just purchased my first imac desktop also purchased the airport wireless everything works fine on the desktop what do i need to do to get my laptop to work on wireless ive tried to connect and use the password i've put in on the setttings still won't let me connect

Some users have an issue with the type of security method. Perhaps your laptop has some way of allowing you to also choose the security method prior to inputting the password. If you used WPA2 in setting up your iMac and AirPort base station, it may be that your laptop is not upgraded to include WPA2. WPA2 is currently the best to use, although not every computer or wireless router can handle it.
Another alternative is that you may have chosen to have a closed or restricted network. Undo (uncheck) that temporarily until you've established your laptop connection to the network. After that you might be able to successfully re-close your network.

There is a lot of talk aout there about using a 27" iMac as a display with the mini displayport to displayport cable. It is so exciting! I am trying to connect a PC laptop with a VGA port to a 27" Dell Latitude D620?

In 2010 there was a question about using a 27" iMac as a display with a Dell laptop.
I am trying to connect a work Dell laptop Running Windows XP via a VGA cable to my personal iMac 27"
running iMac 27", Mac OS X (10.6)
Has anyone tried this or know if imac 27" Mini port with a VGA adapter can work?

I have no proof, but I think it will not work with an adapter, only Mini Display Port or Thunderbolt.

Outlook 2010 sticks on "Trying to Connect" when undock Laptops and VPN Connects Automatically

When our users undock their laptops the VPN kicks in automatically. All of the other network services just continue seamlessly. Outlook, however, sticks at "trying to connect". This is often accompanied by a password prompt.
This is easily solved by closing Outlook and reopening it (no need to enter password).
It doesn't seem unreasonable that outlook should require a restart after being disconnected like this. Just want to establish whether there is a way to have Outlook just re-connect without the need to close it and reopen it. Or is the need to
restart it unavoidable?

This is really a question for the Outlook forum, but from what I have seen over the years, thats just the way it is with OUtlook and MAPI or Outlook Anywhere. When you change the network, Outlook struggles..
Having said that, MAPI over HTTP with Exchange 2013 SP1 is working to eliminate those issues:

Airtunes cutting out wirelessly-trying ethernet connection-help

Ihave an Imac with a local wireless network to a lynksysN router-connected to a PC.( I use files betweent the PC and the Mac) I have two airport express-one for each stereo in the home and an apple TV. I get a lot of cut outs on airtunes....so since I have the abilty to wire the house I have put an ethernet cable from the Imac to the Lynksys router. Now my internet is faster on the Mac. Now how can I play my music on the Mac via the airport express devices. When I disable the airport to the router I no longer can see mutlitple speakers, or my apple TV in my itunes. All I really want is to have my airtunes work without cutting out. I know I have all the required hardware and I just don;t quite understand how to make it all work yet. Thanks

I am also streaming music using iTunes to an airport express from an airport extreme. I also have the music cutting in and out problem and may have just solved it tonight by changing the channel setting from the default automatic to a channel that doesn't seem to have interference. For me, that seems to be channel 1. Automatic was always picking channel 11 and that cut in and out.
BTW, my airport express is only 70' away, but downstairs and my floors are concrete. Anybody else have such short range?

Airport Wireless Card not connecting to ABS

I updated my ABS firmware a few weeks back when many people did and had issues with the update, no wireless connection. I rolled back to the previous ABS firmware version with no luck. I went thru several hard resets and go nothing. So I just went ahead and updated to the current ABS firmware version. I have no problem using the internet over the lan and other computers can connect wirelessly, but the wireless on the G4 Ti won't connect. It shows and error window. I thought the wireless card went dead, but it works just fine on other wireless networks. Any thoughts would be great.

ok i'm back again. so now i'm on to the internet but my connection is really weak, 1 bar. i talked to the guy who installed the wireless router and he said that its because the aerial is in the base and has to receive the signal through my desk. but he also said that he didn't know much about Mac's. so i'm not to sure he knows what he's talking about. is there any other reason why i'm getting a weak connection. i tried moving my mac around but that did not help.

Trying to connect an XP laptop to a Time Capsule

and having no luck.
This is an HP Pavillion dv8000 running Windows XP Home Edition, Service Pack 3
with an Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG WiFi thingy.
I have tried every driver update I could find. FOund a set of drivers and software at Intel that detected the band, mode, and everything from my Time Capsule, but the dang thing will not connect.
The router log from the TTime Capsule has an endless loop of these lines:

OK. This is extremely bizarre, but I finally got what I needed.
I am working with two WynDoze machines:
HP Pavillion dv8000 running Windows XP Home Edition, Service Pack 3
and
HP Mini 210-1091 NR NetBook running Windows 7 (Starter, I think)
I had to configure the XP box for WPA2-PSA/AES to get a connection
and
the Windows 7 box had to be set to WPA-Personal/TKIP to connect to the exact same network !

Airport wireless not holding connection

I have a comcast highspeed cable with a linksys modem and wireless router in my home. I am able to get a very strong connection however lose it several minutes later. I have to go
disconnect the power to the modem and router wait 30 seconds and reconnect. Then everything works great again for a short period then loses connection again.
I have contacted linksys and adjusted some settings and even swapped out for a new one with a later firmware version with no improvement. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You may be experiencing RF interference due to another device operating at 2.4 GHz. Try changing the channel used by the base station until you find a channel that works better or you run out of channels. See KB 58543, AirPort: Potential sources of interference.

i have a macbook pro 15 inch. built in isight of course and my friend has a dell desktop.
we are trying to video chat and when i send him an invitation it comes "there was a communication error during ur chat" and it wants me to send to apple .
when he sends me an invitation i clicked acccept and it starts to connect but then it says <my name> didnt not respond.
are there any plugins for the PC that it needs. i went to teh apple store and some guys told me that the PC might need a netmeeting plugin.

To find where the issues lies, I would suggest focusing on one end at a time. With the Mac, try connecting to a user with no known issues http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/ContactTesters.html (Bottom of the page)
Once you have the Mac up and running with no issues, I'd focus on the Windows Machine. Are the proper router ports forwarded on the windows Machine? If your behind a router, you don't need the windows firewall, turn it off, along with any other firewall that may be installed.

Ipad mini was locked and the wrong passcode was entered enough to disable it. Tried to connect to a laptop but it says it is locked and the passcode needs to be entered, but I can't because the device says it is disabled.

I tried next to put device into recovery mode and reset it that way but it still said the same thing, itunes says I need to enter passcode to unlock it but the iPad says it is disabled. What can I do next?

FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
1. Turn off iPad
2. Turn on computer and launch iTune (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port. Do not release button until you see picture of iTune and plug (very important)
5. Release Home button.
ON COMPUTER
6. iTune has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTune.
7. Select "Restore iPad"...

Trying to connect second laptop wirelessly but can only use numbers in password field

I've connected my Mac and another PC to my Valet Plus with no trouble. The third PC, running Windows XP, can only be connected as a guest. When trying to connect to this laptop to the home network, the password will only accept numbers.
I've tried changing the PC's security settings, disabling the firewall, etc. Has anyone experienced this problem?

What is the service pack on your computer?
If it is windows XP service pack 1 then I think you will need to upgrade the OS to SP3. Because SP1 will not support WPA/WPA2 security mode.
When you install the router using Cisco connect, the wireless security on the router will be WPA/WPA2.

How to Connect my PC to Mac Mini Airport wirelessly?

This may be more of a PC question, but I'm trying to connect my PC laptop to my mac mini.
I turned on internet sharing on the Mini.
I can see my Airport wireless network on the PC, it says I'm connected.
I do not have a password enabled on the airport network.
The PC browser says it cannot find the server and will not load a webpage even though the wireless network connection window says I'm connected to my wireless network.

I would unplug the AirPort Express at this point and see if you can get the Internet sharing with the PC configured.
My Mac mini is connected to the internet by Ethernet cable to my ISP's gateway. I am sharing the Ethernet connection to two iPod Touches via AirPort from my Mac mini. These are the steps for internet sharing from Ethernet to AirPort. See if you have followed them correctly in configuring your kit.
1. In Sys Prefs/Sharing I highlighted Internet Sharing (do not check the box)
2. Share your connection from: Ethernet (from the dropdown menu)
3. To computers using: AirPort (check the little box)
4. Press the button AirPort Options...
5. Name your Network
6. I use Automatic for the channel
7. I encrypt my network using a 40-bit WEP key
8. For a non-Apple device you must use only a 5 alphanumeric character, 40-bit WEP password or only a 13 alphanumeric character 128-bit WEP password
9. Press OK
10. Check the box for Internet Sharing
11. Answer any dialog boxes that pop up
If everything on the Mac end is correct then the issue may lie with the PC since Windows is much more picky about how it is configured. Here is an article that may assist you in getting the PC correct;

Other things that you could try is to name your network with a short name without spaces, such as your Apple Discussions User Name. Also create WEP passwords of only 5 or 13 alphanumerics. Some also suggest an All Caps password.

Using airport express station to connect to FIOS wireless

My G 5 tower does not have an airport card so I'm trying to configure an airport express station that I have to be used as a card. However, it tells me that it needs to find an airport wireless node to connect to. Is there any workaround to connect to a FIOS router?

UNable to connect 2nd HP laptop to Officejet Pro 8610

I have 2 HP laptops each with Win7 (64 bit) SP1 and I am trying to connect the 2nd laptop to an OfficeJet Pro8610 to print wirelessly. I have tried using the CD rom and downloading the drivers online but I cannot connect this laptop to the printer. I reach a point where the conncection process requires the printers claim id code but when I enter the code I have a message that this code is already in use (the other laptop is connected wirelessly) and in order to connect I must delete the other laptop. I'm at a loss here because I had connected both of the same laptops to my old OfficeJet 6700 and could print wirelessly from each without any setup issues at all. What am I missing here with the 8610?? Thanks Alkymst

The code you are entering is likely for setting up the ePrint email address for the printer. Once this has been done it is not necessary to do it again. An alternative is that the laptop is connected directly to the printer wirelessly with wireless direct. In this case you would need to disconnect the laptop from the printer to use the other laptop. A better setup would be to connect the printer to your router wither wirelessly or by a hardwired LAN cable. This would give the printer an IP address that you can find by touching the printer front panel (if the printer is in sleep mode), then touch the wireless icon at the bottom of the screen. This will bring up the wireless LAN status where you can find the IP address of the printer. You should be able to set the printer up with the driver install wizard available from http://www.hp.com/go/tools.

Hi all, I know there are a few issues about connetcign to the hotspots - But I am able to conenct via the wireless on my iphone via a hotspot, but on my laptop I get the yellow circle with explantaion mark when trying to connect via my laptop (I am away from home for a few weeks) any suggestions, its says I'm connected to the hotspot but not the internet.

The Cisco IPSEC VPN client is able to connect to VPN gateways without any issues over the Verizon 4g network. However once connected, the client is not able to pass any traffic at all. The counters on the client indicate that the client is encrypting data however, there are no increments to the decrypt counters. This issue is seen on the entire gamut of windows OSs. One of the deal breakers with the new Verizon 4g network is that the new LG VL600 and Pantech UML290 run a privately routed IP (10.) address that ONLY allows outbound traffic - no inbound traffic can be passed through. This means that if you have a need for remote access to a device, Verizon's new 3G/4G-capable devices will not allow you to access them like you could with a 3G-only modem.
Resolution
Based on suggestions made by Verizons it seems as though the following things need to be attempted:
1. enable Nat-T. For more information regarding nat-traversal please refer to the following documents:
     a. IPSEC over NAT-T on IOS devices
     b. IPSEC over NAT-T on ASA
2. enable IPSEC-over-TCP. For more information regarding enabling IPSEC over TCP please refer to the following documents:

3. Use Anyconnect rather than IPSEC
4. The other option is to go with the Sprint 4g network instead which apparently does support remote access to applications.
