Airprint for iPhone - can I use my personal hotspot?

Just bought and set up a airprint-capable HP Officejet Pro 8600 to use with my ipad and iphone 5.  If it requires access to my active wifi, how does airprint work if I'm outiside my wifi area or in an area that is outside my wifi area and does not have access to any public wifi connection?  Will airprint work on my iphone 5 when I connect to the internet with my personal hotspot?  I tried the airprint at home via my wifi on my iPad and that worked fine (and recognized my HP 8600).  Then I tried that on my iPhone 5 via my wifi connection.  That also proved successful.  Then I tried using airprint on the iPhone via my personal hotspot but there was no recognition of an airprint printer.  I must say I am somewhat disappointed with the results I've gotten so far since HP makes the claim that I can print from the WEB from ANYWHERE.  Thanks for any assistance you can render.

You can print from the web anywhere with the HP printer. However, it requires you to have the printer set up with the HP provided email address for the phone. Then, whenever you want to print something to the printer (from anywhere) you send it as an email. The printer receives it and prints it. Take a look back at the user guide.
You are confusing the ability of the iPhone to connect to an AirPrint capable printer (only on the same wifi network) with HP's ability to do web printing. Two completely different scenarios.

Can I use the personal hotspot on the iPhone 4 with the iPad 4th generation which only has wifi ?
Thank you in advance for your help :)

Unlimited Internet is different than the carrier supporting the hotspot feature. I don't have an iPhone or an iPad with cellular. My limited knowledge about the hotspot is from reading support articles about it and from what I have read here in the forum.
I don't know that circumstances with the carriers have changed, but initially, the was an extra cost to enable the hotspot feature on the iDevice. I believe that Verizon was charging an additional $20 per month for the feature. Check out the support article that I posted above.
This is copied from that article that I posted above.
Note: If you do not see the option for Personal Hotspot, confirm with your carrier that this feature is supported and your wireless plan is configured for Personal Hotspot. For additional troubleshooting, see this article.

  • HT204023 Can I use the personal hotspot on my iphone 4 to gain internet access on my Nexus 7?  Do I need a tether cable?

I have an iPhone 4 with ios 6 with hotspot capability.  Can I use this hotspot to gain internet access for my Nexus 7?  And if so, does it require a tether cable or can I access via bluetooth?  Was given the Nexus as a gift, would not have been my choice because of wi fi access capability restrictions.   I am very technically challenged.  Any help would be appreciated.

If the iPhone can connect to the wifi, the computer can connect to the wifi.
Why use the iPhone to connect to wifi then connect the computer to the iPhone via wifi to get the computer onto hotel wifi?

  • FIOS DVR Manager for iPhone - can I use more than one iPhone?

Can the FIOS DVR manager be used from more than one iPhone for the same DVR?

Only one device can be used at a time to program your ASTB. In theory, you can use different phones however, each time you switch devices you will need to register the phone and obtain a new authorization code to access your ASTB.

  • How can I download or use my personal hotspot?

I want to use my personal hotspot in this iPad? How?

Your tagline shows that you have an iPad2. You can't use the personal hotspot with the second generation iPad.

  • Can I share my personal hotspot with a "wifi only iPad mini" or does ithe ipad have to be wifi   cellular device? I'm using an iPhone 5 with ios7.2

I am about to buy an ipad mini for my daughter, with wifi only capability & wondered if I was able to share my internet connection via my personal hotspot on this device. I know that you can on an ipad with wifi + cellular device, but wondered how it worked for the wifi only model. I have an iphone 5 ios7.2 & would be using my personal hotspot from this to share with the ipad mini in car journeys etc. The wifi obviously is great when at home. Thanks for any advice or comments.

Thank you so much, a direct answer on something Ive been trying to get an answer for all morning. ipad mini with wifi only, is capable of sharing a personal hotspot on my iphone 5, but you think that in some cases it can be expensive. My provider insists that my personal hotspot sharing is free. I am with 3. Problem solved.

    Hey there arunvdi,
It sounds like you are unable to connect to the Wi-Fi created by your Personal Hotspot. I recommend these troubleshooting steps from the article named:
    iOS: Troubleshooting Personal Hotspot
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2756
Try disabling and reenabling Personal Hotspot from Settings > Personal Hotspot or Settings > General > Cellular > Personal Hotspot.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
    Wi-Fi troubleshooting
If you encounter an issue using Personal Hotspot with other Wi-Fi devices, try the following:
    Turn Personal Hotspot off.
Verify Wi-Fi is on in Settings > Wi-Fi.
    Turn Personal Hotspot back on.
If another device is unable to join your Wi-Fi network, ensure that the user enters the Wi-Fi password correctly. If the device cannot see your Wi-Fi network, verify your device name.
Note: Windows may not properly display a device name that uses non-ASCII characters.
Verify how many devices are currently using your Personal Hotspot. Depending on your wireless carrier and, the maximum number of Wi-Fi connections may be limited to three at one time.
If the other device still cannot connect, try turning Wi-Fi off and on again on the device. Verify that your device can see other Wi-Fi networks.
Note: If you see an "Unable to Join" or timeout error when trying to connect a device using Wi-Fi, ensure that you remain on the Personal Hotspot screen until the first device connects. After a device has connected, you can leave the Personal Hotspot screen and use your phone normally. Your device will automatically stop broadcasting using Wi-Fi if you put your device to sleep or after 90 seconds elapse with no devices connected using Wi-Fi. You can start broadcasting your Wi-Fi network again by tapping Settings > Personal Hotspot.
If none of the previous steps resolves your issue, restore the iPhone.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Regards,
    Sterling

  • With iOs 7 and the iPhone can someone use the phone while also using a communication app such as Speak It or Assistive Chat? These are text to speech systems for people who cannot speak well. Thanks you!

With ios 7 and the iPhone can someone use their phone while also using a text to speech app, such as Speak It or Assistive Chat? These apps are used by people who have difficulty with speech production.
    Thank you.

My iPhone 5 wouldn't start after I turned it off a few minutes after writing this. It went into recovery mode and I had no choice but to connect to iTunes on PC and restore.
I restored to factory setting first, just to validate my phone was okay. For a second consecutive iOS update, the  iPhone 5 did not update smoothly while connected to PC and iTunes - I had to retry two times before the progress bar for the update showed. (The exact same problem with the restart occured when I updated to 7.0.4.)
The good news is that I was ultimately able to restore the iPhone 5 to factory settings while running iOS 7.0.6. I did have a backup from about a month ago lying around and was able to successfully restore with that as well, so the damage done is almost negligible since I had my contacts, notes, mail, etc. backed up to iCloud.
Once I completed both restores, the sync with iTunes worked fine.

If my husband has his own apple ID for an iphone, can he use my macbook to get music onto his phone? My macbook has a seperate apple ID

Yes, but if you are asking if he can add your existing iTunes music to his existing Apple ID then the answer is no. This may explain your options:

  • HT1384 I have an iphone 4s just got the nano for xmas can i use my iphone charger to charge my nano

I have an iphone 4s just got the nano 6th generation for xmas can i use my iphone charger to charge the nano?

Yes, you can. The iPhone 4S and 6th generation iPod nano use the same 30-pin charger, unlike the new Lightning charger used by the iPhone 5 and 7th generation iPod nano.

  • If I purchase an app for iphone can that be used for ipad as well?

If I purchase an app for iphone can that be used for ipad as well? or viceversa..? If yes, can I retrieve the same app when I purchase a new iphone (ofcourse I maintain the same app id) free of cost?

Some can, some cannot. Most iPhone apps can be used on an iPad (though not all), but the reverse is true less often. Check the specifications and system requirements for the app you're interested in. You can easily add the app, presuming it's compatible, of course, to any new iPhone without additional charge either by synching it from iTunes or by downloading the app again from the iTunes Store.
