AirTunes and Bang & Olufsen

Hi.
I just bought the BeoLab4 loudspeakers from Bang & Olufsen and connected them to my AirPort Express. I use a 3.5 mm minijack cable, not a B&O MasterLink cable.
At a minimum soundlevel in iTunes the speakers play very loud. I can't turn the volume down, but I can turn it louder. Even the minimum soundlevel is too loud for normal use.
The BeoLab4 is a pair of active loudspeakers with integrated amplifiers and powersupply. There is no volume switch on the loudspeakers.
Before I used my old PC-loudspeakers. It was a 5.1 kit with a subwoofer with an integrated amplifier and powersupply. The AirPort was connected til this subwoofer. This worked fine.
When I connect the BeoLab4 to the headset output (line out) on my MacBook, the speakers plays in a normal soundlevel, and I can turn the volume up and down. Just as I'm used to.
Is there anyone who knows why this happen when i connect the speakers to my AirPort Express? Is there a difference in the output on the AirPort Express vs the line out on the MacBook?

The AirPort Express Base Station (AX) support either a 3.5 mm stereo minijack to RCA cable for analog or a 3.5 mm minijack to TOSLINK fiber optic cable for digital output.
Doing a quick review on these speakers revealed that only the following two cabling options are available:
- 2-piece set of 3.5 mm mono mini plug > RCA M
- 3.5mm stereo mini plug > 2 x 3.5 mono mini plugs
Sounds like (sorry, no pun intended) that there is a potential mis-match on cabling requirements.

  • IPhone 5 and Bang & Olufsen earset 3i headset: mutes when I plug it in

    Hi all
I've done a sweep of the discussion boards can find no similar issue:
As the title says, when I plug in my B&O earset 3i into a 64Gb iPhone 5, the volume goes to silent/mute.
Has anyone else had the same experience and is there a way for me to stop this from happening?
    Thanks in advance
    Graeme

For those of you who bump into  this question in the future:
The workaround I ended up using is that before I play a track after the headphones are plugged in, I increase the volume. Mildly annoying but not a deal breaker.
Oh, and the mute occurs when I use the headphone remote not when I plug in teh headset, as my question implied.

  • Output by AirTunes AND computer

Can I play music in iTunes via AirTunes AND my computer together? It seems that I only can choose between my Computer or AirTunes.
    PowerBook G4 1.33 GHz, G5 2x 1,8 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I did a Airport Firmware Update 6.3 and the problem was solved.

  • Playing Music via Airtunes and using as a repeater simultaneously

Id like to use Airport Express as a repeater and a client for playing music via Airtunes simultaneously. Is this possible anyhow? I do only have two choices using the airport-assistant: 1st Connecting to use Airtunes and bonjour printer; 2nd using as a repeater. This can´t be everything!

alterkram, Welcome to the discussion area!
Regardless if you configure the AirPort Express (AX) to join a wireless network or as part of a WDS, both Airtunes (music streaming) and wireless printing are available.

  • Apple TV does not "learn" the IR commands from a Bang & Olufsen (Beo4) remote

Under Settings-General-Remotes is possible that the Apple TV "learn" the IR commands from any other (non Apple) remote.
However I have tried this with a Beo4 remote (Bang & Olufsen), but the Apple TV does not recognise the Beo4 remote IR commands.
Is this feature expected for a next update of the Apple TV?
(my Apple TV is 3rd generation)

Thanks a lot pluimpje, I understand now why it is not woking.
Initially I thought that probably in a next update of the apple tv firmware it would reconise the Beo4.
But I am afraid that this will not happen ever ( at least with the current apple tvs)
I am interested in to know how can I equipe such module in my Beo 4.

  • Firewall Message with Airtunes and AppleTV

I am using iTunes 8.02 on a Mac running Tiger 10.4.11. I like to stream my music to my AppleTV (which is running the most recent version of the firmware). My wireless router is an Airport Express (running the latest v6.3 software).
In iTunes, I see a drop down menu showing me my AppleTV. When I select it, I see a pop up warning message:
"Your Computers firewall settings will prevent you from using Airtunes.
    Please check your Firewall settings
Learn More Ignore Open Firewall Settings"
I click ignore and it works!!
But Why am I getting this message?
I have followed the instructions in:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2278
I have even disabled "Stealth Mode" in Tiger's firewall suggested in the forums.
    What am I missing?
Why do I still get this warning message (yet it works when I click Ignore)?
    Rob

Then I would be wireless from G5 and AppleTV to the internet. But I would loose the AirTunes / Express capability?
You could only have one function at one time. (So you can't use your G5 and Apple TV on the internet while using AirTunes) as (AFAIK) the AirPort express can't be used as a 'wireless access point' at the same time as AirTunes.
    To try and summarize
If you want to use AirTunes and have your computer and Apple TV connected to the same network with internet connectivity at the same time you can:
    1. Purchase an AirPort Extreme base station.
    2. Connect your cable modem to the AirPort extreme via ethernet, set up a WiFI network and connect your G5 and Apple TV.
    3. Join your AirPort express to the AirPort extreme network via client mode.

  • I have 3 airport express units, an Ipod and a PC.  I used the PC to set up an airTunes and the AirUtility can see all three of the airexpresses.  The Ipod displays all of the airexpresses and I can pick any one to stream music to. PC won't - any ideas?

I have 3 airport express units, an Ipod and a Windows 7 PC.  I used the PC to set up an iTunes/airTunes and the AirUtility can see all three of the expresses.  The Ipod displays all of the expresses and I can pick any one to stream music to. The PC won't - any ideas? AirUtility tells me the 7.5.2 version of the firmware is the latest for the expresses and ITunes is also reporting that there are no upgrades available.  I get an error code -15000 when I try to connect from the PC to one of the expresses.

How do I configure the AX to connect to the hub's wireless network? It will only scan one base station Airport Express at a time in the Airport Utility. I think what I am trying to do is use the hub as a router to the two AX's. Is there a specific way to set this up?
To set up the AX to join a wireless network as a "Wireless Client," using the AirPort Utility, either connect to the AX's wireless network or temporarily connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, try these settings:
    Launch the AirPort Utility.
    Select the AX.
If not already connected to the AX's wireless network, go ahead and switch to it when prompted.
AirPort Utility > Select the AX > Manual Setup > AirPort > Wireless
Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
Network Name: <type in the network name/SSID of the wireless network that you want to join or select it from the pop-up menu>
Wireless Security: None OR, if you are using security on your wireless network:
Wireless Security: <Select the appropriate level of security for the existing wireless network: WPA/WPA2 Personal | WPA2 Personal>
Password: <enter your wireless network security password>
Verify Password: <re-enter the same security password>
Click Update to write the new settings to the AX.

  • How configure appleTv on a bang&olufsen tv

  • Can't connect Airport Express wirelessly to network so that AirTunes and internet are available simultaneously

I can't connect Airport Express wirelessly to network so that AirTunes and internet are available simultaneously.  My old AE allowed this but can't make the new one work that way.

In your instructions, you say to use the same encryption type as the router has set up. well, I am using the WEP 64 bit encryption and the Airport Utility does not have this...it has 40 bit. Is this a problem, or do I have to be using a the same type of encrytion ?
WEP is available in either 40 or 104-bit, but is usually "advertised" as either 64- or 128-bit respectively. For example, 64-bit WEP uses a 40 bit key (also known as WEP-40), which is concatenated with a 24-bit initialization vector (IV) to form the 64-bit RC4 traffic key. So, WEP 64 on the Linksys & 40-bit is equivalent.
What concerns me more is the loss of bandwidth performance you are experiencing when connecting the AX. When the AX is configured as a wireless client it is acting just like any other wireless devices (computer, laptop, printer, etc.) and not like another router. This should cause little or no bandwidth loss. True the more secure the wireless encryption used WPA2 vs. WEP, the more overhead is required for security, but the differences you are seeing seem excessive.
It is very possible that you may have some form of Wi-Fi interference in the immediate area that is preventing your Linksys from providing a good clean signal.
I suggest you perform a simple site survey, using utilities like the following to determine potential areas of interference, and then, try to either eliminate or significantly reduce them where possible:
    For Macs:
    o MacStumbler
    o iStumbler, or
    For PCs:
    o NetStumbler

  • Airtunes AND ethernet at the same time?

    Aloha All,
    I think I have a simple question.
Providing I use the WDS option, which requires either a AEBS or a WRT54G router, can I simulatenously run airtunes AND use the ethernet port (not wireless) on my AX?
I would like to use my AX to supply my non-wireless PC tower with internet, while continuing to use the same AX for airtunes, without buying another AX. I currently do not have either an AEBS or a WRT54G, but am willing to buy one of those...
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    ccolgrove

    Yes that is possible.

  • Bang & Olufsen software for win8.1

Hi,Is it possible to install the bang and olufsen software that was on my HP Omen Pro when it was running win7 (came preinstalled)? After upgrading to win8.1 I can not find the software in the download section.

If the DX has all the updates applied the connector works fine with 8.1.
Note a lot of the newer boxes have uEFI and you will need a hotfix to get backups working.  After you install the hotfix, all clients will get the updated Launchpad and require 2 reboots to be seen in the dashboard as online again.
Also everytime you reboot the DX check and make sure the system date is correct.  The date, not the time :)

  • Follow up question: Is there a way to wirelessly use Airtunes and internet

I had marked this post as resolved, but things have subsequently become quite 'unresolved.'
This is my original thread where I explain the problem and Tesserax provides an answer:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1702063&tstart=0
Here is where I am now:
I made the changes that Tesserax suggested, and everything worked fine for about an hour. Internet and airtunes worked simultaneously. Then, for no reason that I can discern, airtunes stopped working. It would no longer connect to remote speakers, giving me instead a -3256 error message. I scanned the forum for a fix, found that there have been firmware updates. I found that I had 6.3 installed on the AX, but I re-downloaded it just to be sure. No dice. I also made sure that the UDP was not being blocked in the Pref/Sharing/Firewall window. It wasn't. In fact there was no UDP button at all. Finally, when I try to use the Airport utility, both the base station and AX turn off and disappear altogether during the utility scan. They don't reappear until I close iTunes and utilities, and only then after rebooting themselves.
Any ideas about what might be causing all of this?
    Thank you,
    Peter

Yes, you can do both at the same time, by reconfiguring the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) as a "wireless client."
Either connect to the AX's wireless network or connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then using the AirPort Utility in "Manual Setup" mode, make the following changes:
    AirPort > Base Station
o Base Station Name: <rename or leave default>
    o Base Station Password: <enter desired password>
    o Verify Password: <re-enter desired password>
o Remember this password in my keychain: (optional)
    o Set time automatically: (unchecked)
    AirPort > Wireless
o Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
    o Network Name: <existing AEBS's wireless network>
o Wireless Security: <select the encryption type of the existing wireless network>
o Wireless Password: <enter the existing wireless network password>
o Verify Password: <re-enter the existing wireless network password>
    Music
    o Enable AirTunes (checked)
o iTunes Speaker Name: <enter desired speaker name>
    o iTunes Speaker Password: (optional)
    o Verify Password: (optional)
o Click Update to write the new settings to the AX
    In iTunes:
    iTunes > Preferences... > Advanced > General
o Look for remote speakers connected with AirTunes (checked)

  • How do I select to simultaneously stream (airtune) and play on my computer?

Hi everyone. So I keep reading that as of last January '06 (6.0.2) iTunes will let you stream to remote speakers and play the same song simultaneously on the computer's speakers. How do I do this?!? I have searched everything and everywhere (these forums, macosxhints, the usenet forums) for over 30 mins now and no one mentions "how" to do it, just that it can be done. That is, once everything is setup, is there a mystery screen that says "click here for both at once"? Am I supposed to right click on anything in particular?
iTunes only lets me select one at a time - on the bottom right of itunes, I have the box that lets me choose my remote speakers ("livingroomstereo") or my computer speakers ("computer"). But again, it only lets me click on one, not both...
I have: iMac G4, iTunes 7.0.2. My airport express is at v6.2 firmware. I use a linksys wrt54g as my base, and the airport express works perfectly as a client.
What is the mystery! I feel that something is missing since no one describe how to select multiple ones at once so that it must be totally obvious. And that leads me to beleive that I am not "missing" it, it just isn't there....
Here is the useless Apple FAQ:
Can my AirTunes stream play through my computer's speakers at the same time?
Answer: Yes. With iTunes 6.0.2 or later, you can play through both the computer speakers and multiple remote AirPort Express units, provided that each AirPort Express has the latest AirPort firmware (available here). The maximum number of remote AirPort Express units is three to six in typical conditions. The number that works for you will depend on your environmental conditions (such as building composition and local radio interference), distance to the remote AirPort Express units, and available network capacity relative to your other usage.
I hate things that tell you that you can do a particular thing, but then dont tell you how to, or at least don't tell you how to find out how to do it...
    Thanks!!!

    Ah man. thank you.
I hope Apple fixes the indirect problem with their FAQ. On their faq (that I excerpted below) they provide a link to check and DL the newest software and firmware. I went through their "check" and gave me the thumbs up...
Thank you for pointing out the problem..

  • Help, itunes doesn't want to work with airtunes and my airport express!

Strangely specific problem with playing itunes using airtunes. Just connected an Airport express to my time capsule. All the software and firmware is up to date, and I'm streaming from itunes to an airport express connected to a stereo. My itunes is on a laptop. My library is on the time capsule. Almost everytime the song changes, the audio drops out and stays out until I pause and replay the song. It's the weirdest thing. There are no random audio drops, just a failure to keep playing when the song switches (and it doesn't happen every time, just some of the time). This is similar but not the same as the problems other folks are having with airport express and itunes audio drop outs. Does anyone have a solution?
    rabbit

Problem solved. Upgrading to most recent itunes relased yesterday seems to have fixed the problem.

  • How I fixed lost airtunes and lost shared library

It happened to me over and over again. Sometimes it helped to restart AirPort Express, sometimes it didn't. Sometimes it helped to remove the preferences of iTunes, sometimes it didn't.
What helped me this time (and this was the fastest solution so far):
I KILLED the mDNSResponder process in the Activity viewer. You will need to enter your Admin password as this process is owned by root.
But on my machine it immediately brought back my Airtunes menu with my speakers in the living room and on other computers I could immediately see again the shared library.

and I can confirm this REALLY works!!!
I just now tested: AirTunes was grayed out (remote speakers could not be found)
    I killed mDNSResponder
    restarted iTunes
    voilà it's working
    for UNIX geaks:
    use:
    grep -aux | mDNS
    and then
sudo kill -9 (id of the task, second column)
