Airport Utility telling me to use new version to set up Time Capsule

I just purchased a 2 TB Time Capsule. I started to set it up with Airport Utility 5.4.2, but AU tells me that I need to use a newer version of AU to set up this Time Capsule.
Any help?

Here is the message I get:
"This version of AirPort Utility doesn't support this Apple wireless device and might improperly configure the device if you continue to use it. Use the version of AirPort Utility that came on the CD with your Apple wireless device. Check www.apple.com/support/airport for the latest version of AirPort Utility"
Isn't 5.4.2 the newest version of AU?

The Guest Network function of the Time Capsule and AirPort Extreme cannot be enabled when the device is in Bridge Mode. Unfortunately, with another router...the Telus...upstream on your network, Bridge Mode is indicated as the correct setting for all other routers on the network.
If you can replace the Telus gateway with a simple modem (that performs no routing functions), you should be able to configure either the Time Capsule or the AirPort Extreme....whichever is connected to the modem....to provide a Guest Network.

  • Setting up Time Capsule on a wired network using PPPoE

Hi. I just received a new Time Capsule and want to set up to provide service to my desktop and my laptop. It will be wired to the iMac and use wireless to the laptop (Macbook Air). My current router (a Linksys, not wireless by the way) is wired to the iMac. I access that router with Safari and set it up that way. I use PPPoE to connect to my ISP. So here are my questions (the Apple "manual" is a bit vague about the details).
    1) Connecting to the Time Capsule for setup. MUST I use Airport Utility or is there another method?
    2) Does the Time Capsule router (Airport Extreme, I assume) support PPPoE?
    3) I assume I can continue to let both machines connect using DHCP.
    4) Do I need to specifically assign addresses to the wireless network or will the Time Capsule router do that automatically?

    Welcome to the discussions, arbee!
    1) Connecting to the Time Capsule for setup. MUST I use Airport Utility or is there another method?
AirPort Utility is the only application available to configure the Time Capsule
    2) Does the Time Capsule router (Airport Extreme, I assume) support PPPoE?
During setup, you specify how you would like the device to connect, Ethernet or PPPoE
    3) I assume I can continue to let both machines connect using DHCP.
    Yes
    4) Do I need to specifically assign addresses to the wireless network or will the Time Capsule router do that automatically?
The Time Capsule will automatically assign each wired or wireless device a network IP address

  • Hi I am trying to connect a new mac to an existing time capsule but Airport Utility is just not picking it up. What am I missing?

I have tried to connect the new mac to an existing time capsule both directly through ethernet and through wifi. Both times I get Internet connection OK but Airport Utility is stuck searching for the base station. I have two existing macs which are connected fine and have both been backing up quite happily. The first two macs are the same user (me) and the new one is for a different user in the house. All the macs are running Mavericks.
I have tried rebooting the time capsule and the new mac - didn't help.
Any information as to what I can try would be most welcome.
    Many thanks

    Hi All
I have solved my problem! It was the old chestnut the firewall issue. We have McAfee firewalls on our machines and the wifi network was set up as a public rather than a home network. I changed it to Home or Work and het presto the time capsule appeared. I didn't have this problem with the other machines at all.
    I hope this helps someone!!

Bought 4th Gen 3TB TC - streaming TV over the internet is now so slow and now is constantly buffering.  It seems the Airport Utility is always 'searching for new networks' - don't know if this is the problem.  It's not the internet speed as checked that.  I took my old router upstairs and was streaming TV via my ipad seamlessly - the same program via the TC was constantly buffering.
I just expected to be able to plug in the TC, so a simple set-up and experience wireless both upstairs and downstairs in my house.  For some reason the range is low and speed veru disappointing.
I am far from being an IT expert but I would welcome advice about setting up this TC so we can enjoy the product as it was designed.  Please HELP!

No silver bullet........but my suggestions may drive you in the right direction.
    1.  Unplug the power cable from the TC and wait 10-15 minutes before powering back up.   Seriously wait!
Proceed to #2 if this dosen't help.
    2.  Unplug the power cable from the TC, ubplug the power cable from your Broadband Modem (assuming it's a cable modem), disconnect ethernet, and cable from modem.
2a.  Wait 10-15 minutes then re-connect cable, ethernet, and power back to modem (your modem should power up unless you have a power switch)  wait for all the modem lights to come on EXCEPT activity.
2b.  Connect ethernet from modem to TC, and plug in the power cable to TC.
Proceed to #3 if this dosen't help.
    3.  Reconfigure the TC.........Read here........http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3728
All really simple to do....if you need additional help let me (us) know.

  • Can I migrate multiple reports to a newer version at the same time?

If I have an older version of Crystal Reports can I migrate them all to a newer version at the same time?  Is there some documentation that will provide instructions?  I dont' want to have to upgrade them one at a time.
    Thanks - Mike

There is no utility that will do that for you. Not from SAP. Perhaps some 3rd party (google Ken Hamady), etc. Or, you could create an application in VS .NET or java to do it though.
But depending on what you are migrating from and what you are migrating to, you may not need to do any updating at all...

  • How to use AX1 for wireless audio and Time Capsule simultaneously?

I am trying AirFoil to Stream Pandora (Safari) to an amplifier and speakers in the next room connected to an older Airport Express.
I can play iTunes 11.0.1 (on a MacMini 2.26 GHz running 10.6.8) to this older Airport Express 802.11g (before N came out  - Is this called AX1st?) with the audio out the Express connected to my amplifier and speakers and wirelessly play my music. To do this I have to choose the Airport Express as my network device which means I loose my Time Capsule, which is the device with my internet connection.
Can you tell me how to stay on the internet with Time Capsule and stream to this Airport Express?
If I try to extend to this Airport Express I get an error message: "The Network You Selected cannot be extended." (I don't know if that is a "g" "n" thing or what?)
Do I need a newer Airport Express, or a Netgear or how to get Pandora to an amplifier in a different room, wirelessly?  Then the question will be, how to do this to three different amplifiers in three different rooms.

    How do I
Make your Express 'join' your Time Capsule's WiFi network in AirPort Utility. This will work wirelessly however your Express will not function as an extender in this mode.
    I'm Using Airport Utiity 5.6.1
In AU in "Aiport / WIreless tab" I hoped it would be as simple as the word 'Join' showing in the Wireless Mode drop down. But it does not.

  • How can my daughter use the hard drive in the Time Capsule ...

So, I am in Oklahoma and my daughter is in Tennessee...
She has a Time Capsule where the Wi-fi base station quit working, but the hard drive may be OK.
She bought an Airport Express to use as a wi-fi router.
    The question, then, is:
How can my daughter use the hard drive in the Time Capsule to do Time Machine backups?
Thank you very much for your insights.
    Roberto

It can be done but is very messy. That is assuming the TC is still functional which I kind of doubt.. the wifi is seldom the only thing that will die .. so whatever problems it has the wifi would be the least of it.
Anyway.. do a factory reset to get started.
    The Factory Reset Gen1-4.
Unplug your TC. Hold in reset. and power the TC back on.. without releasing reset for about 10sec. When the status light flashes rapidly; release it.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
If the LED is not lit then the TC is dead, not just the wireless.
The setup for using the TC is explained in the bottom of this thread.
TC in a second local network.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4817218?tstart=30
The idea is to set the TC to provide router function.. and the computer plugged in by ethernet to as a second network.. but there are rules on how this is done which I have explained in that thread.
I notice that Mountain Lion deals better with order of network priority than Snow Leopard used to .. so it might not need to have manually set gateway and dns.. although I would still recommend it. It simply stops the second network causing issues.
It is much easier to simply purchase an external drive and plug that in.
It is cheaper, faster and more reliable than using the TC for TM anyway.
Plus a lot of the later machines no longer have ethernet ports.. and using dongles is far from neat.. although thunderbolt to ethernet is IMHO necessary accessory for anyone without ethernet.

  • Attempting to use Migration Assistant to restore a Time Capsule backup to a mounted partitioned drive?

Had a power surge and my Mac Pro did not fare well. Was able to boot from one of the drives in read only mode, so I did a Time Capsule backup of everything on the drive. Reinstalled Mountain Lion. Booted the computer up and am trying to use Migration Assistant to take the Time Capsule backup and restore it to the 1TB drive. When I use Migration Assistant, it says that there is not enough space on the drive to do the restore. I looked in Disk Utility and saw that the start up disk is another one of the 1TB drives with about 600GB used, therefore not enough space to do the restore. I want to restore to the original drive, but it says it is a "Mounted Partitioned Drive". Can I use Migration Assistant to restore a Time Capsule backup to this mounted partitioned drive?
Thanks in advance for any help - greatly appreciated.

I am not sure, never had to go there, I have multiple bootable clones of the system online and off, and a couple 1500VA/900W UPS units powering everything.

If you are syncing using iCloud, try going to System Preferences/iCloud (computers) and checking Safari. If it is checked, try deselecting it, wait 10-15 seconds, and then check it again.

I have set up Time Capsule to use with Time Machine but when I open Time Machine it 'cannot find' the Time Capsule and I have to 'Select the Disk' each time. In the Next Backup tab it always says "When disk is connected" even though the disk is already connected.

Your pro doesn't matter.. I presume it is happily working.
Your imac setup has got messed up because you changed from a local (my book being USB type I presume) to network drive. Did you do a clean install of Lion?
Did you use the backup from the Pro on the imac? Otherwise I don't see how the Pro shows up in use previous disk. Where is Pondini when you need him??
You cannot download Time Machine as an App and replace the current version. It is built into the OS.. the only way to do it is a clean install. Unfortunately that might be the only way around the issue.
There is a number of issues that Pondini has covered in the setup issues of troubleshooting.
This is the most relevant I think. http://pondini.org/TM/B6.html
But look at the whole section B setup problems.
    http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
If it was me, I would store all the info you need.. not using TM but using a straight copy of files.
Then clean install Lion. I doubt any of these issues would exist if you had not installed Lion over existing setup or used a different backup.
See if you can get Pondini to respond.. !!

  • Setting up Time Capsule, Airport Extreme, and old AP Express...

Question regarding setting up a wireless network in the home.
I currently have the following Apple wireless networking products:
    Time Capsule - Model A1254
    Airport Extreme - Latest model
Airport Express - Model A1084 (older model unit)
I also have a Verizon router with wireless capabilities.
I am trying to provide wireless coverage throughout my entire home. The Verizon router is in the basement, and I have the wireless portion turned off.
I have ethernet running to my office on the first floor from the Verizon router in the basement as well as ethernet running to the second floor. In my office I put the Time Capsule, while the Airport Extreme is on the second floor.
Since both the Time Capsule and the Airport Extreme have ethernet providing their internet connection, I am curious to know what is the best way to set them up to provide wireless support to laptops.
Should they both be configured with the same SSID but with different channels? Should they be configured with different SSIDs? What settings will provide the most seamless (Apple-like) experience? What will provide the best bandwidth?
Lastly, should I set up the Airport Express with WDS? Should I ditch it altogether since it bottlenecks the performance of the WDS main router?
    Any advice would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Ivan

+Should they both be configured with the same SSID but with different channels?+
Yes, if you want one "large" network. A laptop could "roam" around the house and automatically pick up the strongest signal.
No, if you want two separate wireless networks. In this case, you would need to switch networks depending on the location of your laptop in relation to the nearest router.
Make sure both the Time Capsule and AirPort Extreme are configured with their Connection Sharing setting to "Off (Bridge Mode)".
The ethernet backbone on your network will provide for the best possible bandwidth...much better than if you try to extend using wireless only.
+should I set up the Airport Express with WDS?+
Ideally, you would set the AirPort Express up the same as the Time Capsule and AirPort Extreme...using ethernet to the AirPort Express. WDS will kill your bandwidth on the wireless network, cutting it in half. If you can't connect the AirPort Express using ethernet, you will probably be much better off simply not using it.

  • As a Verizon FIOS client, can we just use Ethernet cable to connect to time capsule, or do we need their router to connect to the time capsule?

As a Verizon FIOS client, can we just use Ethernet cable to connect to time capsule or do we need the Verizon router to connect to time capsule?

The Time Capsule is indeed a wireless router with simultaneous dual band capability...and a hard drive for backup purposes. You can use that to your advantage if you configure the Time Capsule as I suggested in Bridge Mode.
The Time Capsule will provide a 802.11n 5 GHz band and a 802.11n/g/b compatible 2.4 GHz band to allow virtually any device to connect to the network.
I suppose that you could also use the "g" wireless network provided by the Verizon router as a "guest" network or something similar if you really do need another wireless network.
It might be possible to configure the Time Capsule as the main router on the network....that's a question for Verizon. But even if you might be able to do this, I'm sure it is not supported by Verizon, so you would be on your own in the event of any Internet connection difficulties on your service.
And, since the Time Capsule does not have a built in modem....you would still need to add a separate modem to the installation anyway.
That's why my suggestion is to use the Verizon device as the "modem" and let the Time Capsule provide the dual band wireless network and of course, handle the Time Machine backups.
