Airport will only work under Boot Camp XP

Up until a few days ago both my Mac Pro and iMac were working perfectly, both have Boot Camp installed and my girlfreind and I switch reguarly between OSX and XP.
Then the other day we both lost all networking on the OSX sides. The airport works fine under XP.
OSX says that it is connected yet does not get an IP address. I have tried swapping the drivers for older versions, removing the system prefs and rebooting, specifying an IP, reseting the router (Linksys) to factory settings, connecting via an ethernet cable, different channels on the router, different security types, no security at all. OSX just is not communicating with the router at all. I'm sure it isn't a hardware fault as the network is fine under XP. The network also has a PS3, PSP and Wii all working fine.
I'm very frustrated and have waste a whole day wrestling with this issue. Any help?

Same as running Windows on any hardware. You need a program to mount an .iso.
The other question might by 'why' but that is besides the point.
Or why this didn't work (lots of options)

  • Dual monitor not working under Boot Camp on Mac Pro ATI HD 2600 XT

Recently got a brand new Mac Pro with ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT graphics card.
On the Mac side (Leopard), everything works perfectly: my second monitor (a plasma screen connected with HDMI to the second DVI of the ATI card via HDMI/DVI adapter) is fully recognized and it works as an extended desktop or in Mirroring mode.
Under Boot Camp (Windows XP Pro) however, NOTHING: the second monitor always appears in the display properties, but it is grayed out (inactive), and when I try to activate it, it switches back to being grayed out immediately and nothing gets displayed on it.
After reading all the posts I can find on the topic, I tried the following (in pretty much every possible combination - Thank god for WinClone that allows me to restore the Boot Camp basic install image without having to reinstall Windows from scratch every time):
    a) Bootcamp 2.0 (installed by default by Bootcamp assistant)
    b) Update to Bootcamp 2.1
    1) Windows XP Pro SP2c vanilla install (from my Windows XP pro install disk)
    2) Update to Windows XP SP3 (I tried with and without BC 2.1: both worked -> BC 2.1 didn't seem to be required for SP3 - maybe because this is a mac pro and not a MB or MBP)
    i) ATI drivers installed by default by Boot Camp assistant (BC 2.0) or by BC 2.1
ii) Latest ATI drivers found on ATI web site specifically under Boot Camp / Mac Pro.
Note: Interestingly, the catalyst installer worked ok (provided .NET framework 2.0 is installed though), but it seems that the Radeon BootCamp/Mac Pro driver set itself from ATI's web site does NOT include a driver for the HD 2600 XT - so when I install this driver set, it tells me that no compatible hardware was found...
iii) Latest ATI drivers found under Windows XP (these did include one driver specifically for the Radeon HD 2600 XT)
NOTHING seems to work. I read posts (most of the from late last year) about ATI Catalyst utility showing a 3rd monitor at some point, but I never got any 3rd monitor showing in any of my many many trials with Catalyst. I have yet to get a single image appear on my plasma under Bootcamp Windows. I don't believe its the hardware because everything works great on the max OS X side.
I am actually considering switching to an NVidia 8800 GT just to get the dual screen to work under BootCamp/Windows XP because I really need it and I read everywhere that drivers for NVidia are far better than ATI ones.
Any advice? What should I try next before getting an 8800 ?
Is there a diagnostic utility that I can use to test my config including the GC?
    Thanks!

Hi there aside from my laptop I have an iMac 20" with the same HD 2600 XT card. I recently installed the Catalyst 8.6 driver by using a driver mod from driverheaven, I use Vista 32. By installing it this way I got boosted performance and many issues with the bootcamp drivers were fixed. As you may already know the ATI drivers do not install on bootcamped macs usually but the mod tool fixes this. Its unofficial so do so at your own risk but try it out and see if you get the second monitor if not just rollback. Hope this helps and I didn't want to say too much about the 8.6 driver mod because it may not be allowed here but google will provide any answers.

  • IMac with 3TB Fusion drive will not partition under Boot Camp

    I have a 27" iMac with a 3TB Fusion drive and I am using 10.8.4.
I am trying to install Windows 8 Pro with Boot Camp.  Everything starts well enough, but once I get to "Create a Partition for Windows" and setting a 505 GB Windows partition, it begins the process, but then seems to stop progressing with the status indicator pretty much stopped at a point directly under the "d" in the "Status: Partitioning disk.."
I've let it run for the past 1.5 hours and it hasn't budged.
This is not my first attempt at doing this on this machine.  I tried manually partitioning with Disk Utility which pretty much ended up in a disaster that I was able to repair with some difficulty.  That was covered in this thread.
I realize that 3TB drives were not supported under 10.8.3, but I thought that was fixed.  Am I wrong?

This is a bit of a guess and you might have do a bit of further reading to understand what I am trying to say but basically:
When you buy a Mac - its Hard Disks come partitioned using the GPT partitioning scheme that is used for the UEFI boot process (All new Windows 8 badged computers have UEFI now as well - Macs have been using it for years). This is opposed to the old MBR partitioning scheme that was used with the BIOS boot process.
There are quite a few limitations of the MBR partitioning scheme including:
    1. A limit of 4 partitions per volume
    2. A limit of 2 TB per partition
    3. Poor support for AHCI
When you run Boot Camp - it turns your partitioning into a hybrid of the two, so you get stuck with all the limitations of MBR - with the second bullet point above I suspect of giving you issues.
You have a couple of possible solutions:
    1. Test with having all partitions less than 2 TB
    or
    2. (Technical) Try and install Windows 8 in EFI mode - its a bit tricky at the moment and a little bit of work - but I have it working on my MacBook Pro (although I do have nVidia graphics driver issues that you may or may not encounter as well). See my wiki at multiboot.info for links if you want to attempt this

  • LED cinema display doesn't work under boot camp

I just installed Boot Camp and Windows 7 x64 on a Macbook Pro 2010 (6,2) with and NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 256MB video card. The Boot Camp drivers automatically installed during the process. I plugged in my 27 inch LED Cinema Display, which works just fine on the OS X side. However, the screen was dark, as if it wasn't plugged in.
Audio does go through the Cinema Display.
I have tried to repair the drivers twice by running the Boot Camp support software.  I also tried to run the NVIDIA driver installation software separately. It failed.
So, what can I do to get the Cinema Display working?
    Thanks.

I found a solution that worked for me. I deleted from my USB drive the Boot Camp support software that I had downloaded from the Apple website and downloaded in its place the support software through the Boot Camp Assistant program. I ran setup.exe, did the repair option and restarted. I then went to the NVIDIA driver install application on the USB drive and ran it. This time, it worked! I restarted the computer and both the laptop display and the Cinema Display lit up.
Originally, and during the previous 3 times trying to repair the drivers, I saw the ATI graphics driver getting installed. Somehow, it appears that the NVIDIA drivers didn't install before.
    I hope this helps others.

  • Wireless Not Working under Boot Camp

Wireless works with Leopard and with VM Fusion, but when I use boot camp, it won't connect to DHCP. Tried manual ip address also, but no internet connectivity and can't ping my network.
Wired ethernet works fine with Boot Camp.

  • No headphones under Boot Camp

When running Vista x32 under Boot Camp on my 13" MBP, I can't get sound through the headphones - only through the internal speakers. Based on previous recommendations that have been posted, I uninstalled and reinstalled the Boot Camp drivers - but the problem persists. I've tested several different headphones and none work under Boot Camp.
However, when running OS X or running Vista under Fusion, the headphones work as expected.
Any recommendations what I should try next?
    thanks!

Had the exact same issue. I would plug-in my headphones and the sound would continue to come out of the internal speakers instead of the headphones.
    HOW TO FIX
    -Plug in your headphones
-Right click on the little speaker in the system tray and click on "Playback Devices"
-Right click on Speakers (Cirrus Logic) and disable
-The sound should now only be coming out of the headphones

  • Crysis Warhead 64-bit Won't Work with Windows 7 64-bit Under Boot Camp

Hi. I installed the patch 1.1 for Crysis Warhead which has the 64-bit version of the game which I'm running under Windows 7 64-bit on Boot Camp and I've tried the the compatibility mode (Vista to Vista SP2). I've also updated the ATI drivers as well as the Boot Camp drivers. I'm using the latest Snow Leopard.
When I click on the game's application (64-bit version), it would launch then it goes black with just the mouse cursor (you can move it about) which seems to be in low resolution and I guess it would crash so I would push the button on this late iMac 2009 and Windows would go back to the desktop then shutdown.
Has anyone made Crysis Warhead 64-bit work with Boot Camp Win7 64-bit with this iMac (it has the ATI 4850)? Is this because it's Boot Camp or that it's Windows 64-bit or is it the ATI graphics chip? Thank you in advance. Gbu.

since bootcamp allows windows to run natively, it's not an imac issue, but rather an issue with your windows, so you probably get better answers in a windows forum or the crysis forums.
in any case, installing newer ATI drivers (ati.com) might help, but it's just a wild guess

  • Will Windows 8.1 upgrade work with Boot Camp on OS X Mavericks?

Will Windows 8.1 upgrade work with Boot Camp on OS X Mavericks?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Of course. Make a backup of your files in Windows, and install Windows 8.1 as an upgrade. The Windows support software supports it without any issue, so if it is updated, you do not have to worry

  • What will happen if I try to install XP SP1 under Boot Camp?

Hi all. I'm new to the discussion and to the Mac world.
Before I go buy XP sp2 or sp3; does anyone know what will happen (nothing will work or limited functionality) if I try to install XP SP1?
Don't want to try it if I'm going to "break" something...
    thanks in advance.

    Macbook_Juice:
Please do not bother to install Windows XP with Service Pack 1. It will not work and the installation will more than likely not finish. Save yourself the headache and get the right copy of Windows which work with Boot Camp.

  • Does Apple USB modem (or any USB modem) work with Telix under Boot Camp?

I know, it's one heck of an obscure and specific question. But it just so happens to be critical to whether I try and use an Intel Mac (new, with Leopard, under Boot Camp) as a PC (where a PC would be a lot easier as far as having a built-in 56k modem goes). By Telix I mean the most "recent" version of Telix for Windows. Thanks in advance for the assistance.

It says it works with the Mac mini, but does it really? I just received my modem yesterday and could not get it to work with my 1.42 mini - the more expensive one that comes without a dialup modem! I looked carefully at the specs and it appears the Apple USB modem requires Mac OS 10.4.3, not the 10.4.2 that comes with the Mac mini.
Talk about stupid! And the mini docs say it comes with the "latest" version of Tiger. Not! So I can download the upgrade, I guess. IF I could get on the internet! This is extremely annoying. I guess I'll have to download the upgrade on another computer and transfer it somehow. Boy, those Apple guys sure are tech geniuses, aren't they???

  • Fat32 External Hard Drive does NOT mount on Windows XP Pro under boot camp

I have a gateway 160gb portable external HDD. When it came pre-formatted in NTFS. It mounted on Windows XP under boot camp or Vmware Virtual machine very well.
I then formatted it under HFS+ to use it with superduper.
Now that I want to convert it back to NTFS. I formatted it under Fat32 so that windows can recognize it and I can format it again under NTFS.
The drive mounts fine on Mac OSX leopard but not on Windows XP (bootcamp or Vmware VM). Could someone help? I need this drive to be under NTFS so that I can store work related files which can only be run on Windows and some of the files are larger than 4gb.
    Thank you

Under Disk Utility>Partition select anything other than 'Current' under 'Volume Scheme', then the format field will light. However, you should have been able to format under Windows Disk Management once it was online. See:

  • 802.11ac not recognized on Windows 8.1 Pro under Boot Camp.

I just installed Windows 8.1 Pro under Boot Camp. The issue I am having is that the 802.11ac network is not recognized in Windows. Windows only recohnizes the 802.11n network. When I boot up OSX Yosemite, It works as usual. Anyone else have this problem?

8/8.1 will install fine but there's some stuff you need to do before starting to ensure no issues
    purchase a retail 8/8.1 license
use only a USB2 flash drive
    get a clean 8 or 8.1 ISO
newer machines are more selective with the ISO for some reason (ISOs that worked to install Windows on many different older Macs would not work)
if you've made lots of changes, hacks and adjustments trying to get this work on your own, you should clean install OSX first, do not restore from time machine and start at step 3 to get Windows installed, you can go back later and copy files back to OSX
if you want to try without clean installing OSX, here goes
open boot camp assistant (bca) and choose option 3 ONLY if it reads 'remove/delete' Windows
open disk utility (du) and confirm that your HD now only has 1 single partition ('macintosh HD' unless you've renamed it)
restart machine and do a PRAM reset
open du and repair permissions TWICE
open bca and choose all 3 options (create, download, install)
from here, the process follows the standard boot camp instructions (http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1636/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_ 10.8.pdf) but pay attention to step 3 where you do have to manually reformat the boot camp partition
    clean ISOs

  • Latest Windows 8.1 update under Boot Camp loses my cursor

I was having no problems running Windows 8.1 under Boot Camp on my MacBook Pro Retina (2012) with the latest Boot Camp drivers until I tried downloading Microsoft's latest major update to Windows 8.1 (KB2919355). After installing the update, I lost my cursor. The trackpad and a USB mouse both "worked" by highlighting icons and windows at random, but without a cursor I'm flying blind. It seems to be a video or screen driver issue. I chatted with Apple and spoke to Microsoft on the phone. They both suggested that I uninstall the update, which I have done. And that does bring back my cursor. The only hope is that Apple and Microsoft can work out this problem between the Apple drivers and the Microsoft update. I understand that this latest Microsoft update is a prerequisite for future Microsoft updates, so I hope they straighten this out. Is anyone else suffering from this problem?

    Hi
I have exactly the same problem on my MacBook Pro Retina (early 2013). After updating from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 (KB2919355) the mouse cursor is invisible on the desktop. On the Lockscreen and Sign In screen the cursor is visible. My resolution is 1920x1200. I connected also another "normal" mouse device and I have the same effect.
When starting Windows in Safe mode the cursor is visible. When uninstalling the update KB2919355 everything works again.

I use the latest version of BootCamp http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1720.
Thank you to solve this issue.

  • If I erase and install will it remove my Boot Camp XP partition to?

Hi I got a new iMac at Xmas, 1st one ever, Im loving it!
Ive been messing about installing stuff, settings etc, I have set up my Boot Camp partition with X on and its working great. I havent run Time Machine yet as I knew I was going to be "testing" OS X out.
So what I really think I should do is wipe it all clean, get the OS X updates (v10.5.2 etc) and then do a backup and start afresh. But what will happen to my Boot Camp partition? will this get erased as well?
If so there is a free app called WinCLone that I could back it up with 1st I suppose, but am unsure if this works well?
So can someone help please? the only thing I need to backup ff OS X 1st is my iTunes music, as I finally have beenorganising it all with art, tags etc. this will just go onto a USB external HDD i have
    cheers

I saw you said 32GB for your Boot Camp partition, I presume you formatted in FAT32. If this is the case, Winclone _will not_ work. It only works with NTFS partitions. I have used it before to resize my boot camp partition.
On a side note for anyone whom is trying to resize or change their file system on their BootCamp partition, your FAT32 partition can be converted to NTFS directly from Windows. This will allow the usage of Winclone (http://www.twocanoes.com/winclone/).
+1. Click Start, point to *All Programs*, point to Accessories, and then click *Command Prompt*.+
+2. At the command prompt, type the following, where drive letter is the drive that you want to convert:+
    +*convert drive letter: /fs:ntfs*+
+For example, type the following command to convert drive E to NTFS:+
    +*convert e: /fs:ntfs*+
+Note If the operating system is on the drive that you are converting, you will be prompted to schedule the task when you restart the computer because the conversion cannot be completed while the operating system is running. When you are prompted, click YES+
You can now use Winclone to make an image of the existing partition. Then use BootCamp to delete the existing partition and create a new larger partition.
