Airport utility doesn't find Airport express?

I have recently updated my laptop to one using Windows 7 (all worked fine on old laptop using windows vista) & installed relevent software etc and all works fine untill i shut down the laptop. When i come to use laptop / Airport express again Airport utility wont find the Airport express unless i unplug & plug back in the Airport express! All then works fine until i shutdown again, basically it doesn't seem to hold / store the information once the laptop is shutdown. Any help welcome please, thanks.

Thanks for the update - I would recommend a factory reset of the Express and then do the setup again and accept the defaults - to do this, unplug the Express and plug it back in while holding in the reset button with a paperclip - when the light starts blinking, release the button - wait until the light blinks slowly which indicates that the Express is in factory mode - you can then start from scratch using the assist me feature of the Airport Utility - you probably already know this but there are several things that you must keep in mind the first is that you cannot extend a non Apple network wirelessly - you can do it via ethernet and "create" a network with the same name and security type as the router or create a new wirless network with a new name - but the only thing that you can do wirelessly is create an access point to connect remote devices to the Express via ethernet - and any Apple device connected to a non Apple router would have to be in bridge mode -

  • AirPort Utility doesn't find my AirPort Express but wireless still works

I'm having problems configuring my AirPort Express. My main computer is a desktop running Windows XP and is connected to the internet via a Netgear router. I have the AirPort wired to the same router. I used the AirPort Utility to set up the AirPort originally but now the utility program can't find the AirPort. The wireless is still working as my macbook can still connect to the internet and the green light on the AirPort remains on. The macbook can also use the AirTunes function of iTunes while the desktop cannot. I've updated AirPort Utility to the most recent version without any luck. I assume its more to do with the router but I'm far from a network expert. Any ideas? Thanks.

I'm having this exact same problem. I am using an HP notebook computer running Windows XP. My computer can connect just fine via wireless to the Airport Express. However, the Airport Utility cannot see the Airport Express no matter what I try. I have downloaded all the latest versions of software. I have tried doing a soft reset of the Airport Express. I have tried doing a hard reset of the Airport Express. I have tried resetting Airport Express defaults back to factory settings. I have tried connecting to Airport Express via Ethernet cable attached to my router. I have tried configuring a fixed IP address in the same range as the default IP address settings for the Airport Express. None of this gives me the ability for the Airport Utility to see the Airport Express. Any help please.

  • Airport Utility can't find Airport Express after setting up as repeater station

I wanted to extend my 2Wire-based wireless network into a specific room that never seems to be able to pick up the signal, and found the following instructions on how to do so on Apple's website:
(note: these instructions were submitted by another user in response to a question as to whether or not an Airport Express could be used as a repeater station for non-Airport Extreme-based wireless networks - linked here http://store.apple.com/us/question/answers/product/MB321LL/A?pqid=QY4CAJJC7KFTTD KYH72DKPXF4CAUA9D4J).
Yes, you can do this two ways:  If you can connect your airport express to your router via ethernet, then you will perform the following steps in the airport utility:
    1.  Select your airport express.
    2.  Select manual set up.
    3.  Under Wireless, select Participate in a WDS network
    4.  Enter your network name, radio mode, channel, and security
    5.  Under WDS, select WDS main
    6.  Check wireless clients
    7.  Add the MAC address of the router
    8.  Click update
    That's it
Now, if you connect your airport express to your router wirelessly, all the steps are the same except for step 5.  In this step, select WDS remote instead.  Everything else is the same.
I followed those instructions exactly with my Airport Express and, after restarting, the amber light is flashing on and off continuously and the Airport Utility can't find the Airport Extreme base station. What the heck went wrong here?

    Update:
I restarted the laptop I used to set up the AX as well as pushing the "reset" button on the AX (first time - pressed it for 1 second, Second Time - pressed and held for 15 seconds then let go). The Utility still isn't recognizing the base station.
I also upgraded the Utility's software to 5.5.3 right before I went through these steps, and now it's not recognizing the base station. ARGH.
Update #2: I plugged the AX into my laptop with an ethernet cable and the utility STILL can't detect it. This is ridiculous.
Update #3: Not 30 seconds after update #2, it FOUND the **** AX >.< I'm updating the firmware, but I still can't get it to work as a repeater station if I have to plug it into my laptop all the time JUST to get the Utility to recognize that yes, Virginia, there IS an Airport Extreme.

  • Admin utility doesn't find airport

Here's my setup. I'm using the Airport as a wireless client to connect to my stereo so I can stream music from iTunes. I have one PC connected to the network by Ethernet to the router. I have another PC connected to the network by wireless. On the Ethernet PC the Airport admin utility doesn't find the Airport automatically. But I can enter the IP address and password for the Airport and it is found and I can change the settings. But iTunes on the Ethernet PC does not find the remote speakers. I have the option turned on to look for remote speakers in iTunes. And the Airport is working because iTunes on the wireless PC finds the remote speakers and streams music just fine. I've also opened up ports 5353, 5298, and 5009 on the PC's firewall. Why can't iTunes find the remote speakers on the Ethernet PC?
      Windows XP

Thanks for the reply. I should have explained my network setup better. I have a Linksys BEFSR41 router that the Ethernet PC is plugged into. There is a Linksys WAP54G access point plugged into the router. I have two PCs connected to the network through the wireless access point. iTunes on both of those PCs can find the Airport and share their libraries. iTunes on the PC connected directly to the router cannot find the Airport or the other libraries. Although the network connection to the Airport works because I can enter the IP address of the Airport in the admin utility and the config utility works.
I also tried connecting a laptop that normally connects wirelessly directly to the router. And iTunes could not find the Airport. So I'm guessing it is something with the router or that the Airport doesn't work with wired clients. I don't think it is the firewall because I have the same firewall with the same settings on all 3 PCs.

  • Airport Utility doesn't find my Time Capsule.

I bought a 2TB Time Capsule to use as a wireless hard drive and as my time capsule.  (Originally I was going to buy an airport and plug in a hard drive but the guys at the store said that TC would accomplish the same thing.)  I have never been able to get my MBP to connect to the TC.  The airport utility says "No configured AirPort base stations have been found."  But I never even got a chance to configure the base station with the MBP.
What I've tried to do so far:
I have my TC hooked up to a FiOS router (WAN port) and then the TC hooked up via an Ethernet cord to my MBP.  Still no luck.  I've upgraded to Mountain Lion to make sure everything is up-to-date and still no luck.  Then I bought a USB cord and plugged that into the TC and Mac and reset the TC.  It found that but set up a new network on an Ethernet.  (Which then knocked me off line.)  I am not looking for a new network connection, just want to back up my files and store my media files on the TC.  (I have reset the TC every time I tried a new "fix".)
I would be very thankful for any advice because I am beyond frustrated.
    Thanks.

    Try this:
Unplug all ethernet and USB cords and reset your TC.  Connect to your TC using WiFi from your computer, then run Airport Utility (alternative would be to connect an ethernet cable to your TC just for this setup).  Select your TC in Airport Utility, then click on Network.  Select Router Mode as Off (Bridge Mode).  Then go to the Wireless tab and select Network Mode as off (note if you are connected via WiFi once you update the settings you will be kicked off since the TC WiFi will have been turned off).
After doing this you should then be able plug an ethernet cable into the WAN port of the TC into the ethernet port of the FiOS and then use the Wireless connection on the FiOS to access the Time Capsule hard drive.  Honestly you should be able to do all this with the TC already connected to the FiOS but since it apparently isn't working this should work.  Please post back if it doesn't.

  • Installed the latest update, now Airport Utility doesn't see Airport

I ran the latest update, now my Airport Utility claims to not see my Airport Extreme although I'm still on my network.? Any suggestions before I completely reset the AE to factory settings and start over.

I purchased a new Airport Extreme last week, I run a home network with a G5 desktop and a G4 Laptop running 10.4.10. It took me a while to set it up as I entered the wrong password for my ISP SBCGlobal. After I finally had it going I had a couple of occasions where Airport Utility did not see Airport but I still had the solid green light on Airport. I am not sure what I did that resolved the problem but I know I did a restart one time and my Airport showed up. I may have also reset my base station and re-entered my info but I no longer have the problem.

  • Airport utility doesn't see airport

My Airport Extreme has been working perfectly for several years, including printing through it.  Suddenly, when trying to print from either of the 2 computers on our wireless network, the printer cannot be found.  Further, Airport Utility does not see Airport, and yet we can still access the Internet through our network (i.e., no device is showing in the left pane, and there is a message that there are no wireless devices seen).  The printer prints fine when directly connected to each of our computers, so the problem is apparently not with it.  Any suggestions??

Temporarily connect via Ethernet to the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) and configure the AEBS to use a channel between 1 and 11.

  • Airport configuration utility doesn't find Airport Express anymore

    Hi,
This morning I updated my Airport configuration utitlity to version 6.3. When I opened the new version I noticed it couldn't find my Airport Express anymore. There was an error about the AE not being in my network anymore and whether I would the utility let it forget or not... However, I was still connected to the internet. So, no big problem for now, but I would like to be able to configure my Airport Express when needed, and that's not possible know.
Anyone else experiencing the same problem? I tried to reset (soft, hard and back to factory defaults) the AE, but no result. Only way to reconfigure my AE is through the wireless networks overview on my iPhone. The configuration utility on my iPhone works neither.
The old version of the utility (5.6) does recognize the AE by the way. Seems more like a software problem to me then?
The configuration utility on my iPhone works neither.

his worked for me and Airport Utility sees all my devices now.I indeed did it through the Terminal. But behold: in another thread I found the solution to this problem. I found this:

Re: Airport Utility v 6.3 Fails to See Airport Extreme or Express
Jun 13, 2013 10:03 AM (in response to williamfromames)
Looks like 6.3 is using IPv6 to talk to Time Capsules/Airports. I know I had turned off IPv6 long ago since I didn't need it. Also looks like Apple has removed 'Off' as a valid choice for that setting.
    To turn IPv6 back on:
    Open System Preferences->Network
    Click Advanced
Change Configure IPv6 from 'Off' to 'Link-local only'
    Click Ok
    Click Apply
AU 6.3 should now be able to communicate with your device.
This worked for me and Airport Utility 6.3 sees all devices in my network. You should try this too. Good luck!

  • Airport Express fails during setup.  Airport Utility doesn't find device, blinking amber light.

I bought an Airport Express Model A1392.  It is connected to my cable modem with an ethernet cable.  The cable ethernet works fine when plugged directly into my computer.
I open my Airport Utility on my Mac and no device is found.  I've tried resetting and powering off my modem and the AE.  Any other thoughts, is this a bum product?

fixed it myself: hard reset and setting my AirPort's wireless settings to 100% power did the trick.

  • Airport Utility doesn't see Airport Express

I have an Airport Express (wireless G) which is a couple years old. I am staying at my sisters for a couple months while going to school and brought it with me so I could get a wireless signal in my room since her router doesn't have wireless. I tried using the Airport Utility to scan for the Airport Express but it never finds it. Can I use this utility or do I need something else for this older Airport? If it is supposed to work; what might I be missing?
    Thanks

I have since done a reset to factory condition and tried again and it seems to be working now. I unplugged it from the power held down the reset button and plugged it back in continuing to hold down the reset. I think you have to hold it down for nearly 10 seconds until the light flashes green 4 times and then release the button. Then try scanning for it again. It still took a little longer than I expected for it to find it after that but once it did I have not had any more problems.
At least with it; my sister is on windows and that is another story!

  • Airport Utility doesn't detect Airport Express

    Hi,
I have 3 Airport Express' which I use to join my existing wireless network and stream music via airtunes.  Everything has been working fine until recently when I upgraded my wireless router to a Belkin Play N600.
The router is set up and connected to the internet, and my Airport Express' also connect to the network fine (they are shown as connected when you access the router).  The Airports connect fine both wirelessly or via ethernet.  However, despite the PC also being connected to the network (again shown as connected to the router and listed next to the airport express') the airport utility does not see the airports when you do a scan?
What is even stranger is if go to "file->configuration other" on the airport utility and then type in the airports IP address and password you can access the Airport and change settings etc. It just doesnt recognise them when you do a scan (and therefore it doesnt detect them in iTunes either)?
Any help anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks in advance
    Paul

    Thanks!
What kind of cable, and connect it to what (the computer, I guess, or the router?)? Sorry to sound so dumb, but I'm very new with this technology :-)

  • Airport utility can't find Airport Express

I reset my network today after getting a new Aiport Extreme AC. After setting up the Extreme, I wanted to add my Express stations (1 and 2 gen) back into the network. But neither of them are appearing in AirPort Utility under 'other wi-fi devices'. This picture shows the 1gen express several minutes after a hard reset. Same  story with the 2nd gen express. Neither appear. I'm on a 2011 iMac, OS 10.9.5, Airport utility 6.3.2. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Hold in the reset button for 8-10 seconds on the 2nd Gen AirPort Express, then release and allow a full minute for the Express to restart.
During that time, restart your Mac.
Click the WiFi icon at the top of the screen, then look for a listing of New AirPort Base Station.
Click on AirPort Express just below that listing
Mavericks (and Yosemite) are notorious for "lost" AirPorts so you may need to repeat the actions above a few times. If you are still having difficulty, we'll need to check some Network settings on your Mac in regards to IPv6.
On your Mac.....open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock)
    Open Network
Click on WiFi on the left to highlight it
Click Advanced at the lower right
    Click the TCP/IP tab
Check that the setting for Configure IPv6 is set to Link Local Only
    Click OK
    Click Apply
Then, perform the same steps as above except click on Ethernet to highlight it
Restart your Mac again and see if the AirPort Express appears when you click on the WiFi icon
If still no luck....and if you have an iPhone or iPad handy......
Tap Settings on the home screen
    Tap WiFi
Look for a listing of Set Up a New Base Station
    Tap on AirPort Express

  • Airport Utility doesn't see Airport Exteme (White space ship, NOT THE BLOCK

Seems to be a 10.5 issue, my 10.4.11 machine and Airport Admin utility works fine BUT, my Leopard machines are online just fine and the Admin Utility or the Utility do not see the AEB--AGAIN, THIS IS A 802.11G WHITE SPACE STATION SHAPED AEB, NOT THE NEW BLOCK OF WOOD SHAPED AEB I've already read about the apple fix for reseting AND IT DOES WORK for this model.
    Any thoughts out there?
    G

Mark, I'm sorry to seem obtuse, but I remain confused. Since no one else is jumping in to help you, please help me understand.
The link you referenced doesn't seem to have anything to do with the 802.11n AEBS. That unit has its own forum and this isn't it. Apple hasn't made things easier by giving two different Airport units the same name, but since yours is not an 801.11n AEBS, don't get sidetracked by it.
The Apple procedure for resetting the AEBS that you have is detailed here. You said it works for your model AEBS which it certainly should. How were you able to determine this?
Next, if you're getting online with all your computers, and the issue is just that your Leopard clients can't see the AEBS in Airport Utility, I'd begin to suspect something is wrong with a Preference file related to Airport Utility. I don't have Leopard, but there must be a file that corresponds to something like the following:
    ~Library/Preferences/com.apple.airport.airportutility.plist
Try dragging it to the Desktop, log out, log in again, and see if that changes anything. If it doesn't, try the same technique with the following Preferences file:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
You'll have to recreate your System Preferences > Network settings after this one.
If it mucks up things even worse, you can always drag those files back and undo those steps, but I think a Preferences file somewhere is to blame.

  • Airport utility doesn't see airport extreme

i bought an Airport Extreme to replace a Linksys router that works but with a weak range.
I disconnected my Linksys router and plugged the cables into the Airport Extreme as per the instructions (btw, i don’t know why Apple has to use the silly little icons instead of labeling the WAN connection ‘Internet,’ but whatever.) I plugged in the power. The Link light for the connection came on.
The Airport Extreme status light glowed amber.
I ran the Airport utility on an iPad. It says it doesn’t see any Airport Extreme.
The Airport Extreme started flashing amber.
I read the troubleshooting instructions. I powered down the cable modem. I pushed the reset button on the Airport Extreme. I unplugged everything, plugged it in again. I tried the Airport utility on an iPhone. It said it didn't see any Airport Extreme. I checked the Airport utility on the iPad. Still didn't see anything.
I plugged my Linksys router back in and everything works.
    Huh?

Power off the cable modem for 5-10 minutes to allow it to reset. It will not recognize the AirPort until it resets correctly.
Connect the Ethernet cable from the cable modem to the WAN "O" port on the AirPort
Please go back to the home screen on the iPad
    Tap Settings (gear icon)
    Tap WiFi
Just under the heading of Setup a New AirPort Base Station, a listing of AirPort Extreme should appear.
    Does it? If yes,
Tap on AirPort Extreme to start the setup "wizard" and follow the prompts.
