AirTunes Now Playing info

Well, I asked for AirTunes functionality when the ATV first came out - Apple must have listened to me:-)
Just been experimenting with this and once I realised that an iTunes update seems to have turned off the pref to search for AirTunes connected spakers and turned it on again, the ATV was then visible in the list of AirTunes destinations and soon I was playing music into the room that previously had an Airport Express for this purpose.
So far so good.
It then took a little while to fugure out what the ATV would display while this is going on. Menus are still fully accessible, but it will quickly revert to the 'Now Playing' screen after a short period of inactivity.
Even further, even better.
But now I hit the problem. The Now Playing screen shows no artwork, the Track is Untitled, Unknown Album, Unknown Artist and the progress bar is static, fixed at the beginning. IOW, it is getting NO info from the incoming data stream.
Others have reported this, with various suggestions being put forward:-
"It only shows information if the track is synced locally on to the ATV's hard drive"
Seems unlikely. Relatively simple to include the appropriate data when sending it from the Mac and I would have thought that if the track is not local, why would the ATV even bother to show such a screen when it has no data to fill it.
"Do a full reset to factory condition, that should fix it"
Seems a bit harsh as that would involve the whole upgrade to V2 again and I only did that this morning.
Maybe not a common problem, but mine is not an isolated instance. Has anyone any information on why the track info is NOT displayed and the Now Playing screen is empty?

It is happening to us from the mac that is not synced. The mac that is synced seems to be fine.
When the mac that is synced uses airtunes to play music from the mac that is not synced (shared library, I know twisted but someone has to try it heheh) then sometimes it fails, in various ways:
* All data but no album
* No data
* All data fine

ITunes 9.2 not displaying "Now Playing" Song Info

I recently upgraded my iTunes to 9.2 and have discovered that instead of showing the song, artist and album information when playing music, it instead shows lines that show the song's levels in the top window. Any idea how to change this back to showing song information - I've tried everything I can think of but can't see an option to switch the display back.

In that off-white "Play Zone" (I guess theres no real technical term for it), check to the left of the EQ Visualizer you are seeing, you should see a little circle with a play icon in it. Click that until you get to the song information again. You probably just accidentally clicked it without knowing it.
For reference, that button cycles between what you view in that play area. So for example, this includes now playing info, EQ levels, downloading item progress, etc.

ITunes 11.1.2 Now Playing Window Hides, Not Visible

In iTunes 11.1.2 (the latest upgraded version to date) when I have iTunes open on my Mac (2012 Mac Mini) the 'now playing' window in grey at the top shows nothing while a song is playing. When I move my cursor to the 'dock area' below on my desktop the now playing info suddenly appears at the top, showing the song playing, shuffle icon, etc. As soon as my mouse leaves the dock area this now playing area becomes grey again (with the song still playing.) I've restarted my computer and iTunes a few times, etc. What's the problem?!

In addition to what you said: if you press Command L, the playing song will be selected.
I only get this problem when I'm playing the song from an apple script.

Ipod won't display song info under "Now Playing"

I searched for this, but couldn't find an answer. My 60GB IPOD works fine, plays fine and displays info (and movies, photos, etc.) correctly in all areas except the "Now Playing" screen, at which point it won't display any info (song title, artist, album art, etc.)
Any thoughts?

Scrolling of Track Info in the "Now Playing" View

In the Now Playing view, song title scrolls by when longer than the screen width. However, artist doesn't. Is there a way (setting) to make it scroll? Many of my tracks have multiple artists and therefore longer than the screen width.

Slideshow for "Now Playing" (suggestion for multiple artwork in one song)

As some may know, you can put more than one album art (picture) in a song. When it's done, the "Now Playing" window, which usually showcases the artwork of the song playing, would have a small right/left arrow beside it. When pressed, you switch to a new artwork.
However with the recent updates on iTunes, that arrow button's disappeared. Now it's as pointless as ever to put multiple pictures. My purpose with this feature is to put album covers and the single artwork together, only if they are the first tracks of whichever album. (Yes, I like to stare at the album covers while listening to music).
IDEA - Why not have the "Now playing" window fade between pictures like a slideshow? So for example, Kelly Clarkson's "Stronger" album's 1st track "Mr. Know It All", a single that bears its own artwork. Putting the album and single cover in the song while playing, they'd alternate between pictures every 5 seconds.
I just think that if you can put more than one picture in a song, might as well make use of it. There are a lot of albums that have singles as track no.1. Some have a great single artwork but can't be shown because it needs the album cover. This would make a great compromise. It might even be more neat to put a real life picture of you or someone or a place you know because the song reminds you of .
What do you guys think?

I agree - and was glad to see this post and intend to search for more. I vaguely recall some kind of multimedia artwork to replace and extend the idea of the printed album cover being talked about. Was that a standalone package one bought?
Animating covers and album info - some albums I have eg one I just put in itunes - has 87 pages of info - and one track is 70 minutes long. I would like to read that info as it plays (without starting up several other programmes and searching for the docs!)
It is a multimedia environment so why not have an interactive 'now playing' window that plays related videos - pdfs - as well as stills or EVEN! that can actively search (say google images? or tagged info from wherever) for related pictorial content or other info. I have tried dragging pdfs into the artwork box but it wants the pdfs pages made into jpgs first and separated - altho they can ALL be added at once.
Maybe theres already a script to do this stuff?
Sorry to over extend that idea! But really its quite stupid at present not even to be able to see the other stuff one has put in the artwork box - and it even took a while to guess it could be used (as simple as drag and drop..)

How do I select to simultaneously stream (airtune) and play on my computer?

Hi everyone. So I keep reading that as of last January '06 (6.0.2) iTunes will let you stream to remote speakers and play the same song simultaneously on the computer's speakers. How do I do this?!? I have searched everything and everywhere (these forums, macosxhints, the usenet forums) for over 30 mins now and no one mentions "how" to do it, just that it can be done. That is, once everything is setup, is there a mystery screen that says "click here for both at once"? Am I supposed to right click on anything in particular?
iTunes only lets me select one at a time - on the bottom right of itunes, I have the box that lets me choose my remote speakers ("livingroomstereo") or my computer speakers ("computer"). But again, it only lets me click on one, not both...
I have: iMac G4, iTunes 7.0.2. My airport express is at v6.2 firmware. I use a linksys wrt54g as my base, and the airport express works perfectly as a client.
What is the mystery! I feel that something is missing since no one describe how to select multiple ones at once so that it must be totally obvious. And that leads me to beleive that I am not "missing" it, it just isn't there....

Ipod Classic, no Now Playing for videos?

Is this only on my classic, or am I the only one who is bothered by this? When I pause a video on my ipod to go through a playlist or back to the main menu, there isn't a 'now playing' option to resume the video i was watching. Also If I pause the video for too long and the ipod shuts off I can't resume the video when I turn it back on. The previous generation wasn't like this, is it just the Classic I own? It's making it a bit harder to watch movies on the go, if I can't turn off and on my ipod without losing my place in a movie. It's like reading a book without a book mark.

select Get Info

Cover Flow showing wrong artwork, Now Playing showing right!

I am going to lose my mind if I don't get this figured out.
I have several files in my iTunes that show the wrong artwork in the Cover Flow. They show the correct artwork in Now Playing, as well as when I go to Get Info. The correct artwork is there, and it is the only artwork there (i.e., there aren't two different images there).
What in the world am I doing wrong, and how can I fix this? I thought at one point it had something to do with marking something as part of a compilation, but I've unmarked anything that was marked as such but it didn't help...

At some level iTunes sorts & groups tracks on the basis of a bunch of fields, i.e. track no. disc no. album, artist, album artist, sort album, sort artist, sort album artist & the compilation flag. (I think that's all of them.) If you have a bunch of tracks with no album name and marked as a compilation it's probably a good bet to assume they are all part of the same album. In cover flow iTunes only shows one item of art for each album hence the effect you see.
To use the old maxim, +it's not a fault, it's a feature+.

Help! Screen won't display title, artist etc only Now Playing.

Hope you can help. I've only had my nano for a few days and it was great to start with, but when I'm playing music the screen will only display Now Playing and the album cover and the centre button does not do anything at all. Any suggestions?

Try re-setting it first:
1) Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
2) Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

How do you customizing the "Now Playing" view screen?

I am an educated classical musician, so many of the tags people write on their music files seem stupid to me. For example, the term "artist" has many connotations, most of which people use incorrectly. Furthermore, "song" indicates music with lyrics and very few tracks on my iPod have lyrics. With this in mind, the "composer" tag has the most important information for me when I listen to music.
Is there any way to replace the "artist" with "composer" on the Now Playing menu on my iPod?

Well, you need to remember a couple of things. One, these tags aren't an Apple or iTunes thing; they're a standard. Two, the tagging scheme you're proposing would be as useless to most of the people who use iTunes as the current one is to you.
I'm going to make another work around suggestion that you can ingore. Have you considered putting the information you require in the lyrics tag? It won't help with sorting but you'd still have the info accessible on your iPod. After all, if the music you're listening to isn't "songs" (though you never did answer my question about Mendelssohn), then the lyrics tag is just going to waste. It's just a text field and you can put anything you want in it.

Art displayed in library but not 'Now Playing' window

This is odd.
It's not the case with all the albums that I've got but in the view in iTunes where you can scroll through album artwork the images appear, but for some of them they don't appear in the 'Now playing' window.
I can't even find where the images that I can see are stored. When I do a Get-Info on the album/song there is no artwork in the info pane, but it's there in iTunes, just not in all places.
I've sourced most of artwork through Widget Foundry's Amazon Album Art widget, although a signifant number of the images where dragged and dropped from Google Images.
Any clues?

I think new artwork goes here if downloaded by iTunes because if CoverFlow had to scan through all your tracks to find the embedded artwork it would slow it down too much.

Trouble with viewing "Now Playing"

My 30GB Video iPod was working fine until a few weeks ago when the Now Playing screen started only displaying album artwork. It does everything else fine, plays games and lists songs, but Now Playing just doesn't work and it's driving me crazy because I don't like to use shuffle mode this way.
I've tried reseting all settings, all my software is up to date, and everything else is working fine. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

ITunes 11.1.2 "Now Playing" bar stuck on Apple logo

So as the title stats above, whenever I choose a song to play on my iTunes (11.1.2), it wont show up on the "Now Playing" bar in the middle between the "Skip buttons/Volume" and "Search". I also noticed a glitch, if you could call it that. When I slide fours fingers up on my track pad to reveal other apps open, iTunes shows up with the bar actually displaying track info, how long the track is, etc. But when I choose to switch to iTunes the Apple logo just appears and theres no way to fix it. I tried the up and down button to reveal more but nothing shows up either. Here look:

Yeah, the same thing is happening to me when I upgraded, and I'd really like to have the song title and length/how much is left up in that title bar.
However, I did out that if you make it full screen, you'll notice in the left side of the title bar is the album/CD cover. If you click on that a small, seperate square pops up and if you then exit full screen, it stays on the desktop. When the next song comes up, it changes. If you scroll over it, then controls that use to be in teh title bar show.
*Shrug*
I'd prefer the old way, but maybe it's just a matter of the human adapting to the new software.

IPod won't respond, stuck on "now playing"

As stated in the title, my ipod is frozen on the "now playing" screen. The iPod will not reset. Toggling the hold switch has no effect. Plugging the ipod into the wall has no effect (does not switch to the charging screen). My computer (PC) does not read the iPod. I tried downloading the iPod updater and doing that, but of course my computer does not recognize my iPod.
Any ideas?

Matthew, I had a similar problem last night. Then this morning I just fiddled with it, going from one screen to another and it was fine again. Bizarre...
So you've tried to reset it? Toggle hold switch on and then off again, followed by holding down simultaneously Menu button + select button for about 6 seconds until screen goes off, then Apple logo appears.
I was suggested by a participant to this forum (King Cole) to restore the iPod. Try that if all fails:
