AirTunes: MULTIPLE Speakers NIT WORKING

Hello all and Happy Holidays
I've posted this before but thought someone may have a solution to this.
I have an AXP installed in the living room and has an audio cable connected to my amplifier, AirTunes playing through this Remote Speakers work.
But when in iTunes switch to Multiple Speakers, to also play from my iMac, I get an error message:
An error occurred while connecting to the remote speaker "xxx". An unknown error occurred (-3256)
(OK button)
Then the Remote Speakers will get cut off, and the computer one still playing.
Any ideas anyone?
Cheers and Merry Christmas!

iFelix, you are a genius! Such a simple solution to uncheck one option...
At least this one little thing is working this Christmas Eve; My other "big woe" right now is that I keep getting publishing error messages while trying to publish to my iWeb website
But I am not going to bore you on that, here's wishing you a very Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year, cheers!

  • Airtunes Multiple Speakers option gone?

I seem to have lost the ability to play music with multiple speaker locations. I don't know if this happened after I installed the 7.0.1 update a few days ago or if it was after I had to reset my airport express yesterday.
Does anyone have any insight to this matter? I don't believe I did anything different to the Airport Express settings. This seems to have effected all the computers in the house (all running 7.0.1).
Please help! The back of the apartment has become very very quiet

Have a look at your Network>Airport or Ethernet>TCP panel in System Preferences. The IPv6 setting must be set to "automatic" for the external speakers to work via AirTunes. This is a change from iTunes 6.

  • Multiple speakers not working after recent update?

Can anyone help me with getting my multiple speakers working with Itunes and ATV2. It wont work since last update a few days ago.

I had the same problem all I did was unplug all my TV's and restated my iMac and all working fine again now hope this helps

  • Airtunes Multiple Speakers

How do you configure itunes to play on both your computer speakers and airtunes at the same time?

    1. Do a search for "multiple speakers" in this discussion area (it has been discussed more times than I care to count).
    2. Follow the advice to update your Express firmware and iTunes to the latest versions.

  • Airtunes Multiple Speakers Don't All Appear With Lion

I have a MacBook with Lion and an older iMac with Snow Leopard. I share my iTunes library and have both computers connected to Apple TV and Airport Express. Airtunes is so that I can play speakers in two different rooms at different levels ( I'm married!) With Snow Leopard when I click the little box with the triangle in the bottom right corner of iTunes it shows three options...my computer, Apple TV, and my Airport Express network, and allows me to adjust volume on both my computer and airtunes (I rarely use Apple TV for music so don't need the separate adjustment for it.) With Lion, the triangle at the bottom corner shows all three selections and has a check mark to show that I am using multiple speakers...my computer and airtunes...but when I click on it it only gives me volume controls for my computer and my Apple TV...nothing for airport express. I need to adjust the sound levels differently in each room, but can't figure out how to make two discrete adjustments.

Same here! I too have a Mini Mac running 10.7, Apple TV and an old Airport Express. If I choose to play music through the Airport Express then choose multiple speakers, it will play through all 3, but I still have no discrete volume control from the mini mac for the Airport Express.
I find it strange as when I use the Remote app on my iPhone or iPad all three volume controls are present!!! What gives indeed??

  • Multiple speakers not working - need help

I have iTunes 10.6.1 on my Macbook Pro and was using the multiple speakers feature with my 2 airport expresses very successfully until recently.  Now when I try to use multiple speakers within iTunes it recognizes those speakers but can't connect.  I've tried resetting both airport expresses but nothing.  I have all the recent upgrades and haven't done anything out of the ordinary to change things up.
I also know it isn't the airport expresses because I have another product called Airfoil that streams music wirelessly from any source to those speakers via the airport express and that works fine.  So it's definitely something specifically to do with iTunes.
One last thing, when I stream iTunes via the Airfoil I have no problems.  So again, it's definitely something to do with iTunes.
Any thoughts on what may have changed or what iTunes may be doing?

Figured it out.  Turns out the VPN access I use through work causes my connection to breakdown.  The only fix I've found is restarting my laptop if I want to use external speakers via Airport Express in iTunes.  Not sure if theirs much more I can do.  ***** but that's it.

  • AirTunes over AP Express-Multiple Speakers ERROR

    Hello everyone.
Have the latest version of iTunes and an AirPort Express.
Able to play AirTunes if the AP Express Unit is selected at the bottom of iTunes, i.e. only play through the speakers of the amplifier/av unit somewhere else.
If select Multiple Speakers and include 'This Computer', an error message appears:
An error occurred while connecting to the remote speaker "AirPort Express Name". An unknown error occurred (-3256)
    (OK button)
Then iTunes will continue to play on the computer's speakers, but the remote speakers will stay silent.
Under the multiple speakers mode, only 1 computer + 1 remote speakers
    Thanks and cheers

I have been plagued with the same problem as most here since installing Leopard. For some reason or another I could not setup AirTunes and view multiple speakers using my G5.
Now I realize that not everyone has a laptop and a desktop but here's what worked for me...
After a hard reset I created a network to airtunes using my PowerBook G4 and Airport Utility. At this point I was able to stream music to airtunes. I then changed the AirTunes settings, via the G4 to join my existing network, my linksys WRT54G router.
Like magic everything is back to normal. I can access iTunes multiple speakers on both my G5 and my G4 PowerBook just like I did when I had 10.4 loaded.
    Just my 2 cents...

  • Airtunes won't play multiple speakers on Leopard 10.5.1

Airtunes won't play multiple speakers on Leopard 10.5.1
Everything was fine until Software Update to Leopard 10.5.1 last week.
Works great on other Tiger-Macs but not on new Leopard-Macbook 2.2
While attempting itunes launch with airtunes - Message window says:
An error occurred while connecting to the remote speakers "Airtunes". Unknown error (-3256)
Will play on computer speakers, or airtunes speakers but not both.
    Anyone experiencing similar??

  • How can I switch on my Apple TV speakers when it asks "multiple speakers" I cannot switch off my computer speakers and switch on my Apple TV speakers so cannot get airplay to work?

How can I get my Apple TV airplay to work from my PC.  On the airplay symbol it says Multiple Peakers please choose but I cannot switch off my computer speakers and switch on my Apple TV speakers so cannot get airplay to work from my PC.  Everything is OK when using my Ipod touch.

Don't use Multiple Speakers option and just choose the AppleTV
What are you trying to Airplay? If it's iTunes content it's simpler to 'pull' the stream from the Computers icson on AppleTV by selecting the libarry and media.
If you are attempting to Airplay the desktop you can't.

  • Can't Select Multiple speakers for AirTunes

I have had a problem for the past few days now where i can't select to use multiple speakers when using AirTunes.
This has never happened before, and was fine after the update to iTunes 7.
Is there something i need to change / select in my AirPort preferences to make multiple speakers enabled?

Do you have the latest Firmware of the AirPort Express V6.3?
There could be a problem with older versions of the firmware and the new iTunes 7. Then I would also update iTunes to the newest version 7.0.1.

  • New Version Of iTunes Wont let me use "multiple speakers" thru airtunes...

The New Version Of iTunes Wont let me use "multiple speakers" thru airtunes with airport express.
I have used airport express to play music while simultaneously playing it thru my computer speakers, but the new version of iTunes wont let me select "Multiple Speakers" from the menu at the bottom of the window

There doesn't seem to be a link to this firmware update, can you repost it? I'm having the same problem.
    Thanks

  • Airtunes "skips" during "multiple speakers" mode...

The problem is when I play in the new "multiple speakers" mode my local PC skips, and remote signal plays fine.
If I select local by itself, my PC plays fine, or if I select remote by itself, it also plays fine. No other issues with Itunes, ever! Just in this mode. And also, when I use my mac (macmini), in "multiple speaker" mode it works fine on both local, local/remote, and remote, so I'm guessing this is just a PC issue.
Ive installed the latest firmware for Airport basestation, Airport express, and my audio card on the PC. I'm using the latest Itunes (6.04.2).
Ive read post and installed the latest directx, and selected safe mode for quicktime. But still nothing has resolved it.
Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks! -Chris

I have this issue as well with my PC.
Here is what i have ascertained. i have 3 airport expresses (let's call them A, B and C) and then my local pc:
    - each speaker (A, B, C) individually works remotely.
    - each works with "local pc" when 2 speakers are selected (A+local, B+local or C+local).
    - one set of 2 together works okay, but not great (A+C).
    - the other sets of 2 are terrible (B+C, A+B)
    - forget about playing all three sets of speakers at the same time (ABC) - it doesn't even play for 15 seconds before breaking up.
Speaker A and C definitely have the clearest path to the router, so i may try to move the router close to A and B and see if C becomes a real problem or not... just trying to hone in on the issue - but regardless it seems like multiple sets of speakers overwhelm the network.
is more netowrk power the answer? or is it something more fundamental (i.e., today's wireless networks should handle the traffic).

  • Brand new macbook pro - iTunes does not recognize multiple speakers, my older macs work correctly

New macbook pro with iTunes 10.5.2.  OS 10.7.2    Setting up iTunes.
    Two speakers on Airport devices.
Switch at bottom right shows all of the speakers above the line, and "multiple speakers" below the line.  The two speakers on the airport devices are #3 and #4 on the list above the line.  (i.e. ITunes is aware that these airport speakers exist).
I can click on single airport speakers above the line, and ITunes connects.
When I click on "multiple speakers", I get "computer" and the first listing which is a printer hooked up on an airport express link.  Also get the separate volume controls etc.  The third and fourth entries on the list (i.e. the airport speakers) are not displayed on the multiple speakers list.
So I can connect to one speaker at a time, e.g. the computer, or any other speaker, but I cannot connect to multiple speakers.
I have two other macs and have never had this problem with hooking up to the multiple speakers.
    Thanks for any help.

Same here - the problem is - it was working for a few days after I've upgraded iTunes to version 10, and then yesterday - I've rent the movie from Apple Store and once downloaded with iTunes - I wanted to transfer it to my ATV - however - my link to ATV suddently disappeared. What a piece of Crap. I can't describe my frustration - apple products aren't cheap and they always come with some kind of problem - what the **** is going on - it's not just the design people are looking for but also functional products.
Yesterday I've tried to turn of ATV, remove link from iTunes, start ATV make new connection to iTunes, start up iTunes - ATV shows up, code put in and at this stage I thought it finally works - but hey - forget it - I'm trying to put the purchased rental onto ATV and I get an alert saying that my firewall (which I have none) is stopping me from syncing. I then go to the support page which explains how to deal with it - but on some very old version of the system - my system (Snow Leopard) doesn't have those options any more. So as far I I'm concerned I'm screwed unless they fix the problem with their software.
If you guys know of any possible solution to this problem (and I did read many forum topics already - none of which works) - then please let me know.

  • Airtunes remote speakers no longer work and a weird error

    Hi,
The other day after upgrading to iTunes 7.6 the ability for me to select my remote speakers in iTunes stopped functioning. The option has always worked for me before this, and yes, I have the "look for remote speakers" option checked in the iTunes preferences. Now, the little drop down to select speakers has vanished on my desktop.
The option still works with my laptop using iTunes 7.4. What gives?
Also, when I check or uncheck the box to tell iTunes to look for remote speakers on my desktop (iTunes 7.6) I get the following error:
"An error occurred while updating the default player for audio file types. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation."
I have seen other posts for both of these issues, but NO solutions. Uninstalling iTunes did not work. Rolling back to 7.5 did not work (and now 7.5 won't read my .itl file so my library is lost at the moment).
Anyone have any ideas? I can find many people asking the same questions, but no answers anywhere in my searches here and in Google.
    Thanks.

The fix for these problems was twofold.
First, uninstall iTunes, Quicktime, and Apple updater. Delete all folders in C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data and C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Local Settings\Application Data related to apple or itunes. Search through the registry for all keys and values related to iTunes.
Reinstall iTunes. That got rid of the error messages I was having.
To get the speakers to work again, I took my PC out of the DMZ on my router. Seems that if it's not behind the firewall/NAT, it won't pass the AirTunes traffic.

  • Multiple speakers won't work at the same time

I have the remote speakers button at the bottom of the iTunes window, and can select My Computer and the Stereo individually, but only the Stereo will play when I try to play both at once.
    Windows XP Pro, SP2
No firewall on the computer, just the router connected to the Internet
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Jim

I've developed a similar problem with this. I used to use multiple speakers with my AX fine when connected to my digital stereo input using an optical cable. Now I've moved things round and plugged my computer direct into this stereo, using the AX with another analogue one in a different room. It worked to start with, then got flaky and now doesn't work at all. Again, works fine when using just the AX, but not with multiple speakers. I'm wondering if this is a reception thing, except that on its own the AX streams flawlessly. Firewall on or off makes no difference. And also the red light of the optical input comes on when it's on multiple speakers. I wonder whether this is still defaulting to just sending the optical signal somehow. Wondering about resetting the firmware on the AX.
Will let you know if I get any progress.
