Airtunes remote speakers not visible in iTunes

I had this actually working flawlessly for about a year now. Two Airtunes speakers in Living and Dining room, controlled wirelessly through iTunes on my WinXP laptop.
And two more laptops, one Win2000, one OSX working fine too with it.
So suddenly, and I'm not sure if this was due to a Windows Update or an iTunes update or something else, that WinXP laptop doesn't show the remote speaker in iTunes anymore. I can still ping the Airport base stations but don't see them in iTunes anymore.
The other two computers are still connecting fine to them.
Turned of the Windows firewall, just to check, still same issue.
Uninstalled iTunes completely, restarted, reinstalled, same thing.
I just don't have any ideas what to try.
Anyone has an idea please?

I may be having a similar problem. My remote speakers work great on one PC, but not another. On the other, when I connect to the remote speakers and click play on an mp3, iTunes crashes with a "Sorry, but iTunes has to close". The error signature doesn't make sense to me:
AppName: itunes.exe AppVer: 7.5.0.20 ModName: itunes.exe
ModVer: 7.5.0.20 Offset: 002d0671
This is my work laptop and I have no ability to change the firewall settings. Could that be it, or is firewall unrelated to a complete iTunes crash? Thanks for any input.

Suddenly Airtunes Remote Speakers Not Available

I've been using Airtunes for quite a long time with a single problem. Now suddenly I was playing music using iTunes v7.1.1 and the playback stopped. Even so I was able to get to web pages and send and receive email. I noticed that my remote speakers showed at the bottom right of the iTunes window but they were italicized- which means they are unavailable. I then tried connecting to my base station with a wireless connection and it came back. Went back to my wired connection and no remote speakers! OK, so I thought it was the router that the base station and my Mac is connected to so I power-cycled the router and I got the remote speakers back. Started playing music again then a while later (a couple of hours) same thing happened. Power-Cycling the router always brought it back but I thought my router might be failing so I installed a brand new one. I was surprised when later iTunes stopped playing to my remote speakers again. Although I had no need before, I mapped UDP port 5353 to my Airport Express and started playing music. After a while the same thing happened- AirTunes just stopped playing. Power-cycling the router always brings it back, temporarily. So it wasn't the port, and it can't be the router. Anyone have an idea what may be going on? I've see that PC users are having this issue and turning off Bonjour fixes it for them, but I'm using a Mac (PPC) running OS 10.4.9. I did try turning off IPv6 but that didn't help- turned it back on. I'm now thinking it's iTunes 7.1.1. I'll try downgrading to an earlier version to see if that resolves the issue. Anyone have any other ideas?

Have you changed or upgraded your anti-virus recently? I have a PowerBookPro and a Dell XP PC on the same wireless network, Netgear main modem/router with 3 Airport Expresses each connected to amps/speakers. Suddenly recently the Mac could still see remote speakers via itunes, but the PC could not.
Turned out it was my upgraded antivirus, upgraded from eset nod32 to eset smart security on default settings. The default eset personal firewall settings are "automatic mode" where the sofware monitors all network traffic and imposes its own rules. I changed this to "interactive mode" where any traffic came up with a dialogue box to ask my permission.
Lo and behold, itunes had been asking permission to acces the airports, but been auto-denied. New setting allowed me to give permission and sure enough the speakers now appear in itunes.
Lesson: try fiddling around with settings of anti-virus monitoring software: it worked for me.

Airtunes remote speakers no longer work and a weird error

The other day after upgrading to iTunes 7.6 the ability for me to select my remote speakers in iTunes stopped functioning. The option has always worked for me before this, and yes, I have the "look for remote speakers" option checked in the iTunes preferences. Now, the little drop down to select speakers has vanished on my desktop.
The option still works with my laptop using iTunes 7.4. What gives?
Also, when I check or uncheck the box to tell iTunes to look for remote speakers on my desktop (iTunes 7.6) I get the following error:
"An error occurred while updating the default player for audio file types. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation."
I have seen other posts for both of these issues, but NO solutions. Uninstalling iTunes did not work. Rolling back to 7.5 did not work (and now 7.5 won't read my .itl file so my library is lost at the moment).
Anyone have any ideas? I can find many people asking the same questions, but no answers anywhere in my searches here and in Google.

The fix for these problems was twofold.
First, uninstall iTunes, Quicktime, and Apple updater. Delete all folders in C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data and C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Local Settings\Application Data related to apple or itunes. Search through the registry for all keys and values related to iTunes.
Reinstall iTunes. That got rid of the error messages I was having.
To get the speakers to work again, I took my PC out of the DMZ on my router. Seems that if it's not behind the firewall/NAT, it won't pass the AirTunes traffic.

Remote could not find my itunes library

I have try it pairing the remote app with itunes library but without succes i have delete the app few times and start over turning on home sharing in all my devices apple tv itunes and my iphone 4s but still REMOTE could not find the itunes library what else i need to do any help?

I am taking a complete guess on this one, as I am fairly new'ish to OS X.
Firewall switched on at the imac? Would that cause this issue?

"podcasts" is not visible in iTunes after software update

iTunes no longer shows "podcasts" as a category. I have several active subscriptions--they seem to have disappeared. All of the other usual categories (e.g., music, TV shows) are still there. This occurred immediately after I downloaded today's iTunes upgrade. I have tried downloading more podcasts. That happens fine--but they are not visible from iTunes after the download.

I can re-check the "podcasts" box in the Windows version. It's not grayed out. But there doesn't seem to be any way to save my changes. Didn't the "preferences" dialog box used to have a "save changes" button at the bottom?

HELP, Ipod nano 4 GB v 1.2 not visible in itunes v7.02.16

I did the update for Itunes v7.02.16 and after this my ipod nano 4 GB firmware v1.2 was not visible in itunes but in de windows explorer it was shown. I was more then a hour on the phone with a support guy, with the result (his opinion) that it was a hardware problem. His advice was updating the usb driver. I did, but the problems was not solved. I did the same install on 2 other computer and all gave the same problems, I've tried all the solutions on the faq etc, the 5 R's etc.
A strange thing is that de diagnostic in Itunes tells me all the information about the connectec ipod, it shows the serial nummer. name, busspeed, firmware etc.
WHO can help, my mind is empty.

I am having a similar problem. However, I have not updated my USB drive. How did you do that?
For the support guy (or gal)...I have an iPod nano 2 GB and when I plug it into my USB port (I have 2 ports and have tried both) iTunes opens but doesn't recognize that my iPod is connected. When I run iPod diagnostics through iTunes it says iPod Connection Status-Failed, even though it is connected. I cannot sync my iPod via iTunes. I have tried numerous troubleshooters on the apple.com support website without any success (reinstalling iTunes, etc.) I took it to an Apple store this weekend and when they hooked my iPod up with my cable, their Mac recognized my iPod. If anyone can help me with this I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Gen2 ATV not visible in ITUNES 10.1.54, any others?

Cable-connected.
Have opened port 3689TCP and 5353UDP in NETGEAR FIREWALL.
I can see ATV in the firewall, it gets syncronized, it has an IP,
but not visible in ITUNES, Weird.
I can see my library in ATV etc..my computer..
The ICON ATV in ITUNES was there when I had Gen 1.
HAve done a total factory reset, entered all info and such, started homelibrary etc.

ATV2 won't show up on your library list as it does not store any media on the internal storage other than buffering. Where as the ATV1 had a hard drive with media stored on it would appear in the pane as shared media.

Error -50 is a timeout error. Apple's advice on how to resolve this is:
Perform USB isolation troubleshooting, including trying a different USB port directly on the computer. See the advanced steps below for USB troubleshooting.
Put a USB 2.0 hub between the device and the computer.
Try a different USB 30-pin dock-connector cable.
Eliminate third-party security software conflicts.
There may be third-party software installed that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting one or more TcpWindowSize entries into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause this error. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet-size modification for assistance. Or, follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to reset the packet size back to the default for Windows.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, bypassing any routers, hubs, or switches. You may need to restart your computer and modem to get online.
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.

According to your profile you are running v10.6.3. Click your Apple menu  / Software Update. That will update your system to v10.6.5.
Then repair permissions. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
Now restart the iPad.
Now try syncing the iPad with your Mac. If that didn't help, click here
Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X for further instructions.

Elements 11 albums not visible in iTunes for synching

I've recently upgraded from Elements 8 to 11. New albums created in organiser 11 are not visible in iTunes for synching to my iPod. All of the albums created in Elements 8 are still visible. Is this a bug or is there something I need to do to make the new albums visible?

Yes I’m sure Adobe think it’s a third party problem and probably have little interest in synching with Apple devices. It’s a bit disssapointing and whilst Mac users can sync with iPhoto or Aperture, the majority of users will be using Windows and will wish to sync their PSE11 albums. Hopefully Apple & Adobe will talk to each other.
There is a work around but it involves first creating the album in PSE10 (or your earlier version) and importing it into PSE11. It will then be recognized in iTunes when you connect your device and click on the Photos tab. Let me know if you want instructions.

However, the other way around attached to my TV by HDMI and wireless conected to my mac book pro it can play movies and music from itunes
Version Itunes 10.5.2
Version Apple TV2 4.4.4.

The only place it should appear is in the drop down AirPlay section in the lower right of iTunes.

IPhone 5 is not visible in iTunes

I have an iPhone 5 and a MacBook Pro. Operating system is OS X 10.8.3. All software updates have been done. My iPhone is not visible in iTunes. Computer and phone have plenty of memory left. USB connection is secure and normal. I have gone through all the Apple support suggestions and nothing has helped. HELP!

I have the same issue, with my brand new iphone 5s, and my 4 month old dell desktop. The computer recognizes the iphone when i plug in the usb, but itunes will not. I dont know what to do.

Iphoto library not visible for itunes home sharing

Hello, I have an issue where my iPhoto library is not visible in iTunes Photo Sharing Preferences. I wish to have my iPhoto library (Aperture Library) available on my Apple TV. I have switched on Home Sharing. When I go to iTunes/File/Home Sharing/ then wish to select which photos to share, iPhoto is not listed in the preference pane. The only available option is my Pictures folder.
My library is on an external hard drive. When I try to point to it manually, the library is greyed out.
Any ideas? I have been using Home Sharing for a long time and have not had this before. I have latest version of iTunes and iPhoto. My library is an Aperture library. The external hard drive is Mac OS Extended format. There should be no issues there. I have done a check disk and a repair permissions also.

Does your joint Aperture/iPhoto library show in the Finder as "Kind Aperture Library"?
Then set your Photo Sharing to share from Aperture and not from iPhoto.
When I try to sync or share iPhoto libraries from iTunes, it will look for libraries "Kind iPhoto" and not sync with an Aperture library, even if it is the current iPhoto library.
