Airport utility stoped working

Using WIndows7, Airport Extreme, Airport Express and Airport Utility 5.5.3 for Windows.
When configuring Airport Express to extend wireless network then the software blows up and I get the "Airport Utility has stoped working" message.
Is this a known issue?
By the way, I have configured the Airport Extreme to allow extending the wireless network.
Thank you,
Jaime

Most issues associated with running the airport utilities under Windows comes from interference from virus protection and firewall software. my advice is to uninstall the airport utility and turn off all virus and firewall software, re-install airport and try again with the antivirur and firewall software disabled.

  • AirPrt Express dissapears from AirPort Utility after working fine for a bit

I got an Airport Express, set it up as connect to existing wifi network. All works fine, and the speakers show up in ITunes. But then suddenly after a couple of minutes of working fine, it just disappears from iTunes, and is also gone from AirPort Utility, although the light is still green on the AirPort Express unit.. I then have to reset and all restart and all sorts before it comes back. And the goes away again after a couple of minutes. This is not dropping out. It completely disappears, BUT the light on the Airport Express is still green?
    Any ideas?

My problem is almost the same. Today i set up my new Airport Express. It worked great. Then I tried to add another computer to the network. And it worked as well. But after one last change (can't remember now exactly which one) the AX resent and never came back. Got a green light but the Airport Utility no longer finds it. Tried soft, hard, factory resets. Green light all the way. But it's like it's not there. Neither computer "sees" it.
Any help would be a godsend.

  • I'm using OS X 10.6.8 my airport utility isnt working

I just got a new airport/time capsule, when started set up it said my current airport utility was out of date
i checked for softwear updates and didnt find that i needed one
i search the apple site and found an updated airport utility and downloaded it, however it said that it only works with OS X 10.7 or higher

Please review the System Requirements for the new Time Capsule in Apple's specifications:
    Setup and Administration
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 6 or later and AirPort Utility 1.3
Mac with OS X Lion v10.7.5 or later and AirPort Utility 6.3
    http://www.apple.com/airport-time-capsule/specs/
You will need to either update your Mac to at least Lion 10.7.5 or use AirPort Utility on an iPhone or iPad to be able to configure the new Time Capsule.

  • Time Capsule and Airport Utility Not working?

I just got Time Capsule, I tried to hook it up at my office by attaching it to the internet. I went through the steps to have it show up as one of my wireless devices. Even got the green light. However I must have set it up wrong because now airport utility cannot find the apple network and continually asks to RESCAN - the utility has dimmed out all my other options so all it does is rescan but can't find network etc etc. I would just like to reset everything and start from scratch but it won't let me. I"ve deleted my Airport Utility application and reinstalled but it still won't work. Any suggestions anyone.
    Rick

    Hi Rick,
Press the recessed reset button on the back of the Time Capsule for 5 seconds or so. This will reset all settings and let you find it in AirPort Utility. Also, you need to provide a bit more information about your current/intended network setup in order for us to provide any useful advice (ie, how will you connect to the Internet, what purpose your TC will serve such as Router, wireless device, etc.) And just FYI, deleting and reinstalling AirPort Utility is kind of futile as the reason it wasn't detecting your Time Capsule was because of the settings on the Time Capsule itself, but with the reset it should be able to detect it again.
Also, here is a useful Apple document that will give you more information about setting up networks:

    Hi,
After updating the 10.7.3 combo update, when I apply the Aiport Utility 6.0 update, it told me that a "unexpected error occurred". From that point on, the Airport Utility on my Mac is no longer functional. every time I launch the app, nothing happens, the icon don't even bounce on the dock.

  • AirPort Utility 5.6 no longer works on Mavericks.

Is there a way o make it work ? Do my first generation AirPort express that no longer appear on the newer AirPort Utility still work ? Their green light is on but they can no longer be managed.

    Look here: http://coreyjmahler.com/2013/10/24/airport-utility-5-6-1-on-os-x-10-9-mavericks/

  • Does anyone know if AirPort Utility 5.6.1 for Windows will work on Windows 8?

I have just purchased an airport express and need to install airport utility for windows v5.6.1.  I am currently running vista and the software wouldnt load so thinking about upgrading but would like to skip straight to windows 8 (which I can do) but I cannot verify anywhere that the airport utility will work as it only states Windows 7.

    Thanks mende1
It seems there are strange compatability issues......the specs for the Airport Express Base Station on the Apple website state:
    - that the station will work with Windows 7 or later.  This would imply it works with Windows 8 but is useless if there is no utility to support this.
    - that Shared Printing with a USB Printer will work with Windows Vista but again there is no utility software that will work on Vista so again it is a redundant specification.
So for PC users the new Airport Express will only work if you are running Windows 7??

  • Cannot Get AirPort Utility to Update/Work

I cannot get the AirPort Utility Version 6.0 to update on my machine. Worse, I can't get the AirPort Utility to work at all now because of the failed update. Any advice on how to fix the problem? I've tried to install the earlier update (5.6) but that doesn't work either...

This is a Lion issue....AirPort Utility 6.0 is now part of the operating system.....that has been discussed in a number of threads in the OS X Lion support area. Suggest that try over there.
I have not checked recently, but the "fix" mentioned in a number of thrreads (suggested by Apple) was to re-install Lion again. Things may have changed, so you would want to get full details and probably work with Apple directly on this.

  • Airport utility doesn't show the correct information

Hi - I am trying to get Airport Utility to work on my iMac (3.4 GHz Intel core i7, OS 10.8.4) but it does not show the correct information about my network. On my iMac, the utility consistently shows my Airport extreme and three Airport express as "Device Not Found". Yet the data suggests that is not correct: 1) Airport Utility on my older Macbook Pro shows all that all the devices are running fine; 2) Airport Utility on my iPhone shows that all the devices are working; 3) all the airport devices are showing green lights; 4) the wifi internet on my iMac works fine through my Airport Extreme; and 5) my music utility, Airfoil, routinely connects to all my airport express devices without a problem.
The only problem then is the Airport Utility on my iMac. How do I fix it?

If you are using 6.3 airport utility you must use ipv6 local link connection..

  • In Yosemite, Airport Utility Fails

When I open Airport Utility 6.3.4  in OS 10.10.1, I get a green light on Internet, but never see the Basestation. Thus I cannot update or configure it.
Anyone have a clue how to get Airport Utility to work in Yosemite?

    Do a backup.
    Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.airport.airportutility.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

  • Airport Utility Error -4?

    Hello.
I just switched ISPs and was given a new modem. The cable modem was successfully installed and I connected it to my Apple router (not sure of the exact model, I think it's the Airport express base station? It's really small and rectangular and plugs into the wall). I knew I would have to set up my router again, so I got on my laptop and opened Airport Utility. At first it couldn't find the router but I've had that problem before and it was easily fixed by resetting the router. Now, it found the router but when I click "continue" or "manual setup" it doesn't work. First, it connects to the wireless network and then there's a status bar and it says "Detecting Apple wireless devices. Please wait..."
Once it finishes an error comes up that says: "An error ocurred while trying to access the Apple wireless device. Make sure your network connection is valid and try again.
    Error              -4"
My network connection is working perfectly fine, I'm using it to browse the web as I'm typing this, and to post this question. I'm using version 5.5.3 of Airport Utility. I tried updating to 5.6.1 or whatever the latest version is, but I need Windows 7 SP1 and I unfortunately do not have blank CDs with enought space to install it. I tried installing it from Windows Update, but when I searched for updates it didn't return SP1. I'm not sure what else I can try. I need it to work so I can set a password for the network, and seeing the router's light glowing amber instead of green is very annoying.
    Can anyone help? Thank you!

Thank you. I tried following the tip but unfortunately, the same error appeared. Maybe I did the factory default reset uncorrectly, but I'm pretty sure I did it right. Here's what I did to reset the router:
Unplugged the router, then I got a pen and pressed the reset button. Still holding the button, I plugged in the router and let it power on. It flashed green for less than a second, went to yellow and then started flashing. I released the button, it stopped flashing but stayed yellow.
Is this the correct process? I then unplugged it again, then powered on the modem, then the base station and connected the two. I waited a while for them to get started up, then I went back on my laptop and opened airport utility. It recognized the router (yes, the SSID is "Base Station XXXXXX"). I went navigated to the Assist Me option under one of the drop down menus, but after the "Detecting Apple wireless devices" status bar, I got the same error.
Do you think it has something to do with my ISP (Time Warner Cable)? The error is suggesting it has something to do with my network connection, but like I said I'm using the internet just fine. I just need the Airport utility to work so I can secure the connection.

  • AirPort Utility Can't See Extreme via Non-Apple Bridge

I have an Apple AirPort Extreme Base Station serving my network. Connected to the APExtreme I have a non-Apple brand wi-fi router that's in bridge mode so that a few devices in another room can still get wired network and the upstairs section of the house that's too far from the AirPort can get Wi-Fi via the non-Apple router's Wi-Fi.
It all works fine and speeds are fast. However, my MacBook Pro is one of the devices hooked up to the non-Apple via wired Ethernet. When I open the AirPort Utility it doesn't see the APEXtreme.
Is this as expected or should it still be able to find the AirPort through the Bridge? If the latter is true, what's keeping mine from seeing it? Any suggestions?

You need to spell out the connection.. is this non-apple device connected by ethernet or is it a universal wireless repeater/bridge.
What is the make and model of the box that is acting as repeater.. also if 3rd party firmware tell us clearly what you are running.
In most wireless repeater, client bridge setups you have a big problem.. as all clients behind the repeater look like the same device to the main AE. It cannot tell what is who.. and is also likely to have bonjour issues.. which is essential for things like airport utility to work.

Try a manual access. Find the IP of the AE.. from something that is plugged into it.. if normal default router mode it will show, 10.0.1.1
    In airport utility have you
    1. Changed over to ethernet.. nothing will show without doing this.. it always defaults to wireless. In an extremely odd way ethernet devices are shown under Other Wi-Fi Devices.. isn't that completely obvious!!
    2. Ensure you have ipv6 set on ethernet to link-local only.
    3. If nothing shows up do it even more manually and type in the address you already discovered.
No password is needed if defaults.. but also type in your access password if you changed it.
You should then get the full summary screen.

  • Airport Utility Base station password

    Hello
I have the Airport Extreme router and I have also installed the Airport Utility programme on my win7 machines for convenience.
The win7 wireless machines including the Apple macbook always prompts for a password ( As I set-up Airport Utility to work this way ) but whenever I open the Airport utility which I have installed on the wired Ethernet desktop win7 machines, the Airport Utility never prompts for a password.
My question is can I force the Airport Utility on the desktop machines to prompt for a password ?
When I open the base station and select manual setup, then under base station I have un-ticked remember password in my keychain and then updated this, but whenever I reopen the Airport Utility the tick reappears and the Airport Utility opens without prompting for a password.
I must again stress that the wireless machines always prompt for the password.
    Thanks

Your desktop machine has already stored the Base Station password, so unchecking the box that tells the PC not to remember the password that it has already stored is not going to work.
I don't know where Windows keeps stored passwords, but if you do, you will need to access that file and delete the Base Station password there.
If you don't know how to locate the stored password file on the PC to erase the password, then the simplest thing to do might be to set up a new Base Station password, and make sure that the box next to "Remember password, etc" is not checked when you click to Update the new settings in AirPort Utility.

  • Airport Utility connection issues

I am running an Airport Extreme with airport express and having trouble connecting my PC. I have no issues with my MacBook or I-phone but when running Airport Utility on XP the Airport Utility can not locate the Extreme or Express. I have tried to connect through cable to the express and wi-fi with no luck and when trying to locate through windows it locates my network then when attempting to connect, I receive a message stating that the network is out of range (while the express is located next to the tower). Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated

didnt mean to enter that yet..
The Airport Extreme is accessable from my XP laptop, and I am connected and using the AE router wirelessly from my Vista laptop, so it is working.
Any ideas how to get the Airport Utility to work? I need access to the USB hard drive and the USB printer.
    Thanks

I am trying to setup my new time capsule but it is not working. after entering the airport utility and locating the TC, after I tell the program to continue, the unit just disappear from the menu and the setup menu says there is an error. I tried using the wireless connection, and also the cable, but none worked. Any idea of what could be happening?

What are you setting it up as.. join wireless network .. the very worst setup, it will disappear.. reboot the whole network in order modem. router TC.. clients and it will likely reappear.
Tell us what network setup you are using..
If you setup with cable to a computer completely isolated from the network with TC also isolated.. finish the setup of everything you want. .before update.. then plug it into the network. .then restart everything in correct order.. it will work most of the time.
