Airtunes-Airport for Windows Network settings?

I have a G4 and a G5 running pretty well on an airtunes wireless network. I keep a PC on the network to access some old software etc. I just ran the airport setup wizard in windows, but my PC can't see either MAC. Both MACs can see the shared folders on the PC and I can access them. I haven't tried the printer sharing yet. Am I missing a setting on the airport that allows a PC to see the MACs? I am also running EZ firewall on the PC. Do I have outgoing firewall settings to worry about, or again am I missing something simple. I also have Bonjour installed on the PC.
Any help will be appreciated. By the way I am using the WEP2 encryption. Will a PC compromise my security?

How can I get airport for windows to detect my newly installed time capsule?

I purchase Time Capsule and Apple TV nearly 2 months ago. I'm just trying to set up Time Capsule via my PC. I've downloaded the Airport for Windows Vista and have got my device already hooked up, but Airport is not detecting the device. I've tried unplugging and rebooting all devices but nothing that I've tried has worked. Any helpful ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

So you have a Mac somewhere??
Is the TC plugged into the computer using ethernet?? If not do so.. press and hold the reset for 10sec until the front led flashes rapidly.. you want no other network connection to the TC or the computer.
Make sure the computer is set in local network,, ie home, not work or public.
You might have to turn off the firewalls.. if a laptop they are sometimes provided with multiple firewalls.. turn all of them off.
Make sure you are getting an ip from the TC.. if not there is something wrong.. check the ethernet cord is good, and the connectivity led goes on, on both the TC and the computer.. plug it into a different port.
Once you have access then you can complete the setup.

Airport for Windows doesn't start due to missing dnssd.dll?

I've just installed AirPort for Windows v5.4.2 on my Windows XP SP3 laptop, yet it doesn't start due to a supposedly missing dnssd.dll file.
The error message states: "This application has failed to start because dnssd.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem" .
Re-installing does not fix this. Any ideas?

That's interesting. It's actually a BonJour dll, and it lives at:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dnssd.dll
I can replicate your error message by dragging the dll out of system32 and on to the desktop prior to trying to launch the Airport utility.
If it has gone walkabout for you in a similar fashion, here's a way of getting it back.
Restart the PC. Now head into your Add or Remove Programs Control Panel. Select BonJour, click "Change" and then click "Repair".
Does the repair install of BonJour go through properly? If so, can you open the Airport utility without the error message?

Airport for Windows unable to update Apple ID, but still gives "Unknown Error" and keeps opening Airport. NEED AN UPDATE!

I found out what's wrong only because I still have an old (2010) Macbook Pro and it's Airport software gets the same error, but it tells me what the problem is and let's me fix it. The problem was I changed my AppleID password and it's apparently stored in the Airport Extreme. The windows version just says Unknown Error and offers Software Update, but there is no update. The problem is Airport Utility keeps opening and repeating this error on all Windows machines. If I didn't have the old mac there would be no way out. Please update Airport for Windows.
PS: I don't have a new Mac because:
1. Price is more than $1,000 higher than comparable PC.
2. No 17" laptop offered.
3. Can get a really good graphics card.
4. Limited availability of the really high performance Intel chips.
5. Price is too high (oh, yes, I said that already).

How to select domain OU for "Apply Network Settings" task sequence step, based on the ip address.

We are finally getting ready to migrate from SCCM 2007 to 2012 R2.
Our current setup has 5 site servers with five OSD setups with boot media and Windows 7 task sequences.
I want to move all that to one site with a single OSD W7 task sequence.
The current, "apply network settings", step adds the workstation to one of five different OUs. The same with the "apply windows settings" step, we have five local admin passwords for five regions around the state.
I thought I might run five versions of each step and add a condition to each one that would only run if the machine was on the right subnet. Or the right Boundary group or maybe the right active directory site.
Currently I'm creating five boundary groups that I hope to detect by running a power script get-CmBoundaryGroup. Then apply the results maybe as a task sequence variable in the task steps options/Add Conditions.
Anybody have a better approach. Or alternate plan.

Are you integrated with MDT? If so, you can use customsettings.ini to put machines into specific OUs based on the DefaultGateway.

Hi Guys,
Just want to confirm that the domain join account credentials is in clear text during the winpe phrase. I understand we can a user account with just domain join access but it still a security breach for us. Is there an alternative? We are using SCCM 2012

Task Sequence Steps in Configuration Manager shows the Apply Network Settings task sequence step store the specified values in the appropriate answer file format for use by Windows Setup when the
Setup Windows and ConfigMgr task sequence step is run. The account credentials stored in answer file should be in plain text.
If you are still worried about this, you could create a custom answer file to join domain. The article
Configure Settings in an Answer File in Image Configuration Editor shows the credentials are stored in plain text in the answer file.

No airport icon in network settings

Hi there,
I've read hundreds of threads about the airport problems on the macbook pro, as i got the "no airport installed" notification when clicking on the icon.
I have a Macbook Pro 13inch and reinstalled it and now my airport icon on the desktop is all gone and i can't find it either in network settings.:S
If i look at my hardware setup it shows the airport card.
Does anyone have a clue how to fix this without opening the macbook all the way?

The Airport icon is in the menu and not on the desktop. System>Preferences>Network. Check the box, "Show Airport status..."

I've lost my AirPort icon in network settings - can't get wifi - how do I get it back..??

So I'm pretty green whe it comes to computers but trying to work through this....
My Macbook Pro's wi fi dropped out - I tried to re-activate it and inadvertedly removed the airport icon from my network connections options..
I'm assuming it's a fairly simple fix but I do not have the know-how.... Can anyone please help me work through this, it would be much appreciated..!!!

I have the same problem with airport.
On 'Network' page when I try to add an interface AirPort is not an option.
I only can choose from firewire, ethernet, bluetooth DUN, VPN, PPPoE or 6 to 4....
How did you fix it?

Config AirPort for a network that needs login

hi. my university requires a login to use the Internet. That means that I can only have one device connected at a time.
with the airport express can I conect my iPad and iPhone at the same time? How can I configure the airport for that?

Why does my Windows PC always say Incorrect Password when I Try to Connect to the Time Capsule storage by Airport for Windows?

I just installed AirPort on My Windows PC.
Now I wont to Connect to the hard drive of Time Capsule to share Data with my MacBook.
Air Port always says "wrong password".
I even tryed to change the password, restart the PC, restart Time Capsule ...
Nothing happans.
The Ethernet connection, Internet connection and printer connection works great, but not the Hard drive!!!
Can anyone help me???

Sorry I went off to dream land and Apple decided to glitch their server so the edit failed. I am answering different posts with different problems and went off about networking. Blame it on age.
You can ignore most of the post above.
But I do still want you to connect direct to the TC without any other connections.
Reset it to factory by holding in the reset and then powering on.. keep holding in reset until the led flashes rapidly. This is a total wipe of settings.
I do want you to use airport utility to access the TC.. to erase the disk, and restart as a fresh new TC.
Do not password it.. do not change anything from defaults except to turn on Guest network give it read and write permissions.. And to set the correct workgroup.. update the TC. .
Then try to access the TC . if it asks for a password it is public. username can be anything but either current username on the pc or admin.
BTW make sure you are logging into windows.. just booting straight to desktop ruins the security permissions and loads of things do not work. You must log into windows.. and then log into the TC.
If it doesn't work as I said try linux os or reinstall windows.. that is necessary every couple of years anyway.. it will work.. you have a permissions issue or networking issue.. these can be cleared.

Using Airport for office network and still connect to public wifi

I work in the public sector and we have open public wifi network that we can connect to, but have no control over and would never be given no access by our service user. we are a small sub contractor in a office tucked away.
We have 3 Macs and 2 wifi printers and several iPhones and iPads, our thought was to link them all and create a mini local network using the Airport extreme but still stay connected to the Wifi. as the only other option would be a 4G router but that is hit and miss with the connection.
After much stubbornness on my behalf i can not seem to fathom a way round this problem, is there a solution with the devices we have

No we can't get access from the company we work for they let us have wifi access only with no controls.
and the building has no phone access as we are in the middle of a hospital.
the office has all its devices and printers that we can't link but separately we can connect to the guest wifi

AirTunes / Airport Express / Windows XP not working together

Here's the issue. I have two PCs available to me; a laptop from work that is tightly locked down by our paranoid IT dept, and a family desktop that has the iTunes library within it. I purchased airport express so that I could stream to my stereo. The laptop does not have iTunes on it, the IT dept having cunningly deployed some way of blocking its install. They did not, however, block airport utility.
Both computers connect happily over wireless to Verizon FiOs and on into the wider world.
1) The laptop's airport utility will happily locate and allow configuration of the express unit.
2) The desktop unit, however, does not find the airport express at all finding no apple wireless devices. However, knowing from the laptop (and from direct to the fios router's network map utility) I can tell airport utility to "configure other" supplying the express' IP address and p/w. Then it finds it and can configure away until I hit the update button. It then can find it no longer until I configure other again.
The point is, iTunes / air Tunes, hosted on the same desktop, displays, I suspect, similar behavior. It never finds the "speakers".
I have tried switching off Norton's firewall altogether, the windows firewall altogether, going w/o any WEP or WPA without luck. Also, I have tried configuring the unit as first as a "joining an existing wireless network", and, second, as it own new wireless network again without avail.
I have spent 4 hrs with Apple support and we thought we had it licked; the speakers appeared briefly after switching to a "bridge" connection share mode. The speakers duly showed up. Letting the gentleman go off the phone in triumph, I stupidly neglected to test the connection from iTunes through to the amp and ran into the error code 15000. Trying some of the ideas in these and other forums to beat that then led me back to square one, never seeing the much anticipated speakers again.
Any ideas out there?

I detected a problem with Airport+iTunes in Vista and some XP machines.
I have 3 machines: Lenovo 3000 N200 Vista, Compaq nx9010 XP and Asus EEE Top XP.
On the Compaq, APutil and iTunes perform flawlessly 100% of the time. However, on the Lenovo and the Asus, ApUtil doesn´t detect my 2 Airport Express, and iTunes will drop the connection after 30-60 minutes. Then I have to restart iTunes in order that it "sees" my Airports again.
At first, I thought it was a problem with Vista. Later, as it happened on my Asus XP, I thought it was a hardware/driver compatibility problem. Then I decided to make some experiments.......
I found that at startup, 2 processes are activated: iTuneshelper and APAgent.
I cancelled both of them. Voila ! Suddenly APUtil detects my Airports, and no more dropped connections in iTunes !!!!!
Now, it remains still unanswered to me: Why did the problem not happen on my Compaq ???

Help configuring airport for Windows 7 using Basecamp

I installed windows 7 on Basecamp but I can't figure out how to configure it to work wirelessly with my airport base station. If this helps I'm using an AirPort Extreme (0x14E4, 0x93) card that came with the MBP.
I know very little about windows so please explain simply if possible.

My question is after I setup airport express as a router and go through the complete setup process, naming it, setting passwords etc, can I then plug into another cable modem via ethernet cable I have at another home and be able to connect wirelessly to my phone, ipad etc without doing another setup?
