AIX core dump file,
Hi
In AIX core dump file, we got this message
'SOFTWARE PROGRAM ABNORMALLY TERMINATED'CORE FILE NAME
/scclive/oracle/inst/apps/SCC_ebsprod/ora/10.1.2/forms/core
PROGRAM NAME
frmweb
We are getting these errors frequently when there was some network issue between our server and PDC. That why oracle application server is hanging and we had to bounce for resolving the issue. Can anybody help how to resolve permanently from AIX point of view?
Regards
Ateeq
Hi
1)In which way the PDC is connected to your EBIZ system?
No we are using hostfile. 2)If point 1 is correct then u should solve the network issue as the forms sessions are hanging coz of network issue OR If point 1 is correct then you must update the EBIZ system hostfile with the fully qualified domain name and remove DNS server for the EBIZ system to solve this issue.
We do have fully qualified domanin name in hostfile. As well as using DNS server also.Regards
Ateeq

How to view database core dump file
I have an Oracle server on windows 2000. Now, I found the oracle server will produce a core dump file in ..\cdump directory. But this file is only a system memory image, so it's hard to analysis the core dump reason, could you tell me how to view this file? thanks
There's no much useful information for you too see. You can create a SR with Oracle support and upload file if you want to investigate the cause of core dump. also check if there's any errors in your alert<SID>.log and core_dump_dest

Newbie: How To find Core Dump files on Unix?! URGENT!
Hi, i would like to know on How To find Core Dump files on Unix?!
I know they should be found in /usr/sap/<SYSTEM-ID>/<INSTANZ>/work
but there are no "core" files and also in tmp is nothing unusual but disk space is totally full.
So how to find the big files which i could delete to make system running again?!
can someone provide me with some infos?!
br1. which user i should use to search and destroy?! root-user or SYSID-User?!
Always use the user with the least permissions to do the job, don't use root if your sidadm can do it. If you want to find / delete SAP files use sidadm.
2. I found no core files and the harddisk is still 100% full, what files might also cause this problem
In your first post you wrote that /usr/sap/SID/INST/work dir is full, it is most likely that some trace files got to large. Check for files like dev_*, dew_w0 for example is the trace file of work process 0, dev_disp is the trace of the dispatcher and so on. You either have to increase the size of the filesystem, or find the cause for the growing file. It can be due to an increased trace level.
3. What on database-side could cause this problems?! can i search for sth here.
This does not look like a database issue so far.
4. i was unable to use the given scripts (noob!), what can i do else?!
Which one, please post what you typed and the error you got.
Best regards, Michael -
Revoe core dump files from cdump directory
Hi,
I have lot of core dump files exist in cdump directory of 5 GB size. Latest core dump is feb 27 2008.
Can I safely remove all core dump files now, it is production instance 10.2.0.1 running on HP-UX.
Please suggest. INo problem, a core dump means that the memory of the process was dumped in a file 'core' on the file system because of an exceptional condition similar to the internal error ORA-600, however, the big difference is that the kernel did not anticipate the error.

Hello all,
how to collect core dump on Solaris 10.
Thanks alotModerator advice: Don't double post. The other thread you started in the Servers General Discussion forum with the identically same question has been removed.
The only response on that thread is reproduced below.

Hi Vutha,
Are you looking for instructions on collecting a core file, created by a failing userland process, or do you want to collect kernel crashdump files ?
You can look at the output of the coreadm command to find out what file is stored in which location.
What to collect is nicely described in [url https://supporthtml.oracle.com/ep/faces/secure/km/DocumentDisplay.jspx?id=1010911.1]What to send to Oracle Sun after a system panic and/or unexpected reboot (Doc ID 1010911.1).
Did you know we have two community categories in My Oracle Support, where you also can post your questions ? Have a look at [url https://communities.oracle.com/portal/server.pt/community/sun_sparc_enterprise_servers/447]Sun SPARC Enterprise Servers and [url https://communities.oracle.com/portal/server.pt/community/oracle_sun_technologies/388] Oracle Sun Technologies .
Hope this helps,

This seems like a fairly simple problem, but I cannot seem to find it in any searches...
How can I set the core (or heap) dump directory to "/usr/scratch" instead of the current directory. I running 1.4.2 for now.
Thanks for any help!Hi, Im not familiar with heap dumps so i apologize if this isnt helpful...
http://blogs.sun.com/roller/page/alanb?entry=heap_dumps_are_back_with
If you don't want big dump files in the application working directory then the HeapDumpPath option can be used to specify an alternative location - for example -XX:HeapDumpPath=/disk2/dumps will cause the heap dump to be generated in the /disk2/dumps directory.
https://hat.dev.java.net/doc/README.html
For example, to run the program Main and generate a binary heap profile in the file dump.hprof, use the following command:
java -Xrunhprof:file=dump.hprof,format=b Main
also:
http://www.hp.com/products1/unix/java/infolibrary/prog_guide/hotspot.html
-XX:+HeapDumpOnOutOfMemory
The HeapDumpOnOutOfMemory command line option causes the JVM to dump a snapshot of the Java heap when an Out Of Memory error condition has been reached. The heap dump format generated by HeapDumpOnOutOfMemory is in hprof binary format, and is written to filename java_pid<pid>_<.hprof in the current working directory. The option -XX:HeapDumpPath=<file>_< can be used to specify the dump filename or the directory where the dump file is created. Running with application with -XX:+HeapDumpOnOutOfMemoryError does not impact performance. Please note the following known issue: The HeapDumpOnOutOfMemory option does not work with the low-pause collector (-XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC). This option is available starting with the 1.4.2.11 and 1.5.0.04 releases. -
How to analyse the core dump files
We have a stand alone java GUI application that crashed and left a core file. We compiled it with "javac -g" and we ran it with "java" without -debug option. I have two questions to ask:
1. Does the core file in our case contain enough debug information?
2. If our core file has enough debug information, how do we analyse it? with what tools? If our core file doen't contain enough debug information, how can we generate the core file with correct debug information?
Your input is greatly appreciated!Program terminated with signal 9, Killed.

#0 0xff369ab8 in ?? ()There's a lot of dynamically-generated native code fragments in a HotSpot VM, that are not in a conventional object-file layout with a static symbol table and all that wonderful stuff that gdb needs to generate a proper stack trace.
The stack isn't even in a format in which gdb can walk it. I'm afraid you're basically stuck: you'll have to experiment with your Java program, and see what language construct or statement is giving it fits, and basically, as the doctor says to the patient who says "Doctor, it hurts when I do this": "well, don't do that, then".
Oh yeah, maybe file a bug at the JDC bug site, but you'll have to give lots of stuff (including self-contained programs) for the team to try to reproduce this error at their end.. -

JDB crashes while lodading core dump or throws errors
I'm having here RHEL 5.1 system and some core dumps generated by our 32 bit java application. This application uses JNI and for some reason (that I'm still trying to figure out) is crashing while executing JNI calls.
I can load the core dumps inside gdb and even backtrace the native stack of the program and see the variables inside the shared library where it's crashing. But I need to take a closer look on the java stack and some of the variable values on the java side also.
I did try to use JDB to do this like it's described in the Troubleshooting guide for Java 6 but for some unknown reason when I do try to attach JDB to the core dumps I either get some error thrown on the console or JDB crashes and produces a hs_err_pit*.log file. I have used this technique already few times and didn't had any problems with JDB. I'm wondering if it could be that the core dump files are too big - some of them are around 3 Gb. But one of them is ~600Mb and also is crashing. So is ti possible bug in JDB or I'm missing something. I'm posting the error and the one of the hs_err_pid files.
Appreciate any help and ideas

vm_info: Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (1.6.0_03-b05) for linux-x86, built on Sep 24 2007 22:32:39 by "java_re" with gcc 3.2.1-7a (J2SE release)Thank you for your responds!
I'm not trying at all to transfer the core to a different system. I'm debugging on the same linux red hat box where the cores where produced and I'm using the JDB version from the same JDK that was used to run the app.
I'm wondering what makes you think that I'm possibly mixing core files?
Here is the output that JDB generates when I define LIBSAPROC_DEBUG=1. This is the case when JDB crashes:
$ jdb -connect sun.jvm.hotspot.jdi.SACoreAttachingConnector:javaExecutable=/usr/java/jdk/bin/java,core=core.23850

Hi all,
We have faced this problem in our production system.
Machine is Solaris 8, sparc, Running Java 1.3.1_08 hotspot version.
I searched around quite a bit but no good solution.
Here is the stack trace that I have just before the JVM crashes.
Also, I am new to gdb. I tried to connect to core dump file through gdb but i
do not see any details. The application is running on japanese platform how can
I read the core file?
Regards
Tapan

Core dump are creates even though my server does not crash
I am having an issue with a large number of core dump files getting generated by jrockit that occupies the disk space daily almost 8 files are generated of size 150 to 800 MB
However, what amazes me is that the weblogic server does not crash
I have also checked the logs there where certain errors but not something that could crash my servers and the weblogic server was running all the time.
I know I can stop the generation of core dump files by using ulimit. But if I do so and if my Jrockit crashes It wont generate the core dump file that would be needed
My configuration is
a) WLS Version:10.3.2.0
b) OS Type: Oracle Solaris 10 on SPARC (64-bit)
c) JDK Vendor & Version: BEA JRockit(R) (build R27.6.5-32_o-121899-1.6.0_14-20091001-2106-solaris-sparcv9
Any help is greatly appreciated
As the files are taking up all the spaceDid you get a solution for this issue ? I have the same HD which works fine on two other Mac Book pros (Snow leopard and mountain Lion) but does not work on a brand new mac book pro with Mavericks

Application dying with core dump on what appears to be berkeley
I have a web app being run on a solaris server. This web app ran for approximately 20 hours before crashing. I have the core dump file, but it is quite large (11GB). Using mdb I am able to get the stack trace from the core dump. Could this be an issue with a corrupted BDB? Or could it be corrupted environment file(s)? A similar, but different (slightly different stack trace) error that happened on another server a few hours later. We have 3 other servers that continue to run successfully though with the same BDB objects.
We are not writing to any of the BDBs. They are read only. Same with secondary BDBs. It is a java webapp interacting with the native solaris libraries. I forgot to add, this is a 64 bit machine.
If you have any ideas/suggestions/need more info please let me know.

Edited by: user11287228 on Jun 9, 2011 11:33 AMHello,
If you can one thing that might help is rebuilding the Berkeley DB library with enable-debug and enable-diagnostic. With enable-debug we might get line numbers and see exact where we are in __env_alloc_free and see what the input parameters leading up to the abort are. With enable-diagnostic run-time checking is in place which might also help see what is causing this. (see http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17076_02/html/installation/build_unix_conf.html) Another thing to do if you are not using a private environment is to look at the db_stat -E output:
