AirTunes works for one Mac, not the other...
Hi all,
I have an AirPort Express that connects to our 2WIRE WiFi network. My mid-2008 MBP running iTunes 9 and OS 10.5.8 connects flawlessly, but I have a mid-2005 iBook G4 that I use as a file server that is now having trouble connecting to the remote speakers. It is also running iTunes 9 and OS 10.5.8, and I encountered the connection troubles right around the time iTunes 9 was released.
Firewall settings are the same on both computers, but is there anything else I should compare between the two machines to see what's allowing the MBP to work while preventing the iBook from working?

For anyone that may run into this problem, I went into the 2WIRE router settings and opened up TCP ports 548-554 on my Airport Express. All is running smoothly now!

from system panel's game controller, i can successfully test my
joystick and it works fine for both computers...but the vi just don't
seem to work in the windows 2000 one.

any suggestion in how i can fix this? what would be the reason to this?

I have CS6 and CC installed on my mac when I'm using CS6 and use bridge CC activates how can I set this to only work on one and not the other
If you want Bridge CS6 to open when using Photoshop CS6, you must quit Bridge CC.
Then File menu > Browse in Bridge will bring up Bridge CS6.
If Bridge CC is already open, The File > Browse in Bridge for Photoshop CS6 will use Bridge CC and Bridge CS6 will not open.

That's what I told a helper friend of mine, but he told me
the POST is done
by the server, not the JS files. That's why, according to
him, he couldn't

23" works on One but not the Other
I have a Powerbook G4 1.25 GHz running 10.3.9 connected to a similar vintage 23" clear plastic case display with a DVI to ADC adapter connection and it works great.
My husband recently bought a used Powerbook G4 1.67 GHz running 10.4.8. We thought sure that when I was out of town with my computer he could hook up and enjoy the use of my big display, but no luck. It just gives him a blank screen.
Any suggestions as to why that would be? Does his machine require a different adapter? Is it possible his port is just not functioning?

Powerbook G4 Mac OS X (10.3.9) 23 inch displayI couldn't remember what the Display Preferences had said when we tried this last spring and again in the summer, so tonight we connected it again, and wouldn't you know - it worked just fine. We didn't do anything different, so I have no clue as to why it worked this time but not before. He's thinking about getting his own big display, but didn't want to waste his money if he couldn't get it to work, so now I guess we're shopping for another 23" display - probably a used one. Thanks!

ITunes 7.0.2 sees shuffle on one Mac, not the other
I have one Mac with several System disks. All at 10.4.8 and iTunes 7.0.2. One system sees the new shuffle and will loads tunes. The other will ask to erase and sync and I agree. Then I choose songs and then apply. One system will go and load up the shuffle (with the proper image of the new shuffle in iTunes). The other (with a generic iPod image in iTunes) will say it cannot update because it cannot find the shuffle! On that problem system drive, I removed iTunes (receipt and helper) and then re-installed iTunes from the dmg. Same problem.
What other files is iTunes using that are corrupt on the problem system drive?
You may ask, why not use the good system? Well, the problem system is my everyday system with all the apps working! This system drive also has all the tunes files. This also has been through many upgrades.
It is time to start over?The only receipts I have for iPod are the updaters for their firmware and the new reset program.

I still think there is some file that got munged and it is preventing iTunes from working properly. This file is not provided by iTunes, but must be part of the OS.

2 Lenovo ideatab A2107A, front facing camera works on one but not the other
i just purchased two of the same lenovo ideatab A2107A from best buy and i noticed that when trying to take a picture on one i was able to zoom in and change to the front facing camera. The other i can get into the camera, but i cannot zoom in nor can i switch to front facing camera (the icon is not even there). the other camera works well, zoom, video and all, the other i cannot zoom and i cannot switch, any thoughts besides factory resetting?

You can try to:
1. Download the latest updates Over The Air (OTA) to get the latest patches and bug fixes on the OS (go to settings > about tablet > check for system update).
2. Download a camera app utility like Camera Zoom FX to see if you can zoom in and out and switch to the front facing camera.

Personal Web Sharing Works on One Mac, Not on Other
I can't get Personal Web Sharing to work with my MacBook Pro. It does work with my iMac. Yes, I can turn it on just fine on the MacBook, by means of System Preferences->Sharing, but I can't successfully use the Personal Web http:// link I see there as a URL in my iMac's browser. When I try, it tells me it can't connect to the host, i.e., the MacBook. When I do the same in reverse, from my MacBook browser with my iMac as target (though the local IP address and the short-user-name are of course different), the connection works fine.
I don't think I'm using an incorrect local IP address to try to get to my MacBook. I've checked that. And I do have an index.html file in the appropriate Sites folder on each machine.
I'm using Mac OS Leopard 10.5.8 on both machines.
The problem also shows up on Safari on my iPhone. It can access Personal Web Sharing on the iMac but it can't on the MacBook.
I wonder if it's a Bonjour problem? I don't exactly know if Bonjour is running on the MacBook, or how to tell if it is, or how to activate it if it isn't running.

'sudo apachectl start' asked for my password and seemed to have no complaints after getting it. But it didn't tell me anything, and it didn't make a difference.

It made no difference whether Personal Web Sharing was on or off in System Preferences when I did that.
I do know that the Apache log file is apparently not there where apachectl expects it. I don't understand the other stuff it said, but it looks like maybe it was trying to use an IP address of 0.0.0.0 instead of 10.0.1.16.
10.0.1.16 is the local IP address of my MacBook.
I tried 'apachectl configtest' and got 'Syntax OK'.
I tried moving index.html to /Library/WebServer/Documents -- no help.
I tried creating a new configuration file in the way you said to try -- no help.
No matter what I try, I get:
Unable to connect
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at 10.0.1.16.
I'm beginning to wonder if the Apache environment might not need to be reinstalled. But I'm not sure how. I'm running Leopard 10.5.8, but the original install disk I have is 10.5.1. Software Update moved me up from that to 10.5.8 over time. Your further thoughts and advice will be greatly appreciated ... -
IBooks sync works on one Mac, not on other
On my iPhone and iPad, my iBooks setup includes some custom collections containing PDF files. After installing Mavericks on my Mac Pro, the Mac version of iBooks immediately acquired all of the custom collections, and they were filled with the correct PDFs. But on my MacBook Pro, the custom collections showed up but none of the PDF content appeared. I can't find any way to force iBooks on the MacBook Pro to sync.
Any ideas? Similar experiences?I have an even more unique situation.
When iBooks was part of iTunes, I cleverly used the "Genre" popup within the Info panel for each PDF document to create a "category", e.g. Technical Documents, Proposals, Project Names, etc.
In other words, I treated each PDF like I would a song, and created my own categories (rather than an actual genre like Jazz, Rock, etc.), which I could then sort. As a result, in the iPad, my documents were automatically sorted when using the Categories tab. This works great in all the versions of iOS.
Now that iBooks has been separated out as a separate desktop app, I can no longer sync up these files in the same manner.
It seems that I am now forced to create "Collections" for each of these previously created genres!
As a final note, make sure you have the "Sync Collections" switch turned ON in Settings > iBooks on your iPhone or iPad, which will ensure that all your Collections sync up on all devices. -
Java update for one, but not the other ML installation
I have two ML installations (one mbp, the other a mac mini). Recently with the Java scare, I disabled Java on both.
Only the mbp offered me to update Java to the (presumably) fixed version, while on the mac-mini 'Sofwtare Update' does not
offre me the update.
How can I check my java install.
Also, what is the suggested version of Java, Apple's or Oracle's?How can I check my java install.

They do different things. Oracle's JRE is a web plugin for running applets and WebStart applications. Apple's JRE is a framework for running standalone applications. -
USB Headset Works in One Port, Not the Other
When I got my headset (Logitech) it worked perfectly just after plugging it in and using it. It worked while plugged in to either of my USB ports on my laptop. Recently however, it has not worked at all while plugged in to the port on the left, while it still does work when plugged in to the port on the right.
If I open iTunes while plugged in to the non-working left port and make sure to change my system prefs so that the input and output use the Logtech USB Headset, then I hear no sound of any kind. If I then simply plug the USB headset into the other side of the computer without changing any settings, it works fine. This is new behavior as it used to work in both ports.
Another thing to note is that the volume control buttons on the headset still work even when plugged into the USB port that doesn't play sound. Also, I successfully plug in my printer, mouse and other devices to both ports and they all work fine.
I've tried repairing permissions, repairing preferences, and restarting, but nothing has helped so far.

Printer Sharing Works in One Direction, Not the Other
I recently set up a MacBook for my mom. She also has an older iMac with a Canon Pixma IP90 attached, so I tried to set up printer sharing, which should allow her to print from the MacBook without switching the USB cable around. Printing from the iMac works perfectly. However, the printer refuses to show up on the MacBook's printer list when I try to add it on the MacBook.
The MacBook can use the printer when connected to it via USB, and -- here's the bizarre part -- the MacBook can share the printer with the iMac. But it absolutely refuses to work the other way around.
Printer sharing and AppleTalk are enabled on both machines.

Capturing webcam works on one computer, not the other.
Step 1 - I did all the JMF stuff and got the JMStudio working on my laptop that has a built in webcam.
Step 2 - I went into the JMF Registry, pulled out the video capture device (vfw:Microsoft WDM Image Capture (Win32):0) and edited it into the SwingCapture application posted below and got the custom application working flawless.
Step 3 - Everything worked perfect so I loaded all the JMF/Eclipse stuff onto my uncle's laptop and plugged in his Panasonic PV-GS120 handheld video camera that also has webcam drivers.
Step 4 - Got the JMStudio working perfect with this webcam device and all is well.
Step 5 - Copied over my modified application (SwingCapture) and pulled the appropriate capture device (vfw:Microsoft WDM Image Capture (Win32):1) from JMF Registry and edited it into the right spot in the application.
Step 6 - Tried to run the application and got the following error:

PHP email works on one domain not the other.

We have a web server running 10.4.11. This server hosts for many different domains.
We have these two particular domains with the exact functionality for a given feature...
"form.html" posts to "email.php" then redirects to "thankyou.html". Not rocket science
On Domain1.com this works and the exact files on Domain2.com don't.
No PHP errors, nothing indicative in the httpd logs. Just redirects to "thankyou.html" and never sends the email.

Then it doesn't sound like a PHP issue, but a mail issue.
The fact that you're getting a redirect, and that redirect comes from the PHP code tells me that PHP is running. I'd look at the code and see how you're trying to send email. Is it, for example, trying to use the local mail service running on the machine, but the mail server isn't running?
That would cause the messages to queue up (PHP would add them to the queue but the mail server would never get to deliver them). -
IPod works on one computer not the other
I have all the latest software.
iPod shows up and connects ever since I did factory restore on my laptop.
But my iMac at home still doesn't work with iPod.
what can I do?a few suggestions...
1. is your laptop also windows or mac? if it is windows that is your problem...you can't sync between two different OS's or paltforms.
2. for some reason i don't think you can sync between two libraries...but maybe you can if they are the same. check the manual if you haven't and let me know cause i'd be interested to see what it says
