Airport utility wont connect from my windows 8 pc to my airport extreme

my airport extreme is model number A1408 and I am using a windows 8 pc to try and use the Airport utility app to connect to my base station to port forward and ive done it before but now it wont detect my router even though im connected to the wifi from it and when i try to manualy connect it gives me error -6753 can anyone help me?

Figured it out. To print wirelessly via airport express 2nd generation you have to do some things. Download the bonjour printer thing mentioned above and have the printer plugged in to the airport express. Then run the bonjour printer thing and select your connected printer and install. Where I went wrong was I tried to print from my hp printer (1). When you install a printer with bonjour to print wirelessly it installs the same printer (2) so it's like there's 2 different printers in word or whatever you use to print.  You have to select the one that says ready. Thanks for everyone's help

How do I connect to Time Capsule from a Windows 8.1 machine which is on a Windows domain. I have been able to connect from a Windows 7 machine on a Windows domain to a Time Capsule. Airport utility is not displaying the Time Capsule Win8.1 machine.
I have checked that the firmware has been updated to 7.6.4 . Similalrly the Win8.1 machine has been loaded with the update specified in another discussion.

Firstly how are you connecting to the TC.. wireless or ethernet?
Please open a command window and ping it.. ping by name and by IP address.
If ping succeeds at least by IP it should work.
    In windows explorer type
\\10.0.1.1 (or whatever the TC ip is.. that is the default).
Having the airport utility for windows loaded can help the process. As it loads bonjour for windows.
7.6.4 firmware on the TC is useless. It works better on 7.6.1
If the ping does not succeed by either name or IP address yet you have internet through the TC, then your network is setup wrongly. You are have firewalls blocking local IP. Take down all the firewalls.

  • RV110W drops PPTP connections from a Windows client (MS CHAP v2 and MPPE)

This might be a tough problem to diagnose. I am trying to setup an RV100W for an office gateway with VPN access using PPTP. The office is located in another state, so I'm trying to do a "dry run" from home by setting up the RV110W on the local network. That is, my home network is 192.168.0.0 and I have assigned the RV110W a static IP address of 192.168.0.120 on its WAN side and a DHCP NAT internal network of 192.168.1.0. Its LAN IP is 192.168.1.2 (because of legacy limitations, the 192.168.1.1 address will be reserved for another host on the actual office network) and I set up the PPTP server on 192.168.1.3 and clients in the 192.168.1.20 to 24 range. I have enabled MPPE encryption and NetBIOS over VPN (rather important to have).
At first, I couldn't login at all. I had an underscore (_) in the user names (of which I have setup all five) and after I changed that, I was able to connect from a Windows 7 x64 host on the home LAN (192.168.0.132). I don't know if that was the problem as I got disconnected and reconnecting was a hit-or-miss - sometimes it would work, sometimes - it wouldn't. Below is the log from the session, showing the reasons for the disconnection. When I try to connect and it gets rejected, otherwise, the reason is the same: protocol not available.
But, first - here's the kicker. I had the exact same experience earlier with a DD-WRT router. I thought the problem lied with the amateurish firmware and that's why I decided to get the Cisco, but it seems like this might not be the problem, after all. Here is that discussion for full details: http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=149951&highlight= (to see all of the attached images and logs, you'll need an account). Briefly, with the same setup, I can establish a stable VPN connection from four Windows XP clients and one Windows 7 client, but I get the problems with two other Windows 7 clients. The Win7 clients that give me trouble can connect just fine to other PPTP VPN servers (with the built-in Microsoft PPTP client) and all three Win7 machines are clones of each other (only the hardware is different). No software firewalls, anti-virus/malware, user-permission limitations (e.g., UAC), or anything that could hamper the connections, are present on either machine.
I don't see how the fact that the RV110W is on a LAN and not exposed to the Internet on its WAN side could cause any trouble, but even then - why some clients work fine and others - not? I would appreciate any help with this issue.

This is the log from the session, showing the connection of the VPN client and then, not two minutes later, the disconnection.

Update: things are getting even weirder. In short - it seems to be working now (on the next day) without anything changing. First thing I did was just try another desperate tweak - I disabled the LCP extensions on the Windows client, which I've done before. It connected and stayed that way. Then, I reverted that setting back to exactly how it was before and connected again - no problems: it stayed connected for an hour (before I disconnected so I can connect to the real VPN), I could access a test-PC on the private network (a single machine just for the test) and do different tasks (resolve host names, browse UNC paths, copy files, Remote Desktop to it, etc.)
I hate it when things happen, for which there is no explanation. I couldn't be confident sending this to the main office to replace the existing router (hardware) and VPN server (implemented in software on a Windows 2003 server). Any thoughts?
    Kamen
P.S. I'm attaching the logs from the successful session in case someone wants to compare them, but they seems quite identical (some different ConfAck / ConfNak  sequences, but that doesn't seem to make much difference).

  • I used Airport Base station and I was able to extend my network using airport express and connect my printers.  Now I am using Extreme and I can't extend the network (Express) or the printers nothing shows up.  I am using utility 6.3 and Mt Lion  What is

I had an Aiport Base Station and extended using Airport Express, where I also connected my printers (network). Now using Airport Extreme off Mt Lion 10.8.4 and Utility 6.3.
I can't extend the network (express) or connect my printers (USB) nor will it find my one wifi printer.
    What's up?

For now, leave the AirPort Express powered off.
Power off the entire network....all devices.....in any order that you want
    Wait a few minutes
Power up the modem first, and let it run 2-3 minutes by itself
Power up the AirPort Extreme next, and let it run a full minute
Keep powering up devices one at a time about a minute apart until everything is powered up (leave the Express off for now)
Open AirPort Utility and check to see if the AirPort Extreme is visible.
If it's not, click the AirPort Utility menu at the upper left of the screen, then click About AirPort Utility. Post back with the version number of AirPort Utility that you see there....which should be AirPort Utility 5.6.1.
    Post back on your progress.

  • Apple Software Update always lists AirPort Utility 5.3.1 for Windows

    Hi all.
My Apple Software Update always lists AirPort Utility 5.3.1 for Windows as an available update. I've checked, and yes - it has been updated successfully. However, the update is still being listed in ASU as being available. Anyone else had this problem?
    Thanks,
    John

Okay. If you like, we could check to see if the Airport Utility is being correctly recorded in your Windows Installer database.
If interested in doing that, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (We're not going to be using it to remove anything just at the moment ... just check on the Installation database more closely.)
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Now launch the utlity (Start > All programs > Windows Install Clean Up).
What version number appears next to the Airport utility for you in there?
For example, I just downloaded and installed the Airport Utility, and in my Installer CleanUp I'm seeing the Airport entry as "(All Users) AirPort \[5.3.1.9]".

  • Steady green light on A1084. Airport Utility 5.6 says set up is complete.   Airport Express base station does not appear in the menu bar, so I cannot select it.  Is there a fix?

Steady green light on A1084. Mac OS X 10.7.5. IMac. Verizon DSL Actiontec GT704-WGB modem. Airport Utility 5.6 says set up is complete.   Airport Express base station does not appear in the menu bar, so I cannot select it and send a signal to airport express to play airtunes through my stereo amplifier.  Is there a fix?

I plugged a model A1034 Airport Extreme Base Station into the Verizon DSL Actiontec GT704-WGB modem with an ethernet cable and now the AirPlay icon appears in the Itunes window immediately to the right of the volume control and I can select it and play Airtunes wirelessly through the A1038 Airport Express Base Station in another room connected to a stereo amplifier by a Monster mini-to-RCA left/right audio cable running from the output jack on the A1034 Airport Express Base Station into the CD jacks on the amp.  The problem is that I have to select the Apple Network Airport Express Base Station as my network in order to select the Airport Express Base Station when I click the AirPlay icon, which means I have no Internet signal to the Imac. If I select the Airport Extreme Base Station or the Verzion modem as my network, then I have an Internet signal to the Imac, but the Airport Express Base Station is grayed out when I click on the AirPlay icon, so I cannot select the Airport Express Base Station and send tunes to the Airport Express.  It would be nice to play Airtunes while simultaneously accessing the Internet.  I don't understand your question about what program I am using for which I require AirPlay.  I am not learned about computers in general, and even less so about Macs than PCs.  I thought the program I was running was Itunes, and there was no separate program to run to use AirPlay for the purpose of sending a signal from the Itunes on the Imac to the A1084 Airport Express base station in a another room, and then out as described above to the stereo amplifier to listen to Itunes music remotely in the other room, without any kind of cable, wire, etc., connecting the Imac to the stereo amplifier.  I would guess that the most common use for the A1084 is to play Itunes through a stereo in another room without the need to run wires from the computer to the stereo.  I realize it would be easy simply to run a very long mini-to-RCA left/right audio cable across the floor connecting the Imac to the amp without the need to use AirTunes, Airplay or any kind of AirPort, but it would be both unsightly and a tripping hazard.

  • Airport Utility on iMac with Jumbo Frames can't read Airport configuration

My 24" iMac is connected to a Netgear switch (GS608 rev2) that supports Ethernet jumbo frames. My GigE Airport Extreme base station is also connected to the Netgear switch and is acting as a gateway for my cable modem connection. Here's the rough wired layout:
    iMac--Netgear--Airport--Cable Modem
The iMac has jumbo frames enabled (MTU=9000) and can communicate fine to the Internet and other devices on my local LAN (including a Netgear NAS box also with Jumbo frames enabled).
Airport Utility on the iMac starts and discovers my 3 Airports (1 extreme + 2 express) but if I double click on one of them to configure it, the window says "Reading the AirPort Extreme configuration..." and hangs there never bringing up the setup screen. Printer jobs to the shared USB printer that worked before Jumbo Frames were enabled on the iMac are also failing. The same happens for the 2 Airport Express as well although I can still steam Airtunes music to them.
Any ideas what might be wrong ? Do the airports have problems negotiating with jumbo frame enabled Macs ?
My wireless MBA with std MTU can still communicate fine with the Airports.
    Thanks,
    E

None of Apple's Airports support jumbo frames.
The networking chip that Apple uses in the Airport Extreme has the capability to support jumbo frames, but it isn't an option that Apple has chosen to expose to the user. So you can't reliably use the Airports on a jumbo frame enabled subnet.
The likely reason the Internet is still working is that, unless your uploading, it's unlikely the iMac sent a packet in excess of 1500 bytes to the Airport. The Airport is always sending 1500 byte packets which your iMac wold receive fine regardless of what the MTU was set (well, unless it was set below 1500).
Some people do report success but I would be wary of their results, they may not have down/upped the interface so the MTU may have been listed as changed, but not yet actually changed to the larger MTU. No-one has actually posted a tcpdump -e capture showing an Airport actually sending/receiving packets in excess of 1500 bytes.

  • HT4262 This version of AirPort Utility doesn't support this base station. Use AirPort Utility 5.6 to configure or manage this base station. AirPort Utility 5.6 is available at AirPort Service and Support.

In my Airport Utility a read the following message:
This version of AirPort Utility doesn't support this base station. Use AirPort Utility 5.6 to configure or manage this base station. AirPort Utility 5.6 is available at AirPort Service and Support." What do I have to do ?? I can use my airport.

I assume that your MacBook Pro is running OS X Mountain Lion ... correct? If so, version 5.6 can run just fine on this version of OS X; it just can't be installed in the traditional way.
Here are the basic steps to install version 5.6 under Mountain Lion using CharlesSoft's Pacifist:
If you haven't already download the AirPort Utility disk image file directly from Apple Support Download
Place the resultant AirPortUtility56.dmg file onto your Mac's Desktop.
    Run Pacifist.
Click on the Open Package option. Find the disk image file that you just placed on your desktop, and then, click on Open.
The utility is located as follows: Contents of AirPortUtility56.dmg > Contents of AirPortUtility56.pkg > Contents of AirPortUtility56Lion.pkg > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility 5.6.app
Drag AirPort Utility 5.6.app to your Mac's /Applications/Utilities folder.
You can now run the AirPort Utility from the Utilities folder.

'm trying to activate my Airport Express to a wireless network powered by an Airport Extreme.  I get an error message that says I need to Use Airport Utility 5.6.  My system is currently running Airport Utility 6.1

Is your AirPort Express an older 802.11g model? If so, you will need to install v5.6 if you are running OS X Lion or 5.6.1 if running OS X Leopard or Snow Leopard. Unfortunately, the iOS version of the AirPort Utility cannot administer these older base stations.

This is the message I have recieved in installing my AirPort Utility... Can anyone help me?

Old AirPort base stations and Time Capsules aren't compatible with AirPort Utility 6.2, so you have to use AirPort Utility 5.6. As you have already updated, you can't install AirPort Utility 5.6 by the normal way.
To install AirPort Utility 5.6 on your MacBook Pro, follow these steps > http://frank.is/mountain-lion-and-the-old-airport-utility/

  • Airport utility is not working on Windows. I can configure Airport Expresses with the Macbook but multiple computers with Windows and the latest Airport Utility time out after trying to connect to the router for setup.

I have been trying to setup Airpot Expresses (both old and new models) for a while now with the Airpot Utility 5.6.1 for Windows without any luck. I have tried this on multiple windows machines, factory reseted the devices if I needed to, but I have not had any success since this software arrived. I see the routers on the Airport Utility UI, I click on it then try to connect to set it up. At this point, it gets stuck with a long progress bar trying to connect to the device without any success. I also have a Macbook Pro, and this device & software has had no trouble setting up the routers. The problem is, we are shipping these small routers out to customers who use Windows machines and it is vital that the user can modify the settings using Airpot Utility. I am at a loss for what to do and if we can't find any solutions, we are going to move on to a different company for the routers we ship out.

Thanks a lot i followed the instructions for safe mode (i found out that i was pressing the C button after restarting) i did whats written there but the repair couldn't be performed so in addition i needed to re-formate the HD so i erased the volume and then repaired the disk--> quite disk utilities --> start the installation from the installation DVD.
    Thanks really appreciating your help

  • Airport Utility wont detect airport.

Windows is connecting to the base station but it wont connect to the internet. When I run Airport Utility it wont find the base station. OSX is connecting to the Base station and the internet with no problems. Help would be much appreciated.

got it fixed. instead of choosing "extend a wireless network" i configured on all the airports with "create a wireless network" with the same network name. also making sure that the channel is set at least three channels apart from the next basestation.
    got it here:

  • Airport Utility cant connect to Airport Extreme Base Station, Error code -4

I am unable to use my Apple-product. Earlier it worked, with these settings: The Airport Extreme Base Station worked as a Gigabit switch and an Access Point. It was not supposed to work as a router, since I have a server "on the far side" of the AEBS.
In any case, it worked for a while. Then it started to act strangely, so I tried to check its settings. I was unable, so I did a factory reset. And haven´t been able to connect (for configuring) since. (It still works as a router and access point, but with the default settings, and with a blinking yellow led.)
When I use the Airport Utility (5.5.1) connected with a cable it finds nothing. Should I be able to configure it wired? When I connect wireless to the default "Apple Network XXXXXX" it finds the Airport Extreme "with default settings". I click "continue" or "Manual setting", and it says "Detecting wireless Apple Devices" (bear in mind that I translate the messages from swedish, It might get wrong), and then after a minute:
An error occurred while trying to access the base station. Make sure your network connection is valid and try again. Error Code: -4
I have shut off the firewall in both Windows and Panda Cloud Office Protection. I have tried to make lots of factory resets.

  • Airport Utility won't work with Windows 8

With Windows 8 I can't get Airport Utility versions 5.5.3 or 5.6.1 to recognize my airport express when wireless.  It can see it if I connect it to the computer with Ethernet.  Another computer with Windows 7 works just fine.  Any idease on how to fix this?
    Thanks

We have seen a number of reports from users on this topic....with many more expected. The bottom line appears to be that Windows 8 is not fully compatible with any current AirPort Utility software.
Hopefully, Apple will provide an udpated version for Windows 8 soon.
