AirTunes for Music Sleep/Wake Question

Home Sharing is on for:
-Apple TV
-iTunes
-iPhone Remote
I can stream music to my Apple TV even if TV is closed (I select the Apple TV speakers from iTunes speakers in bottom right).
The problem is I haven't used my Apple TV in a while (more than an hour) and the TV is off. The Apple TV is automatically off (the white light doesn't show) so it doesn't show on iPhone Remote or in the Speakers of iTunes, so I have to turn on the actual plasma TV screen to wake up the Apple TV so it re-appears in Home Sharing so I can play music to it, then I have to turn off my TV.
Is there a way to keep the Apple TV always on standby or awake or what the 1st gen apple tv did, which was always be detectable to the network and its devices.
Thank you.

  • Any solutions for a sleep/wake failure?

Upon opening my MacBook after it has been sleeping, it freezes and then goes into a restart.  Once restarted I get a message that a sleep/wake failure has occurred.  I see from a quick google search this is something related some 2013 models of MacBook Pros/Airs and OS Maverick 10.9.2, but I see nothing for older MacBooks.  Is this something I can fix or should it be taken in?

    Hi bates68,
For power related issues such as yours I would suggest resetting the System Management Controller as a first troubleshooting step. See the instructions in this article -

  • Hi! i just bought the iPad mini 3 today with a case that supports the automatic sleep/wake lid action but i could not find the setting for the sleep/wake lid action in my settings.

the cover i bought is from the brand called iPearl and it supports the auto sleep/wake lid action but i cant find the settings for it in my settings>general. now my iPad wont sleep when i close the lid. how do i find the option for this action in my settings on my ipad?

The setting should only appear with the cover installed. Try settings> general> IPad cover lock/unlock> on. Thanks go to Diavonex and Chris CA from this earlier thread.
The sleep/wake function would not show in general to turn it on. I have a Targus case but the function will not work. What's going on?

  • Airport Express + Airtunes for music, 3g tethering for internet?

    Hi,
I'm having problems with my ISP and considering using my 3g data plan as my primary internet solution, tethering with my iPhone.
The only reason I haven't done this until now is that I seem to have to turn airport off in order to use 3g, and that means no music through airtunes.
Is there a way I can keep the music playing through airtunes while 3g tethering is on?

    Hi,
    That worked for me:
go to system preferences/Network. on the left hand side there will be list of devices: (probably your phone), Airport, Bluetooth, Ethernet. Below that there is +,- and setting icon, go to setting and there is ""set service order".
I have my 3G internet first and Airport last - and it is working fine.
    All the best.

  • My phone is rejected for the sleep wake button replacement programme although it has a valid serial number..

As mentioned, my phone has a valid serial number for the replacement programme, but at the same time, my camera is broken.
I took my phone to an apple service centre, they accepted my phone, gave me an official receipt and told me that it will take 2 weeks. However, when I went back to the service centre to get my phone after 2 weeks, the person said my phone cannot be replaced as it has a faulty camera. Seriously? I waited for 2 weeks, and this is what I get ?
    1. Is it true that my phone cannot be replaced due to other hardware problems ?
    2. If my phone cannot be replaced, why didn't anyone from the service centre call to inform me instead of having me wait for 2 weeks and telling me that they cannot replace my phone ? Why did they even accept the phone in the first place ?

There aren't any physical damage to the phone, I didn't drop it, it happened just one day, I tried to open the camera and it's just black screen. I clicked the capture button and there's no response.. Just like that. the front camera still works.

  • No Sleep/Wake button option under Settings

I just had my ipod nano replaced, and there is no Sleep/Wake button option under Settings anywhere (In Music, etc.) I had no problems finding it and setting it up in my previous nano (need to useit for the next song option when I work out.) Did Apple go away with it?

The sleep/wake button can be used for the following functions (according to the indtruction manual pdf file you referenced) - "
Music settings let you customize how you listen to and play back music on iPod nano. To see these settings, tap the Settings icon on the Home screen and then tap Music. Here are the Music preferences you can set:
    "Sleep/Wake Button
Choose whether double-clicking the Sleep/Wake button pauses or plays the current track, or plays the next track."
I used it in my previous iPod to play next track (a great option for a runner, instead of having to use the touch screen.)
However, the new iPod I was given after I started having issues with my previous one after a few weeks of use, has no way to assign any functions to the sleep/wake button, as there is no icon/option for the sleep/wake button under Settings/Music, at least not in my new iPod.
Hence I am wondering if it is a glitch in my particular iPod, and I need to get it fixed through Apple, or, given all the issues people seem to be having with sleep/wake button getting stuck after a few months of use, they decided to just disable any fuctions for it, besides the basic sleep and wake.

  • Sent my iPhone 5 in for the sleep button replacement but it has been denied due to scratches??

As the title suggests,  i have sent my phone in for the Sleep wake button replacement program that has been offered by Apple. But after sending my phone in to Machines (Because I'm in Malaysia), they have notified me that Apple themselves have denied my phone for the replacement program due to the scratches i have on my phone. I am utterly dissapointed by the way Apple is handling this situation. Has the Scratches to do with anything with the sleep button? And it has come to my attention that the page on the Apple website containing the details about the program has said nothing about scratches making the iPhone 5 ineligible for this program and i dare say that my phone is in perfect working order.

Here are the specifics for the button replacement program in the US:  https://ssl.apple.com/support/iphone5-sleepwakebutton/
You need to check the Apple website for your country, and it is imperative that you read every word.

  • IPhone 5 sleep/wake not working

My sleep wake button on my iPhone 5 is not working about a quarter of the time I try and use it. I did some research and found that this is a fairly widespread problem and that apple is replacing devices under the 1 year warranty for faulty sleep/wake buttons. My problem is that I don't have an applestore any where close (the closest one is about 470 miles) I bought the phone from Verizon (new) in January of this year. How should I go about getting my phone replaced? Would it be wiser to go through apple some how on their site or take my phone back to my Verizon brick and mortar store? I heard of some people getting a new phone from apple and when that one arrives they return their old one in the box that he new one came in, when I looked on apples support page I didn't see that as an option, only to send my phone in to get a replacement, which is not feasible for me since my cell phone is my only method of communication at this point.

You can try restoring the device as new to verify it is a hardware issue, steps to do so provided here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414?viewlocale=en_US
If the issue persists after restoring as new, call AppleCare to get a replacement set up.
They have mail in options if you don't have an Apple store near by.

  • No Sleep/Wake Option is a major flaw

I just retired my Blackberry in favor of a new IPhone 3Gs / OS 4. Blackberry had an option to turn the phone to sleep at a predetermined time and wake the unit up at another predetermined time so that we could get at least a certain amount of uninterrupted time to sleep without the phone or e-mail alert systems going off at 3 AM. Some of us that may get emergency calls must leave the phone on, but the e-mail messages at any time of night can be really annoying.
Apple has not incorporated such a feature which means we either turn the entire device off manually or we are forced to leave it on to be awakened at any time of the late night or early morning when anyone or company decides to call, send an e-mail or message.
ATTENTION APPLE: PLEASE ADD FEATURE FOR PROGRAMMING SLEEP/WAKE PROGRAMMED TIMES IN FUTURE UPDATES OF THE OPERATING SYSTEM FOR IPHONE SO WE MAY HAVE AT LEAST A FEW HOURS OF UNINTERRUPTED SLEEP DURING THE NIGHT.

Apple doesn't read these boards--tell them here:
    http://apple.com/feedback
Although, people have been asking to schedule various Profiles like that since the original phone was released, and Apple hasn't listened yet. So if this is a dealbreaker, you should probably return the phone rather than hoping it's coming soon.
Your description of why you need this isn't really making sense, but you can turn the alert sound for Mail off manually, that may help. There is also a Silence button.

  • Sleep/Wake button stuck .Offered a replacement for £119

So today I went to the Apple store with my out of warrenty iPhone 4 with an unrepsonive/stuck sleep wake button they looked at it and within 30 seconds said that I would need a replacement phone at the cost of £119. I said I would go away and think about it and I've got some questions that I'd like to ask .
1.Do I get to keep my faulty iPhone ? (I'm assuming I won't but I might be wrong)
2.Could I pay more than £119 to upgrade to the iPhone 4S but not the full price if so how much ?
    Thanks Tom

No to both questions. It's an exchange program. It's like for like. Same model, colour, and GB that you hand in.

  • My ipod nano (6th gen)'s music stops playing sometimes when i turn the screen off (lock: sleep/wake)???!!!

    Hello yal.
My ipod nano's music stops playing when i sleep the ipod... and sometimes the screen is unresponsive. It is a little bit smasshed so yeah... could that be a factor?

Your nano is pausing playback when the screen goes dark (Either when it goes dark on its own or when you click the sleep/wake button). The reason for this is that it is not detecting your headset. You may be able to hear music, but the headset jack is not inserted enough for the nano to detect that it is there (or something is blocking the connection). Here are your three options:
Insert the headset jack harder. Most folks find that this solves their problem. If you can see ANY of the silver of the plug when it is inserted, it is NOT fully inserted. You should feel and hear a click" when it is fully inserted.
Clean out the crud in the headset port. If you have tried #1 and it just won't insert all the way, it is likely that you have crud in your headset jack. Shine a light in there. The entire inside of the jack is white, so if it looks dark down at the bottom, there is probably crud down there. You can try blowing it out or using canned air. Just understand that shoving anything else in there to clean it out will be taking your warranty into your own hands! However, I have cleaned mine out using whatever was handy and small enough to fit in there and so far so good. Your results may vary!
Take it to the Apple store. If you have really tried with 1 and 2 and it is still happening, then there might just be something up with your headset port or your headset jack. If it is the headset jack, you can look closely at that and be pretty sure if that is the problem. Try another headset to make sure. If you have worked all the way through to this point and it is still happening, it is time to take it to the Apple store.

  • HT201263 When my Ipod touch is in autolock I can only restart the device holding the sleep/wake button and home button at the same time for 10 seconds.  While in auto-lock it is using battery power and will do so until the battery is drained.  Whats wrong

When my Ipod touch is in autolock I can only restart the device holding the sleep/wake button and home button at the same time for 10 seconds.  While in auto-lock it is using battery power and will do so until the battery is drained.  Whats wrong?

    - Try a reset. Nothing is lost:
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    - Connect the iPod to your computer and try to restore via iTunes. Try placing in Recovery mode if necessary to restore.
    - If you can't turn the iPod completely off, let the batter fully drain. After charging for at lerast anhour try again
    - If still not successful time for an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • I was eligible for replacement for my iphone 5 under the sleep/wake button program. Took it to apple store and they declined saying hardware failure. I am baffled whether apple is serious about customers. They manufacture defective goods and we are stuck!

The issue started just out of warranty. Had powering on problem and did not want to spend money on repair. After that the phone crashed and refused to power on for 4 months. Now I am eligible for repair but apple store declined saying it is a hardware problem and beyond repair. I am not able to comprehend the attitude of Apple. Obviously manufacturing sub standard products is their fault and we are paying heavy price!!
The company is obviously gonna lose in the long run!!

No it is not user damAged. I would like to clarify that this piece had problems like bugs, power on and off and charging issues. It used to heat up a lot while in use. It is defective iphone to begin with. Now when iphone acknowledges there is a problem, why not replace??
If the phone was not operating as its supposed to initially you could of had the phone replaced under the 1Year Warranty. Apple is only Fixing phones with strictly "sleep/wake" button issues. i.e. if your phone has other issues other than "sleep/wake" you must fix those on your own (if out of warranty) prior to apple fixing the sleep/wake. However if your device is under warranty they will give you a new phone.

  • HT201263 What if the button on top of my ipod touch is broken. It's the sleep/wake button, and it doesn't really work anymore. HELP ME! I NEED MY MUSIC!

Ok so my ipod touch just turned off by itself..again. I got it to work again last time cause the sleep/wake button still worked...Now it doesn't. What do I do?! I don't have money to get it repaired cause we all know Apple ain't cheap to fix! Any Suggestions will help!

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
Where it says use recovery mode use this program
RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
      - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem
