Airport Utility will no longer configure AX since 10.5.6

After I updated Leopard to 10.5.6 Airport Utility won't configure my Airport Express.
I start AU and it shows the AX on the left side. I click it and it displays all the info in the right window.
When I click "Manual Setup" the beach ball just spins forever
AU is Version 5.3.2 (532.8)
I havve google this but no joy. Also I can get to it from a windows image (under vbox) using windoze AU

You can try running the combo updater over your install but you might need to re-install Lion. Both options should not erase your data but if you do the re-install of Lion it's recommended that you backup first as a precaution.
OS X Lion Update 10.7.5 (Client Combo) 1.91 GB

To re-install, boot into the Recovery drive and select to Reinstall OS X.
Hold down Command R when restarting to enter Recovery drive.

External hard drive connected to my airport extreme will no longer open, when navigating to it in Finder, the Finder window quits and reopens, cannot access hard drive, it is visible in airport utility, since the problem began I have updated firmware on Extreme as well as both of my Airport Expresses. Hard drive is USB connected to Extreme.

Reboot the USB drive.. assuming it is powered.. or unplug and replug a self-powered drive.. (you should not use self-powered drives on AE before the latest model.. always use a powered hub).
Does the drive now appear in finder..
If not reboot both drive and the AE.. it should now appear.
If it doesn't work with direct connection try a powered hub.. that can help.

  • After port forward, airport utility can no longer see my time capsule

I tried to forward public port 1025 to private port 80 on a raspberry pi using  airport utility. But after I did that,  the airport utility can no longer see my time capsule. Wifi still works correctly. Are there any conflicts about port 1025? How to fix that other than resetting the time capsule?
    Thanks,
    Michael

It doesn't sound like a port that is used.
From the standard google search.. nope.
    Reboot the whole network..
No luck tell me what OS version you are running the utility on and what model and firmware TC???
Note with Yosemite, anything can and will happen.

  • How can I reformat my Mac Book Pro without using disc utility? My laptop keeps crashing, and needs to have everything reinstalled, but disc utility will no longer open, saying it 'quit unexpectedly'. I'm running Mac OS X10.6.8. I've lost install CD.

My laptop keeps crashing. This seems to happen only when it's streaming from sites such as Netflix, YouTube or Spotify.
Also, it stopped being able to run iTunes, and can't download Yosemite.
I want to wipe it and reinstall everything - I've already done a full back up.
The problem is disc utility will no longer open, saying it 'quit unexpectedly':
I'm running Mac OS X10.6.8 and I've lost install CD.
I have no idea what to do, but need to get this sorted as quickly as possible as I need my laptop for work.

Even if you could open Disk Utility you can't reformat a disk while you are booted from it. You will have to use the install CD. Ring the Apple Online Store at the number given at bottom left of this page and give them the serial number of your Mac. You should be able to get the Snow Leopard install disks for a nominal fee.

  • Airport Utility can no longer see my Airport Express Base Station.

    Hi all the problem I have is as follows;
I've set up my Airport Express Base Station some time ago to print wirelessly from my HP Photosmart C4280 and it was working fine.
However recently when I've gone to print a document, even though the printer is working fine and the Airport Express Base Station is showing a green light nothing happens. I've gone into the Airport Utility and its say's it can't see the Airport Express Base Station (even though it still has a green light showing). If I unplug the Airport Express and plug it in again, the Airport Utility can suddenly see it again.
I've successfully gone through the reset process but after a few minutes the Airport Utility can no longer see the Airport Express Base Station which means I can't print a document wirelessly. I've repeated the reset process several times with the same outcome.
Everything was working fine up until recently, has the Airport Express Base Station developed a fault? or is there something I'm not doing.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you're comfortable resetting all settings, unplug it, hold down the reset button and keep holding it in as you plug it back in - keep holding it for another 10-20s until the amber light flashes
Then, open airport utility, now you should be able to see the device either on-screen or in the upper left under 'other wi-fi devices'

  • TS2220 the following message applies to my airport Utility: This version of AirPort Utility doesn't support this base station. Use AirPort Utility 5.6 to configure or manage this base station. AirPort Utility 5.6 is available at AirPort Service and Suppor

This version of AirPort Utility doesn't support this base station. Use AirPort Utility 5.6 to configure or manage this base station. AirPort Utility 5.6 is available at AirPort Service and Support.
This is the message I have recieved in installing my AirPort Utility... Can anyone help me?

Old AirPort base stations and Time Capsules aren't compatible with AirPort Utility 6.2, so you have to use AirPort Utility 5.6. As you have already updated, you can't install AirPort Utility 5.6 by the normal way.
To install AirPort Utility 5.6 on your MacBook Pro, follow these steps > http://frank.is/mountain-lion-and-the-old-airport-utility/

  • HT4262 This version of AirPort Utility doesn't support this base station. Use AirPort Utility 5.6 to configure or manage this base station. AirPort Utility 5.6 is available at AirPort Service and Support.

In my Airport Utility a read the following message:
This version of AirPort Utility doesn't support this base station. Use AirPort Utility 5.6 to configure or manage this base station. AirPort Utility 5.6 is available at AirPort Service and Support." What do I have to do ?? I can use my airport.

I assume that your MacBook Pro is running OS X Mountain Lion ... correct? If so, version 5.6 can run just fine on this version of OS X; it just can't be installed in the traditional way.
Here are the basic steps to install version 5.6 under Mountain Lion using CharlesSoft's Pacifist:
If you haven't already download the AirPort Utility disk image file directly from Apple Support Download
Place the resultant AirPortUtility56.dmg file onto your Mac's Desktop.
    Run Pacifist.
Click on the Open Package option. Find the disk image file that you just placed on your desktop, and then, click on Open.
The utility is located as follows: Contents of AirPortUtility56.dmg > Contents of AirPortUtility56.pkg > Contents of AirPortUtility56Lion.pkg > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility 5.6.app
Drag AirPort Utility 5.6.app to your Mac's /Applications/Utilities folder.
You can now run the AirPort Utility from the Utilities folder.

  • Itunes and airport utility will not recognize AE despite status green

I am trying to onfigure my vista pc and airport extreme base station to stream music wirelessly via an AE. I have read the posts and with AE connected via an ethernet connection it shows up in itunes under my computer tab and everything is ok. However when I disconnect the ethernet cordm the status light on both the AE and airport extreme (when I plug it back into my only eternet connection) both show green, yet neither itunes nor airport utility will recognize the AE. Also tried using windows network tab to add the AE as a wireless device but it also does not find it.Can anyone help me further with this? Very frustrating

For your express to show up in your globe-view thingy....  you need to either select the network that the express is broadcasting from the wifi drop-down.... or select the network that it is a part of.

  • Updated airport utility will not work on older Airport Extreme

I have a mid-2011 Macbook Air with OS 10.9.4. So that's up-to-date. I recently updated my Airport Utility to version 6.2. I have an old Airport Extreme. The new Airport utility will not work with the old Airport Extreme. Apple will not let me download the older Airport Utility, because I have a newer one installed: classic Catch-22. Any ideas? I need to find out my SSID to connect with a new Denon AVR receiver. Is there any way to find out my SSID with Airport Utility?

You must first uninstall AU 6.2 before you can install an older version. This may be removed by the mods so get it while you can:

  • After configuring my airport express, airport utility can no longer see it.

Configuring airport express seems to make it invisible to itunes and the airport utility that configured it. This seems to have started happening since Yosemite.

Sorry, can you explain what you mean by the AirPort Express is invisible to iTunes.
In any case, it sounds like something glitches when setting up the APE. Reset it using these instructions, then configure it again to see if that helps:

  • Loaded Mountain Lion and time capsule no longer works, airport utility can't be configured, back ups have stopped, sparse bundle in use errors occur, what a mess!!!!

Should Airport Utility now be defunct for my time capsule because I have upgraded OS to Mountain Lion? I have tried every fix I can think of but AU will not set up. I'm also getting repeated time machine back up failures and now I have a new "sparsebundleinuse" error which is totally useless to me, I have no idea what a sparse bundle is, I have no idea what it's suddenly being used by and there's no information to say what to do about it. Apple is killing me here!!!

I've tried to but on the install for Airport Utility 6, after the download I get through the introduction then the license then I get "airport utility can't be installed on this disk. The version of Mac OS X on this volume is not supported" and that's it, no more options!?

  • New airport utility is no longer working with my printer.

I just upgraded to the new airport utility (6), which seems like it was, overall, a bad idea. Since the update I can no longer print. Most of the time, the printer says that it is connected. When I attempt to print (it doesn't matter from what program) it says that it is printing, yet nothing happens. Occasionally it will sit, checking ink levels forever. even more occasionally it will say that it is not connected at all (though in the settings, it simply says that it is idle). Unfortunately, installing the previous verison is not an option. When I try, it tells me that it is not compatible with my current OS (10.8.3). I have a 500 GB Time Capsule (Model #: A1254), an HP OfficeJet 4200 Series printer, and a Mid-2009 2.53 GHz 13" Macbook Pro.

You can install the previous version of airport utility.. there are several guides on web.. just google them.. but here is mine which is fairly easy to do and has big advantage.. the unpkg software is free.
How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 (now 6.2 if you updated) so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.

  • Time Capsule seen by AirPort Utility, but can't configure (direct Ethernet connection)

Everything started with a Time Machine error stating that the Sparse Image was not able to be created - support document guided me to check machine name, which for whatever reason had a "(2)" after it.  I edited the name back to the original name without the "(2)", but it made no difference.  Tried restarting the TC, and when it came back up it showed a yellow indicator in AirPort Utility, stating that the TC Disk had errors.  Followed another article saying to erase the disk, and start over.  I initiated the erase, which quickly got to the message "finishing erase...", or the like, and just stayed there for more than 10 minutes.  There was no option to cancel or quit.  Finally gave up and pulled power on TC.  After restarting, and Green indicator came back on, the wireless network was working, but I could no longer get into configure from within AirPort Utility - the operation would just time out after a few minutes with a message saying to make sure it was in range (even though I am connected via Ethernet cable directly to TC).  After trying to disconnect a few more times with no change, and a soft reset did not change anything, I performed a Factory Reset (pulled plug, depressed and held reset button, plugged back in and waited for rapid flashing yellow indicator, released).  Upon Factory Reset the TC again showed up in AirPort Utility with the default name, but again I was unable to configure - same error.  Now networking and wireless still "works", but of course everything is back to defaults, and wide open.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your support!
    Jeff

Ok - had to wait until I was back at the location that has this Time Capsule to try your suggestion.  I unplugged the TC for over an hour, then plugged everything back in, and waited for it to show up in AirPort Utility again (TC showing a slow flashing yellow indicator - remember, I have already tried to do a factory reset, or hard reset before my original post).  I depressed the reset button and held it for more than 30 seconds, with no change to the flashing indicator, and nothing changed when I released it either.  I again tried a hard reset by unplugging the TC, (wait a bit), and depressing/holding the reset button, and plugging it back in again.  Soon after that, I get the quick flashing yellow indicator.  Since I didn't get very far with this last week, I continued to hold reset button, and after about 30 seconds it stopped flashing altogether, and stayed off.  I then released the reset button, and the TC restarted, and showed up in AirPort Utility again, but still am unable to go into configure it - it just times out trying to connect, and give the same message:
"An error occurred while reading the configuration. Make sure your AirPort wireless device is plugged in, and in range of your computer or connected via Ethernet and try again. (-6753)"
I'm going to take the TC with me this time, and take it to an Apple store, I just know that they are going to say it's dead, and would like to know that I have tried everything else before hand.
Thanks for your advice, and it you (or anyone else) have any further suggestions, please let me know - it is greatly appreciated.
    Take care!
    Jeff

  • Airport Utility won't read configuration of Airport Extreme Error -6753

I've been using this Airport Extreme and computer configuration (along with AppleTV2 and Airplay, etc.) without any issues for almost a year now.  Recently I wanted to extend my wireless network by adding an Airport Express, so I tried to reconfigure the Airport Extreme base station in Airport Utility, and that's when all the trouble started...
Problem: When using Airport Utility to try to set up the AirPort Extreme Base Station, Airport Utility recognizes the AE (Amber light), but fails to read the configuration and eventually times out with: "An error occurred while reading the configuration. Make sure your Apple Wi-Fi base station is plugged in and in range of your computer or connected via Ethernet and try again. (-6753)"
The strange thing is, I'm still connected to the internet and able to surf around.  The light on the base station is slowly flashing Amber.  Ever since resetting, the AE has been renamed to its default and is no longer password protected.
I Googled around the interweb looking for solutions, and have already put in a few hours now trying lots of suggested fixes, including:
    Soft reset
    Hard reset
    Factory reset
"Configure Other" workaround in Airport Utility
    Installed 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1
Verified and Repaired Disk Permissions in Disk Utility
Trashed SystemConfiguration Folder in Macintosh HD/Library/Preferences and restarted
I've tried most of these multiple times and nothing has worked so far.
The launching point for most of my repair attempts is here: http://blogs.computerworld.com/18577/pre_lion_os_x_10_6_8_update_kills_airport_n etworks

Update: After first posting I tried to set up the Airport Express on its own, going back to exactly the same set up that was working perfectly for a couple years.
Airport Utility behaves exactly the same way and returns the same error in the same way with the AX as it does with its big sister the AE.
I guess this leads me to conclude it's not a hardware problem with either Airport, but rather something to do with OS 10.6.8 and/or Airport Utility 5.5.3.  No closer to a solution, but closer to the cause-- I think...
Any help here would be doubly greatly appreciated.  Thank you!

  • Airport Express will no longer connect to my network or be found in iTunes

I've had an Airport Express connected to powered speakers for airplay for about two years. Worked great until yesterday when iTunes told me it could no longer find my AE on the network. I tried a factory reset but the air utility wasn't able to find the AE even after several rescans. It was able to find it when connecting with an ethernet cable, but was never able to verify the network wirelessly after a restart. Thinking that the AE had gone bad, I bought another.
Unfortunately, I'm having the same issues setting up:
Air Utility cannot find the AE wirelessly to set up. It can only find it when plugged in via ethernet
I can go through the set up process just fine via ethernet. Several times it cannot verify the network (error 10057) after unplugging the hard line, but several times I have gotten a green light, only to recieve either a 15006 error or a "Itunes could not find the AE device on your network error" when attempting the do airplay in itunes
After the 15006 error, the AE dissapears from Airport Utility and I have to start over
The AE DOES appear as a connected device in my router's configuration utility
    Here's what I've tried:
Factory resets of both the AE (old and new) and my router (model M1424WR)
Moving the AE and powered speakers into the same room as the router to confirm that it's not a range issue
    Tweaking router settings
Turning off my router security key to see if that was interfering with the AE's wireless connection
    What else?

Try loging into your router settings and just change the name of your network.  That usually works for me.
