AirTunes - Very faint sound/poor sound

I bought an Airport Express today. Got it setup fairly easily. The only problem is that the sound quality coming from the speakers is very poor. I have to turn up my stereo all the way to get a descent sound out of it. I tried to plug the Airport Express up directly to some portable self-powered speakers but go the same result. Any suggestions on what could cause this? I feel the setup is correct. I didn't buy the Apple "Monster" cables, I'm using some regular RCA ones I got from Best Buy. Could this be the problem?
BTW - I know the setup is correct because I'm using Directv through the ethernet and it's working well. For those with Directv, this is a great option to us the On Demand features.

The issue with Wi-Fi interference is more one about the quality of signal between the audio source and the AX as you're relying on AirTunes to stream the audio content wirelessly. If there is some sort of Wi-Fi interference present in the area between these, then it is possible that the signal has been degraded (due to noise) such that the quality of the audio stream would be affected ... and maybe why you are getting such poor performance.

  • I get a very faint sound connecting airport with stereo (Yamaha rx-v367).  The basic tune is discernable, but not the lyrics.

Do i not have the right cable?  Is a setting wrong, or is the Airport going bad?

Temporarily, plug a pair of headphones directly into the AirPort Express
    Sound OK on both channels?
If yes, then you have a cable problem or connection problem....assuming the Yamaha receiver is functioning correctly otherwise.

  • FAINT sound from Side Speak

Hi! again, can someone help me configuring X-Fi Fatality & T7900 so that I have proper sound output from all 8 channels. Have Windvd 7. A very faint sound comes out from Side Speakers. When I test speakers, they seem GOOD with proper vol output through all channels. THX console also shows proper output of sound from all speakers. MP3 plays well, but When I play any DVD there is hardly any sound from side speakers. Tried every thing. Guess I am making a mistake in configuring setup. I tried using the below advise but still no go. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------2) Decode the AC3/DTS with your Sound Blaster.?You should choose this option if?you don't have an external decoder. In the DVD software, select 'SPDIF' as the audio output method and make sure that 'SPDIF Pass-through' in the souncard options is?off. The DVD software will now pass the compressed audio to your soundcard, which will then decode the data. The soundcard will output the 6 channels using the?analogue connections (or digital DIN, more on this later). If you try?to use a digital optical/coax connection to your speakers, you will only hear faint sounds from the front left/right speakers.---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - X-Fi Fatality & Inspire T7900WinDVD 7WinXP Pro.?[color="#ff0000"]Please Guide

  • Only faint sound from X-FI extreme gamer in some speak

I am only getting very faint sound from my front Center speaker and from my back left and right speakers. I have to turn up my speaker volume very high to hear anything at all and what I do hear is very pour quality. I have my system in dual boot with vista and XP. I am only having this problem in XP, in vista the audio is fine. I've checked all the volume controls in windows and the creative software. I've also checked the connections. If I am getting some sound from my front center and from my back left and right the connections have to be hooked up correctly.
I'm going to try downloading the drivers and installing them from there.

This was a clean install of XP Pro x64 and a new driver installation. One hour ago I got a wild hair and removed the X-Fi from Device Manager, disconnected my router, then rebooted. I ran the beta-driver installation program and was notified there was still an old Sound Blaster driver installed. It removed the driver and prompted me to reboot before installing the new drivers. As far as I can tell everything is working so far...no blue screens and sound is fine in BF2. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

  • Overwhelming static noise and a very faint music.

Hi-Using my nano for the first time- and all I hear is STATIC noise and very faint sound of the music.  I tried the ear plugs that came with it as well as my new V-Moda remix 45 plugs.  My nano has never been wet and I tried the music I downloaded from I-Tunes as well as from a CD.  Makes no difference-  Thanks

Had to get a refund as it was a faulty Nano

  • IPhone earbud microphone/clicker: Beep sound when ending call is VERY faint

I sometimes use the iPhone earbuds to make calls. Ever since the release of iPhone software version 2.2, the beep sound that one hears when hanging up a call using the microphone/clicker is VERY faint. Now when I use the headset to make calls, I can barely even hear the beep when I end a call. I checked with another friend of mine who also uses his earbuds to make calls and he noticed the same thing.
Has anyone else noticed this and does anyone know of a solution? I tried blowing out any lint that may have accumulated in the earphone jack, but this did nothing to improve the situation.

Yes! Mine does it too,I miss the louder beep,on top of it I have to use head phones because Bluetooth headsets don't work anymore since 2.2,I can hear others but they don't hear me.

    Hi,
Tap the iPod icon in the Dock. Then tap the Airplay icon just to the right of the volume slider.
Make sure the iPad speakers are selected, not your wireless.

  • New app. Faint sound. What to do.

I downloaded a new app. It does not produce any sound unless volume is raised to the max and then the sound is still very Faint. Other sounds from apps and key
    board are fine.

    Hey richard from sanford,
Thanks for the follow up. Based on the additional information you have provided, the next step will be to isolate the issue further by backing up and restoring your device as new. If the issue persists after doing so please contact Apple support for additional assistance:

  • Very low sound volume on Portege R500

The sound volume on my R500 (R500-11c to be exact) is ridiculously low. Only with volume maxed out (100) and using headphones do I hear anything at all, and even then it's way too low to be useful. I can just make out the test sounds in the left and then right earphone when using the test sound found at Control Panel -> Sound -> Speakers (there are no Headphones to be selected) -> Properties -> Advanced -> Test. Unplugging the headphones I hear nothing from the speakers, due to the (very low) sounds made by the fan and HDD. Playing music (with headphones) I can just make out that sounds are being produced, but I can't even make out what is playing.
I've tested the things mentioned in the "Satellite 5105-S901 Sound is very low (even on max volume) using supplied Toshiba driver" thread with no success (including Loudness Equalization).
I'm running Vista Business 32bit, and have tried the driver_audio_realtek26117B.exe, driver_audio_realtek_TC00157600B.exe, and Vista_Win7_R243_x86.exe driver files, and also used the util_mute_off_25847B.exe utility.
Enabling mute makes the already faint sounds go completely silent, so I don't think it's a mute issue.
Jack detection does work, I can see that in the Realtek HD Audio Manager program. Using that program's sound test (Speaker Configuration) I have to go to a completely silent room, and even then I only hear something in the right earphone. (I think; it's so darn low I could be imagining I hear it.)
Decreasing the sound volume slider from 100 does make the almost inaudible sound even harder to even notice, and at around 45 it is no longer audible even in a quiet room with headphones.
So it seems that I somehow need to reset the audio chip to "normal" level. Or it is broken and can't output anything more audible.
Does anyone have any ideas what I can try next? I can boot to XP or Linux if anyone has any ideas on how to get sound there, just to get started. (They're silent as well, I haven't done as extensive testing under those as under Vista.)

    Hello, and thanks for answering.
Yes, I have tried increasing the volume in control panel -> Realtek HD audio manager. No success.
I have used a bunch of different drivers, both from toshiba's website and realtek's.
Recently did a fresh XP install on another hard drive (don't have Vista install media), tried both 5.10.0.5869 and 5.10.0.6066 drivers (5.10.0.6066 is from march 13, 2010), sound still as low no matter what I do.
Did the really desperate thing: bought a new (used) sound module on ebay ("Toshiba Portege R500 (PPR50E-00L048EN) USB jack" on ebay.co.uk), but it has the same problem as the original one.
A hardware problem... well maybe, I was thinking perhaps the sound module doesn't get enough power from the motherboard, but since there is some sound (although very low), the USB jack on the module works, the headphone/mic jack detection works, and the diagnostics found in the Control Panel all say that the device is working OK, I don't think it's a hardware problem.
I'm guessing there is a problem with the drivers initializing the sound to a ridiculously low setting, and increasing the volume level to 100 makes it go up to a level equal to perhaps 2 in a regular system. That should be solved by a fresh install, but it isn't.
Perhaps the BIOS messes up the sound? But re-flashing the BIOS doesn't help...
    Anyone got any other ideas?
I've googled and found people having problems with low sound volume on other laptops using the ALC262 chip, but no general solution.

  • Very very low sound in internal speaker

Hi I have satellite A505 S6005 some days ago its internal speaker did not give sound today i realize that very very low sound is coming in right speaker. i aleady reinstall realtek latest version and re istall the bios version 1.4 kindly help me

Don't forget to check the physcial volume control dial on the side of the laptop. Not easy to see, and many people aren't aware that it exists. I had a low volume problem and was pulling my hair out for a day or two until I realised it was there.

  • Very little sound from external speakers

After upgrading to Lion, there seems to be very little sound coming from my external speakers.  Speakers work with other devices but not so much with MacBook Pro.  In iTunes, the volumn slider is maxed out with the speaker volumn on the keyboard maxed out too.  Used to blast out the house, but not now.
Don't know if it's as a result of the upgrade or not.  I did a PRAM reset but still nothing.
    Any advice?
    Thanks in advance.
