AirTunes won't work on Snow Leopard

Before I installed 10.6 everything was working fine. Right after the installation completed I fired up iTunes and the authorization toward to the store was failing. I ran the verify and then fix permission task and now that works.
What I can't figure out how to restore, as before, the AirTune. Every time I set from iTunes the Airport Express (for the remote speakers) the wireless network dies. The only way to restore the signal is to wait a few minutes, then turn off/on the wireless and browse a random website!!
Airport Utility doesn't report any problem.
Any help?

I've noticed that any time I have had a problem with Airport Express or Extreme & connected peripherals and/or Air Tunes the procedure originally given by xray_guy seems to solve it. After installing 10.6.1 I had Air Tunes dropping out and then going all quiet at the end of a song although iTunes seemed to be moving to the next track and playing it. What I did was this:
step 1 - via Finder, go to /MacIntosh HD/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration and copy the com.apple.airport.preferences.plist file to your desktop (as a backup)
step 2 - then delete the com.apple.airport.preferences.plist file from the /MacIntosh HD/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration location (you will need to authenticate as the system administrator to perform this)
step 3 - turn off your AirPort and then reboot your system
step 4 - after rebooting, log into your system as administrator and open System Preferences/Network and select AirPort from your device type list
step 5 - select the "Turn AirPort On" button and then select your network from the tab below and click "apply"
step 6 - Repair disk permissions with the Disk Utility application
step 7 - reboot system and check your connection
The above has worked like a charm for me on 10.5.X and still does on 10.6.1 , it seems.

  • HP Printer Won't Work With Snow Leopard

Hi, I hope you can help. I have just upgraded to Snow Leopard and my HP printer won't print. It is a Laserjet 1015 and new drivers are meant to be on the list with SN. My iMac recognises the printer is there but cannot make a connection. I am networking it using an Airport which is working fine. I have even reset the printer system and deleted the printer and added it again but after starting to process a document to print it just stops.
The other thing is that Pages v 1.0.2 also won't work now. I can open the software, but it can't open any existing documents nor will it open a new blank template. This is my work software (I'm a journalist) so this is a real worry. Any suggestions??
    Thanks so much
    Jo

    Hi JoJoh,
I can't be of much help with the printer but I just checked my "Pages" and my version number is 4.0.2. I'm using iWork 09. Perhaps you need to update? I just checked the "Snow Leopard Compatible" site and found "Apple Pages 4.0.2" is compatible. It didn't mention 1.0.2. I'm so sorry. That's pretty rough when it's how you make your living.
As for the printer, I have an HP Photosmart C4580 which wouldn't print. I finally just deleted all the printers on my MacBook and used my Snow Leopard install disk and selected the "Optional Install" which allowed me to just reinstall the printers. My HP is now working fine. I do feel like this is just a work-around until HP gets things sorted out. I say that because even though my HP now works, the only place it shows up is in my users folder. It's not in my Applications folder, but as long as it works for now, I don't care.
Hope I was of some help to you. Best of luck!

  • Calculator won't work with Snow Leopard

I recently upgraded to snow leopard (mac pro).  Now when I try to use my calculator it says the version I have won't work with this version.  I have looked for updates but it says I current.  Do you know why?

I went into my application file and the updated calculator was in there.  Once I moved it onto my dock the caculator works.  I assumed it would update automatically when I upgraded my software; now I know.  Thanks.

  • Help! Aperture won't work with Snow Leopard...

I know you will all probably laugh at me because I have just upgraded to Snow Leopard.  The problem is that nobody told me my Aperture wouldn't work anymore! I can't even open it to retrieve my photos...(btw, this is why I was hesitant to upgrade...but I had to because I got the iphone 5 which wouldn't sync with my itunes version and that wouldn't update unless I went to snow leopard...and so on....).
So, the problem is that I need Aperture version 2.0. so I can update that to 2.1.4 and be compatible with Snow Leopard.  I have 1.5.6 and kept it that way because it was working for me and I just basically use Aperture as a photo storage system. I can't find 2.0 anywhere. I can't figure out how to uninstall snow leopard either. I need my photos back asap.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you in advance,
    Debi

    One more question, debi.
Does your Aperture icon show a circular ring like the ghostbusters? Like below for my CCC?
And is the "Kind" listed as "Application (PowerPC)" when you use "Get Info ⌘I)? That would indicate that your current Aperture version is still a PowerPC application. Then you can still make it run on Snow Leopard. You have to make sure that your Snow Leopard installation includes the Rosetta environment.
Do you have a Snow Leopard install disk? Look into the "Optional Installs" folder on this disk and open the "Optional Installs" package. Proceed as described in the second part of this
    article:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/1167117/reinstalling_rosetta.html
If your Aperture 2 version is still a PoerPC app, installing Rosetta should enable you to run the aperture 2 installer from your installation disk and then upgrade to Aperture 2.1.4.

  • Printer won't work with Snow Leopard

    Hello,
I have been using a Lexmark colour printer with my iMac. I upgraded to Snow Leopard and since then my printer does not work. Does anyone have a solution to this as I don't really want to buy another printer, especially as I have bought a new stock or print cartridges for the printer.
Many thanks to anyone who can help.
    Kind regard, Maggi

    Hello Maggi:
This is a list of OS X supported printer drivers:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669#lexmark
Since you did not indicate your specific printer model, I cannot make further suggestions.
If your printer is not listed, some people have had success with generic Gutenberg drivers.

  • Skype upgrade won't work on Snow Leopard

My Macair uses Snow Leopard. In the last few days when wanting to open Skype, it came up with a message saying I had to upgrade or it wouldn't work any longer. I downloaded upgrade 6.3.0.602. Skype opened its login window and I entered my username and password, but then it logged me out saying "You are using an outdated version of Skype". Now in my Applications window the Skype icon is grey with a circle and bar superimposed. I need Skype - what do I do to fix this?

    Dear Dalover --
Thank you! I've clicked on that link, followed the steps and Skype version 6 is now working.
    I think what happened was
    - The original warning message from Skype that our version would no longer work, provided a link for upgrading to the current version
    - When we clicked that link and downloaded and installed Skype, the version we installed was 6.3.0.602. When we opened it, we got the message that we had an old version of Skype and needed Mavericks. Neither bit of news was helpful.
    - When I clicked on the link you supplied and followed the obvious couple of steps, the Skype we downloaded and now have is 6.15.0.334.
Whether that's earlier or later than 6.3.0.602 I don't know, but it works and that's all that matters!
A big thank you from us both -- Kay and Stephen.

  • Rosetta won't work in Snow Leopard?

I have a partition on my Mac Mini running Snow Leopard. In fact I reinstalled it last night from the original disk and made sure that Rosetta was checked under optional installs as I want to run a classic program. I did not do any software updates. I inserted the CD with the installer program (classic) and I get the null symbol over the installer icon as though it were incompatible.
Why, if Rosetta is installed, can't I run a classic program?

Classic usually refers to apps from OS 9 or earlier. If it's that old, it won't run at all. Support for Classic was dropped in 10.5.x. You'd have to be running Tiger, 10.4.x in order to install and run apps that old.

  • DVD Player app won't work with Snow Leopard

I installed Snow Leopard recently. I tried to watch a DVD with DVD player. It wouldn't work. I got this message in a box: "You can't use this version of the application DVD Player with this version of Mac OS X. You have DVD Player 5.0.3."
I looked for a recent DVD player update/download and could not find one. Same with Snow Leopard updates...
Does anybody know the fix or the workaround?
    Thanks,
    Estel Dillon

    HI,
Download and install the 10.6.2 combo update available here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL959
    Then repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
In the future, when updating system software, click the Apple Menu  /Software Updates. If that doesnt't work then go here: http://support.apple.com/downloads/ and use the standalone installers.
*The DVD Player application is not available to reintall from the SL disc*. If after the suggestions above haven't helped, then back up your important data before you do anything, then reinstall Snow Leopard.
You can reinstall the following apps from your SL disc.
    Address Book
    iCal
    iChat
    iTunes
    Mail
    Oxford Dictionaries
    Safari
    and X11

  • ITunes 9 store won't work without snow leopard.

I downloaded the newest version of iTunes but I need Snow leopard in order for the store to work. I only have version 10.4.11. Is there anything i can do without getting leopard to make the store work? I was thinking about just uninstalling itunes and installing an earlier version.

iTunes 9 will work on OS 10.4.11, but you need Safari 4.0.3 installed to access the store.
You can get Safari here: http://www.apple.com/safari/download/
Be sure to choose the version for Tiger:

  • IPhoto movies won't work after Snow Leopard update

I recently updated to Snow Leopard an now my iPhoto movies wont' play. Any ideas?

I have contacted autodesk to update my license but this hasn't worked.
Hasn't worked how? I don't know anything about Maya, but a lot of things changed under-the-hood in Snow Leopard, meaning a lot of programs broke. Are you running the most recent version of Maya, and is that version supposed to work on SL?

  • Pages 1.0.2 won't work with Snow Leopard

I have my Pages 1.0.2 in the iWork folder within Applications. It seems to start but is unresponsive to any commands. I tried to update because I'm using Snow Leopard, but the update tells me it cannot find an "eligible" Pages within the iWork folder. Why is my pages ineligible for an update to Snow Leopard?

  • WD 1TB External Hard Drive won't work with Snow Leopard

    Hi all,
I recently purchased a Western Digital 1TB External Hard Drive. It came formatted for Windows with NTFS, but I didn't think this was a problem as the packaging stated it could easily be reformatted for Mac OS. To cut a long story short, it couldn't. When I plugged it in to my Mac (iMac 21" i3) and tried to use Disk Utility to reformat it, partition it, whatever, it just wouldn't work always returning some sort of error. I resorted to using a Gparted Live CD and succesfully formated it to HFS+ but yet when I plugged it into my Mac it wouldn't mount the disk. After following advice to let Disk Utility 'Repair' the disk, this is the output:
    Verify and Repair volume “external”
    Checking non-journaled HFS Plus Volume.
    Checking extents overflow file.
Unused node is not erased (node = 1458) [In red]

    Checking volume bitmap.
Volume bitmap needs minor repair for orphaned blocks [In red]
    Checking volume information.
Invalid volume free block count [In red]
(It should be 244164065 instead of 244148705)
The volume external was found corrupt and needs to be repaired. [In red]
Error: Disk Utility can’t repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files. [In red]
If anyone knows what this means, and more importantly anything I can do to try and fix this, I would really really appreciate the help!
(Obviously I see it says reformat the disk, but this is easier said than done. Now Gparted crashes when it tries to read it and Disk Utility hangs indefinitely if I try to do anything to it)

I believe the reasons behind this must have something to do with the errors highlighted by the repair process (as copied above)- errors I don't understand.
Disk Utility can't repair NTFS volumes.
If the drive is not seriously damaged ...
    Go to Disk Utility
Click on the external Drive (not on the existing partition)
Click on Partition section in Disk Utility
In the Pane under "Current Scheme" highlite the Partition and then click the "-" (minus) sign down left.
Click on the dropdown "Current Scheme" and choose a matching scheme
On Format choose "Mac OS extended journaled"
    Click "Apply"

  • Firefox won't work with Snow Leopard...

Some people are confused by what to do with a Firefox download. What do you do after you downloaded it? What do you mean by "I can't run it"?
After you download Firefox you should have a ".dmg" file in your Downloads folder (probably in your Dock). Click on the Download folder in the Dock, then in the resulting window click on the Firefox icon. A "virtual volume" should mount and a Firefox window should open. In that window drag the Firefox icon into the icon of the Application folder. Once the copying is complete, you can eject the Firefox volume any of several ways. You can also trash the downloaded Firefox ".dmg" file. At this point you can launch Firefox by opening your computer's Application folder, locating Firefox, and double-clicking on it.
