Aix 5.1 and 4.3
anyone got any feedback on using aix 5.1 and 4.3 as ldap clients with DS 5.2 (Solaris)
regards peter
Thanks gary
Ill be more specific as i did not come here first
the statments that aix 5.1 and 4.3 ldap dont support
rfc 2307 are what worry me, as fitting these clients
into a DS 5.2 setup that works with solaris 8,9,10
and hp-ux using ldapux 4.0 which is rfc2307.
how does this effect those clients.
5.2 is fine as it supports 2307
regards peterOne thing to keep in mind though is that with 5.2, AIX will not perform an ldap bind to authenticate a user, it prefers to bind to the directory server as the administator (i.e. cn=directory manager), and to authenticate, retrieve the user's hashed unix password (in the traditional UNIX crypt format) and check it for itself. You can use an alternate entry for AIX servers to use instead of directory manager, but they essentially need total read/write access to your entire suffix. With 5.3, it's supposed better (though I have not had an opportunity to verify).

Why does javascript fail to work at gmail on IBM AIX 5.3 and 6.1 systesms?
Sorry about asking this question again; but I have not gotten a responce
in over 6 months.
Both firefox 3 and seamonkey 2 seem to have the same problem
on IBM AIX 5.3 and 6.1 systems.
If I try to login to gmail using their standard method (Not HTML)
I can not select any folder. If I select a folder firefox hang.
I just see a message saying "Loading".
I am also experiencing problems when I access my financial
institutions (Online banking!).
I believe the problem is in the javascript implementation.
Not sure about gmail; but I do know that the problem at
my financial institusions sites has to do with executing
a javascript.
"I really need some help. firefox and seamonkey are the
only browsers that have been ported to my systems."
If some one can tell me where to look or what is causing the
problem I can submit a problem report to IBM and have them
fix the problem in their version of firefox. So far IBM has not
been able to figure out what is causing the problem.
I really should upgrade to firefox 3.6.18 and seamonkey 2.0.14; but
I can not find a working version. The only thing that works on my
system is firefox 2.0.0.20 and seamonkey 1.1.18. I keep getting security warning when I uses these browsers.
I really would appreciate some help! Can you start in Firefox safe mode? See [[Safe Mode]]

Does Sun One 6.1 support AIX 5.3 and 6.1
Hi,
We have a license for Sun One web server 6.1. Currently it is running on solaris 8.We want to know whether Sun One web server 6.1is compatible with AIX 5.3 and 6.1 as we are looking to migrate to AIX.
We also need to know wherher the same license(i.e. for Sun One web server 6.1) can be used for Sun Java System Web Server 7.0 or we need a new one?
Please help. You can export the server key + cert with pk12util from the old instance into a PKCS#12 format file and then use pkcs12util to import them to the new instance from that file. Run pkcs12util without any options for usage info.
If you have additional questions about it, start a new thread at the web server forum (see link in the response above by cvr-786) so the relevant people can see it. Do not respond to this thread.
P.S. If you found some problem with migrating away from 4.1 using the supported migration (using pk12util directly as noted above isn't really supported migration, though I believe it should probably work fine) the engineering team would certainly like to know about it. Please start a separate thread (again, in the web server forum, not here) describing the issues and/or file a bug through your support contact. -

I completed the task yesterday with the permission method. However, I think I found the solution after completion. The trick lies at the oraInst.loc file. It lies at /etc directory for my case (AIX 5.3).
If you do a opatch lsinventory, it shows you the Central Inventory location and the location of orainst.loc. For my case, it is pointing to /oracle/DE1/920_64/inventory. Therefore, even though I am logging in as oraqa1 with all env and oracle settings correct, it still points to DE1 inventory.
I think modifying the Central inventory location in oraInst.loc will solve this problem. -

(Usage Type : Web As for Java, EP Core & EP)
CE 7.1 is a separate product, you can´t install EP (core) on top of it. If you want to run a portal you need to install Netweaver 7.0.
Kindly route me to some SAP Notes/Docs/Links for Prerequisites/Installation notes/Constraints and provide me
the Latest Versions available of OS: AIX,DB :Oracle & SAP etc..
I´d start with the official installation guides:

SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SR3 - Installation Guides
What are all the issues I might face at the time of Installation?
Do I need any Oracle Patch?Do I need any OS Level Patch?
Read the installation guides, everything is documented there. It will point you to notes and additional documentation.

When Instant Client for AIX 5L 32 and HP-UX PA-RISC 32 are released?
Does anyone know when Instant Client for AIX 5L 32 might be release?
and also, Instant Client for HP-UX PA-RISC 32 ?There isn't much to check. This is the Instant Client and it was downloaded specifically for the 32-bit PA-RISC platform. The "documentation" simply says I should set the "LD_LIBRARY_PATH" environment variable to include the directory where I unzipped the files. It is obviously looking at the libraries when I load my application, otherwise I would get a different type of error message along the lines of "missing Oracle client". FYI, This is not one of the newer 8x00 chips which support 64-bit addressing, but that is the point of the 32-bit option. I assumed this was compiled for my platform (which more specifically is an HP PA-RISC 7300LC 160MHz processor with 768MB RAM). I know this isn't the most modern box, but I would like to have a simple lab environment for my ERP application and save the hassle and additional expense of aquiring a 64-bit compatible workstation. I figure what I have works well with my application, and there is no 9i 32-bit client...so why not try the 10g Instant Client which should be backwards compatible with my database. BTW, the database is not running on this box, it's on a remote server which does support 64-bit and happens to be running Oracle 9.2.0.4.

AIX-based printing and PDF file generation
Greetings,
looking to find a best practices approach to scheduled printing of pdf BOXI reports hosted by in an AIX environment to a Windows AD secured network printer.
Looking at three possible approaches:
1. AIX-based printing: lpr queue with some ghostscript translation to postscript
2. Windows-based printing via SAMBA: AIX based printing using samba services
3. Windows-based printing via FTP: transfer the file out from the AIX server and script the printing using Control-M
Leaning towards #3 presently. Expert guidance would be greatly appreciated.
MartinHi Martin,
I faced a similar situation at a client site and after actually trying out Option 1, then considering the cost of Option 2 (resources, skill sets and long-term maintenance), we decided to go for Option 3.
With Option 1, we used the lpr queue commands to send the reports to particular printers (print queues) on the that were registered on the AIX box. We faced two major problems with this approach.
(1) We had what we called the 'default' printer problem, where, may be based on the volume of pages we were printing or the performance issues on the server itself, print jobs would go the default print queue on the AIX server. As you can imagine, that was not good. Jobs that were intended for one department were ending up in another, and the default location had to start parsing through the print outs and create piles. Operational nightware.
(2) Cover sheets... We had 1 report (basically a form) that needed to be printed with data for different departments (six depts). So a developer wrote a little java app that called BusinessObjects and passed in the report parameters - and ID, and the printer name. The problem that we faced was that the print jobs would come out the other end, each with its own cover sheet. Even though we passed in the AIX command to suppress the cover sheet, they came out. I don't remember whether specifying the switch in the CMC worked or not - but we didn't have that luxury - we had to do programmatically because the printing was so dynamic.
So we opted for a rather simple situation, which was made possible also because the customer's license allowed it. We installed the report job servers (no CMS) on a windows servers, assigned them to the CMS pool on the AIX server, installed the printers we needed on the Win server. Then we created a Server group that included just the Windows servers (report processing servers), and locked the report in question to only be processed by servers in that group. So the report would only be processed by the Windows servers with the necessary printers.
The solution has been in operation for over 12 months and working great. We can manage all the servers from the CMC and with auditing turned on, we have great visibly on the performance of the system. Because this printing system is so critical, the process is being enhanced by throwing the stats on an Xcelsius dashboard for real-time monitoring by the operations folks.
Hope this helps. I'll be glad to share more if you're interested.

Weblogic 4.5.1, AIX 4.3, and hardware recommendations?
I have been asked to spec the hardware for the application server. We are
expecting the load to initially be very small but could grow up to 3000
concurrent users. We are thinking about initially going with an IBM H50, dual
processor (332Mhz 604E Power PC chip), 1 Gig of memory, running AIX 4.3.
We have concerns about web logic's support on AIX, it states that it is only
certified on JDK 1.1.6. Does anyone know if JDK 1.2 is supported? I believe
their is a JDK for 1.2 on AIX. We are uncomfortable about moving back to 1.1.6
just to run on an AIX box. Should we be thinking about using a Sun or NT box
instead?
Are there any other gotchas that we need to be looking for when specifying our
hardware? Does anyone have a matrix to help spec the expected memory, disk I/O,
and CPU power required for an EJB based application. I understand that this is
largely dependent on the design of the beans, but there has got to be something
out there that defines a "typical" setup.
Thanks for you help.

Unloading library on HP UX11 and AIX crashes in 8.1.7 and 9i
We dynamically load/unload Oracle client libraries(libclntsh). Unloading the library hangs/crashes with 8.1.7 or 9i client. Works fine with 8.1.5.
This happens only on HP11 or AIX. Windows and solaris work fine.
Has anyone else seen this problem?
ThanksMark, I'm faced with the same proble. Did you get beyond the problem?

Running Flash Player and Flex on HPUX and AIX
Hi
Issue: HPUX 11iv2 PARISC and Itanium and AIX 5.1 and 5.2
(PPC) are not listed in the systemj requirements of Flash Player.
And So affects the Flex SDK Applications?
Does this mean these OS are NOT Supported currently and FLEX
applications cannot run ont these OS browsers?
If no, if and when would Flex Applications be able to run on
HPUX and AIX systems?
This is major concern for choosing the Adoe's Flash
Player-Flex technologies for our big solutions, in Web RIA.
Thanks in advance, NGHi
Got answer for HPUX but seems like its half-baked, as there
are plugins for Macromedia Flash Player version 6 in Mozill and
Firefox 1.5 browsers on PA and itanium.

Lemme know if anyonw knows on the Flash v 8 or 9.

DB2 and AIX on p570 server with Virtual I/O Server
Hi, All
We are implementing a system landscape on IBM p5 570 servers and currently are planning of 3 LPARs with dual VIO-servers on each box.
Have anybody expirience for this configuration in production systems ?
Is there any DB2-specific problems for working with virtual SCSI volumes over VIO-server ?
Is there any IBM/SAP whitepapers/technote for this ?
Big thanks and sorry for my bad englishWe recently rolled-out 2 p550's configured with dual VIO servers each for redundancy. So far we have installed SAPs Solution Manager and Portals on top of DB2. At this point we are using internal SCSI disk but intend to use SAN disk in future.
Performance has been good, although these are not yet Production systems. DB2 doesn't care about the virtual disk, since they appear as normal SCSI disks to the OS. I've seen it recommended NOT to use Virtualized disk in production, but I think this may be a CYA-type recommendation.
There are a couple of White Papers from the "IBM SAP International Competence Centre" in Waldorf, that discuss SAP on AIX 5.3 and Power5. Sorry I don't have the links anymore. -

AIX 6 and Oracle database 10g/11g
Dear All,
We are planning to upgrade our OS from AIX 5.3 to AIX 6.1 and infact have upgraded couple of servers to 6.
In light of cost saving/cutting, how can AIX 6 help reduce licensing fee for Oracle databases. In other words, we would like to look into possibilities of reducing Oracle database (10g/11g) licensing fee by upgrading OS to AIX 6.
Will the new feature like CPU virtualization be helpful in this regard? Are there any other features which could be worth looking into?
I would be grateful if any of you could shed some light on this.

AIX 5.1, WebLogic 5.10 and Clustering
Hi all,
I'm able to setup IBM_HTTP_SERVER/1.3.26.1 (Apache/1.3.26) as proxy, WebLogic
5.10 clustering on a AIX 5.1 box. Problem is images are not showing up properly
and I'm getting Javascript errors.
On non-clustered environment, the above configurations work fine.
The questions I have are the following:
1. Are the above configurations supported? If not, do you think that will work?
2. Does anyone have the above configurations and got clustering working?
Hoping to hear from you guys soon.
Thanks !

the statments that aix 5.1 and 4.3 ldap dont support
rfc 2307 are what worry me, as fitting these clients

how does this effect those clients.
