Airport won't power on

my airport extreme base station wont power on no light or internet connection try multi plugs in my home.

Probably dead from the ludicrous amount of heat generated by a combo of bad engineering practices, and China quality manufacture.
However, let's double check the power connection on both the extreme, and the power outlet.  Then make sure that power outlet not only is a snug, but that there is actually POWER there, and not some kind of blown fuse.

  • Airport won't power up after updates 5.5.2 and 7.5.2

I updated this afternoon via Software Update: Airport Utility (to v. 5.5.2) and Airport Extreme firmware (to v. 7.5.2). Everything seemed fine, noticed no problems and later I shut down my main computer for the day.
When my wife came home later, she couldn't get an Airport connection on her MacBook Pro. In the process of troubleshooting, I went back to the Base Station and found it was off (no light at all). It simply won't power up at all. Unplugged it, replugged it, etc.
Seems like too much of a coincidence that my unit would have just flat-out died after these updates.
    Anybody know what's up?

Thanks Bob, I'm afraid you're right. I didn't know that a firmware update could fry hardware like this! It's just too much of a coincidence to be a... well, coincidence. (Especially now that I see all the other people having problems today after this update.)
I've also reported the issue to Apple via the link you posted in another thread: http://www.apple.com/feedback/airportextreme.html

  • Airport Won't Power Up

I recently found my Airport Extreme won't power up. I've had it for two years with no issues and one morning it was just off. I've checked the cord connection several times and used every outlet in the house. The small LED lights next to the LAN outputs in the back of the unit briefly light up when I connect the cord; however, the unit will not power up. The display light will not light up on the front. The unit is plugged into a surge protector...any thoughts?

    Welcome to the discussions!
Unfortunately, the symptoms you describe point to a likely failure of an internal component in the AirPort Extreme.
It might be worth a try at a Factory Default Reset on the AirPort Extreme. If you want to try, proceed as follows:
Power down the AirPort Extreme for a few moments
Hold in the reset button and while you continue to hold the reset button in, plug the power back into the AirPort Extreme
Release the reset button after 10 seconds.
If no luck, you will need to have Apple take a look and decide on a course of action from there.

  • My airport won't power up!

Of course this has to happen on New Year's Day...but it's not the Y2K era anymore so what's up? I we went to get on the internet a few days ago and found that my airports light wasn't even on. I performed a hard reset and even bought a new power cord to see if there was a short...nothing has worked. Any ideas? I can't even get a flicker of power....and I know the outlet works :) anyone else have this problem? The device is only a few years old and updated to the best of my knowledge.
    Thanks for your help!
    Chrysa

The standard problem is dead power supply on Gen 1 and Gen 2
On gen 3 it is shorted capacitors on the board.. look at the bottom and see if the model is A1355.. that is common fault on that model.
There is a fix but it is tricky.. ask if you want to know and have some electronic and soldering ability.
On the Gen4 A1409 there is a new fault.. and I am not sure what it is.. it has not yet happened to a TC on my desk.. the one I got that was dead came to life again after i reassembled it finding nothing wrong.
You will notice the hard disk still churns so there is some power still.

  • Airport won't light up - nothing.  it's only  16 months old. is it unusual for it to be dead?

Airport won't light up - nothing.  I've only had it 16 months.  Is it possible that it died that quick?  Any suggestions?  Thank you very much.

Yes, it would be unusual for AirPort Express to fail after only 16 months of use. However, anything is possible, including anything from an external source like a lightning strike or power-surge to a circuit failure of the base station itself.
If you haven't already, I would try a "factory default" reset on it. You may want to do this a couple of time to make sure it "sticks." If after doing these the status light is still off and the unit does not appear to be warm to the touch when plugged in, it most likely has failed.

  • HT3546 my airport will not power on, what are the possible causes?

My Airport just shut off and it will not power on. I unplug it from the wall and pulg it back into the power outlet but it still won't power on. What are the possible causes. Is this system just died out, I have it for about 3 years.

Causes....a failed electical power supply component or an internal connection that has come loose.
It's a real longshot, but if you are handy with small tools, carefully saw open the case of the Express along the center seam to open up the case and look for something obvious.
Your chances of success here are very very small, but if you have the time and inclination, it won't hurt to try.

  • IBook G3 700Mhz won't power on at all

    Hello,
My iBook G3 700Mhz (CD-ROM, 2002 model) recently died completely - it won't power on, there is no chime, no disk activity whatsoever. There were no indications that there was a fault prior to this - I had used it with no problems just a few hours beforehand. I have heard of logic board failures, but from what I have read some form of activity still occurs, or there are faults that occur sporadically shortly before it completely fails. My iBook has run perfectly since I bought it in 2003 with no sign of any problems at all.
Is this likely to be a logic board fault? Or could it be a fault with the PSU? The battery still holds a charge (it is on 2 lights), the power cable still turns orange when plugged in, so power is still getting to the machine.
I appreciate any help anyone can give - I would like to be able to get to the data on my hard drive, as although I have made regular backups, the last piece of work I was doing (the day my book died) will still be there, and hasn't been backed-up.
    Thanks,
    Andrew
    (iBook spec: G3 700Mhz "P72B", CD-ROM drive, 640Mb RAM, Airport, OSX 10.4.10)

Thank you very much for your help, very much appreciated. Unfortunately, I have no friends with iBooks (just MacBook Pros - very flash), but I have ordered an ibook G4 which, should it eventually arrive (I managed to be sent a job lot of laptop hard disks by accident today, which was akin to rubbing salt in my wounds) I will use to test the power cord.
I think the power problem sounds the most likely candidate, thanks to the article link you sent me. One thing I noticed last night when trying out your tips was that when the power lead was connected, the battery life indicator stayed on the whole time. I'm not sure I remember it doing that before, so that could be an indication of the problem. Also, the ring on the power cord stayed orange throughout, despite the battery showing full power. There are no Apple Stores where I live, but I am hopefully visiting a city with one this Weekend, so I may well take my iBook with me for diagnosis. I'm not sure I can justify the price of a logic board repair, but a PSU replacement might be more palatable.
Again, thanks very much S.U. and Ronda. I will keep you posted on any further developments.

Installed the update tonight and now my phone (Lumia 928) won't power up.  I've tried a soft reset, but the screen goes from the Nokia logo to a red Verizon screen to a black screen.  Tried it 10 times with the same result.  What's wrong and how do I fix it?  Help!

        Oh no Mr.Ected!
I can see if we can get your phone back on! I understand how important it is to have a phone. Have you tried this to see if we can get it back on? http://vz.to/1DZhteH . If it is still goes to a red Verizon screen and then to black we might need to do a master reset. While the phone is off try this:http://vz.to/1DZhXkU Be mindful this is the last resort because it will erase everything on the phone. If you have done back up assistant in the past you will be able to get you contacts back. Please let me know if you need any more help.

  • Please Help! My iPhone 4 won't power on!

iPhone 4, out of warranty coverage, won't power on.
        1.    It has about 60% battery before it dead, but suddenly it became black screen and not responsive (like powered off).
        2.    Whatever I did, like "holding the power button and home button together for 10-25 sec and then pressing the power button again" etc. it just won't power on, no Apple logo!
        3.    But I can seen the "emergancy call" screen when I plugged it with my laptop and it just told me "No Service" at the upper left corner (status bar of iPhone 4).
        4.    iTunes can see it, but only when it was in Recovery mode or DFU mode.
        5.    I also tried to restore it to factory settings in iTunes, but it always gives me an error with various error codes, like 2001, 2006, etc. I also tried restore it under Windows or Mac, but was out of luck too!
        6.    Finally I bought a iPhone 4 battery replacement and replaced the old one with the new one, but nothing changed as if it wasn't replaced its original battery.
        7.    It keeps rebooting at every 10 min or so when It was plugged into my laptop without any operations (pressing any buttons).
        8.    It can be "powered on" only when it was plugged into a computer. It will IMMEDIATELY be in "dead mode" as long as I disconnect it from the computer (like taking out a battery from an iPhone that is powered on)!
        9.    Everything worked fine before it dead, I don't know what happened to it! I am so frustrated!
Please help! Thank you so much!

    USB Problem, possibly bad Cable.
I misread your original post "It keeps rebooting at every 10 min or so when It was plugged into my laptop".
I thought you had a boot loop problem, but you say "rebooting when plugged into laptop" this is not the typical boot loop problem, because you had the iPhone connected to laptop.
Connected by what, obvioulsy a USB Cable, Error 2006, is most often due to faulty USB Cable.
Clean that Dock Port Very Well especially with Isopropyll Alcohol, get a good USB Cable, try a different USB port on computer, or try a different computer.

Sorry about the long title.....its my first post.
My kid just got a brand new iPod 5th generation (today from Santa) and it won't power up or charge. The only response is when I connect the USB and press the power button or front button the Battery appears with red line on left and lightning symbol below. There is no other response at all no matter what I do, including holding both buttons down for extended period.  My other kid got one and it works perfectly.....I have interchanged usb cables ports etc. but still no response....I would really appreciate any help.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    -  Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since you have a hardware problem with the iPod. This is because as you said the same cable works with another iPod.

  • Zen Vision:M 30GB won't power down; any ide

I've had a 30GB Zen Vision M for a couple of months now! Awesome player, went through the usual round of recognition problems, but it's been working fine of late. My problem is, it won't power down now. When I try to power down, the unit says it's powering down, the dispaly goes black except for the battery icon. And it stops there. The blue backlight on the menu buttons stays on, the battery icon stays on, and eventually it turns off after 5 minutes because of being idle. Not a terrible problem I know, but a real niusance. I am running the most current firmware (have been for a while). I've tried resetting and clean-up. No change. I'm afraid of trying to reinstall the firmware, in case I have the same problem that many others are having, and go from a good player with a power issue, to a player that does nothing. I can't see it being the power switch itself, since it powers up fine, and tries to power down. Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated. birder

  • Can I recover data if my phone won't power up?

So my iphone 6 accidentally went through the wash on Monday night. I immeadately tried to dry it out in a pyrex dish of rice with a heating pad covering the dish. It was in rice for 36 hours and still won't power back up. I knew it was a long shot, but it previously worked for a iphone 3s and 4g. Any suggestions on possibly recovering this hardware or how to recover the data (no icloud storage) w/o the abilty to power the device on?

Not really - that data is gone unless the phone somehow wakes up
The conventional wisdom for the rice is 5-7 days though

  • IBook G3 800mhz powers & starts up, after a shutdown it won't power up

One day my iBook G3 800mhz was working fine. I shut it down and later went to turn it on and it wouldn't do anything... no startup chime, no fans, no lights, nothing. I tried resetting PRAM, PMU, and many other things which didn't work at all.
I had a local computer store check it out and they told me the Motherboard was fried. I pretty much wrote the iBook off as DEAD. I took the battery out and it sat that way for about a month.
Today, I put the battery back in and hit the power button, and IT POWERED UP & BOOTED! I couldn't believe it. I shut it down and hit the power button again... nothing, it was "dead" again. I took the battery out and let it sit that way for about 2 hours, put the battery back in, pushed the power button and it BOOTED JUST FINE. So, I shut it down, pushed the power button and it was "dead." I took the battery out again, let it sit for an hour. This time instead of installing the battery I just connected the power adapter, pressed the power button and it BOOTED. To determine if it was the battery, I left the power adapter plugged in, shut down the iBook and pressed the power button... NOTHING, "dead" again. So, it's not the battery, it's not the power cord.
When I do get it booted, I am able to do a succesful Restart by selecting it in the Finder. Also, whenever it does power up, I am able to reset the PRAM and it will start up. Whenever I do a Shutdown (either from the Finder or by pressing the power button) it won't power up unless I disconnect the battery and power adapter and let it sit for about an hour.
I've been through all the forums and many websites and have yet to find a fix for this problem.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    Hey Shim..,
Certified Apple Technician and he agreed that it is probably the transistor (what he called it) that is failing, since it's not holding Date & Time
OK but a transistor is a long way from a microprocessor. Uhh where did he get his...oh never mind.
I have read in some forums about the leaking super cap,
I'd be interested in those leads
but I haven't been able to find any photos or anything that shows where on the board this is located.
    Just put one up here, it's from a 12" G4 1.2 GHz:
    http://www.photolava.com/view/d5pr.html
They're pretty distinctive, so hard to miss.
Here's the blowed up one from the 500MHz 12" G3
    http://www.photolava.com/view/d5pu.html
    Now that's blowed up
Is this cap replaceable? Anyone know of any step-by-step guide that would show how to go about this, or know of any company that might do this sort of thing? If it's not too terribly expensive, I'd be willing to give it a try.
Well let's determine if it's bad first. Usually when these things fail it's pretty obvious.
I'd try blowing out all the chips we talked about first since I believe a tiny bit of smutz will cause a CMOS micro to crash.
It reminds me of when these early PMUs will crash and drag the battery down with it in a matter of days vs years.
One of the resets in those was to remove all power and let it sit just like you're doing here. This was called resetting the logic board and was SOP for a no startup situation.

  • I dropped my iphone 4s and now it won't power up, I dropped my iphone 4s and now it won't power up

I just dropped my phone onto asphalt from the car, about a 2.5 foot drop. The phone was wearing a case and no damage was done to the phone. the phone was off when I picked it up and will not power up. Any suggestions for how to fix this myself?

Apparently some damage to the iPhone did occur. Using a case doesn't guarantee zero damage when dropped depending on the case.
If the iPhone won't power on the normal way and the same with a reset, make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby.

Could you specify the model of MacBook and the OS X it's running, please? Some of the advice or references vary along with the system, so this could be helpful to formulate a reply. I've never used a Guest User selection, but do have more than one User.
If the computer does not have an optical drive, you may be able to boot it into a recovery disk mode or something; in an attempt to see what is wrong and maybe fix it.
    Good luck & happy computing!
