Airport utility install failure

Trying to install airport utility 5.6 on MacOS10.7.5. Installation fails and says "contact manufacturer".

Apple's installer will not allow AirPort Utility 5.6 to be set up on a Mac that is running Lion (10.7.3) or above, so that would explain why you are having problems with (10.7.5).
We are not supposed to talk about unsupported software on an Apple forum, but it is not hard using Google to find ways to do what you want.  The problem....it will not be supported by Apple if you have problems, and the software "author" won't offer support either.

  • AirPort Extreme not visible in the airport utility installed on my Imac

My AirPort Extreme is suddenly not visible in the airport utility installed on my Imac. After numerous rescans I am bordering to give up as the connection seems to be working fine when I connect it to the Imac through the ethernet cable. Any advices further than restarting the devices?

For the app Airport Utility you have to be connected to the AE wifi.
If you are not talking about the AU App, but the Airport Antenna you can do following:
disconnect AE form power, wait 10-15 seconds, turn off the Airport Antenna in your mac. Then connect the AE to power, wait till it is fully started, then turn the Airport Antenna to on again.

  • Airport Utility `install failed' error with both 6.0 and 6.1

    Hi folks
I am running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (11E53) and cannot get the Airport Utility to run at all. [5.5.3] The application icon flickers as though it is about to launch and then nothing happens.
I have tried other 5.x downloads and they all fail because I am running OS X Lion 10.7.4.
Doing a standard Software Update or using a download of 6.x from the Apple Support site, the installer comes up with an `install failed' error with both 6.0 and 6.1, having gotten through the complete process and looking like they were `successful'.
It's the only time in two years and many updates later that i have come across this issue, so I am unsure how to start to tackle it.
    Any ideas or suggestions please?
    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to Apple Communities
Backup your files and try this:
    1. Reboot from recovery partition (or as in my case USB recovery drive)
    2. Select Re-install Mac OS X
    3. Allow the process to run through multiple restarts
    4. When reinstall process is complete run software update (side note, my software update would not launch as long as my USB recovery stick was plugged in, weird)
    5. Run all updates saving the Airport Utility 6.0 until last.
    6. Install the airport utility from software update.

  • Airport Utility 6 Failure To Recognize Devices

Has anyone just upgraded to Airport Utility 6 and found that their configured Airport Extreme basestation and expresses are not showing up in the app? Our stations are working just fine and dnady and the previous version of the utility running on all our other Macs have no problem finding them. But the Utility 6 can not see them.

First start with a SMC reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
Next I would try to install Snow Leopard again.  During installation I would select Disk Utility>First Aid from the Utilities option in the menu bar and verify and repair the HDD.
If successful, then determine the status of the battery.  It may no longer be serviceable.
Also look here for more options that are available:

  • AirPort Utility connection failure

My MacBooks airport has been unable to connect to any wireless devices in multiple locations. Although on my home screen it says i am successfully connected to my unlocked home network and the airport is turned on, i dont get any connection. I an considering taking it to a repair store. any suggestions?

Try re-selecting the Time Capsule via Time Machine Preferences.
If that doesn't help, try a "full reset" per #A4 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.
If still no help, try resetting the TC per http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3728
Once you get it working on the iMac, leave it connected via Ethernet for the first, full backup, but do not try to back up the laptop yet.
When the iMac's backup is done, connect the laptop via Ethernet to do it's first, full backup.
It sounds like there was some other problem with the earlier backups; you should have received some messages about why TM couldn't back up.
How much data, in total, is on your 2 Macs?  If your Time Capsule isn't at least twice that size, consider getting an external HD, connecting it to the iMac, and backing it up that way (that will be much faster and more reliable, too).

  • Airport utility 5.6 wont install on OS 10.7.5

downloaded airport utility 5.6 but install failed multiple times
trying to install on 2.66 ghz imac with OS 10.7.5

Sorry, but Apple does not support the installation of the older AirPort Utility 5.6 on newer operating systems like Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks or Yosemite.
If you have an older AirPort device that needs AirPort Utility 5.6 for administration, you can do is use.....or borrow for a few minutes....... an older Mac running Leopard or Snow Leopard, or a PC with AirPort Utility installed on the device.
Yes, there are probably hacks on the Internet that you could try, but you would have to install software from an unknown source and override standard security settings on your Mac if you decide to do this. Definitely not recommended, since there is no help if something goes wrong.

  • Old airport express not recognized by airport utility

Mine is a two part problem.  I was having issues with my old Airport Extreme Base Station.  I was dramatically losing data transfer speeds just 20-30 feet from its location.  I also noticed that signal strength no longer made it upstairs to the master bedroom.  I thought that after 6 years, it finally died on me. I purchased a brand new Netgear dual band 5G router and performance improved but I still am having difficulty with the non-5G band upstairs.  (I understand that 5G doesn't travel as far but is faster.  I thought it would be better to use my other network for devices upstairs.)  I still have the Airport Extreme and believe it or not, a really old Airport Express.  I've tried to use both to extend the range of my non-5G network and have failed miserably at both.  The Airport Extreme keeps giving me problems during set up to extend range and my Airport Utility doesn't even support the Express.  (see photo)
    Any suggestions?

    Two separate issues here:
I still have the Airport ExtremeThe AirPort Extreme would not be compatible with a Netgear router if you are trying to "extend" or "repeat" the signal from the Netgear wirelessly.
The reason.....Apple designed their "extend" feature to only work with other Apple routers, so it would be extremely unlikely that this feature would work with a 3rd party router for the purpose that you ask about.
If you are able to permanently connect the Extreme to the Netgear router using a permanent wired Ethernet cable connection, then the Extreme could be configured to provide additional wireless coverage in that manner.
Airport Utility doesn't even support the Express.  (see photo)
That would be correct if you have the older A1084 or A1088 versions of the AirPort Express. To confirm, locate the model number on the side of the Express.....hard to see....you may need a magnifying glass to see the number.
It will take a Mac running the older Leopard or Snow Leopard operating system, or a PC with AirPort Utility installed to be able to administer the older Express.
Unfortunately, this version of the Express does not even have an "extend" feature, to it too would also need to be permanently wired to the Netgear or the Extreme if you need more wireless coverage from the Express.

  • Airport Utility windows update from 5.1.0 to 5.2.1  will not update

I have airport utility installed. whenever I open it, I get a message that tells me an update 5.2.1 is avail. I do so but I receive a message that just states that I must have 5.1 installed (which I do) and just errors out. I am running win XP pro. I wouldn't care so much except this happens every time I run the program, and it is annoying. What gives anyhow?

I solved my problem by reinstalling 5.0 from the CD that came with Airport Extreme. Updates ok now.

  • I want to re-use my old airport express base station but airport utility doesn't recognise it anymore (it dates from 2005) i would like to use it to connect to my speakers only

I have an old airport express base station from 2005
I would like to have a network on it so i can put it upstairs in a room and connect my speakers to it so i can send my music (from itunes) over the airport to my speakers.
I reset it and now i want to configure but the Airport utility doesn't recognise it anymore.
Can i update the firmware? has it become useless because too old or what can i do?
I work on macbook pro with macOSX 10.9.4
Can someone give me some tips please
    thanks
    J

Please locate the model number on the side of the AirPort Express. Hard to see.....gray lettering on a white background....so you may likely need a magnifying glass and good lighting to see it.
The model number starts with a "A" followed by four numbers. If you see A1084 or A1088, unfortunately AirPort Utility 6.x in Mavericks OS X (10.9.4) does not support these older models. However, you can still administer these models if you have a Mac.....or can borrow one for a few minutes....using Leopard (10.5.x) or Snow Leopard (10.6.x), or a PC with AirPort Utility installed on the device.

  • Airport Utility issue

My Airport Express requires the older utility 5.6 to run with Lion on my mac, which I downloaded and tried to install. I keep getting an Installation Failed message.
From what I've read, the problem is that I currently have the 6.3.1 utility installed.
How can I install Airport Utility 5.6 on my mac when it currently has 6.3.1 on it? I tried trashing 6.3.1 but it won't let me.
    Help, please!

I believe the problem is that I currently have 6.3.1 installed.
That is not the problem. The problem is that you also need to have another version of AirPort Utility installed on your Mac to be able to administer the older AirPort.
Do NOT try to delete AirPort Utility 6.3.1.
Do try the steps that Tesserax provided in the referenced post, repeated again below. Once you have done this, you will have two versions of AirPort Utility installed on your Mac......5.6 and 6.3.1.  Choose the 5.6 version when you need to administer the older AirPort router.

Re: This version of AirPort Utility doesn't support this base station. Use AirPort Utility 5.6 to configure or manage this base station. AirPort Utility 5.6 is available at AirPort Service and Support.in response to Connie75
I assume that your MacBook Pro is running OS X Mountain Lion ... correct? If so, version 5.6 can run just fine on this version of OS X; it just can't be installed in the traditional way.
Here are the basic steps to install version 5.6 under Mountain Lion [This will work on Lion as well] using CharlesSoft's Pacifist:
If you haven't already download the AirPort Utility disk image file directly from Apple Support Download
Place the resultant AirPortUtility56.dmg file onto your Mac's Desktop.
    Run Pacifist.
Click on the Open Package option. Find the disk image file that you just placed on your desktop, and then, click on Open.
The utility is located as follows: Contents of AirPortUtility56.dmg > Contents of AirPortUtility56.pkg > Contents of AirPortUtility56Lion.pkg > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility 5.6.app
Drag AirPort Utility 5.6.app to your Mac's /Applications/Utilities folder.
You can now run the AirPort Utility [5.6] from the Utilities folder.

  • Airport utility windows 7, airport utility windows 7

    Dear Sir,
I have a Windows 7 64 bits. The AirPort Utility installed correctly with no error but I can not see my TC and AE. ("AirPort Utility was unable to find any AirPort wireless device ...")
On another PC with Windows XP SP3 Airport Utility works correctly and I see Time capsula OK.
Can you help me with Windows 7.
    Best regards,
    Alex

    UPDATE
    * I located the IP address and admin password of the airport extreme and was able to log into to the (File / configure other) airport extreme.
    I believe it's a W7 bonjour issue.
As you can see in my attachments, Bonjour is installed however msconfig running services show it as stopped. I can't get it to start.
** How can I force bonjour to start? **
Here are my replies to your recommended steps:
What version extreme are you talking about? Actual model A1xxx from the base is a big help.
    - I forgot to check this
Step 1.. Ping.. Ping is your most important tool to find things on a network.
Open a command window and type ping 10.0.1.1 (or whatever is the current IP of the extreme).
    - Yes, I can ping it.
    Please turn off all firewalls.
    - Yes, firewall is off
Make sure the win7 is not in homegroup.
    - done.
Make sure win7 is set to home.. not work or public for location of the network.
    - done.
Step 2. .. This assumes you now have ping response.
In whatever airport utility you like, reset the extreme to use all SMB names.
    - WHERE do I make these changes?

  • Time Capsule and PC Connectivity when Airport Utility is not available

I want to connect a PC to a time capsule via Ethernet to use the LAN Connection. The PC does not have Airport Utility installed (corporate restrictions) and does not recognise the connection when I plug in the network cable. How can I fix this problem? Would putting a switch inbetween work?

Did you replace the ethernet patch cord? Try a tested and known working good one.
Put a switch in between the TC and the faulty computer.. or occasionally faulty computer.
I am struggling to help because you feed bits of info in each post..
Please give me the entire picture all in one go.. start from scratch.
    1. TC.. model from rubber foot. How old? Vista computer.. make, model how old?
    2. How is TC connected into your network?
    3. Do the connectivity lights come on when you plug in the vista computer?
    4. If you swap win7 computer what speed does it link at.. 10, 100 or 1000mbps?
    5. If you set the vista computer to 10mbps does it link?
    6. If the vista computer works in a different LAN what speed does it link at?
    7. What happens if you remove the TC from the network, do a factory reset and then plug in the vista computer.. fully isolated from the existing network. Use a different patch cable.. known and tested to be good. just a short one is fine.
    8. Run the vista computer on linux boot disk so you can test the hardware.

  • Airport Utility 6.0 is regressive vs. 5.5

Very helpful settings of the Airport devices are no longer available in Airport Utility 6.0. Broadcasting rate and power, Mac adress access controls, WDS networks, IPv6 administration, Time server, Windows file sharing, Statistics, and more...
In few words, that's beyond understanding.
    Please, recover these essential features!

I upgraded from Airport Utility 5.5.3 to 6. on a bran new MackBook Air running OS Lion 10.7.2.
Then I upgraded 1 Time Capsule and 2 Airport Express (All 802.11n) from firmware 7.5.2 to 7.6.
After that I had issues with mac adresses acces control on the 3 devices : Every change made on either one of the 3 devices would automaticaly be duplicated on the 2 others ...
This is the correct behaviour. When you set up multiple AirPort routers correctly they form a Wireless Distribution System (WDS). In this configuration you only configure things like MAC address access control on the Main router. The other routers will follow the behaviour of the main one.
As I had kept the Airport Utility 5.5.3. on my Imac, I could easily downgrade my 3 airport devices to 7.5.2. Firmware (This option being no more avaliable in Airport Utility 6.) and I could go back to normality as far as mac adresses acces control are concerned on the 3 devices.
For the MacBook Air, the only solution I found was to restore my system from a Time Machine backup to go back from Airport Utility 6. to  5.5.3.
I am a bit confused ... Can I stay under Airport Utility 5.5.3. and Firmware 7.5.2 and eventually be able to upgrade later to a new release supposed to have this issue solved ?
You were suppose to update from Airport Utility v5.5.3 to v6 and download the separate AirPort Utility 5.6 and update your firmware to 7.6.1.
What about OS Lion 10.7.3. above all this ?
I am a bit reluctant to install it ...
Like many others I have been struggling with Time Capsule / Time Machine Issues since OS Lion 10.7.2. upgrade, (Just solved a few days ago by a user post forwarding an Apple Care workaround) and I am kid of split between the habit of being always up to date on all my devices, and the fear to get into months lasting troubles.
If you are having issues with Time Capsule / Time Machine it is a separate issue. I also have a Time Capsule and use Time Machine. I did not have any problems before the update and do not have issues after the update.
You need to solve your issues but do not think they are specific to any update, they must be tied to another error on your system.
How is it possible to have two different releases of the same Airport Utility installed on the same system ? (See NyKon post above) Is it a secificity to Airport Utility 5.6 and 6 ?
Apple is re-writing the AirPort Utility. Version 6 is the new version but is not complete yet. That is why they also released version 5.6.
Before restauring my system on my MacBook Air to to go back from Airport Utility 6. to  5.5.3., I tryied to download 5.5.3. from Apple site, it would successfully get istalled but 6. was still the only one running.
Thanks for your help, and I apologise if some of my questions may sound a bit naive to you ...

  • Can I connect an A1084 model Airport Express using current version of Airport Utility

Can I connect an A1084 model Airport Express using current version of Airport Utility?

You will need an older 5.x version of AirPort Utility to be able to administer the older AirPort Express.  That would mean that you need to have....or be able to borrow for 10-15 minutes......a Mac running Leopard (10.5.x), Snow Leopard (10.6.x), or a PC with AirPort Utility installed on the device.

  • Can I update my airport express station so I can connect to it with the newest airport utility?

the airport express worked with my old computer which had snow leopard. I just recently upgraded and got a new MacBook with mavericks and it won't let me connect to the airport. Any solutions to this problem without buying a new airport?

Unfortunately, updating the older Express that you have would require that you literally change all of the hardware on the device. Even if the parts were available....Apple does not offer them......it would likely cost more to "update" your old Express than buy a new Express.
You can use....or borrow for a few minutes....another Mac running Leopard or Snow Leopard, or a PC with AirPort Utility installed on the device to administer the older AirPort.
