AirTunes and Wireless Speakers?

I would like to install speakers in a multiple room office unit that can be controlled using AirTunes. To avoid the wiring mess, I was wondering if there is any wireless speaker solution that can be used with AirTunes? Would something like the Klipsch RoomGroove Wireless Speaker System work?

Or am I limited to using speaker systems from a standard stereo unit (wired) with RCA inputs so the Airport Express can be connected? I couldn't tell if the Klipsch RoomGroove has any RCA inputs.

Hello 4thWall. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
The speakers must be connected via wire to the AirPort Express Base Station's (AX) audio port. You will not be able to stream iTunes (via AirTunes) directly to this wireless speaker system.

  • Can't play to AirTunes and local speakers at same time

I've just taken delivery of an AirPort Express purely to use the AirTunes feature. Setup was a doddle.
My MacBook Pro running OSX can route audio to AirTunes, or local speakers, or both at the same time - with no issues.
My XP PC, however, can route audio to the AirPort OR play locally, but fails when trying to select both sets of speakers at the same time with error -3256.
I'm using iTunes 7.0.2.16 on the PC. Having trawled other articles there's reports of a similar issue on OSX that's UDP/firewall related, so I've tried disabling the firewall on XP but this doesn't help. The PC is connected to the network via ethernet (into wireless access point).
I can't find any other method to raise the issue directly with Apple. I'd be interested to see if I'm the only one experiencing this issue or if it's a genuine bug.
    Cheers,
    Bobsta.

  • AirTunes and Local Speakers...

Well, Apple has fixed the whole problem with making the volume slider affect all connected sets of speakers, but I've go another problem.
My computer has 4.1 surround sound, and it's set up so the back speakers play over top of my bed. My AExpress is set up in the next room over.
I love being able to play music in both rooms at once, but when I am playing in both rooms at once, no sound comes out of my rear speakers.
I just tried playing winamp at the same time, to see if sound would come out of the back speakers, and nothing, so it's something that iTunes is doing to tell the hardware that sound should only come from the front speakers, which is beyond me why Apple would start messing with my computers hardware and turn off my computers surround sound.
My Question: Is there a way to get around this? I like being able to keep the music on in the other room while still coming into this room for music in bed.
    Thanks for the help.

    hi Mark!
hmmm. is that 4.1 or 5.1 surround sound?
i was watching 5.1 problem reports a few months ago, and there didn't seem to be a "common" cause for them. i can recall at least three different things working for people.

  • Airtunes, Wireless Speakers and Airport Express:  A Reality?

    Hi all,
I have an Airport Extreme Base Station that I use to wirelessly connect my iMac and pc to the internet and a common printer. Last week, I purchased the Airport Express (AE) to allow for me to play the music from my iTunes library (on the iMac) on some speakers in my backyard during a party. I wound up purchasing some decent computer speakers and connected them to the AE vis-a-vis a 3.5mm stero jack.
Ideally, I want to purchase some really good, wireless outdoor speakers, but I do not know how I would be able to utilize the AE in conjunction with a wireless speaker system. Again, my understanding is that a 3.5 mm stereo jack connecting the speakers to the AE is required to enable Airtunes to play via the AE.
Can anyone suggest a way that I can get Airtunes to play through the AE over wireless speakers without the stereo jack? Are there any wireless speakers that include a subwoofer that would connect to the AE via the 3.5mm stereo jack and then transmit to the speakers via bluetooth?
Thanks in advance for any help!

^^ Thanks, Duane. But how about a situation where the wireless speakers are equipped with a receiver: theoretically, could I attach the receiver to the AE via the 3.5 mm stereo jack and then place the wireless speakers anywhere I desired (within the range of the receiver, of course)?

  • Can I have wireless AND wired speakers at same time?

Currently I have my iTV connected to my flat screen which plays sound through a wired receiver connected to my stereo speakers. So right now when I watch movies or play music through my iTV (or even regular TV), it comes through the TV speakers and my stereo. This setup is in my den/tv room.
However, I want to add an ADDITIONAL wireless speaker(s) in my living room (a separate room where everyone hangs out when not watching tv). I saw some wireless speakers in Costco this weekend, but Im skeptical that i can get them to work so the wireless speakers are working AND my current wired configuration is working.
Before I go making a purchase - has anyone else done this - is it possible? Im concerned the iTV will have me select an either/or situation with the speakers - not multiple wired and wireless options.

    Creative Cloud Help /
Install both CC and CS6 apps
Can I install both CC and CS6 apps with my Creative Cloud membership?
Yes, you can download most CS6 apps from the Download Center on creative.adobe.com. Click any app icon. From the product download page, for example Illustrator, look for the heading "In this version" and click the version pop-up menu beneath it to select CC or CS6. The large blue Download button at the top of the page changes to "Download CS6".
    Note:
It is fine to have both CS6 apps and CC apps on your computer. Some users require multiple versions for different clients, etc. It's a personal preference, but in no way is a requirement to uninstall your CS6 apps in order to install CC apps.

Just select the option to make your AirPort Express join an existing network in the setup process

  • Which wireless speakers for Imac and how?

I'm buying the airport express router today. I know it can stream music wirelessly to remote speakers. My question is: what are some good speakers I can buy and how do I configure them to receive the i-tunes music in my library?
Do I need powered speakers? Thanks in advance for any suggestions or help.

Which speakers you get is subjective. There are plenty available. (I use Harmon Kardon SoundSticks II that I find pretty good for room-filling sound.) However, you do need to make sure that they are powered (or fed through an amplifier).
Plugging them into the AirPort Express should make them appear in iTunes at the bottom of the main window - look for "Computer" in a pop-up that you can change to your AirPort Express speakers.
It's pretty straightforward, but if you get stuck post back here
PS The AirPort Express handles the wireless part for you - you don't need wireless speakers.

  • Logitech Z-5450 Wireless Speakers with DTS & DD Decoder THX and Everything

to be honest logitechs new speaker set is tempting but its not 7.1!
when will creative release some new speakers like 7.1 wireless gigaworks or something, when will you respond to logitechs innovations. becuase you got the latest sound cards but all you're speakers are out of date.

    hmm... my own opinion...
Creative speakers have higher power. Anyway the wireless speakers still require a power socket so its still wired in some sense...
Ya true, lackin a decoder some where, DDTS100 is not THX certified and i think its slightly overpriced.

  • Can't connect Airport Express wirelessly to network so that AirTunes and internet are available simultaneously

I can't connect Airport Express wirelessly to network so that AirTunes and internet are available simultaneously.  My old AE allowed this but can't make the new one work that way.

In your instructions, you say to use the same encryption type as the router has set up. well, I am using the WEP 64 bit encryption and the Airport Utility does not have this...it has 40 bit. Is this a problem, or do I have to be using a the same type of encrytion ?
WEP is available in either 40 or 104-bit, but is usually "advertised" as either 64- or 128-bit respectively. For example, 64-bit WEP uses a 40 bit key (also known as WEP-40), which is concatenated with a 24-bit initialization vector (IV) to form the 64-bit RC4 traffic key. So, WEP 64 on the Linksys & 40-bit is equivalent.
What concerns me more is the loss of bandwidth performance you are experiencing when connecting the AX. When the AX is configured as a wireless client it is acting just like any other wireless devices (computer, laptop, printer, etc.) and not like another router. This should cause little or no bandwidth loss. True the more secure the wireless encryption used WPA2 vs. WEP, the more overhead is required for security, but the differences you are seeing seem excessive.
It is very possible that you may have some form of Wi-Fi interference in the immediate area that is preventing your Linksys from providing a good clean signal.
I suggest you perform a simple site survey, using utilities like the following to determine potential areas of interference, and then, try to either eliminate or significantly reduce them where possible:
    For Macs:
    o MacStumbler
    o iStumbler, or
    For PCs:
    o NetStumbler

I would think Airport Express would do the job (this is UK store site but it should be available wherever you are):
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC414B/A/airport-express
It has an audio output socket and air play will stream music from your mac to the device wirelessly.  If you want to listen to the radio will need to do so via iTunes or use a program such as Airfoil (free):
