Airport Utility Program crashed the MacBook Pro on quit
Hi,
just got my new Airport station.
I've installed the bundled software on my MacBook Pro and used the Airport utility 5.0 application to reconfigure an older base station. The MacBook was attached to the network only via Ethernet. The application worked fine, but when I quit the tool (command-q) the MacBook Pro crashed hard and was frozen. Restarting the MacBook Pro was followed by another crash during the boot procedure.
I was then shutting down the MacBook Pro and restarted it with Command-Option-P-R. This worked. The machine is back online.
Has anybody seen this, too?

Unfortunately I cannot help you but since you mention that your MacBook Pro crashes I want to share a similar problem and not start a new topic.
Since I connected an Airport Extreme my iMac G4 crashes (you must restart your computer holding ...) at least once a day. The iMac (with 10.4.9) is wired to the Extreme via one of the ethernet ports. All systems are go (green light, acces to internet, acces to my printer using the usb on the extreme etc.) The firmware on the extreme is 7.1 and airport utility is 5.1.
Fyi a laptop with XP has unlimited access to the wireless network without any problems using WPA/WPA2.
Does this sound familiar to anyone?

For disk repairs use Disk Utility. For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utilities are: Disk Warrior; DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible. Drive Genius provides additional tools not found in Disk Warrior. Versions 1.5.1 and later are Intel Mac compatible. An outstanding source of information is OS X Maintenance - MacAttorney.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.)
If you are using a pre-Leopard version of OS X, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep. Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger. (These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard, Lion, or Mountain Lion and should not be installed.)
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems. For more about malware see Macintosh Virus Guide.
I would also recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX 2.4.3, or Cocktail 5.1.1 that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack. If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line. Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. (There is no confirmation that this version also works with Lion or later.)
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):

8. Tri-Backup

Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity or 20 GBs, whichever is greater, as free space. -

I am trying to setup my new time capsule but it is not working. after entering the airport utility and locating the TC, after I tell the program to continue, the unit just disappear from the menu and the setup menu says there is an error. I tried using the wireless connection, and also the cable, but none worked. Any idea of what could be happening?
What are you setting it up as.. join wireless network .. the very worst setup, it will disappear.. reboot the whole network in order modem. router TC.. clients and it will likely reappear.
Tell us what network setup you are using..
If you setup with cable to a computer completely isolated from the network with TC also isolated.. finish the setup of everything you want. .before update.. then plug it into the network. .then restart everything in correct order.. it will work most of the time. -

No. The Mac does not have anything to run Windows
You must install either virtualizrion software or use BootCamp to create a partition for Windows. Once you have done that then you must install Windows.

VKBthere should be no reason why it wouldn't be, as that's a feature of the OS, not the hardware.

I have programmed iCal and Address book to sync via MobileMe. The info I type in iCal on the MacBook Pro get updated on the iPad, but not the other way around. Any hints?

IOS5 on iPad1, iPad2 and iPhone4S all with iCloud on. Lion 10.7.2 installed on my MacBookPro and iCloud set up/on. Any new iCal entry on either iPad or on the iPhone ends up via iCloud on both iPads and iPhone. BUT NOT ON THE MacBookPro. And iCal entry on the MacBookPro does NOT GET SENT to iCloud.com or to either iPad or the iPhone. This is a huge problem for me because I do all my office scheduling on the iPad or iPhone but rely on the MakeBookPro to print out daily client lists. I REALLY need to get this fixed...it is causing major business issues. " No one so far has had a fix.... :(

You can but make sure you upgrade your RAM to 16GB - you can't do that through Apple...
Autodesk is a memory intensive program and the same goes with 3D Studio Max.....
Another suggeston if you must use a 13 inch is to buy the base 13 inch Macbook Pro and upgrade the RAM to 16GB and install a SSD to make it perform fast.
Another option is to get a refurbished 15 Inch Macbook Pro and do the RAM upgrade yourself...Advantage going 15 Inch is because it has it's own discrete graphics adapter rather than the built in Intel video. -

I doubt it's Safari itself that's crashing, I'm going to assume it's a third party add-on. See this Apple article. Additionally, this is the MacBook Pro hardware forum, which is the reason why you did not get a speedy response.
