Airport Utility for Windows fails during install

I downloaded the latest driver for the airport utility for Windows 7.   Ran the exec and during the install had a failure on some file that didn't get installed.
Have all firewalls down.  Utility comes up but doesn't find my airport extreme.

Thanks.  Tried the hard wire approach and the utility didn't find it.   Did the config other and it was found.  So the unit is there but the utility can find it which is what I need in order to connect the shared drive to my windows 7 system.
The airport base station agent is running and configured but I never get a prompt to enter the disk password.
Nice clue about using the IP to connect.
I did this via WIFI. Used my iMac to get the IP address.
The time machine is in bridge mode and connecting through another router to the internet.

  • Error when opening Airport Utility for Windows XP

Help! I have recently purchased and Airport extreme base station and the supplied Airport Utility software will not open. I am operating on Windows XP pro, and have installed the latest software updates to no avail. Is there an older version or perhaps an oblique solution to run the utility software?
    Thanks.

Hello jleo325. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!

  • I can't find an airport utility for windows 8 or 8.1 to download.

I have a desktop computer with windows 8.1 and an Airport Extreme base station. I need to install the Airport utility to set up the Airport Extreme base station and I can't find at apple support an Airport utility for my operating system to download..

If you have an iPhone or iPad handy, the setup is much easier on those devices than it is compared to a PC.
If you have an iOS device, download and install AirPort Utility on the App Store on iTunes - Apple

  • Airport Utility 5.6 fails to install

Hi, I need help.  I have spent the last 2 days trying to extend my wireless network with Airport Extreme and Airport Express.  I currently have Airport Utility 6.2 installed and am unable to "check" the box to allow the Airport Extreme to be "extended".  I've tried at least 30 times to install Airport Utility 5.6 and have also tried installing 5.5.3.  5.6 fails every time.  5.5.3 will install successfully, but when I open Airport Utility (under Utilities) it is still 6.2 and that's the only one to choose.  What am I doing wrong??
Please help.  Thank you so much in advance!!

OK, thanks for confirming that for me. Please try this:
Temporarily locate the AirPort Express in the same room or near the AirPort Extreme
Power up the Express and let it run a full minute
Push the reset button on the back of the Express with a pen or something similar and hold it for 7-8 seconds, then release
Allow a full minute for the Express to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
Click the fan shaped AirPort icon at the top of your Mac's screen and wait a few seconds for a listing of New AirPort Base Station to appear.
Just below that, click directly on AirPort Express
AirPort Setup (part of AirPort Utility) will open up automatically and take a minute to analyze the network, then announce that the Express will be configured to "extend" your AirPort Extreme network.
Enter a device name for the AirPort Express.....you can use Apple's suggestion here or shorten the name....then click Next
AirPort Setup will take another minute to configure everything. When you see the message of Set Up Complete, click Done and close AirPort Setup.
Now locate the Express approximately half the distance between the AirPort Extreme and the general area that needs more wireless coverage and power the Express back up.
    Please report on your results.

  • Aiport Expresses No Longer Working - Airport Utility for Windows 5.6.1

I have two airport express devices, each connected to a stereo to stream itunes.  Both have abruptly stopped working and the Airport Utility no longer recognizes either device. Neither device is available in itunes as a "speaker" anymore.  When I run the airport utility scan, I receive the following message:
"Airport utility was unable to find any airport devices......."  The devices are in range (always have been and have always worked up until now).
What I have tried so far:
    Uninstall and reinstall Airport Utility
    Reset the airport express devices
Same results as before, Airport utility is unable to find either device.
    Thanks

How to manage Airport Extreme from Windows PC?
How to connect at 300 Mbps? Which secuirty protocol to use to connect wireless N speed?

How to manage Airport Extreme from Windows PC?
I have not had a PC for a few years, but if I did I would use AirPort Utility 5.5.3 for Windows to administer the AirPort Extreme.
How to connect at 300 Mbps?
The following may help to connect at the fastest available speed:
Make sure that the PC is capable of connecting to a 5 GHz network. If you are not sure, you may need to contact the PC manufacturer or post the question on a PC forum.
Keep the PC close to the AirPort Extreme....same room, line-of-sight between the PC and AirPort Exteme.
Recommend that you use WPA2 Personal security settings.

  • Airport Utility for Windows 5.3.1 cannot access Airport Express

I am trying to configure an AX newer model and continually get an error. The AX has a flashing amber light, due to the fact that I have reset it to factory defaults. I am able to connect to the internet, even though my connection icon in XP says I'm disconnected. I open the Airport Utility and it detects the AX, when I go to configure manually it runs through some progress bars and the gives me the following error:
"An error occured while trying to access the Apple wireless device. Make sure your network connection is valid and try again"
    "error: -4"
I have version 5.3.1.9 installed of the utility, i tried to use 4.2, but it wouldn't recognize my device, said i had to use a version higher than 5.0 to detect my device. I tried with version 5.2 and no luck either, please help!!!
Only Windows PCs at home, sorry!

I've had a similar problem with Airport Express(not Extreme)and received exactly the same error message as the original poster "error: -4".
My system is a desktop running xp pro, Service Pack 2 (fully updated), Athlon 64 3000+.
I installed the Airport utility 5.3.1. It recognised airport express, which was plugged in and flashing amber. But when I pressed 'continue' to set up the connection, it came up with the above error message repeatedly whether I connect to the router wirelessly or with an ethernet cable- makes no difference. The router is a Thompson Speedtouch 780. An Apple senior analyst talk me through different permutations of connecting the AE directly to the computer etc, doing numerous resets but all to no avail. Looks like I'll be returning it. Shame!

  • Can't map ports with Airport Utility for Windows

We are currently set up with Airport Express as a wireless router with a cable modem as the gateway. When I attempt to map ports, I do the following:
    run Airport Utility
Select the Base Station, click Manual
    click Internet. click NAT.
    Click Configure Port Mappings...
    click +
At this point, a requester appears asking for my Private IP address. Here I'd expect to see a prefix, like 192.168.1 and a field for the last octet.
Instead, I see 192.168.1.2 and THEN a field. What silliness is this? All the manuals I have read omit that last octet, so you can type it in a field. .2 is the first number in the DHCP range. I'm using a fixed IP of 192.168.1.176 (outside the range.) Of course, none of the port mappings I create work. I've tried typing 176 into the field.

  • AirPort Utility for windows

Why in the world would apple no longer create a windows utility to administer an airport extreme? I have loved my previous model exteme, but if windows is no longer supported to administer a disk and do the intial setup, then I will need to find a different soulution.

We are all users....just like you...and we have no idea what Apple will do or why they will do it.
Asking us why Apple does something is going to be a waste of your time.
If you have a technical question, we might be able to help.. If you want to gripe, then gripe at Apple using the link below, as it is extremely unlikely that anyone from Apple will ever see your comment on a user-to-user forum.

  • Current Airport Utility for Windows Download Available Now?

This question seems to be asked repeatedly but never answered. Version 4.2 seems to be the current version available from Apple.com while 5.2.1 seems to be the current version available from non-Apple sources. Is 5.2.1 the latest version?

    Is 5.2.1 the latest version?
    Yes.

  • Airport Express Install help needed as Airport utility for PC seems to sort of work?

    Hope someone can help.
Just bought the Airport Extreme 802.11n Wi-Fi
It is connected to my cable modem, and i have my ps3 hard wired to it.
It is on and sending a signal because this computer is using the internet connect on it right now.
Problem is it is still unsecured as the Airport Utility can find it but then when I click continue to set-it up it gives me the following message.
An error occured while trying to access the apple wireless device. Make sure your network connection is valid and try again.
    Error 10057.
Any help would be great. I'm on a PC running Windows 7.

    Thanks for the reply.
All we have is the cable internet modem....it provides our phone and internet signals....tons of lights on it the front that are solid green or flashing green when in use.
I have connected a cable from the modem to the airport express (WAN spot). Plugged in the device (power) and then downloaded Airport Utility for windows from apples website (no disk came in the box).
I have have two wired connections running to the extreme as well, one is to my PS3 downstairs and the other I use when I'm at my desk with my office laptop. These shouldn't be affecting anything and I can get internet on my PS3 wired connecton so I know the router is functioning.
I installed Airport Utility and have rebooted my PC running windows 7, I click and opne the Utility. It finds the base station but when I click on the options to continue or manual I get the error message noted in my first post. I have alos noted that the router goes green light to yellow to flashing yellow. It does nothing but flash amber right now.
    Hope this helps for solutions?

  • Airport Express Installation Utility for Windows 7

Is there an Airport Extreme Installation Utility for Windows 7 64-bit?

There is no airport utility for windows after 5.6.1
BUT you must use Airport utility v6 for any of the new airports.. although people report different experiences with 5.6.1
Install in windows 7 64 bit is still possible.. boot to safe mode and try again. And Again.. And Again.. Isn't windows fun!!
It can usually be worked around .. although Apple seem less and less interested in making Windows accessible.
The airport utility for iOS is great and most people will have iphone or ipad they can use.. much better than windows AU. 5.6.1
