Airport Utility won't connect to updates server...

Went back four pages in the forums, couldn't find this.
I'm trying to update my airport express firmware, yet every time I tell it to look for updates, it says it cannot connect to the updates server, and that I should check my network settings.
Trashed the plist, checked the network interface order, nothing works... Obviously my connection is good.
Have two airport expresses, one G, one N in a WDS setup.
Anybody else having this problem?
It's always done this, and it's only worked once that I can remember.

  • AirPort Utility won't connect to AirPort for configuration

I was playing around earlier today with port mapping/static IP assignments, configuring my BitTorent client, when my AirPort network started to keep dis/reconnecting at regular intervals. I stopped what I was doing, and decided to reset the APX and start from scratch, and leave things as they were.
*The problem is, AirPort Utility often doesn't recognize the APX at all, and if it does it won't connect within the utility in order to configure the APX.*
This is strange, because after a hard reset, the AirPort icon in the menu bar shows will often connect to the now-generic, out-of-the box name Apple Network f790b07 but STILL AirPort Utility will NOT 'join network' in order to configure the APX.

  • Airport Utility has trouble connecting to my Airport Extreme

I have a home network with two airport extremes (a dual band airport extreme as my main router, and an older one I use to extend the wireless network). I also have a few airport express units that I use for Airtunes.
My network is working perfectly, but Airport Utility won't connect to my main Airport Extreme. If I click on the router inside of Airport Utility and try to modify any settings, it shows "Reading the Airport Extreme configuration ..." and hangs there. After a few minutes, it gives up.
It is the new dual band version, and it is directly connected to my Mac Pro via ethernet. I can use Airport Utility to connect to all my other routers without any problem (and all traffic has to route through my main airport extreme since my Mac Pro does not have wireless).
If I reboot my main router, Airport Utility is able to connect to the router for a few hours before it becomes unreachable again.
Its not a huge problem ... I just need to reboot it when I want to modify / check settings, although rebooting the router does disturb a lot of things on my network which is annoying (VPNs, network drives that need to be reconnected, etc.).
Other than Airport Utility not being able to connect to the router, the router seems to be working perfectly.
The router used to work perfectly, but it started doing this about 3 months back. As far as I can remember, there were no firmware / software updates that might have caused the problem ... it just started happening all on its own.

    Hi Shadow99999
Did you ever resolve your issues with disconnection between your Mac Pro and Airport Extreme? I am having a similar issue.
I have had the extreme for about 4 months and I loose access to the internet about once a month. When I try to troubleshoot the Airport Extreme it is usually inaccessible from my Mac Pro which is my wired access point. The Airport Utility times out with a network error number that unfortunately I did not write down. The light is still green but nothing seems to be working. The first time I tried plugging and unplugging ethernet wires and accessing wirelessly through a Macbook but now I just unplug the Airport Extreme and replug (a Microsoft solution with no problem resolution.) Today I had some unusual internet traffic on my DSL modem and I wanted to look at the Airport Extreme but again I was unable to get to the Airport Extreme with the Airport Utility on my MacPro. (Everything up to the latest rev. per software update.)
The lack of access between the Airport Extreme and a wired computer is really frustrating and may drive me back to my trusty five year old Buffalo Airstation. I could at least log in when I suspected there was a problem. Loss of internet access with the Buffalo was down to maybe once every 6 months to year and lock ups to wired access even rarer.
Any other thread that you found to help you resolve your problem?

I just bought a new pc and for our internet connection we have an airport express. My laptop can connect to it but my airport utility won't recognize it. Even though it does connect to the internet about every 15 minutes the internet shuts off. What should I do?

If you've not yet tried, unpower the AppleTV for a minute or so and restart - this occasionally corrects issues.
If not and the software update seems to have caused an issue, go to the Settings menu and choose to Restore it (this will erase all settings) to reapply current firmware.
Alternatively try to do so via iTunes:
If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen on your Apple TV - Apple Support

  • Windows - Airport Utility won't recognize Express plugged into Home stereo.

I am trying to set up the express to stream music to home stereo exclusively. I currently have a NETGEAR 108 Mbps (WGT624 v2) router set up on a Windows XP. Airport Utility won't recognize the device. Any ideas on how to make this thing work while keeping existing network? Thanks so much.

Let's double-check your AX's configure to receive audio via AirTunes.
Please reconnect the AX back to the Netgear before running the AirPort Utility.
Ok, compare your settings to the following within the AirPort Utility using Manual Setup:
    AirPort > Base Station
o Base Station Name: <rename or leave default>
    o Base Station Password: <enter desired password>
    o Verify Password: <re-enter desired password>
o Remember this password in my keychain: (optional)
    o Set time automatically: (unchecked)
    AirPort > Wireless
o Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
    o Network Name: <existing Netgear's wireless network>
o Wireless Security: <select the encryption type of the existing wireless network>
o Wireless Password: <enter the existing wireless network password>
o Verify Password: <re-enter the existing wireless network password>
    Music
    o Enable AirTunes (checked)
o iTunes Speaker Name: <enter desired speaker name>
    o iTunes Speaker Password: (optional)
    o Verify Password: (optional)
o Click Update to write the new settings to the AX
    In iTunes:
    iTunes > Preferences... > Advanced > General
o Look for remote speakers connected with AirTunes (checked)

  • Airport Utility won't let me change time capsule settings....

I've had my TC about 2 weeks, and haven't had any problems until now....
when I am in close proximity, i use it with an ethernet cable, and if i am in other parts of the house i will set it to transmit wirelessly. up until now there hasn't been any problems with this. now however, it is connected via ethernet, and when i open airport utility it recognises the TC, but when i click continue to update the settings and change it back to wireless, it get's stuck on the "reading the time capsule's configuration..." page, and after five minutes says "there was an error with the connection-6722".
I can read files from the TC and write to it. i just can't update the settings! can anyone help??
    thankyou.

    crillix wrote:

This has me a bit confused as to why you're doing this.
I say this because my Macbook is sometimes directly connected to the TC over a wired network connection, and sometimes wirelessly via the TC. It has no trouble backing up regardless of what connection is utilized. I just leave the wireless enabled on the TC, and so have no need to re-configure the TC. I can read the TC configuration with the Airport Utility via either connection.
I'm not sure this helps, but am I missing something??
Mac OS X, Airport Utility & TC all at latest levels......

The Utility transferred all of the AE's settings, so I still have to change the password, which leaves me with only 2 other questions, I think:
    1)  I assume it's just a matter of using the Utility, entering a stronger password and checking for it to be remembered in Keychain Access.  But do I have to  change the password for each individual unit-- the TC, the Extreme and both Expresses-- or will changing it just for the TC alone work for the entire network?
Resetting the password you will need to do for each device... the utility cannot even see those old units.
So you will have to do it for each one.. think it through.. because as you change passwords the others will lose connection.. so start from the express which are wireless extending .. change those first.. and go back up the chain.. as each one changes it will drop off the network.. until you reach extreme and change that. Then you might need to reboot the whole network to get everything talking again. If something goes wrong.. just pluck that one out of the mix and plug in ethernet.. reset and redo the setup. That is my preferred method anyway.. do everything in isolation one by one. By ethernet and then nothing goes wrong.
    2)  Who's the treasonous SOB who spilled the beans to you about the ICBM in my back yard?!?
    N.Korean hackers.
[Edit] Whoops-- one more question:  I want to partition the TC's disk, but Disk Utility doesn't see it.  What do I need to do?
You cannot partition a network disk. And apple provided no tools for it in the TC itself. You can pull the disk out and partition it but that voids your warranty. (although done with care who is to know).
    Look at Q3 here.
    http://pondini.org/TM/Time_Capsule.html
Mixing TM and data on the TC is worth planning carefully. They don't necessarily sit happily together.

  • New aebs and airport utility won't recognize my (2) airport express'

I have an new (n) aebs and can't get airtunes to work now. Only get flashing amber on the two ax and the new airport utility won't pull up the ax's, only the aebs. Have turned off ipv6 but no difference.

How are you connected? Meaning, how is the Mac
running the AirPort Utility attached to the new
AEBS(n) and the AX's? Your problem is likely that the
AX's are already named and configured to operate in
the old network, but your connection method doesn't
    provide visibility to them...
Thank you for posting back to me. I finally got them to work and your explanation I thinks explains to me what happened. (I got them up and running just before I saw your reply.) I unplugged both of them and connected them via an ethernet cable to the new aebs and also did a hard restart for both. They then showed up with their alphanumeric titles, not the titles I had given them. Airport Utility recognized them after that. Hopefully my experience and your explanation will help others too. Thanks again.

  • If I have my iMac internet sharing turned on, the Airport Utility won't recognize the Airport Express I want to use to stream iTunes to my stereo.  When I turn the iMac internet sharing off, the Airport Express appears but calls itself a base station.

If I have my iMac internet sharing turned on, the Airport Utility won't recognize the Airport Express I want to use to stream iTunes to my stereo.  When I turn the iMac internet sharing off, the Airport Express appears but calls itself a base station.  I just bought the Airport Express and it's not clear how I should set up my System Preferences for Sharing.  Thx

Yes. Unfortunately the stereo is too far from the wired ethernet connection   My iMac is connected to the internet using an ethernet cable from the DSL modem (plugged into the wall, not wireless).  The Airport Express is plugged into an outlet 25' away from the iMac and connected to my speakers.  I've turned on the iMac Airport wireless Internet Sharing, hoping to stream iTunes to the Express connected to the stereo.  The iMac Airport picks up several neighborhood networks so I know it's working (and I connected my iPhone wifi to it just to check as well).
When I use Airport Utility to set up the Express, the only time Utility recognizes the Express is when the iMac Airport is off.  When I turn on the iMac Airport, the Airport Utility immediately loses the Express and asks to rescan.
Maybe that explains my problem better.
