
Unplug your TC/AE. Hold in reset. and power the TC/AE back on..  all without releasing reset and keep holding in for about 10sec. The time is not important.. it is the front LED rapid flashing that indicates you are in factory mode.
    Release reset.
If it doesn’t flash rapidly you have released reset at some point and try again.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC/AE will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
    2. Make sure ipv6 is set to link-local only.
    3. After the reset the TC will appear in the WiFi as a new device. And in the Airport utility as Other Wi-Fi Devices (1) which you click.. from upper left corner of the AU.
    4. No luck do it the hard way. Or what I should say.. is the exact manual method that brooks no exceptions due to lousy networking in Mavericks.
Plug the TC into the computer by ethernet.. make sure IPv6 is also set link-local only in the ethernet interface of the computer.. and simply do full manual setup. Turn wireless off in the computer. You can do this in full network isolation.. ie TC plugged into computer. Start with factory reset.. that is assumed before the following steps.
These are the steps for manual configuration.
    1. Make sure you are getting an IP in the computer from the TC.. the router must show 10.0.1.1 after a reset. The computer will be 10.0.1.2
    2. Open the airport utility and go to the top menu area. Open File / Configure Other.
    3. Type in your IP address.. after a factory reset there is no password required. But if it complains it is public
    Click ok.
    4. You will then get the full edit screens where you can manually setup the TC to whatever you want.
    5. For mavericks I strongly recommend changing to all SMB compatible names, ie short 2-20 characters.
    No spaces and Pure alphanumeric.
    eg
    6. Use same rules for wireless. Set security to WPA2 Personal..
use a password of 10-20 characters mixed case and numbers... but still pure alphanumeric.
You can use a different name for 5ghz if you want.
You can also set channels at least for 2.4ghz I am not sure if 5ghz is relevant for AC models.
