AIW 9700 Pro boot up problems.

I was wondering if anyone has a setup with the same board-video card. I cant get this card to work without hot pluggin the power cord to the video. I have tried a few PSU's now and nothing seems to work.
Im hearing that this is a board problem. Is MSI aware of this? Anything being done about it? I would love to keep this MSI board, but if something is not working then i guess its Asus time.

Hi,
Is this a new build with all new components?
This would seem to have PSU written all over it. Is it just powering down, or are you getting "Reds" on the D-Bracket - if so, what are they? Is the card ATI "Built" or "Powered By".
Might be a good idea to check connector power cable (for VGA card) for "Iffy" pins. (Sorry about this - but you never know!)
Bonz is probably right though, although it looks a PSU problem - yours seems up to spec - and you say you've tried a few!
BTW, unplugging the mem and switching on with no sticks fitted - at all - could possibly give you the same problem (inability to boot - notwithstanding), so unplugging them would prove nothing.

  • 3 yr old macbook pro boot up problems

Hi, I bought a 13” macbook pro 3 yrs ago.. Its running the latest version of Lion.
I have a boot up problem.
Initially the boot up sound will go off and get stuck on a white screen.
I’ve left it on for 30mins….it took me to a disk disk utility  screen…
    I’ve clicked on repair disk….after about 15mins
    Its saids
    Checking Journaled  HFS Plus volume
    Invalid B-tree node size
The volume could not be verified completely
Then I restart….now… not only does it get suck on the white screen, but the boot up sound keeps repeating
Im currently living in Hong Kong, what should I do now, and if it requires repairs…how much would It cost.
    Thanks,
    WB

I don't know what happened. It is not a common occurrence. It can be caused by power outages, abnormal shutdowns, software glitches, etc.
I would think seriously about a backup strategy for the future:
    Basic Backup
Get an external drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    Carbon Copy Cloner
    Data Backup
    Deja Vu
    SuperDuper!
    Synk Pro
    Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on backup and restore.  Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files.
Although you can buy a complete external drive system, you can also put one together if you are so inclined.  It's relatively easy and only requires a Phillips head screwdriver (typically.)  You can purchase hard drives separately.  This gives you an opportunity to shop for the best prices on a hard drive of your choice.  Reliable brands include Seagate, Hitachi, Western Digital, Toshiba, and Fujitsu.  You can find reviews and benchmarks on many drives at Storage Review.
    Enclosures for FireWire and USB are readily available.  You can find only FireWire enclosures, only USB enclosures, and enclosures that feature multiple ports.  I would stress getting enclosures that use the Oxford chipsets especially for Firewire drives (911, 921, 922, for example.)  You can find enclosures at places such as;
    Cool Drives
    OWC
    WiebeTech
    Firewire Direct
    California Drives
    NewEgg
All you need do is remove a case cover, mount the hard drive in the enclosure and connect the cables, then re-attach the case cover.  Usually the only tool required is a small or medium Phillips screwdriver.

  • Macbook Pro boot up problems

    Hi
I have a Macbook Pro from 2006. Recently, it boots up to the stage of the Apple logo and a grey bar appears to load twice but then shuts down. I took it to an Apple reseller who said it was a problem with the logic board. I started it up in verbose mode, and although I know very little about technical details, the start up comments that look negative are:
    -Invalid sibling link
    -Disk full error
-The volume Macintosh HD could not be repaired
    -fsck failed
    -Can't get kextd port
    -Killing all processes
    -CPU halted
It doesn't sound good to me. I wondered if anyone could offer any further insights?
    Thanks!

P.S I just took the case i had on it off then shut down and restarted twice and it came on both times. I don't know if this means anything

  • Battle Field BC 2 Mac pro boot camp problem

Im very new to boot camp and al of that stuff.
I installed windows 7 on my mac pro, then i installed the snow leopard cd.
Then i installed BFBC2 and when i try to start it up it starts gathering info then one part of my screen goes white and the mouse starts loading then everything goes back to normal and it doesn't start.
I wonder if there is any drivers i have to install or something i forgot to do.
    Please help me!

32-bit limits your RAM and with 1GB ATI 57x0 that does matter, but if you bought retail, you have both, though many just opt for System Builder which is half the price (and have SP1 now already).

  • 9700 pro loses signal

this problem is on my friends pc which is exactly the same as my pc except his ati 9700 pro card is one of the cards that came out within 3 months after it was a brand new card last year or whenever they were released.
    ati 9700 pro and 865PE Neo2 FISR2 bios 1.9.
sometimes with games the video goes black and just seems to freeze, the pc is running, but no video signal. the only way to fix it is to reboot with the reset button on the front of the case. happens with no overclocking and running defaults. will be playing never winter nights and every hr or so this happens. tried another 9700 pro card with no problems what so ever.
have heard that the early ati 9700 pro cards have problems with this mobo, and later serial numbers don't. the card with problem was gotten within 3 months after it came out last year. the card that works was new as of the last 2 months.
does anyone have a suggestion othger then new mobo and new ati card? Will flashing the card to make it a 9800 pro fix the issue?

There was a Well known Issue with some of the 9700-Pro's, But Another thing that I read was that the early Board's Had Very Thin PCB's (As they are 1 Layer Less then all of the Rest) and these were the Rev. A1 Boards, Go look in SANDRA Load AGP-PCI-Cardbus Information Module (NOT Vidio System Info) And Scroll to AGP, and Under OEM Harware ID Look across and see if it says REV_A1, if it Does, it may be one that has this Problem. And to Help with the thin PCB Where it is Loose (Looses Contact with the AGP Slot) He Can Try to Gently Push and wiggle the Card some (To achieve Better Contact)..And if this is Not the Case, Than he has another Early Card Problem, as this is a responce from one of the ATI techs.>>>Dated Dec 24, 2003 at 01:10 PM reply
    Hi David,
This video card has a know problem with the Intel 865 chipset. The only ati cards that work have to have a serial # with -30 at the end or higher or they will not work. Because this card is discontinued our supplier cannot gaurantee a -30 card as a replacement. We can only exchange for a different item within the first 15 days so the only thing I can suggest is to see if you have a friend that may want to buy the card as there is probably nothing wrong with it and then buy another one. Any of the new 9600 or 9800 series don't have this problem. If you have any other questions let me know. Thanks alot.

  • K8T Neo and AGP ATI 9700 Pro...Video Problems!

This computer has been out of service for almost 6 months as I have replaced it with a new one. I grabed it today and loaded XP Pro on it without any problems. I have 2 monitors attached to the ATI 9700 Pro both running at 1600x1200. After configuring the new OS with updates and drivers I rebooted. This is where the problem surfaced.
    PROBLEM:
I get to the XP PRO Loading screen with the progress bar. After a few seconds, 2 revolutions from the progress bar, the screens go black and a few seconds after that the monitors go into standby due to the lack of a video signal.
    MORE INFO:
Several times when I tried to reboot, the PC would not display video at all and beep (the video error), 7 times (I think). Now this problem is not happening. Although I did get random characters all over the screen once.
I can boot into Safe Mode without any problems.
    480w Thermaltake PSU
    THEORIES:
The AGP slot is having problems changing the resolution from default to 1600x1200 for the monitors.
    NOTE:
This computer has always had problems, 99% of which were playing video games. The problems I experienced in video games were that the computer would lock-up or automatically reboot after random time intervals when playing games. The games I noticed it having the most problems with were Everquest II and World of Warcraft. I replaced this machine with a Dell and have had no problems with either application. Therefore I can rule out faulty software. At the time before replacing this machine I tested everything, Memory, Hard Drives, etc...

  • AIW Radeon 9700 Pro card no work

I just put together this sytem:
    Dual Opteron 242 (1.6ghz)
    MSI 580 Master2
3 sticks Samsung 512 MB ECC Registered PC3200 400Mhz DDR
All in Wonder Radeon 9700 Pro
    Antec 550 Watt TruePower:
    +5V 40A
    +12V 24A
    +3.3V 32A
    -5V .5A
    -12V 1.0A
    +5 SB 2.0A
At this point i turn on the computer and the fans go on but then the power is cut - I think by the power supply. After a while I realized how to at least keep the computer running - I unplugged the Radeon's REQUIRED power supply (via HD..CD.. etc power cord) and it worked, problem is video card wont work without that power.... So um what do i do.
Card worked on my former Abit comp which I have used for over a year....

Im going to shift this thread to memory, the All in wonder is not the problem, and the boot-up problem MSI knows about but has resisted to fix it probably because they dont know how, a workaround is to hotplug the power adapter in which is not the best or safest way but its the only way. My new case doesnt have a PC speaker for some reason so i ran a wire from a PC speaker to it... I get continous long beeps... sounds like memory problem, I've tried Samsung 266mhz 2700 (worked in my old comp), and what i want to use, PC3200 Samsung 400mhz. Both are ECC registered.
I have 3 sticks 512MB... they go in DIMM's 1 2 and 3 correct? And you only push down until the clips snap in correct? I've tried just one stick of both types in all 4 different DIMM's, same end, I tried no memory, same result.

  • Another KT4 Ultra + 9700 Pro problem

Having invested nearly 300 quid on a Radeon 9700 PRo  (Powercolor Evil commando 2) I decided to buy a new mobo with 8X AGP.  I opted for the MSI KT4 Ultra, cos I already had a MS-6340 V5.0 it seemed a good/reliable choice. I went ahead and bought a KT4 Ultra. This arrived a couple of weeks ago.
I was awaiting a new CPU/fan (2200+) and new PSU so, I hadnt been able to build my new system up. In the meantime I had been keenly watching the forums re: KT4 /9700 problems.
When i came to put my system together, this is what i found:
    1.  System wouldnt boot up at all.
    -   So I took out the 9700 and put in a GF2, and the machine booted ok.
Installed latest via drivers, C-Media drivers using live update.
    Upgraded Bios to 1.1
    2. Im using a trial version of XP, which had 13 days (IRONIC) before activation was required. When I rebooted after BIOS upgrade, Windows insisted on instant activation of the product key and wouldnt load Arrrrghhhh!
After a re-install of XP I still was left with the same problem. The 9700 wouldnt work at all.
    I checked the bios settings, and changed the FSB from 100 to 166 ( i have 512Mb DDR333 ) - no change.
AGP settings on auto,  128Mb Apperture
I had seen other with problems getting the 8X AGP to work with this mobo, but i cant get anything to work with it!!!
What else can I do?  Is there someting fundamental I have missed?
I am thinking of sending the KT4 Ultra back to the shop and getting a mobo which works with the 9700! Any Ideas ?
BTW the Gcard still works ok on a MAINBOARD K7S5A

    Thanx  maesus
    1.   v1.1
    2.  400w psu  vtec  - Not sure how well known they are!
I bought it from a computer fair from a guy selling ANTECH psu's . He had no Antech left, and suggested that these were good units. Having got it home and run it i believe him. In SANDRA  all voltage levels looked stable and v close to nominal.
    3. MS-6590 arrived on 18th Oct 2002 , so its almost ten days old.
Both items were bought on the net.
RMAing the boards maybe my only option now if i want to stick with th eboards ive got, but do u think i would be better to swap for a different KT4 board? since i believe other models of the KT4 dont have the 9700 problem, or is this not the case?
    thanks again

  • K7D Master-L + ATI 9700 Pro won't boot WinXP

I posted about this a while ago, but none of the responses helped.
I can't boot into Windows XP. It gets to the black "progress bar" screen and stops. I can boot into Safe Mode, and when booting using the logging, it stops when loading the "agpgart" file.
I'm currently running Windows 2000 and still have an odd problem. The system detects two video cards: "RADEON 9700 PRO" and "RADEON 9700 PRO - Secondary".
I'm using the latest BIOS for the board, and latest drivers.
    Any ideas?

I just finished redoing the drivers, and still have two display adapters listed. The only difference I can find, other than the name is this: one device is listed as "PCI bus 1, device 5, function 1" and the other is "PCI bus 1, device 5, function 0". The dual-output theory is probably correct, I never thought of that because I've never used the DVI output (I only have a CRT monitor), nor have I ever used a computer with a dual-head video card. I guess I assumed it would still show up as one device. Even if thats not correct, its good enough for me to forget about it! :P
When I was installing WinXP, it was a clean install. I've never seen a "100% successful" Windows upgrade, so I steer clear of doing that. I know enough to partition my drives so I don't have to reinstall everything or lose data through reinstalls. I recently got a new XP CD, one that includes Service Pack 1a. My other CD is the original release, so maybe that will help somehow. I was actually thinking about going the upgrade route, since full install doesn't work. I have no other PCI cards in the computer. I'm using the on-board NIC and audio.

  • Problems with KT4V and AtiRadeon 9700 Pro...

    Hi all,
I have lots of problems with my current configuration with games (lock ups) and even in normal use. Also I'm not able to run 3DMark through to see with kind of results would I get. Car chase (high) gets very low fps and the nature test doesn't even work. I have tried different 4in1 drivers and BIOS versions. With 1.6 BIOS version I had lots of CRC errors (should be corrected in BIOS ver. 1.7 but in expense of data rate?).  Does anyone have any suggestions so that I could for example go through the 3DMark even with the expense of performance?
I had those game lock up problems also earlier with KT7A-100 RAID + AtiRadeon 64 (3DMark worked) so I bought new graphic card (didn't help) and after that I bought the new mobo. I know my config is not the best in the world, but I think it should be enough to give some happy moments in ever so demanding games... for a while...
There is also one thing that is quite strange. In my display adapters there is two drivers for AtiRadeon (primary in AGP and secondary in PCI)? I'm not expert, but isn't that weird? I have tried installing different drivers again and again (also reinstalled OS) with no luck! Trying to delete the secondary one doesn't help...
    Help..........!

with ati,s own cards you need revision 1.3 as well best i can recall, but yours is an oem so im not sure

  • MSI Mobo + Hercules 3D Prophet 9700 Pro Problem

    Hello,
I'm having unexpected reboots or crashes while playing games. This does not come from my onboard sound card because it tried another (not integrated) sound card and the problem was still here... (not an IRQ problem)
Crashes can occur 5-20 minutes after starting to play, sometimes followed by a Windows error message explaining that the VPU has reset the graphics accelerator card because it was not responding to driver commands.......
I have the lastest MSI Drivers and Bios (MSI Live Monitor), I have the lastest DirectX, tried ATI and Hercules latest drivers, tried different AGP apperture sizes and many other BIOS tweaks but nothing made a difference....
Maybe this can be due to my DDR, since I'm using 2 different (brand) 512 Mb 333/PC2700 sticks (haven't tried MemTest 3.0 yet)
    System is:
    Windows XP SP1
400W Ever-Power PSU (tried with a 350W Enermax PSU and didnt change anything)
    2,4 Ghz 533 FSB Pentium 4
    1 Gb DDR333/2700
    MSI 655 Max L Motherboard

The best way to get good airflow, remove your side case panel and get a good old fan to blow the hell out of it and test to confirm if it's heat concern .

    RAM 4x256 dual channel
Graphic Card Radeon 9700 pro 128MB/128Bit

Game crashing could be caused by few problems, could be software or hardware. Assuming we're looking into hardware, I suggest you run MEMTEST for your RAM and see if your RAM is defected. Other than that, I can't think of any reason than power supply. But you stated you have a 480 W which should be sufficient. It could be a known problem with ATI on Far Cry? But if this's the case, ATI should be able to deal with it via Driver Update.
If it's software, this is broad. Does Far Cry have any patch?

  • Slow boot up of 2008 macbook pro - Firewire port problem?

My 2008 15" macbook pro mostly works fine, but whenever I shut it down or restart it (as opposed to just sending it to sleep) it gets stuck trying to reboot. It usually takes several attempts, and so far, eventually starts if I leave it for a while, like a few hours.
I try all the basic things, resetting Pvram, trying safety mode, checking the disk for errors in disk utility, but they don't help at all.
It's been like this for about 6 months now, I mostly just never shut it down as it wakes up from sleep mode fine. But I'd like to find out what the problem is as every time I need to restart it I panic that it will never come back on again. Recently I booted it in verbose mode to see what the problem is and I'm getting a never ending error message saying something like this:
FIrewire (OHCI) TI ID 8025 built-in: handleUnrecoverableErrorInt
Seems like it's a problem wth my Firewire Port? I have never used Firewire, so wondered if I could just disable it somehow? my problem seems similar to this guy:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/9001641?searchText=Long%20boot%20up%20time s%202008%2015%22%20Macbook%20pro%20-%20firewire%20port%20problem?
But I'm a bit clueless so I'm not sure if his problem is the same... mine seems to be mostly related to boot up rather than kernal panic (I have no idea what that is to be honest!) and I don't want to just try his fix and break my computer!
My cd/dvd drive also stopped working around the same time, coincidentally the above post also says his drive is not working, I'm not sure if the two issues could be related?
    Any thoughts advice much appreciated!
P.S. The machine has already had a new motherboard and graphics card put in by Apple as per the recall on this model

Ok, I copied the guy in the above thread and disabled my firewire by deleting this file:
    /System/Library/Extensions/IOFireWireFamily.kext
Tested it a couple of times and it seems to have solved my slow boot up problem! I'm down from a 3 hour boot up to a minute or so!
Now, bizarrely, it won't shut down properly... I get stuck at a grey screen when I try to shut down, so I just have to press the dreaded power button. No idea why, but still, I'd rather it powered up properly, so I guess I'll just leave it as it is, I rarely shut it down fully anyway.

  • 9700 pro and K8N Neo 754 Problem

I have some stability issue running 9700 pro on K8N neo 754,
First I was having a signal loss problem during playing and freezing , and I have to reboot manully from the reset buttom, FIXED this problem by running the card at agp 4x instead of 8x
second problem, also signal loss but this time in dos, some time I restart my computer, nothing appear on the desktop and aswell monitor is giving me no signal, just push the reset buttom and it works, and also when I enter bios to change some setting , save and exit , and nothing on the screen (signal loss), then push reset buttom, THAT happens random, some times it restarts without problem, I think the problem is the GPU stop responding.....
I think changing some bios settings may help
I tried disabled agp fast write and agp sidedband , didn't fix, maybe there is something hidden can solve the problem
    3000+
    512 ddr 400 kingston

This board does have settings that can be accessed by pressing shift F2 then pressing alt F3.  I've never accessed them but I hear that there is a setting called nv/ati speedup or something like that.  Some have solved video issues by enabling/disabling this feature.

that is suggesting to me either your PSU is failing, or it is a Poor PSU with over-optimistic amp ratings (eg Q-Tec). it will all appear to work fine on your older board, as that has lower power requirements, have a look in my sticky Is your problem caused by your PSU? for more info and advice.
