AirPort won't reconnect after wake in OS 10.6.7

My iMac will no longer reconnect to my WiFi network after restart or wake from sleep.  I have to manually add my network (configured with hidden SSID so I have to type in the name and password) and then the connection is fine, until next sleep.  This only affects one of the two iMacs on our home network, and only started recently. I searched these discussions and only found old threads for OS 10.4 which don't apply as the Network Preferences dialog has changed.  I tried restarting the AirPort base station, turning AirPort on and off, and uninstalling Norton firewall I(which I thought might have been the culprit), all to no avail. I use OS 10.6.7, and an AirPort Extreme.  The network uses WPA2 Personal security.
How can I get AirPort to reconnect after wake again?  Any tips appreciated.  Thanks.

It might help to reset the connection settings on your Mac using these steps one at a time until the problem is resolved, recognizing that, depending on your problem, not all of these steps will make sense:
1) Use the AirPort menu bar item to turn AirPort off, then on again.
2) Try to select your Wi-Fi network from the AirPort menu.
3) In the Network panel of System Preferences delete the AirPort item from the left column, then add it back.
4) In the same panel as (3), define a new location and see if you can make that work.
5) In the same panel, select the AirPort connection item, click the "Advanced" button, select the "TCP/IP" tab, then click "Renew DHCP Lease".  Note that the fix this step implements may be temporary.
6) In the folder /Library/Preferences ( _not_ <yourhomefolder>/Library/Preferences), move the folder SystemConfiguration onto the Desktop, then restart your computer. See if you can now make your AirPort connection work.
These steps may not help, but they'll only take a couple of minutes to try.  Before you try these, if you have any special network settings on your Mac for things like DSL credentials, note all your network settings, because the latter steps will destroy them.  If you got all the way to the last step, if things don't work any worse than before, you can trash the saved SystemConfiguration folder.

  • Airport does not reconnect after standby...

Is anyone having issues w/ wireless not reconnecting after standby? In order to resolve the problem, I have to turn airport off then back on. Most of the time I can get back on using on/off method, but seldomly I have to reboot. This is my config:
SSID is not broadcasted, using capital letters and numbers for SSID Name.
WPA TKIP set for router encryption. WPA Personal selected on Airport.
I don't seem to have this problem on my Macbook running Leopard, so I'm pretty sure it's hardware/driver related to my Macbook Pro. I have to keep tabs on this, but I almost think this problem does not appear when a network SSID is broadcasted and/or unecrypted. It could be my imagination but not sure.
Any ideas or same issues out there?

I always have the same problem; I assume it has something to do with the fact that I regularly switch my cable modem to "standby" when done surfing the internet. Seemingly Airport loses the signal (or whatever) because the modem isn't feeding a signal being in standby mode? When I turn the modem back on, I have to turn Airport back on as well. So far, I've just felt it to be a small inconvenience.

  • Airport won't work after comes out of sleep- PowerBook 15" Titanium

    Hey everybody,
I've been using my PowerBook G4 for quite a while without any problems. Recently, and I'm not sure exactly what I did before it started happening, every time I close my powerbook and it goes to sleep, the AirPort card no longer works when I open it back up, it just shows grey bars for no signal. I've tried setting up the connection again by entering an SSID when it does this and it just tells me with a generic error that it can't join the network.
It works perfectly if I restart the computer, but without fail stops working again the next time I close it up. I've reset the PRAM and the open firmware and it made no difference. I also have all the latest updates installed. Does anybody have any idea what could be causing this and what the solution would be?
    Thanks

Since no-one else has chimed in...
Back at the end of April Apple released a Security Update (2007-004). They quickly replaced this with 2007-004 v1.1 due to an issue with Airport not reconnecting after sleep, however the issue was supposed to only affect 10.3.9 machines.

  • Slow Wi-Fi Reconnect After Wake from Sleep (Macbook Pro Retina Mid 2012)

    Hello!
I'm not sure if anyone has experienced this problem, maybe someone out there can help.
The issue I'm having is with Wi-Fi taking a long time to reconnect after my Macbook Pro Retina wakes from sleep. Usually I need to go and reselet the network.
I've gone through some trouble shooting forums and have had no success. I've tried turning off Wi-Fi and turning it back on after a couple minutes and it turns on right away.
    Has anyone experienced this problem?

  • Airport Express won't reconnect after Airport Extreme is rebooted

So my problem is this.  The whole system is made up of 2 "old" Airport Expresses, 1 brand new Airport Express and an older Airport Extreme.  I have the two older Airports set up to "join" the network and have one hooked up to my printer and one to my pool computer.  I then setup the new Express to "extend" the network to cover more of the house.  This all works great when I first set it up.  The problem comes when I have to reboot the Extreme.  When I do this, the new express will not reconnect to the network but just flashes amber until I unplug and replug it.  The old ones reconnect and go back to green with no intervention at all.  I tried setting up the new express as both "join" and "extend" and in both cases it will not reconnect to the Extreme unless I power cycle it.  Why am I having this issue with the new one, and the old ones work just fine.  Is there a setting I need to adjust on the new one or on the Extreme or ...
NO security, just a hidden SSID.
    Thanks

Redo the setup of the express.. I am not quite sure I am following the problem but you are better setting a new wireless name rather than use the default. Did you also set security on to WPA2 Personal with a decent password?
If the MBP that has issues was recently updated to 10.8.5 it might need an SMC reset.. also check if your model laptop has a SMC upgrade as there are some wireless issues around.

  • 10.9.2 upgrade and now wifi will not automatically reconnect after wake from sleep

I upgraded to 10.9.2 on my mid-2012 Macbook air and now when i wake the laptop from sleep the wifi will not automatically reconnect. I have to physically click on my network to re-join it.

Test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Make sure the network is on the preferred list by following these instructions. It's important to read the article carefully, as it's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem. If you skip any of the steps, the problem may not be solved. Make sure the box marked
Remember networks this computer has joined
    is checked.
    2. Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading
Symptom: After restarting or waking from sleep, my computer might not connect to the Internet
    3. Reset the PRAM.
    4. Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    5. From the Location menu at the top of the Network preference pane, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.
    6. Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
    7. Repair permissions on the startup volume.
    8. Turn off Bluetooth and test.
    9. Reset the System Management Controller.
    10. Reinstall OS X.

  • My airport won't work after sleep

I have a powerbook G4. I have used it flawlessly for years between two locations, closing it up to sleep and opening up at the new location. It would find the airport base stations and connect perfectly. Now when I open it up, airport does not automatically connect and in fact does not show any of my neighbors' wifi hot spots. I use the airport utility and it finds nothing. Turning my airport on and off won't work either. In order for airport to work, I must reboot each time.
    Any suggestions?
    Powerbook g4 1GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

If after installing Security Update 2007-004 on OS10.3.9 and after waking from Sleep you experience a kernel panic notification (black pane) to reboot with the power button ......... do the following:
Reboot .... then apply /App/Utilities/Disk Utility/Repair Permissions .... shut down .... Reboot while holding down Command-Option-P-R keys together until the computer chimes three(3) individual times ... release keys to complete reboot .... Repair Permissions again ... click the soft Restart .... Sleep the computer then wake it up .... the kernel panic pane should be gone.
P.S. If after the above you still have Airport issues (you probably have the Airport "b" card), go to /System/Library/Extensions and delete to Trash all BUT the latest Airport Extension (check by DATE, not the version number). To permanently remove the AP2.kext, you must use Admin. password.

  • Magic Mouse won't reconnect after Lion upgrade

Okay, I'll lay this out as quickly and consisely as possible.
I've searched every post and site I can find and tried everything suggested, and still no luck.
I have Mac Pro with an external bluetooth dongle, Magic Mouse, and I have just upgraded to OSX 10.7 Lion.
My Magic Mouse has always reconnected flawlessly to my machine after booting or waking, but after upgrading to Lion, it refuses to re-pair after booting or waking.  In bluetooth preferences, I can see in the Devices pane that "Steven's Mouse" is disconnected, but every couple of seconds this will flash green and show "Connected" - but only for a half second - and then it's back to "Not Connected".
I've set BT setup assistant to open on startup, and only when I have manually deleted and re-paired my Magic Mouse using the keyboard does the Magic Mouse connect.
Then sleep and wake and I'm back to square one.
    I have:
Restarted after trashing every bluetooth .plist file (~/Library/Preferences and also HD/Library/Preferences) - and bluetooth drivers
    Sone several SMC Resets
    Zapped my PRAM
    Made my mouse a 'Favorite'
Deleted and re-paired it more times than I can count
Turned the mouse on and off
    Clicked it
    Double-clicked it
    Kept clicking it
    Turned it on and off
    Triple-checked the batteries
Tested my mouse with another machine running SL
Tested another mouse with my machine
    - All with no luck whatsoever.  I'm about down to writing a suicide note or something!!!
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Steven
(BTW I'm 100% sure the issue is within the Lion system somewhere - not my hardware.

Hi, I had the same problem but it's fixed now.  It seems that the order you turn mouse and bluetooth off and on makes the difference.  This is what worked on my macbook pro (eventually!):
turn off bluetooth and mouse.  Turn on bluetooth.  Open system preferences.  Open mouse. It starts searching. then Turn on mouse.  Hey presto! (and much to my surprise) it found it.
It also worked if I left the mouse on, and turned it off and on after opening the mouse in system preferences and it had started searching.  But if, for example, I turned on the mouse before opening system preferences,it was no go.
There is another issue:  I (like I suspect a lot of people) switch between lion and snow leopard (Macbook Pro and Mac Mini respectively), and every time it has to be paired manually. I have found I have to use the entire process shown above with both OSs.
Also, the mouse has to be paired to Lion at every startup.  I never have to re-pair the mouse with Snow leopard on startup (unless it's been paired to Lion in the meantime!).
I hope that some of this might help someone, even just a little.

  • ZVM Won't Reconnect After Reset

My ZVM froze on me this afternoon, stuck in the "Shutting Down" mode.
I let it be, thinking it would right itself.
Eight full hours later, it was still stuck. So I reset it.
I got a "Low Battery" warning, so I hooked it up to the charger (with the attachment thingie that also doubles as a USB connector).
But in doing so, my computer won't recognize that the ZVM is plugged in. I keep getting a "Your player is not connected" message in the ZVM Media Explorer.
    Help!
(FYI: I do see the "Docked" symbol and I've also rebooted my computer)

Is the battery charging or charged. If the battery is charged do a cleanup>reboot from the recovery screen.http://forums.creative.com/creativel...ap&thread.id=3

It might be firmware is already old. Make sure printserver’s firmware is updated. Reset and reconfigure.

  • Bluetooth Keyboard won't reconnect after reboot

I have a new Macbook Pro (early 2008 model) that keeps losing my bluetooth keyboard everytime I restart the Mac. I have to either Browse devices and turn the keyboard on and off (I put new batteries in the keyboard recently, so I don't think that is the problem) or else I have to set the keyboard up again from scratch as a new Bluetooth device. Once I get it working again it works fine until I restart.
    This is getting tedious.

Hiya I would advise to try and reset SMC on your MPB and see if it helps.

  • Airport not Reconnecting after waking from sleep

    Hi all,
I have a problem with Airport not automatically reconnecting after the computer wakes from sleep or is turned on or rebooted. I have it set to join a specific network automatically. Any idea why this may be? It used to work just fine.

I had this problem just recently and seem to have fixed it today. I made the following changes:
I changed security from WPA2 to WPA using the Airport Admin Utility.
I went to the Network Preferences panel and found that the network was still listed as WPA2, so I deleted it.
I then added the WPA network to my preferred network list.
The computer now reconnects automatically after sleep or shutdown.
I don't know whether changing from WPA2 to WPA was necessary. It may be that all you need to do is delete and re-add the network.
    Hope that helps!
