Airport Utility fails to see Airport Extreme Only an Older Base Station no longer connected

Very weird what's happened... earlier this morning there was a power failure (none of my 2 computers were ON, and they are plugged in thru UPS with power surge/outage capabilities).
I turned my old Macbook Pro (2007) and everythign is fine. My Mac Pro (2008) is fine but it can't connect to the internet.
I've resetted both the modem and the Airport Extreme Base Station.
I've restarted and resetted the PRAM on my Mac Pro.
I've tried many times to diagnose it/change settings/create new network with Network and Airport Utility to no avail.
When I open Airport Utility on the Macbook Pro, it shows the Airport Extreme and it all looks fine... when I open Airport Utility on the Mac Pro, it only sees an old Snow/Graphite Base Station I haven't had plugged in in a log time. It doesn't see anything else.
I've tried trashing the Airport Utility preferences as well... but still nothing. The Wif Fi icon shows a '!'. When I click on it, the pull down menu shows an "Alert: No Internet Connection", but it still shows my network  (and the neighbours' network) and it even has the check mark next to my network... ???
I'm running 10.8.5 and Airport Utility 6.3.1.
Please. Help.

Just a quick update, spent 90 minutes on the phone with apple support today.  If I boot the mac in safe mode, the airport utility can see the base station.
In the course of trouble shooting, a test account was created, but the airport utility had the same issue.  It proved that there isn't anything wrong with any of the hardware at the very least, and points to user level configuration problems (unfortunately, I was not able to sort that out with support).

  • Airport Utility does not see Airport Extreme Base Station

Purchased Airport Extreme yesterday at Apple Store to replace old Netgear Router. Wanted wireless network to work with 2 identical HP Laptops running XP with SP3 and 2 iPod touches, and possible future purchases of iPad 2 and Apple TV. Installed Airport Utility software from CD on Dell Studio running Windows 7. Connected Airport Extreme to cable modem and Dell Studio. Ran Airport Utility software to configure Base Station but it did not recognize the Base Station. Base Station had blinking amber light. Did have internet connectivity on Dell Studio, and wireless internet connectivity on 2 iPod touches, and on one HP Laptop. No wireless internet on other HP Laptop. But wireless internet connection was unsecured and Airport Utility did not see Airport Extreme so could not configure it to make it secure. Contacted Apple Customer support. After 30-40 minutes of attempting several different possible fixes only able to use Airport Utility to configure Airport Extreme remotely, wirelessly, from one HP Laptop, not the Dell Studio that is directly connected to the base station. Now that the base station is configured the network is secure. However, second HP Laptop cannot connect to primary wireless network. I created password protected "Guest" network using Airport Utility, and laptop is able to connect to this Guest network. From reviewing forums am now able to configure Airport Extreme with Airport Utility by using "Configure other" on Dell computer. But utility cannot find device by scanning. Would like to find way to (1) have Airport Utility on Windows 7 Dell see Airport Extreme by scanning and not using "configure other," and (2) have 2nd HP Laptop connect to primary network and not "guest' network. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Bob - Thanks so much for your quick reply. I followed your suggestions and, to go into perhaps unnecessary detail, I'll write what I did. I completely disconnected the Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS) from my computer. I disabled Windows Firewall, uninstalled my anti-virus program, and uninstalled Airport Utility and Bonjour, recycled by cable modem (took out the battery and unplugged it for about 20 seconds), then restarted my computer. After the computer booted up, I verified that windows firewall was disabled, reinstalled Airport Utility and Bonjour, then reconnected the cable connecting the AEBS to the computer (to one of the three ethernet ports, and I tried each of them in case one was faulty) but not to the cable modem as my firewall was disabled and had no anti-virus software. I also reconnected the AEBS power chord. I opened the newly reinstalled Airport Utility software and it did not find the base station. Only when I used "configure other" was I able to access the AEBS. I recycled the modem again, but that did not help. I turned on the firewall, installed anti-virus software, connected the AEBS to the modem, the light turned green, and I was able to access the internet on the primary computer and the wireless network gave me internet access on my laptops. But I was still not able to have my main computer, the one directly connected to the AEBS able to see it, and configure it, without utilizing "configure other."
Also, any idea why one of my laptops can only access the "guest" network? When it attempts to connect to the primary network it will stay on "acquiring network address" for what seems a few minutes, then switch to the "guest" network and connect immediately.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Installed the latest update, now Airport Utility doesn't see Airport

I ran the latest update, now my Airport Utility claims to not see my Airport Extreme although I'm still on my network.? Any suggestions before I completely reset the AE to factory settings and start over.

I purchased a new Airport Extreme last week, I run a home network with a G5 desktop and a G4 Laptop running 10.4.10. It took me a while to set it up as I entered the wrong password for my ISP SBCGlobal. After I finally had it going I had a couple of occasions where Airport Utility did not see Airport but I still had the solid green light on Airport. I am not sure what I did that resolved the problem but I know I did a restart one time and my Airport showed up. I may have also reset my base station and re-entered my info but I no longer have the problem.

  • Airport utility doesn't see airport

My Airport Extreme has been working perfectly for several years, including printing through it.  Suddenly, when trying to print from either of the 2 computers on our wireless network, the printer cannot be found.  Further, Airport Utility does not see Airport, and yet we can still access the Internet through our network (i.e., no device is showing in the left pane, and there is a message that there are no wireless devices seen).  The printer prints fine when directly connected to each of our computers, so the problem is apparently not with it.  Any suggestions??

Temporarily connect via Ethernet to the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) and configure the AEBS to use a channel between 1 and 11.

  • Airport Utility can't see Airport Express Device

I tried to print some documents and I received a message telling me the printer is not ready or may not exists, so I launch the Airport Utility to see what is going on and there is no Airport Express just my Time Capsule.
I already reset the airport express to factory settings and everything goes ok until the green light shows but the airport utility can't see it.
    Any help will be appreciate
    thanks
    Dan
I already tried connecting the Airport Express to my computer with an ethernet cable

Connect an Ethernet cable between the wall jack and the WAN (circle of dots) port on the AirPort Express. Connect a second cable between the LAN (opposing arrows) port on the Express to your computer.
You should now be able to access the Express using the AirPort Utility to configure the Express as a WAP.

  • AirPort Utility does not see AirPort Extreme Base in G5 but see it in PB G4

Moreover I cannot lease an IP from AirPort Extreme Base with my G5, I must use manual IP set in order to connect. Every things works fine with the PB G4 which had an import setting from the G5 before the trouble began.

Sorry I had so many change in Hardware I have an AirPort Extreme Base and AirPort Utility works fine with the PowerBook G4. When you open Network Preferences and click advanced you will see TCP/IP
if you open it you see configure IPv4 you should Using DHCP.

  • Airport utility doesn't see airport extreme

i bought an Airport Extreme to replace a Linksys router that works but with a weak range.
I disconnected my Linksys router and plugged the cables into the Airport Extreme as per the instructions (btw, i don’t know why Apple has to use the silly little icons instead of labeling the WAN connection ‘Internet,’ but whatever.) I plugged in the power. The Link light for the connection came on.
The Airport Extreme status light glowed amber.
I ran the Airport utility on an iPad. It says it doesn’t see any Airport Extreme.
The Airport Extreme started flashing amber.
I read the troubleshooting instructions. I powered down the cable modem. I pushed the reset button on the Airport Extreme. I unplugged everything, plugged it in again. I tried the Airport utility on an iPhone. It said it didn't see any Airport Extreme. I checked the Airport utility on the iPad. Still didn't see anything.
I plugged my Linksys router back in and everything works.
    Huh?

Power off the cable modem for 5-10 minutes to allow it to reset. It will not recognize the AirPort until it resets correctly.
Connect the Ethernet cable from the cable modem to the WAN "O" port on the AirPort
Please go back to the home screen on the iPad
    Tap Settings (gear icon)
    Tap WiFi
Just under the heading of Setup a New AirPort Base Station, a listing of AirPort Extreme should appear.
    Does it? If yes,
Tap on AirPort Extreme to start the setup "wizard" and follow the prompts.

  • Airport Utility can't see Airport Extreme

    (moved from another thread)
I get the "Airport Utility was unable to discover any Airport wireless devices" as I'm trying to manage an ancient Airport Extreme.
I took advice from this forum and restarted the base station and then plugged it into the mac directly with an ethernet cable. Still nothing. Any ideas?
Base Station is model M8440, trying to manage it with a Macbook Pro and OS 10.6.4. Thanks in advance...

  • Airport Utility can't see Airport Express!

Running Snow Leopard. Just installed latest version of Airport Utility. I use a D-Link Wireless router which my Airport has no problem connecting to. My wireless printer has no problems connecting to the network. I've disabled all security on the router just in case. The AE is three feet away from the laptop and one room away from the wireless router.
I've plugged the AE directly into into the DSL modem, directly into the router, and then directly into the laptop. Each time the AE turns green. However, never does the Airport Utility see the AE. Everything is grayed out so I can't configure anything. I've done a hard reset, rebooted the router and modem. Rebooted my MacBook Pro. I just want to stream my music because my current router set up works just fine. I've spent about 4 hours on this so far tonight and after reading pages of support postings still can't solve the problem. Any ideas?

Sadly yes. I've reset it twice but no luck. It's odd that it doesn't show up anywhere. Any reason that the Airport wouldn't recognize that the AE transmitting? If I plug it directly into the Macbook using a ethernet cable, it does see it then but no information, just recognizes there's something plugged into it

  • Airport Utility doesn't see Airport Exteme (White space ship, NOT THE BLOCK

Seems to be a 10.5 issue, my 10.4.11 machine and Airport Admin utility works fine BUT, my Leopard machines are online just fine and the Admin Utility or the Utility do not see the AEB--AGAIN, THIS IS A 802.11G WHITE SPACE STATION SHAPED AEB, NOT THE NEW BLOCK OF WOOD SHAPED AEB I've already read about the apple fix for reseting AND IT DOES WORK for this model.
    Any thoughts out there?
    G

Mark, I'm sorry to seem obtuse, but I remain confused. Since no one else is jumping in to help you, please help me understand.
The link you referenced doesn't seem to have anything to do with the 802.11n AEBS. That unit has its own forum and this isn't it. Apple hasn't made things easier by giving two different Airport units the same name, but since yours is not an 801.11n AEBS, don't get sidetracked by it.
The Apple procedure for resetting the AEBS that you have is detailed here. You said it works for your model AEBS which it certainly should. How were you able to determine this?
Next, if you're getting online with all your computers, and the issue is just that your Leopard clients can't see the AEBS in Airport Utility, I'd begin to suspect something is wrong with a Preference file related to Airport Utility. I don't have Leopard, but there must be a file that corresponds to something like the following:
    ~Library/Preferences/com.apple.airport.airportutility.plist
Try dragging it to the Desktop, log out, log in again, and see if that changes anything. If it doesn't, try the same technique with the following Preferences file:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
You'll have to recreate your System Preferences > Network settings after this one.
If it mucks up things even worse, you can always drag those files back and undo those steps, but I think a Preferences file somewhere is to blame.

  • Airport Utility doesn't see Airport Express

I have an Airport Express (wireless G) which is a couple years old. I am staying at my sisters for a couple months while going to school and brought it with me so I could get a wireless signal in my room since her router doesn't have wireless. I tried using the Airport Utility to scan for the Airport Express but it never finds it. Can I use this utility or do I need something else for this older Airport? If it is supposed to work; what might I be missing?
    Thanks

I have since done a reset to factory condition and tried again and it seems to be working now. I unplugged it from the power held down the reset button and plugged it back in continuing to hold down the reset. I think you have to hold it down for nearly 10 seconds until the light flashes green 4 times and then release the button. Then try scanning for it again. It still took a little longer than I expected for it to find it after that but once it did I have not had any more problems.
At least with it; my sister is on windows and that is another story!

  • Lost connection to one of my Airport express units. Serial number 44500WQV0. Message in Airport Utility is to use Version 5.6 to configure base station. I have version 6.3.1. Both airport express units bought at same time few years ago.

    Hello all.
Lost my connection to one of two airport express units. Both purchased few years ago. Use them to stream music to house speakers via WiFi. I have v6.3.1 of Airport Utility. Message says to use v5.6 to reconfigure this base station.
How do I do that, please?
    Mahesh

You can use the following workaround to install AirPort Utility 5.6 on a Lion or Mountain Lion Mac:
Be sure to read the caveats at the end.
Lion / Mountain Lion's package installer will refuse to install superseded versions of AirPort Utility. Instead you will need to use a package extractor such as Pacifist or unpkg. Pacifist is shareware, unpkg is free.
    Download Pacifist here: http://www.charlessoft.com/
    Download unpkg here: http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Download AirPort Utility 5.6 here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
When the AirPort Utility .dmg file finishes downloading, open it to expand and reveal the AirPortUtility56.pkg package installer file.
Directions for Pacifist (I do not have screenshots for unpkg but the idea is similar):
Open Pacifist and from its File menu, navigate to the package and open it.
Click the "reveal triangles" until you see AirPort Utility 5.6.app:
Select it and then click Install from Pacifist's toolbar. It will then be installed in your Utilities folder, and you can quit Pacifist.
The most recent version of AirPort Utility included with Mountain Lion should be used to configure 802.11n - capable AirPort Base Stations. Make no attempt to delete it. It and the older version (which will bear the unique name "AirPort Utility 5.6") can peacefully coexist. Use the older version only as necessary for older AirPort Base Stations that cannot be administered any other way.
If you happen to have an archived copy of the AU 5.6 app somewhere, such as a Time Machine backup or equivalent, you can simply restore it or drag the app to your Mountain Lion system's Utilities folder instead of resorting to the above procedure. It will run without complaint. It is only the package installer that is the problem.
Keep in mind that Apple's decision to abandon support for the original AirPort Express and AEBS was for reasons known only to them. Remember that you are using obsolete equipment, should some future OS X feature not work for you.

  • Airport utility does not see airport extreme

I get internet just fine, even wirelessly, no issues, yet when I launch the Utility I get this.
Same deal on my laptop, the MacPro is hard wired to the router which is then wired to the comcast box. It all works fine, but I now have no control over the settings on the device, I need to get at them. Is there a way to access this unit via a web browser bypassing the utility?

I am running a MacPro 3gig Quad with 10.7.5 since it is an older MacPro and will not load Mtn Lion.

  • Airport utility won't see Airport Express via wifi thru time capsul

I have an Imac that is connected to a time capsule 802.11n which is connected to a DSL modem. My time capsule died last night and fortunately it was covered under warranty, so I now have a new time capsule. My network is up and running and the wifi signal is strong. That is great except when I set the time capsule up it did not recognize my airport express. So I re-installed the software from the a.express disc and everything loaded correctly. I plugged my aexpress in and the light cycles through the initial green then to solid amber then to flashing amber. I have gone into airport utilities and can't find the aexpress. I have the a.express in the same room as my time capsule. What can I do to get these two devices to start talking to one another?

The trick was connecting my axpress directly to the Imac via ethernet. From that point on everything went smoothly. No need to reply to this one.
